The first climbing at Morialta was in 1962 by a group from the Adelaide University Mountain Club (AUMC). The livestream opened with a recap video cataloging the "best moments" of the past season, followed by commentator Mike Ross introducing the tournament's outline and prize pool. Oxaal's friend Saul Davies had been in James since 1989 (playing rhythm guitar, violin and percussion) and suggested Oxaal as a possible replacement for Gott.
