Martinez continued to wrestle for Shimmer and various independent promotions across America through 2006. On May 2, 2009 she took part in Shimmer's Volume 23 where she lost to Awesome Kong.
It was also remembered for being the final public appearance of Oscar-winning actor John Wayne, where he was given a standing ovation before presenting the award for Best Picture. On June 11, two months after the ceremony, he died from complications from stomach cancer at age 72. This was also the final public appearance for Jack Haley, presenter of the Best Costume Design with his Wizard of Oz co-star Ray Bolger as well as the father of the producer, as he died on June 6 of that year.

Finally, on May 2, 1932, she died and was buried in her hometown.

Oates was considering returning to managing when he was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor, glioblastoma multiforme. Doctors gave Oates only about a year to live, but he survived for over three years—enough time to attend his daughter's wedding, his grandchild's birth, and his induction into the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame at The Ballpark in Arlington. During the ceremony at The Ballpark, he was given a standing ovation as Oates, weakened by the cancer and its treatment, required the help of his wife Gloria and a cane to walk. Oates succumbed to the tumor at age 58 at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond on Christmas Eve 2004.

Following his retirement in 1993, Darleen Totten took over and has continued to promote outstanding theatre at Alice High School. Under her direction the students received the National Forensic League Leading Chapter award and performed at Thespian State and the International Thespian Festival on numerous occasions. In the fall of 2006, the Alice High School Theatre Department received international attention when their thespian troop appeared in Dramatics Magazine and Ms. Totten was interviewed for a story in Stage Directions Magazine In 2007 and 2016, the thespian troupe 5191 was chosen to perform The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-moon Marigolds at Lincoln, Nebraska, for the International Thespian Festival. The students were given a standing ovation by thousands of drama students from around the world.

Many fans hoped to see him play for Italy at Euro 2004, or with the 2004 Olympic squad that eventually managed a Bronze medal, but this was not to be the case. Shaykh Abdul-Hakim Murad Murad of University of Cambridge, another British scholar of immense erudition, delivered his talk on the importance of relations with other religions in a non-Muslim society. Although she was not able to be there, due to travelling difficulties at the age of 98, she said that she was 'glad that people in London are becoming as enthusiastic about my work as they are in Scotland'. She was present at the opening of the final exhibition of the tour, at the University of Glasgow Chapel, where she was given a standing ovation by the 150 guests present. The University of Glasgow recognised Frank's talent and "international distinction" and the day before her death (too late for her to know) a letter had been sent, offering her an honorary degree of Doctor of Letters.

Ted mentions an occasion where Dick had lost a bet with him and that as a forfeit, he had had to say "bollocks" very loudly in front of the (then) Irish President Mary Robinson. Crystal Palace against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in February 2014 On 10 August 2013, Ian Holloway announced the signing of Chamakh on a one-year deal from Arsenal to Crystal Palace. On 24 August 2013 he scored his first Premier League goal since September 2011 and his first for Crystal Palace, in a 2–1 away defeat to Stoke City. On 9 November 2013, Chamakh was given a standing ovation by the home fans at Selhurst Park whilst being substituted, despite not scoring, impressing with his work rate and attitude against Everton. On 3 December 2013, Chamakh scored in a 1–0 win against West Ham from a cross by Barry Bannan, his first goal in 11 matches. He continued his good form with a well-hit low volley in a 2–0 home win over Cardiff City.
Kayes appeared in the front page picture of the Telegraph & Argus, a Bradford Newspaper dated Monday 13 May 1985, showing him comforting a woman in the goal mouth at the scene of the Bradford City Football Club fire disaster. He was working at the time for Yorkshire Television who were covering the event for transmission for The Big Match television show. He also had the tragic task of informing Simon Robinson, one the UK's brightest bodybuilding hopefuls who Kayes was mentoring that his leg had been amputated when he awoke from a coma after an horrific car accident on 25 March 1998. Simon continued his bodybuilding after his recovery and was given a standing ovation at the 2003 Mr. Olympia Contest when he appeared as their guest poser, a proud moment for both Robinson and Kayes.

He led Bulgaria to a silver medal at the 2006 IIHF World Championship Division II, a bronze medal at the 2012 IIHF World Championship Division II, and the gold medal at the 2014 IIHF World Championship Division III. Mihailov also played for the Bulgaria men's national inline hockey team at three IIHF Inline Hockey World Championships, and said that there was "not a big difference between ice hockey and inline hockey". During the European qualification portion of the 2015 IIHF Inline Hockey World Championship Division I, Mihailov was given a standing ovation and was named the event's best goaltender. He was 51 years old at the time, which was his last appearance with the national team.
Beginning near the end of the 2006 season, word began to surface that Favre was considering retirement. In fact, playing in Soldier Field against the arch-rival Bears in the season finale, Favre was given a standing ovation in the closing seconds of the Packer victory as a show of respect from Chicago fans to their longtime nemesis. Moments later at the postgame interview, he gave a tearful interview with an NBC Sports correspondent, where he admitted his future was still questionable. In the 2007 season, he played his 200th game for North Adelaide in the Preliminary final win against Woodville-west Torrens, although the team eventually lost the Grand Final to Central District. Bamford considered playing on in the 2008 SANFL season, saying "I'm still enjoying the game as much, if not more, than I ever have", but, on 27 October 2007 at the North Adelaide Best & Fairest Night, he announced his retirement from football after spending three weeks agonising about his future. When making a speech he was given a standing ovation by past and present team mates, club support staff, coaching panel and supporters.
Beckham lining up a free kick for England in June 2008 On 20 March 2008, Beckham was recalled to the England squad by Capello for the friendly against France in Paris on 26 March. Beckham became only the fifth Englishman to win 100 caps. Capello had hinted on 25 March 2008 that Beckham had a long-term future in his side ahead of crucial qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup.
