In 1996, he was repackaged as The Sultan, a masked wrestler who never spoke, ostensibly because his tongue was cut out. He was managed by The Iron Sheik and Bob Backlund. He unsuccessfully challenged Rocky Maivia for the WWF Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 13. The Sultan vanished in 1998, when Fatu left to train at Dory Funk's Funking Conservatory wrestling school.

Dorrance Earnest Funk (born February 3, 1941) is an American professional wrestler and wrestling trainer. He is the son of Dory Funk and brother of Terry Funk, and was the promoter of the Amarillo, Texas-based Western States Sports promotion. He is credited with the invention of the Texas cloverleaf submission hold and runs the Funking Conservatory, a professional wrestling school. Funk held the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship once.

Immediately after graduating from university, Weston moved to Ocala, Florida in 2011, where the Funking Conservatory was located. Documented to have been wrestling there since May 2011, Weston managed to become the FC Heavyweight Champion, as well as the European Champion and the Florida Champion. Cory James Weston (born September 4, 1987) is an American professional wrestler currently signed to WWE, where he performs on the SmackDown brand under the ring name Wesley Blake. Weston debuted in 2011 under his real name on the Florida independent circuit, most notably for Dory Funk Jr.'s Funking Conservatory. He signed with WWE in 2013, portraying a cowboy gimmick in NXT during his first year. He later formed a tag team with Buddy Murphy, and the two, managed by Alexa Bliss, won the NXT Tag Team Championship once.

On the February 16, 2009 episode of Raw, it was announced that Dory along with his brother Terry would be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2009 by Dusty Rhodes. Thomas Jones began training at the age of 16 under Kris Kay in Gosport, England. He returned to New Japan in 1998 and teamed with Shinya Hashimoto in the struggle against NWO Japan's Keiji Mutoh and Masahiro Chono, who held the IWGP Tag Team Championship, but they were unsuccessful. Nishimura also failed to unseat IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kensuke Sasaki, and Nishimura was diagnosed with cancer later in the year. Nishimura was inactive until the cancer went into remission in 2000, following treatment. In 2001, he went to the United States again to polish his skills at the Funking Conservatory in Florida, under the eye of Dory Funk, Jr. (whom Nishimura admired from watching matches of New Japan's founder Antonio Inoki).

On September 5 at Fall Brawl, Coates and Reiff lost to The Wasilla Wrecking Crew (Charlotte Mahoy and Rachael Moore) in a match for the Funking Conservatory Women's Tag Team Championship. At Morbid Power on October 17, she and Reiff defeated The Wasilla Wrecking Crew for the Women's Tag Team Title. Despite being partners, Coates and Reiff wrestled in a three- way match for Reiff's Women's Title that also involved then-champion Rachael Moore at Turkey Shoot on November 21, which Moore won to retain the title. On December 31 at Hell's Bells, Coates competed in a gauntlet match for the Women's Championship, but was unable to win as Reiff reclaimed the title.

In 2007, Raaber participated in the Campeonato Internacional De Lucha Libre X-Trema CWS 2007 for Colombian Wrestling Superstars and made it to the final before losing a battle royal to Lloyd Anoaʻi. In spring 2009 it was revealed that Raaber had signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment and was sent to Florida Championship Wrestling.
