Oakland Early College students have full access to the over 160 degree pathways at Oakland Community College. In general, students at OEC graduate with both their high school diploma and their associate degree, and/or two years of transferable college credit. Students at Oakland Early College matriculate from grade 9 through grade 13, with entry available through 12th grade. By grade 11, each student is enrolled in a blend of college and high school courses.

They used Adolescent Egocentrism Scale (AES) (Enright et al., 1979, 1980), Lunzer (1965) formal operations measure and Imaginary Audience Scale (IAS) (Elkind & Bowen, 1979) as the instruments. The result of a grade-by-grade analysis of inter-correlations between adolescence egocentrism and formal operational thoughts showed modest to non-significant differences among all the measures, which implies that there is little association between adolescent egocentrism and formal operations. Some more recent studies got similar findings.

The North Carolina Standard Course of Study is used as the basis for Tiller School curriculum . In addition, Tiller School has adopted The Core Knowledge Sequence developed by E.D. Hirsch, who founded the Core Knowledge Foundation. Core Knowledge provides a clear outline of content to be learned Grade by Grade so that knowledge, language, and skills build cumulatively from year to year. This sequential building of knowledge not only helps ensure that children enter each new Grade ready to learn, it also helps prevent the repetitions and gaps that so often characterize current education.

St Olaf also became one of the nation's largest undergraduate producers in mathematical sciences. In 1992, Steen went on leave from St. Olaf, he served as executive director of the Mathematical Sciences Education Board at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC. In 1995, he returned to St. Olaf and began working on special projects for the Provost office. In the late 1990s, Steen worked as a writer and editor in pioneering grade-by-grade standards that helped meet the mathematical requirements of college as well as careers. The campaign for similar standards that is seen nowadays is an evolution of his former efforts.

UCHS 1971 cornerstone, painted in the school colors UCHS' first day of school was Dec, 10, 1972. It was opened as a regular high school (not the original mission) because the curriculum and teachers were not ready, and construction of the school was continuously delayed, pushing the opening date to December. The first cohort of students at UCHS were exclusively ninth graders, and the school expanded grade by grade until it reached its full 9-12 grade range in 1976. The building was designed for a capacity of 3,000 students, but on the first day of school only a few hundred students had been identified by their sending schools.
