Jessica Jones returns to Avengers Mansion with her baby after going into hiding because of death threats made by Norman Osborn. Jessica tells Luke Cage that she no longer feels that the mansion is safe for their daughter and asks him to leave with her but Luke retorts that they will not be safe anywhere. The argument is interrupted by the arrival of Captain America who explains the impending threat of the Phoenix and war with X-Men. Jessica then leaves the mansion while Luke heads off to Utopia with the Avengers to confront the X-Men.

After hearing of their adventures, the Carbuncles direct the caravanners to the source of the Miasma, asking them to destroy the Meteor Parasite.

Mary Ann reunites with John, who had stumbled onto the bodies of a pair of murdered guards, and together the two go looking for the building's remaining watchman, finding him just as he is fatally bludgeoned by the killer, who they narrowly evade. After John's arm is broken in a subsequent run-in with the maniac, he and Mary Ann separate, with Mary Ann going into hiding in the parking garage.

The Lich tried to end all life but was defeated and imprisoned within amber by Billy many years ago. After being freed from his prison by taking control of a snail, the Lich sets out to regain his power and destroy Ooo, but his body is destroyed by Finn. But the Lich's disembodied spirit survived and possesses Princess Bubblegum's body before being defeated again by Finn and the Ice King, causing him to end up possessing the snail that initially released him from the amber. Going into hiding in his snail vessel, the Lich arranged for a bear to trick Finn into giving him the Enchiridion for his master plan: to attach the jewels from the various crowns of power, most of which are worn by the princesses, to the book's cover and create a portal to the Multiverse to reach Time Room and have Prismo grant his wish to obliterate all life.

The name "Fireworm" was transferred to an entire species of small and flammable dragons in the films. As in the books, the final film in the franchise concludes with the dragons going into hiding, although this happens after Hiccup and his tribe relocate to a new island rather than at the end of Hiccup's life, Hiccup recognizing that too many people seek to use dragons as weapons for the tribe to continue living alongside their friends. The dragons relocate to the 'Hidden World', a vast underground network of caves, with Toothless as the alpha of all dragons, accompanied by his newfound mate, the Light Fury. The film ends with an 'epilogue' scene, with Hiccup narrating the opening lines from the first book, which is set several years after the dragons departed, when a now-married Hiccup and Astrid return to the outskirts of the Hidden World to introduce their children to the dragons, Hiccup musing as he flies with Toothless and his son (Astrid riding on Stormfly with their daughter while the Light Fury and the hatchlings fly alongside Toothless) that dragons remain underground until mankind is ready to live with them in peace.
