During its early years the facility was used mostly for the filming of music videos and commercials, although occasionally scenes for motion pictures were shot there, including Highlander and Garbo Talks. Norman Leigh, well known among New York City filmmakers for his electrical/gaffing work on the 1969 film Midnight Cowboy, oversaw the studio during its first few years. Over the years, use of the studio's space has shifted toward the production of television series.

Leonetti began his career as a teenager working for his family's motion picture equipment business that was started by his father Frank Leonetti, known for his gaffing work on films such as The Wizard of Oz and Singin' in the Rain. Leonetti was a cinematographer on feature films such as Child's Play 3, The Mask, and Mortal Kombat. He began his filmmaking career with Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and has gone on to direct The Butterfly Effect 2, Annabelle, and Wish Upon.

When hooked, most fish will circulate in different directions, and when they are not pulling away from the boat the fisherman can take the opportunity to reel in some of the line. Eventually, if the fish tires and has not broken the line, they will be reeled in; however, the challenge does not end there. Hauling a heavy, powerful, and still very much alive fish on board the boat represents a considerable challenge, unless the fish is tagged and released. Strategies include: gaffing, pulling it in with ones hands, and if it is a smallish game fish, a net.

One of the millers here was a cousin of the Smiths of Coldstream Mill and he taught them the milling craft (Griffith 2004). A track from the mill ran to Byres Farm and thus to the main road (Bartholomew 1912). The leat for the mill ran from a dam on the other side of the 'river loop', then behind the miller's dwelling to finally run under the road to enter the mill site. It is said locally that the dam was removed, after the closure of the mill, by the anglers, who lost salmon to poachers gaffing them as they leapt over it.

Members of Image Ten were involved in filming and post- production, participating in loading camera magazines, gaffing, constructing props, recording sounds and editing. Production stills were shot and printed by Karl Hardman, who stated in an interview that a "number of cast members formed a production line in the darkroom for developing, washing and drying of the prints as I made the exposures. As I recall, I shot over 1,250 pictures during the production". Upon completion of post-production, Image Ten found it difficult to secure a distributor willing to show the film with the gruesome scenes intact.

His appearance on the syndicated adventure series, The Everglades, reunited him with series star Ron Hayes, with whom he had been cast in the film Gunmen from Laredo. Knapp's last role was in 1975 in the Eddie Albert/Robert Wagner CBS drama Switch, in which he played Lieutenant Stone in the unusually titled episode "Gaffing the Skim".

Jeff Ballard started working with glass at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in the fall of 1996. After receiving his BFA in 2000 Ballard spent six years gaffing and designing work for production studios across the Southwest. He has taken classes and worked at Pilchuck Glass School, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and the Pittsburgh Glass Center, studying under notable artists such as Dante Marioni, Chris Taylor, Davide Salvadore and Pino Signoretto. In 2006 Ballard re-located to the Northwest where he spends time creating his own work while teaching classes at the Eugene Glass School and the University of Oregon Craft Center.
