In 1913, R.J. Scott organized the World-Wide Apostolic Faith Camp Meeting as an effort to unite other Pentecostals. During the event, tents were set up and several speakers were scheduled to give guest sermons to the event attendees. Scott asked McAlister to attend the event and give a sermon on baptism. McAlister felt that it was the perfect opportunity to preach about his new understanding of the baptismal formula that was presented in Matthew 28:19. Two anecdotes illustrating Willms's personality were remembered in the February 1941 edition of the American Province of the Congregation of the Holy Ghost's monthly bulletin: As director of the Holy Childhood Association, Willms resided in the rectory of St. Stanislaus Church. A Polish prelate was visiting from Rome one Sunday, and had decided to give a sermon. A locomotive, however, arrived on the tracks outside the church and began to shift its cars back and forward, completely drowning out the speaker's words. Willms left the church immediately and stood on the tracks, refusing to let the engineer pass with the noisy train until the sermon was finished.

Giuseppe Girotti was born on 19 July 1905 in Alba in the Province of Cuneo as the eldest of three children to Celso Girotti (1875–???) and Martina Proetto; his siblings that followed him were Giovanni and Michele. Girotti was baptized on 30 July. He began his studies in October 1911 and from 1911 to 1913 was under the ward of the teacher Ferrio. He received both his First Communion and Confirmation on 9 May 1912 from Bishop Giuseppe Re. In the summer of 1918 he witnessed a priest of the Order of Preachers give a sermon in the Alba Cathedral and Girotti became enthralled to the point where he set his heart on becoming a priest himself.

After years pass, the lifeless body of the Mermaid washes ashore, and the Fisherman held it while the violent waves enveloped him. The Priest, finding the drowned Fisherman cradling the dead Mermaid, pronounces them accursed and has them buried in an unmarked grave in the corner of a field, and refuses to bless the water as was his intent to do. Three years later, the Priest goes to the flower-covered altar, prepared to give a sermon on God's vengeful wrath, but, for reasons he cannot explain, he cannot do so and instead spoke of God's love. Asking the deacons where the flowers came from, they tell him they came from the corner of the field.

According to Wesley’s diaries, on 10 May 1738 (Whitsunday), Wesley heard Heylyn "preach a truly Christian sermon on 'They were all filled with the Holy Ghost'--and so, said he, may all of you be." In 1739 Wesley heard Heylyn give a sermon on feigned and hypocritical repentance, and as a result, declared that he (Wesley) had been a hypocrite for twenty years. Heylyn’s “Theological Lectures” was used as a source in Wesley's compilation of the Explanatory Notes on the New Testament.

In the seventh year after Lord Buddha's intuition, he decided to give a sermon to his dead mother, Sirimahamaya, in Dusit heaven, so he stayed in the heaven for three months from Khao Phansa day to Ok Phansa day. On Ok Phansa day, the 15th day of the 11th waxing moon, Lord Buddha had come back to Earth and made the miracle that all realms (heaven, human, and hell) can see each other while he was going down. The next morning, most citizens made a big "Tak Bat" event as they had not seen Lord Buddha for almost three months. That event was originally called "Tak Bat Theworohana", but as the time passed, it had derived to only "Tak Bat Thewo".

The year following the Najaf conference, Nader Shah sent Nasrallah, as the Shia's representative to Mecca, with a letter to the Sharif of Mecca Mas'ood b. Sa'id. See "1732–1752" in "During the Ottoman Empire (1517–1917)" to assert the recognition he planned to attain with the conference, and establish the 'fifth corner' in the Kaaba for the Ja'faris to pray in. The Sharif was hesitant, but duly accepted due to Nasrallah's eloquence and demeanor, where he allowed him to hold the prayer in the north west corner (corner of the Kaaba that faces Syria) and give a sermon. Upon his return, Nader Shah ordered him to go to Mahmud I in Constantinople (Istanbul) to receive the firman confirming this establishment.

After Ingraham's departure, Tomes had to pull double duty many weeks as the rector of both Christ Church and St. Paul's mission, as any temporary priests' tenures were short-lived. By 1851, the mission had been organized into a parish under Reverend John W. Rogers, and on December 6 of the same year, the parish purchased a lot on what is now Sixth Avenue South, Lafayette Street, and Ewing Avenue for the construction of a new building to be called the "Church of the Holy Trinity." After a short fundraising drive spearheaded by Tomes, the cornerstone was laid in May 1852. Since Tomes was married to Henrietta Otey, daughter of Bishop James Hervey Otey, the first Episcopal Bishop of Tennessee, the Bishop was invited to give a sermon at the ceremony in May 1852.

The officer and an assistant later tried to arrest the preacher at home in Jerusalem, but the women of the house drove the men off and tore their clothes. A third attempt was carefully planned by a posse of 30 men who surrounded the home after midnight, broke down the door with an ax, and intended to carry the preacher off in an oxcart. A doctor who had come with the posse stated that the Friend was in too poor a state of health to be moved, and they made a deal that the Friend would appear before an Ontario county court in June 1800, but not before justice Parker. When the Friend appeared before the court, it ruled that no indictable offense had been committed, and invited the preacher to give a sermon to those in attendance.
