Life in the camps could be a perilous affair at times, especially where hot tempers were concerned. A dispute over the return of the loan of a few shillings lead to the shooting of John O'Neil a sub-contractor on Section Two.
Himalayan tahr are widespread in the Ben Ohau Range The population on South Island conservation land is estimated to have peaked at 35,000. To give an idea of the population surrounding Lake Ōhau, one DOC contractor managed to cull more than 1000 tahr in the Ben Ohau Range over two days in July 2019. Tahr graze native tussocks and plants, especially in the Ben Ohau range. Tussocks around the Ben Ohau range that were once as high as one meter have been reduced to ankle height by grazing tahr.
A modern interpretation of these stelae and the Roman flag, Cantabrum, gives rise to the current Cantabrian lábaru, an unofficial flag but widely used among Cantabrian people. In the same way, stonemasons and artists from many parts of Cantabria reproduce ancient stelae or create new ones like those, carved in stone or wood, sometimes used as ornaments for new constructions. Similarly stelae reproductions, in wood or metal, are commonly found in pendants and small figures, all of which give an idea of the importance as a Cantabrian symbol.
Salt was once one of the major sources of revenue for China. To give an idea of how much money was generated from salt in China - after the fall of the last emperor, the Republic of China under Sun Yat-sen secured loans based upon the revenues of the Chinese Salt Administration (the government agency in charge of taxation on salt). The chief inspector of that administration stated "The best salt in China is produced from the salt wells of Sichuan". The best salt wells in Sichuan are in Ziliujing District, Zigong.
Called "A Decade of Lithography", it covered the years from 1927 through 1937. Citing her "rich, healthy human commentary", a reviewer said the show revealed the "love of life in its sprawling actuality" that was the main force of her art. Included in the show were cityscapes like Ninth Avenue Church (1936) and a dramatic landscape with an improbable couple (Cliffs by the Sea, 1937), which give an idea of the range Dwight's artistic skill. Dwight liked to include cats in her work and Backyard (1938) puts one as the main focus of the composition.
Later that month, the Wehrmacht took over the guard duties, and under their direction a total of 18 were shot, 60 died of other causes, and 23 managed to escape. Later, 105 people were sent to the medical camp at Øysand in Trondheim. On June 1, 1944 the Boten camp was shut down and all of the remaining 381 prisoners were sent to the Potthus camp a little further south in Saltdal. These figures differ from those cited in other sources (the primary source is testimony by witnesses), but they give an idea of the magnitude.
Hawarden was dismissed from the university,"Hawarden, Letter March 14, 1711", Pitts Theology Library but a subsequent official investigation completely exonerated all. In 1707 Hawarden left Douai to take charge of the mission of Gilligate, Durham, and later Aldcliffe Hall, near Lancaster. Brief entries in the Tyldesley Diary give an idea of his daily life until the seizure of Aldcliffe Hall in 1717, after which he moved to London, probably on his appointment as Controversy-writer. Dr. Hawarden received the thanks of the University of Oxford for his defence of the Blessed Trinity in the famous conference with Dr. Samuel Clarke (1719).
Refused, also known as Santa Dog '99, was released by the Residents towards the end of 1999 to celebrate the end of the millennium (using the popular, rather than mathematically correct, impression of the end of the millennium). The Residents had previously reworked the song "Fire" (a.k.a. "Santa Dog") a number of times since the release of the original single in 1972, ostensibly to give an idea of where they were musically at the time. This release compiled the past versions, a new version that had been previously available only as a download, and a number of other variations on the theme.
The instrumentum laboris is not an indicator of what the conclusions of the Synod will be, but can give an idea of the general consensus in the Church on the subject of discussion. Pope John Paul II stated that the document was "a sign and builder of communion, [since] it expresses the voice of the Church, and at the same time it fosters an exchange which enriches that voice in the common task". Due to talks at Vatican II, the majority of bishops present agreed that the instrumentum laboris was essential for the life of the church.
As such, it is difficult to tell whether particular elements in The Hidden's legend come from fact, claims The Hidden made directly himself, rumors spread by The Hidden's supporters, or stories spread by the government. Some of the most reliable testimony about the actual beliefs of the Hidden and his followers comes from the Spanish Inquisition. The Inquisition arrested and questioned various members of the revolt for heresy, and recorded their answers. These answers give an idea of what actual supporters of The Hidden thought, as opposed to claims the government made later about the motives of The Hidden and the rebels.
The ordinary photograph of a schoolgirl and a cat proves to be the starting point for an insightful visit to levels of reality that can only be imagined, and about which little may be known. In his conclusion Boeke speculates that the imaginary voyage depicted may help "just a little" to make mankind realize the enormousness of the cosmic powers that the human race has begun to master. Boeke injected some humor into the book. He puts a blue whale into his graphics, incongruously lying alongside the girl and her cat, to give an idea of relative sizes.
Lough Ree Power Station The ESB was established by the fledgling Irish Free State government under the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1927 to manage Ireland's electricity supply after the successful Shannon Scheme at Ardnacrusha. The scheme was Ireland's first large-scale electricity plant – and at the time, it provided 80% of the total energy demands of Ireland. To give an idea of the growth in demand, the output of Ardnacrusha is now approximately two per cent of national peak demand for power. By 1937, plans were being finalised for the construction of several more hydro-electric plants.
The essential job of this system is to find a suitable balance between fixing dirty data and maintaining the data as close as possible to the original data from the source production system. This is a challenge for the Extract, transform, load architect. The system should offer an architecture that can cleanse data, record quality events and measure/control quality of data in the data warehouse. A good start is to perform a thorough data profiling analysis that will help define to the required complexity of the data cleansing system and also give an idea of the current data quality in the source system(s).
To give an idea of the roughness of the Canadian wilderness: even though authorities knew the general location, it took four years to find a rocket pod full of live rockets that had jettisoned from a jet fighter in 1958 when a switch malfunctioned. The North Bay Nugget, 23 November 1962. Both of North Bay's TACAN units were disbanded in the 1960s, but TACAN sites are still found throughout the country today, some providing assistance to civilian as well as military aviators. A concern for northern and bush operations in Canada was in identifying the Magnetic North Pole, benchmark for all land, sea and air compasses in the northern hemisphere.
Tressla is considered the Center of all Galactic Commerce. In fact, it is said that in all the Galaxy there is no grander spectacle than the Great Transgoth Market located there. To give an idea of their devotion to the deal, in the twenty-eighth century Galactica, they sold their own moon to the Drakulians in exchange for the rights to be the Drakul's exclusive financial broker. Their government is based on a quasi-democratic oligarchy model, but in practice their leader—the so-called Grand Merchant—is chosen on the basis of wealth accumulated and the potential to add more wealth to the National Holdings.
By 1858, it was the eighth largest in the world. To give an idea of the economic potential of the country during the Empire, if "it had been able to sustain the level of productivity achieved in 1780 and managed to increase exports at a pace equal to that verified in the second half of 19th century, its per capita income in 1850 would be comparable to the average per capita income of the Western European nations". "The World's Sovereigns". By 1889 Emperor Pedro II (left with dark tunic, white pants, and sash) had achieved a place of prominence on the world stage for both Brazil and himself.
The royal tombs are decorated with scenes from Egyptian mythology and give clues as to the beliefs and funerary practices of the period. Almost all of the tombs seem to have been opened and robbed in antiquity, but they still give an idea of the opulence and power of the pharaohs. This area has been a focus of archaeological and Egyptological exploration since the end of the eighteenth century, and its tombs and burials continue to stimulate research and interest. In modern times the valley has become famous for the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun (with its rumours of the curse of the pharaohs), and is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world.
The National Tramway Museum in Crich, Derbyshire, has a large and diverse fleet of heritage tramcars, and aims to illustrate the complete development of the traditional British Tramcar. Where it is not possible to show this, tramcars from places as far away as Berlin, the Hague, Douglas, Halle, Howth, Johannesburg, New York City, Oporto, Prague and Sydney have been acquired to show this. The majority of the trams at Crich are double-deck trams built between 1900 and 1930, and several have open tops. There are a few trams in the collection that were built after the Second World War, and these give an idea of how the British Tram Industry may have developed if services had not declined.
In the experiments carried out by the scientists, different parameters were studied: The bond distance between the different atoms and the angles between them. The results indicated that the bond distance between de carbon atom and the cyano group is 1.501 Å; the angle between the three carbon atoms is 113º while the angle between the CCC and the CN bond is 53.8º. Two different torsional modes were observed, according to the relative intensities of the excited state lines, the frequencies of which were, respectively, 200±20 and 249±10 cm−1. This could give an idea of the internal rotation energy of this molecule, which has been found to be of 3.3 Kcal/mole.
WPA workers also removed the original swimming lagoon and constructed a kidney-shaped concrete pool. The WPA was very involved in the creation of the long gone Rock House at the south end of Portage Park. This Rock House had another small pond area that had goldfish and flower basins, with the water in it kept at a substantial depth to support the fish over winter. This goldfish pond was later filled as a result of the polio epidemic in the 1940s, although the flower planters to the north and east of the main entrance off Central at Irving Park Road will give an idea of just what this Rock House looked like.
After all, members of a common social group might call themselves "brothers" or "cousins" without any actual blood or marital relationship. Still, it doesn’t help the case of the Gengell identification that Hannah Way is attested to while Hannah Gengell isn’t. John Gengell himself is only sparsely attested to, let alone a hypothetical sister of his, and even then, none of the surviving pieces that attest to his existence give an idea of his personal life. On the other hand, the Way family is very well documented; manuscript summaries of the parish registers for Bridport and Allington, Dorset, in the collection of the Rev. Richard Grosvenor Bartelot, show that Henry Way married Elizabeth Batchelar on 22 Jan.
Before its installation, a temporary plywood sculpture was erected in late 1970 to give an idea of the size of the sculpture. The dedication ceremony of the library did not occur until the installation of Moore's sculpture on May 16, 1971, two years after the library building was complete. I.M. Pei was in attendance and gave a short speech emphasizing the use of the plaza where Large Arch is placed as a public space that emphasizes the importance of the nearby buildings. Also present at the dedication were Carl Weinhardt, director of the Indianapolis Museum of Art at the time, Kenneth D. B. Carruthers, who worked with I.M. Pei on the library's design, and Robert Indiana, artist.
These items necessitated four Section 5 Planning Applications being submitted to the Local Authority, as the church is a Protected Structure. Despite the time needed for these additional planning applications and extensive additional work, the project was completed in February 2013, with a final account of just over €1.5m. The schedule of works below will give an idea of the extent of the works and enable us all to appreciate the width of the scope, as much of the works carried out are not readily visible. Roof: Extensive repairs to slates and ridge tiles, including the replacement of the entire roof slates over the side transept; end gable steel straps had to be replaced.
An example of the Spartan dumaresqs that survived beyond World War I, these were very simple, with fixed cross- bars and an own-speed of 12 knots that could not be altered. The standard speed suggests it was intended for use in transport type ships in convoy. The dial plate lacks markings for range rate, implying the fire control staff of the ship would have no range clock at all and that this device was solely to give an idea of what deflection should be used on the gun sights. A further indication that these were to be used by less intensively trained personnel is that the dial plate helpfully features an image of a gun muzzle which is to be pointed toward the enemy ship.
A magistrate in 1679 noted that there were only 290 houses in the city, many of them tiny, owned by poor artisans with large families. These people, who barely eked out a living from one week to the next, only just had enough beds to sleep in themselves, never mind providing accommodation for a large number of soldiers who were "crammed one on top of the other, experiencing first-hand the poverty and misery of their landlords". The military's lists of billets give an idea of the cramped conditions in which troops and civilians co-existed: the butcher Jacques Nehr (listed in 1681) had a wife and five children. A room on the first floor of his house contained two married sergeants and three children.
The trade between Kizlyar and aul Kostek situated on the left bank of river Koysuv was also at a significant level. Archival documents, reports of Karginskiy post in particular, which merchants frequented to get from Kostek to Kizlyar give an idea of goods they sold. In a document dated 4/XI-1761 is written that a merchant Nazar Artemyev brought from Kostek "two sacks of wheat, three sacks of proso, one basket full of clayware". In another reports from this post dated 14/II-1763 is noted that a Kizlyar merchant Baba Ismailov brought from Kostek "two small sacks of raw silk, one small sack of different silk and paper goods, one bag, three saddlebags and four small sacks full of almond and millet".
In 1757 F. A. Zaccaria, S.J., republished the work in Venice with notes and dissertations; in 1857 Passaglia and Schrader undertook a similar work, but they produced only the first volume. His letters, Epistolarum libri tres, were published after his death; though far from being complete, they give an idea of his close acquaintance with the most famous men in Europe of his time; they also furnish valuable information on the composition of his works and his method. Petau's claim to fame chiefly rests on his vast, but unfinished, De theologicis dogmatibus, the first systematic attempt ever made to treat the development of Christian doctrine from the historical point of view. The reputation Pétau enjoyed during his lifetime was especially due to his work on chronology.
At that juncture of their dialogue, Euthyphro does not understand what makes his definition of "piety" a circular argument; he agrees with Socrates that the gods like an action because it is pious. Socrates then argues that the unanimous approval of the gods is merely an attribute of "piety", that divine approval is not a defining characteristic of "piety". That divine approval does not define the essence of "piety", does not define what is "piety", does not give an idea of "piety"; therefore, divine approval is not a universal definition of "piety". ;Linguistic note Socrates' argument is convoluted not only because of its structure but because of the language used, and is said to have "reduced translators to babble and driven commentators to despair".
Recollecting a Culture: Photography and the Evolution of a Socialist Aesthetic in East Germany (1999), commemorating the 10th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, presented the archive of the FotoKino Verlag, publisher of the GDR's professional photography periodical, Fotografie. With works dating from 1929–89, photography critic Vicki Goldberg observed of the exhibition that "In the socialist paradise that failed, art was supposed to join the battle to create a new classless utopia on its unstable antecedent, capitalism. Mr. Jacob has done a real service by reprinting some articles from Fotografie that give an idea of what was required of photographers." The American photographer and theorist Diane Neumaier, in her history of Soviet non-conformist photography, credited Jacob's work as foundational to that of later historians such as herself.
To give an idea of the size of the derivative market, The Economist has reported that as of June 2011, the over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives market amounted to approximately $700 trillion, and the size of the market traded on exchanges totaled an additional $83 trillion. For the fourth quarter 2017 the European Securities Market Authority estimated the size of European derivatives market at a size of €660 trillion with 74 million outstanding contracts. However, these are "notional" values, and some economists say that these aggregated values greatly exaggerate the market value and the true credit risk faced by the parties involved. For example, in 2010, while the aggregate of OTC derivatives exceeded $600 trillion, the value of the market was estimated to be much lower, at $21 trillion.
Primitive- looking tools for boat building, once used by Cord-Hinrich and Hinrich Grotheer are presented on the hall's walls, such as drills, grindstones and saws of various kinds as well as all sorts of tools for woodworking. They give an idea of the simple means by which these watercraft were built. Tool board in the shipyard, 1990s In the room next to the hall there are original tools and devices for peat cutting, manual agriculture and clog-making were professionally conserved and are shown as exhibits. Also shown are so-called Brettholschen, mire clogs distributing the weight of the person over a larger area so that the person's foot does not bog down completely.Wolfgang Konukiewitz, „Torfstechen“, in: Die Findorff-Siedlungen im Teufelsmoor bei Worpswede: Ein Heimatbuch, Wolfgang Konukiewitz and Dieter Weiser (eds.), 2nd, revis. ed.
The Compleat Naturalist: A Life of Linnaeus, (Princeton University Press, 2002), p. 35. In his book The Compleat Naturalist: A Life of Linnaeus, Wilfred Blunt quotes Linnaeus's dedication: > So long as the earth shall survive and as each spring shall see it covered > with flowers, the Rudbeckia will preserve your glorious name. I have chosen > a noble plant in order to recall your merits and the services you have > rendered, a tall one to give an idea of your stature, and I wanted it to be > one which branched and which flowered and fruited freely, to show that you > cultivated not only the sciences but also the humanities. Its rayed flowers > will bear witness that you shone among savants like the sun among the stars; > its perennial roots will remind us that each year sees you live again > through new works.
The lawsuit is a valuable source of information concerning the Virginia Company's first lottery: > The only record which will give an idea of the value of the first lottery is > in the chancery proceedings, and relates to a suit of the company with > William Leveson to secure moneys from the lottery, in which the sum received > in 1613 is here stated to have been £2,793 and 10 shillings. The answer of > Leveson is of further interest in that it alone tells of the methods by > which the business was conducted and of the house built for the lottery west > of St. Paul’s Church.. Leveson's will suggests that his fortunes declined in his latter years.. He made his last will on 8 January 1621, leaving bequests to his wife Mary, his sons, Thomas and James, and to various servants,; . and died not long afterward.
Unlike this simplified model, any real histone code has the potential to be massively complex; each of the four standard histones can be simultaneously modified at multiple different sites with multiple different modifications. To give an idea of this complexity, histone H3 contains nineteen lysines known to be methylated—each can be un-, mono-, di- or tri- methylated. If modifications are independent, this allows a potential 419 or 280 billion different lysine methylation patterns, far more than the maximum number of histones in a human genome (6.4 Gb / ~150 bp = ~44 million histones if they are very tightly packed). And this does not include lysine acetylation (known for H3 at nine residues), arginine methylation (known for H3 at three residues) or threonine/serine/tyrosine phosphorylation (known for H3 at eight residues), not to mention modifications of other histones.
While there is less anatomical evidence for this group than for other archaic placental families (such as apatemyids, pantolestids, leptictids, and palaeoryctids), preserved dental and cranial anatomies give an idea of mixodectid dietary requirements. Their rodent-like dental pattern was similar to that of the multituberculates, with a pair of large, strong, and forward- directed incisors and a row of multi-cusped and low-crowned premolars and molars a specialized dental set-up probably used for crushing and opening hard seeds and nuts. Torrejonian (Middle Paleocene) Mixodectidae had a dental set- up similar to the oldest Plagiomenids and is therefore supposedly an ancestral (or sister) group of the latter. For many years Elipdophorus, the oldest plagiomenid, was classified as Mixodectidae but was finally regarded as more closely related to plagiomenids in the 1970s based on derived dental resemblances.
In 1339, a short while after his return to Nördlingen, his fidelity in abiding by the interdict brought him into a critical position, and he went by way of Augsburg and Constance to Basel, where he found Tauler and where several of the Gottesfreunde followed him from Bavaria. At Basel (January, 1339), which he now made the centre of his activity, his success in the confessional and pulpit brought crowds to him, especially in 1345. Letters to Margaretha Ebner give an idea of his work, fears, and hopes; in 1346-7 he made several trips to Cologne and Bamberg; then he left Basel, much regretted by the Gottesfreunde, and after a wandering life of preaching in Alsace (1348-9), while the Black Death was raging in Germany, he returned to his country (1350), a little before the death of Margaretha Ebner. We then find him in communication with the aged Christina Ebner of Engelthal, but after 1352 nothing more is heard of him.
Five girders on Knight's Key Bridge were blown from their piers due to the failure of the contractors to put in the necessary number of anchor bolts. A study of the destructive force of these storms was responsible for many radical changes in construction plans, and as a result the present work is practically storm proof. Some remarkable figures give an idea of the vast amount of work involved in the construction of the Key West extension. The project from beginning to end meant the assembling of 38,000 tons of structural steel, 461,000 cubic yards of concrete ; the transport and distribution of 800,000 barrels of cement, 96,000 tons of rock, 78,000 tons of gravel, and 300,000 cubic yards of coralline rock. In addition to this the constructors had to shift some 2,000 tons of reinforced steel, 70,000 pine piles, and approximately 100,000 tons of spoil for filling in shallows and making up embankments.
Found in the Hantau and Karatau Mountains, they take the form of animal images carved into the rocks. Neolithic and Bronze Age petroglyphs found in the Bayanaulsky cave (Pavlodar region), and in the Tanbaly gorge (Almaty region) (where the images include an elk, a lion, a hunter with a bow, an ox harnessed to a cart, and a cow) and on the northern shores of Lake Balkhash (a duel between two men with sabers, next to which stands a girl, and others) give an idea of the main occupations and customs of the ancient tribes inhabiting the territory of modern Kazakhstan. The petroglyphs of the Tamgaly archaeological complex, one of the most ancient and vivid rock art monuments of the "Seven Rivers" (Zhetysu, or Semirechye) area near Lake Balkhash, lie 170 km north-west of the city of Almaty in the Anrakai Mountains. The rock paintings and engravings were discovered in 1957 by an archaeological expedition of the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences, under the direction of A. G. Maximova.
