Motivated in part by her own experiences as an adoptive mother and those of other women and families who struggle with work/life integration, she decided to write about adoption. Her novel, Saving the Dream tells the story of a young woman and her decision to have her baby or give it up for adoption and alternately explores the life her son might have lived in each world. Her latest book, Lynn's Angels - The True Story of E. Lynn Harris and the Women Who Loved Him tells the story of the life of the late author E. Lynn Harris and the five women who comprised the family that he invented for himself that he called "Lynn's Angels". It explores the universal concept of voluntary kinship with the goal of helping others appreciate the significance of their own invented families.

In the 1988 article which was originally in The Progressive and reprinted in Pound Pup Legacy, a South Korean orphanage director said that according to his orphanage's questionnaire data 90% of Korean birth mothers indicated that wanted to keep their biological child and not give it up for adoption, but the South Korean orphanage director said that only maybe 10% of birth mothers eventually decided to keep their biological child after his orphanage suggested to the birth mothers that unwed mothers and poor couples should give their child up for adoption. Jaswinder "Jazz" Singh (Saif Ali Khan) is a 40-year-old carefree womaniser who works in London as a property broker during the day with his brother Dimpy (Kumud Mishra) and parties at night in a bar owned by his friend Rocky (Chunky Pandey), usually taking whichever girl agrees to go to his home for a one- night stand. Jazz, along with his brother Dimpy, has to negotiate a multi- million-pound deal involving a property in Hounslow, but his aged landlady Malika (Kamlesh Gill) refuses to part with her home, and his repeated attempts to convince her to give it up for the new construction do not succeed. One night, Jazz is partying as usual when a girl spills her drink on him; she apologises and he carries on. The next night, at the bar, she reveals herself to him as Tia (Alaya Furniturewala), a 21-year-old Amsterdammer who has come to London for some personal work, as she puts it.
