Adi Shankara (788–820), also known as and , represents a turning point in the development of Vedānta. After the growing influence of Buddhism on Vedānta, culminating in the works of Gaudapada, Adi Shankara gave a Vedantic character to the Buddhistic elements in these works, synthesising and rejuvenating the doctrine of Advaita. Using ideas in ancient Indian texts, Shankara systematized the foundation for Advaita Vedānta in the 8th century CE, reforming Badarayana's Vedānta tradition. His thematic focus extended beyond metaphysics and soteriology, and he laid a strong emphasis on Pramanas, that is epistemology or "means to gain knowledge, reasoning methods that empower one to gain reliable knowledge".

The Upward Bound Math-Science program (UBMS) was created for students to have the opportunity to excel in the areas of math and science. Upward Bound Math- Science helps strengthen students' math and science skills, particularly those who come from areas that are underdeveloped. UBMS is a program that was put in place by the federal government and was there to provide not so fortunate children with the opportunity to gain knowledge from mathematicians as well as scientists who have experience in these fields. Students are in this program for 6 weeks and have coursework in mathematics and laboratory science, as well as literature.

Boaler uses Carol Dweck's research showing that "gender differences in mathematics performance only existed among fixed mindset students" (Boaler, 2013). In addition, there have been tests administered by L.S. Blackwell to see if the fixed mindset of women can be changed to a growth mindset (Boaler, 2013). This is the mindset in which Boaler and Dweck believe people can gain knowledge. Boaler said, "The key growth mindset message was that effort changes the brain by forming new connections, and that students control this process. In Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, where the Theravada school is dominant, there is a long tradition of temporary ordination. During a school break, many young men usually ordain for a week or two to earn merit for loved ones and to gain knowledge of Buddhist teachings. In most countries, this temporary ordination occurs during the vassa retreat, which is regarded as a period of intensified spiritual effort by local Buddhists. She is currently still in this role, and supports a number of other surveyors within her department. The group of collaborators took trips to the Hudson River in the Adirondack Mountains, the Catskill Mountains near the Ashokan Reservoir, and New York City's outer edge by the water in order to gain knowledge and inspiration.

By using hashtags, activists are able to bring awareness to social issues. Crandall and Cunningham point out that this is both beautiful and interesting, because it encourages learning, conversations, and community for social justice, and that it is also dark and confusing, because the open environment of the internet also allows hashtags to be used for hate speech and threats of violence. Rimpel was the Teen Programs Manager at the Walker Art Center's Teen Arts Council in 2010 where she encouraged teens to learn artistic and creative problem-solving skills as well as gain knowledge of the arts and their potential for civic contribution. The UK Uganda Scout Network is a forum where members of The Scout Association who are interested in promoting International Scouting and in particular with a specific interest in building friendships with the people of Uganda. Leadership analysis is the art of breaking down a leader into basic psychological components for study and use by academics and practitioners. Good leadership analysis is not reductionist, but rather takes into consideration the overall person in the context of the times, society and culture from which they come. Leadership analysis is traditionally housed in political psychology departments and utilizes the tools of psychology to achieve political ends by exploiting the psyche in the case of practitioners, or to gain knowledge about the building blocks of leadership and individuals in the case of academics. The distinction between the two is not made frivolously; in fact, while academics and practitioners both engage in the overarching act of analyzing leaders, they go about it quite differently.

The Russian sawfiler Peter Alexandrovich Boboshkin from Nizhny Novgorod Governorate travelled through northern Sweden, from Kiruna to Hudiksvall in the spring of 1910, and passed through Boden. When this picture was taken in March that year (location unknown), he had placed his filing machine on military territory. Strict secrecy surrounded the fortress for a very long time, and there were several attempts made by foreign powers to gain knowledge of various kinds of information. One early possible attempt at espionage were the Russian sawfilers who travelled through Sweden, mostly in Norrland during the last years of the 19th century and the years leading up to World War I. A large part of the Swedish population believed that the sawfilers, no more than 300 in total in Sweden, were spies hired by the Okhrana, the Russian secret police.

He collaborated with the Rwanda Tennis Federation and the Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee to host a training session for ten of the top juniors in the nation along with several national coaches to assist in further developing the sport of tennis in Rwanda, providing opportunities for young players and coaches to gain knowledge and have access to tennis supplies. The event took place during the final weekend of the Genocide Memorial Tennis Tournament at the National Training Center based out of the Stade National Amahoro in Kigali, Rwanda's capital and largest city.

Although collecting new materials is viewed as a central mission of the library, maintaining the condition of library collections, which includes less satisfactory activities such as weeding, book repair, shifting and counting what libraries think they have on their shelves, are also a vital part of the library's mission to provide access to current patrons, as well as those people who will use the library at some point in the future. Each time an inventory is conducted the physical condition of the collection and bibliographic representation problems are identified and addressed. “This enables the integrity of the OPAC to be strengthened, [making] it a more effective resource for users”. Improved accessibility of collections for users has a tremendous impact on patron service and how the library is perceived. During an inventory process “library staff gain knowledge of the collection and are [better] able to provide stronger customer service.” Patrons benefit from the confidence library staff gain in their collections and in their collection development skills.

Lidski Imported American- and British-made Yiddish books of various types: fiction and non-fiction, textbooks and sheet music. Apart from numerous American-made fiction books, including many Yiddish adaptations of world literature, Lidski allowed for the Jews of Eastern Europe – more than 1,200,000 of whom were to immigrate to the United States in the years 1904 to 1914 alone – to gain knowledge about America, using a wide selection of books: the store sold Yiddish publications about the history of the United States, the U.S. Constitution and key personalities and events in American history, novels of American life and its Jewish immigrants, and books and dictionaries for learning English by Alexander Harkavy. Being close to radical circles, Lidski continued helping Jewish revolutionaries import socialist literature. Thanks to his agility and entrepreneurship, the publishing gradually evolved and expanded – especially in the years following the revolution of 1905, along with the general increase in demand for books in Yiddish from a broad readership.

The intent of CBEFF is to define an approach to generically store and exchange biometric data in a structure where accompanying meta-data defines the data it carries. This means a client application need not be concerned with the specifics of every possible biometric type (eg: face, finger, iris, etc) or encoding format (eg: XML, TLV encoded, simple byte encoded, etc), rather it needs know only two things to access data it is interested in: # how to parse the header (SBH) of a CBEFF compliant data structure, and; # know the identifier for each specific biometric type it is capable of parsing (where the identifier is obtained from the SBH) The motivation for a self-describing data format reduces the burden on client applications in dealing with a multitude of biometric types and encodings. This strategy permits an application to effectively ignore any biometric data unknown to it. Using CBEFF an application needs only know how to read a CBEFF structure to gain knowledge about whether the biometric data it contains is of interest.

The Norwegian Storting (parliament) Standing Committee on Railways' recommendation of 10 December 1921 on "the revision of principles for railway construction" stated that in cases where a new railway would be expensive or difficult to build, or where the traffic would be too small to give any good income, one should always consider the possibility of starting an automobile route instead. On the basis of this it was decided that the State Railways would start some test routes to gain knowledge on this form of transportation. The first three test routes were started in late 1925 with the very first being the "Selbu route" between Selbu and Hell Station on 9 November, then the "Karmøy route" between Skudeneshavn and Haugesund on 21 November and the "Lågendal route" between Skollenborg and Larvik on 19 December. The test routes were started as a separate division of the State Railways, but other routes being started in the following years became part of the local railway district, and as the years went by, the test routes also became part of their local railway district.

Early in the game, the player is given a research camera; by taking photographs of enemies, the player will cumulatively gain knowledge about the individual foes which translates into attack boosts and other benefits when facing that enemy type in the future. Because of the influence of the inertial sciences and the success of the method used to gain knowledge of the laws and principles applying to inert nature, the initial approach was to apply the same method to vital nature. What emerged from this was the extensive study in the first part of the 1700s of ‘irritability’, this being based on the central nervous system and involving physical forces such as electricity and magnetism. However, the mechanico-material explanation was not fruitful when it came to actually dealing with life in the case of healthcare practitioners. Albrecht Von Haller's (1708–77) 'irritability' hypothesis and its failure adequately to explain the phenomenon of life, as well as the waning capacity of the Western mentality to participate living nature that lay at the root of the Hippocratic system of humours (or noetic capacities), led to a split between those who clung to the ancient tradition, but in name only (becoming routinists or empiricists), and those, largely in the universities, who sought a (material- mechanical) scientific basis regarding life and medicine. This split led to a widely acknowledged crisis in Western ‘medicine’ in the latter half of the 1700s.
