A screecher is a sail that combines the features of a spinnaker and a reacher. Its similarity with a spinnaker is that it is not attached to a stay along its luff, and typically has a slightly larger curvature than a genoa. On 16 September 1980, the 22nd Signal Brigade was placed on the active rolls in an augmentation carrier status. A reorganization of the assets of the 32nd Signal Battalion (Corps) to create the Brigade Headquarters and the 17th Signal Battalion followed. When France made the final decision to withdraw from NATO, the 22nd kept communication channels open to withdrawing US forces until 16 March 1967. The Golden Legend, which derives its account from the much older Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew, tells a similar story, although it notes that all marriageable men of the Davidic line and not only widowers were ordered by the High Priest to present their rods at the Temple. Several Eastern Orthodox Nativity icons show Joseph tempted by the Devil (depicted as an old man with furled wings) to break off his betrothal, and how he resists that temptation.

Detlev Löll and Hanns Temme purchased the ship at an auction and, with the help of some of the former crew, sailed the ship to Wolgast in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In spring 1992, a complete overhaul began, in the course of which the ship received a new exterior keel and was refitted as a brig; the rig includes five square sails at each mast and includes lifting yards for the upper-three yards (upper main topsail, topgallant and royal) at each mast, lowering the center of gravity of the ship when sails are furled. The overhaul was subsidized by the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Bundesagentur für Arbeit and formed part of the job creation program "Fridtjof Nansen" (led by the owner), which comprised the refitting of this ship as well as other sailing ships and . In 1993, the ship was put to its new use under the name of Roald Amundsen.

The International J/105 is a fixed keel one design racing sailboat. It was the first production boat featuring a retractable bowsprit, which allows for an unusually large asymmetric spinnaker. It was introduced in 1991 by J/Boats and designed by Rod Johnstone. J/105s are a common sight in one design racing and to date, Jboats has built 685 J/105s. The J/105 is regarded as a fast design with a clean deck layout. It was selected as the 1992 "Boat of the Year" in the Racer/Cruiser category by Sailing World Magazine. The concept behind the J/105 line is to produce boats that are fast, strong, fun and easy to sail shorthanded while racing in One Design fleets or while cruising with dodger raised, sails furled and swim ladder swung off the transom. J/105 has the stability, rig and sail controls to handle 15-20 knot winds without the need of reefing.

AN ANCIENT IRON CARGO IN THE INDIAN OCEAN: THE GODAVAYA SHIPWRECK A terracotta seal from Chandraketugarh according to J. Deloche may represent furled lateen sail. Boats depicted in Chamardi rock cave painting dated to Maitraka dynasty from 5th century-7th century AD (but sometimes dated as late as 10th, 12th or 14th century) provides evidence of two Kotiya ships with lateen sail also with mounted rudder.Rock Art Fore and aft sail has also been depicted in Ajantha ship painting of 6th century AD. According to archaeologist Daniel T Potts, An iron age pendant from Tell Abraq also shows one of the earliest depiction of lateen sails dated 1000-500 BC After 1500, the situation in the Indian Ocean dramatically changed, with nearly all vessels now being lateen rigged. As Portuguese hull design and construction methods are known to have been subsequently adopted by Eastern Muslim shipbuilders, it is assumed that this process also included the lateen rigging of the novel caravel.

Locksley Hall was parodied, not without beauty, to the foxhunter at least, by the Victorian English foxhunting MP William Bromley Davenport (1821–1884) in his poem "Lowesby Hall", named after a famous hunting seat in Leicestershire, the pre-eminent fox-hunting county.
