Following a four-week hospitalization, Cardinal López Trujillo died on 19 April 2008 in Rome, aged 72, due to a respiratory infection. His funeral Mass was held on 23 April 2008 in St. Peter's Basilica. Cardinal Angelo Sodano was principal celebrant of the Mass, and Pope Benedict XVI delivered the homily and performed the final absolution.

During the funeral mass, Bishop Singaroyan (student of Archbishop Michael Augustine at St.Peter's Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore) preached a sermon on the sanctity, sincerity and love of Archbishop Michael Augustine and on his life of FIAT. After the funeral mass, Archbishop Chinnappa sung in Latin the final rites inside the Cathedral.
Nouwen died in the Netherlands on September 21, 1996, from a sudden heart attack, while en route to Russia to participate in a Dutch documentary about his book The Return of the Prodigal Son. Stanley Joseph Ott, S.T.D., (June 29, 1927 – November 28, 1992) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Bishop of Baton Rouge from 1983 until his death in 1992. Stanley Ott was the cousin of Mel Ott and celebrated the Funeral Mass for Elmo Patrick Sonnier, a convicted murderer who was buried near the graves of bishops.
Doyle was interred in Kilmashogue Cemetery after funeral Mass at the Annunciation Church in Rathfarnham, Dublin on 23 September 2010. Hundreds of people attended, including notable journalists, Vincent Browne, former taoiseach Albert Reynolds, MEP Mairead McGuinness and a representative of the President. Reilly died at the Murray-Weigel Hall Jesuit care facility at Fordham University on December 10, 2009, at the age of 94. Reilly's funeral mass took place at the Fordham University Church. He was buried at the Jesuit Martyrs' Shrine in Auriesville, New York.

Hauenstein turned 100 in March 2012 and died in his sleep of natural causes at his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan on January 10, 2016 at the age of 103. His funeral Mass was said on January 15 by Bishop David J. Walkowiak of the Diocese of Grand Rapids at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew.

Her death was determined to have been caused by a fatal combination of alcohol and barbiturates. Her funeral Mass was November 11 at St. Vincent Ferrer; John Daly, Arlene Francis, Betty White, Ed Sullivan, Joseph E. Levine, and Bob Considine were among the 2600 people attending. The liturgical books for the extraordinary form have never prescribed a particular Mass for the funeral of such children, but the custom is that the votive Mass of the Angels is said. The funeral Mass is sometimes called the "Mass of Christian Burial", "Mass of the Resurrection", or "Memorial Mass", but these terms are not found in the Order of Christian Funerals, which is the official book in the ordinary form of the Church, and should be discouraged.

Ill for some time, McDonald moved from Rustico to St. Dunstan's College shortly before his death. Following his death on December 30, 1859, a large funeral mass was held in Charlottetown, and the Bishop's remains were interred in his native home of St. Andrew's.

He took part in the conclaves that elected Pope John Paul I and Pope John Paul II in August and October. He lost the right to participate any future conclaves when turned 80 years of age in 1985. He died on 5 October 1993 in Rome. His funeral mass, presided over by Pope John Paul II, and concelebrated by thirty cardinals and numerous archbishops and bishops, took place in the patriarchal Vatican basilica at 5:30 pm on 7 October 1993.

According to the Kalamazoo Gazette, his car had, in darkness, blundered into a shallow pond. He managed to extricate himself from the car, and to reach a concrete pad some yards away, where he evidently sustained a heart attack. Foul play was not suspected. Allen Henry Vigneron, the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Province of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit, Michigan, was the principal celebrant at the Wednesday, May 4, 2011 Funeral Mass in the Diocese of Kalamazoo's St. Augustine Cathedral.
Whether or not her healing miracles are real, she herself did not receive any such healing, and was bedridden and unable to talk or move until her death on April 14, 2007 from cardio-respiratory failure. Family, friends and clergy were at her side. The vigil was held April 17, 2007 and the funeral mass on April 18, 2007, both at St. Paul's Cathedral in Worcester, Massachusetts. The public was allowed to attend these two events, but the burial was private.
Cardinal Mahony graduated from St. Charles School St. Charles also has long ties with Cardinal Roger Mahony, the Archbishop of the Los Angeles Archdiocese since 1985. Cardinal Mahony's parents were married at the original church on Weddington Street, and he went to grammar school at St. Charles Borromeo grammar school, graduating in 1950. When the Cardinal's mother, Loretta Mahony died in 1995, Mahony celebrated her funeral Mass at St. Charles Borromeo. Mahony also celebrated the parish's 75 anniversary Mass in November 1996.
Korp died at 2 a.m. on Friday, 5 August 2005, and her funeral mass was held one week later and almost six months to the day after she was found. Forbidden by family to attend the service, Joe Korp invited the media to a private funeral ceremony at his home where he sang "Unchained Melody" and "The Lady in Red". In 1969, they were published by Matica hrvatska in Zagreb. After creating four clay sculptures to memorialize his children, Meštrović died in early 1962, aged 79, in South Bend, Indiana. Richard died on August 6, 2014, in Greenwich, Connecticut at the age of 83 with Karen his wife of 24 years by his side.. Cardinal Bernard Francis Law celebrated Marier's funeral Mass at The Church of St. Paul (Harvard Square) in Cambridge. In the 1950s Cardinal Law, while an undergraduate at Harvard, had sung under Marier's direction. "Professor Marier effectively transmitted his inspiration about Gregorian chant to generations of Catholic musicians", wrote Helen Hull Hitchcock, editor of the Adoremus Bulletin. She had been recruited to sing in a schola Marier conducted at a symposium of the Church Music Association of America where she had given a lecture on liturgical translation.
Cagney died of a heart attack at his Dutchess County farm in Stanford, New York, on Easter Sunday 1986; he was 86 years old. A funeral Mass was held at St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in Manhattan. The eulogy was delivered by his close friend, Ronald Reagan, who was also the President of the United States at the time. His pallbearers included boxer Floyd Patterson, dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov (who had hoped to play Cagney on Broadway), actor Ralph Bellamy, and director Miloš Forman.
In 1980 Robinson was the Jesuit chaplain at Mercy Hospital, Toledo, Ohio, United States, where he ministered to the sick and terminally ill. Sister Margaret Ann was the caretaker of the chapel. Robinson was convicted of strangling and stabbing Pahl, who was 71 at the time, in the sacristy of a chapel of the hospital where they worked together. The priest presided at her funeral Mass four days after her death. Pahl was stabbed 31 times, including nine times in the shape of an inverted cross.

Ciriaci died in Rome on 30 December 1966 at age 81. His funeral Mass was celebrated by Pope Paul on 3 January 1967 in the basilica of San Lorenzo in Lucina.

In 1977, aged 15, she was killed by a letterbomb addressed to her father. In the presence of her brother Kevin (then 10 years old), she opened the package, which she thought to be a present since it was covered in wrapping paper. After attending the xigmo (spring festival) in Canacona the previous night, Matanhy suffered a massive heart attack in the early hours of 21 March 2012, and died at 3 am in Campal, Goa. He was buried at the cemetery of the Catholic Church of Saint Thomas, in his native village of Cansaulim, in the evening of 24 March 2012. His funeral mass was led by the Archbishop Patriarch of Goa e Damão, Filipe Neri Ferrão and around 100 priests. The funeral was attended by around 10,000 people.

He died on March 29, 2020, of liver cancer at Murray-Weigel Hall, a Jesuit retirement home and infirmary on the Fordham campus in the Bronx, New York, at the age of 89. Joe O'Brien was a member of the Board of Directors of the United States Trotting Association and served as president of the California Breeder's Association. That evening another NYPD officer, Michael Buczek, was killed while trying to arrest two suspects on a drugs charge in apartment building at 580 West 161st Street in Washington Heights in Manhattan. It was the first time in the history of the NYPD that two officers were killed in separate incidents on the same night. Hoban and Buczek did not know each other, but they held a joint funeral Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn on October 22, 1988.

A Catholic funeral mass was held at the Saint-Louis-en-l'Île church in Paris, funeral guests were Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, Claude Pompidou, Bernadette Chirac, Gianni Agnelli, Alain Delon and Yves Saint Laurent. She was buried in Touques, Calvados where for more than a century her husband's branch of the French Rothschild family has owned Haras de Meautry, a noted horse farm.

Deck came in 1860 and purchased 160 acres of land, partially improved, from William Wilcox, taking everything on the place, the house, the furniture, the stock, and the crop in the field. He left and went to Milwaukee to get his family and returned to his land. On August 17, 1862, Phillip's wife Salome was home sick in bed, and Phillip was away from home helping a neighbor harvest when news of the Acton Massacre came.
Casoria died at Clinica Pio XI in Rome, at age 92. John Paul II celebrated his funeral Mass at St. Peter's Basilica two days later, on February 10, 2001; his niece and her husband read the two first readings of the liturgy. During the homily, the Pope described Casoria as "a soul in love with Christ, whom he always tried to imitate as a priest, serving him with total dedication in his daily work for the Church." He was later buried in his family's tomb in his native Acerra.

A funeral mass for Lauricella was held on April 2, 2014 at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 7100 Jefferson Highway in Harahan. The obituary does not list a place of interment.
In December 2003, as Courtney was returning to Bujumbura from a funeral, gunmen fired at his car near Minago, 30 miles south of the capital. He suffered gunshot wounds to the head, shoulder and leg and died from hemorrhaging during surgery at La Prince Louis Rwagasore Hospital in Bujumbura. Archbishop Simon Ntamwana blamed the militant Hutu National Liberation Forces (FNL), but the FNL, which supported the November agreement, denied any responsibility and said Ntamwana should leave the country. A crowd of 1500 attended a funeral Mass for Courtney in Burundi on 31 December.

In Santería, funeral rites are called itulu, and are designed to appease the soul of the deceased. As part of this, a funeral mass is held in a Roman Catholic church nine days after the individual has died to ensure that their soul successfully travels to the realm of the spirits. This is followed by a year of additional rites for the deceased individual. This period is then ended with the levantamiento de platos, the breaking of a dish, to symbolise the final departure of the deceased from the realm of the living.
A deceased lay person's feet are towards the altar, but a priest's are away from the altar, positions reminiscent of their relative positions when alive and celebrating Mass. Cushing gave the prayer invocation at Kennedy's inauguration in 1961. The Cardinal also celebrated President Kennedy's funeral Mass in 1963 at St. Matthew's Cathedral, Washington, D.C., following Kennedy's assassination in Dallas, Texas.
At the funeral Mass for the victims at St Patrick's Church, Rev Bernard Laverty told the congregation that even the Black and Tans "had not been guilty of anything approaching this [crime] in its unspeakable barbarity". The McMahons had been "done to death merely because they were Catholics", but he told the mourners to practise "patience and forbearance" and not to seek revenge. Irish Nationalist Party MP Joe Devlin told the British Parliament, "If Catholics have no revolvers to protect themselves they are murdered. If they have revolvers they are flogged and sentenced to death".
Bermingham died on 21 November 1998 at his residence on the Fordham University campus in The Bronx, at the age of 80. His body was reposed at the Loyola Hall Chapel at Fordham, with visitation in the three days preceding the funeral. A funeral mass was later celebrated at Fordham University Church. Rodrigue in his studio in 2009 George Rodrigue (March 13, 1944 – December 14, 2013) was an American artist originally from New Iberia, Louisiana, who in the late 1960s began painting Louisiana landscapes, followed soon after by outdoor family gatherings and southwest Louisiana 19th-century and early 20th-century genre scenes. His paintings often include moss-clad oak trees, which are common to an area of French Louisiana known as Acadiana. In the mid-1990s Rodrigue's Blue Dog paintings, based on a Cajun legend called Loup-garou, catapulted him to worldwide fame. Father Vincent Cooke died from pancreatic cancer at the Murray-Weigel Hall Jesuit care facility on the campus Fordham University in The Bronx on June 22, 2017, at the age of 81. His funeral mass was held at the Fordham University Church with burial at the Jesuit Cemetery in Auriesville, New York.

At about 8:30 on the 18th he informed his staff that he was retiring for the evening and ordered them not to disturb him unless absolutely necessary as the divine office he wanted to pray was long and he wanted to make sure he finished. Around 11:00 pm his housekeeper heard Loras moaning and informed Father McCabe, who proceeded to the Bishop's room and found him collapsed on the floor. Walerian Pańko, who was going from Warsaw to Katowice to deliver a lecture, suffered severe injuries, and as a result of this accident he died shortly after. On October 11 he was buried in the cemetery in Jasionowie. A funeral mass was celebrated by the ordinary of the Diocese of Przemysl, Ignacy Tokarczuk.

In 1965, Alemany's body was brought back to San Francisco after a funeral Mass said by Archbishop Joseph T. McGucken at the Old Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception his remains were buried in the Archbishops' Crypt in the mausoleum in Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma, California. He was an author, publishing his The Life of St. Dominick. Alemany Boulevard and the Alemany Maze in San Francisco, Bishop Alemany High School in Mission Hills, California and the Archbishop Alemany Library at Dominican University of California in San Rafael are all named in his honor.

A restoration was made in 2005, the church authorities and the Maltese order restored the habit of hanging coat of arms. During the Council, he sang the Funeral Mass and delivered the sermon at the funeral of Cardinal Bonaventure, Bishop of Albano, who had died on 15 July 1274, and was buried on the same day in the Church of the Franciscans in Lyons.
Upon the death of John Paul II, a number of clergy at the Vatican and laymen began referring to the late pontiff as "John Paul the Great" — in theory only the fourth pope to be so acclaimed. Cardinal Angelo Sodano specifically referred to John Paul as "the Great" in his published written homily for the pope's funeral Mass of Repose. The South African Catholic newspaper The Southern Cross has referred to him in print as "John Paul II the Great". On November 23, 2008, the Archdiocese of Boston awarded Curran the Cheverus Award Medal in order to recognize his service to the Church and to God's people. On August 29, 2009, four members of the Little Brothers of St. Francis were invited by Cardinal Seán Patrick O'Malley, Archbishop of Boston, to serve as acolytes at the Funeral Mass of Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy. The Mass was held at the Basilica and Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the parish to which the Little Brothers of St. Francis' belonged and where they attended daily Mass. Fire officials said the owners failed to correct a faulty alarm system, amid other fire code violations. Some fire doors had been illegally propped open. Church of the Immaculate Conception in Westlake Four hundred mourners were at a special eulogy at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Ninth Street (later James M. Wood Boulevard) in Westlake, where Cardinal Roger M. Mahony called upon city authorities to work toward improving apartment safety. Among the mourners were elementary school classmates of two of the dead children and a Fire Department honor guard of about two dozen firefighters, dressed in formal black uniforms. In all, the caskets at the funeral Mass contained the remains of 11, including three mothers (two of them pregnant), two fetuses and six children.

Carroll O'Connor's grave O'Connor died on June 21, 2001, in Culver City, California, from a heart attack due to complications from diabetes at age 76. His funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Westwood, Los Angeles, California, and was attended by All in the Family cast members Rob Reiner, Sally Struthers, and Danielle Brisebois, as well as producer Norman Lear. Jean Stapleton, who had been a close friend of O'Connor's since the early 1960s, did not attend the service due to a commitment for a stage performance. O'Connor's best friend Larry Hagman and his family were also there, alongside the surviving cast of In the Heat of the Night, including Alan Autry and Denise Nicholas, who also attended the Mass.
When Edward IV died in April 1483, Rotherham was one of the celebrants of the funeral mass on 20 April 1483. Immediately after Edward's death, Rotherham sided with dowager queen Elizabeth Woodville in her attempt to deprive Richard, Duke of Gloucester of his role as Lord Protector of the new King, her son Edward V. When Elizabeth sought sanctuary after Richard had taken charge of the king, Rotherham released the Great Seal to her. Though he later recovered it and handed it over to Thomas Bourchier, Archbishop of Canterbury, his mishandling of the seal – indicative of questionable loyalty, led to his dismissal as Lord Chancellor. On 13 May he was replaced by John Russell, who earlier had also been his successor as Bishop of Lincoln.
Known for his public speaking, Ourso was described by Gary J. Hebert, the late publisher of the Post/South newspaper in Plaquemine, as "unequaled in color, startling in analogies, disarmingly devious in approach, and at times, just downright funny to the point of tears." Ourso died in Houston, Texas, at the age of forty-six. According to the former Iberville South,The Iberville South and the Plaquemine Post/South merged in 1982. four thousand mourners visited the funeral home where Ourso's body lay in state, two thousand came to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for the funeral mass, hundreds of others lined the route of the funeral procession, and eight hundred witnessed the burial at Grace Memorial Park in Plaquemine.
In June 1970, three years before the Roe v. Wade decision and when abortion was illegal in most of United States outside California, Washington, D.C., and New York, Brent and Patricia Bozell led the first "Operation Rescue" mission to try by direct action to negotiate with administrators at George Washington University Hospital Clinic in D.C., where abortion was permitted for the mental well- being of the mother. Bozell had asked clinic administrators to stop the abortions and, if they would not do so, to appoint a Catholic nurse to administer Baptism and prepare the remains for Catholic burial after each abortion. Bozell and about 230 others met at a local church for a "Funeral Mass for The Holy Innocents" celebrated by four priests.
In January 1666 he collaborated with Andrea Seghizzi on the decorations and objects made for the funeral of Duke Charles II Gonzaga, Duke of Nevers in the Basilica palatina di Santa Barbara in Mantua. Kennedy, Leonard Bernstein conducted the New York Philharmonic and the Schola Cantorum of New York in a nationally televised memorial featuring the "Resurrection Symphony" by Gustav Mahler.
He arrived to a frigid welcome since his predecessor in that church was well-loved and his stewardship of the parish respected. Not long after his appointment a child who was eleven died and his parents requested a white coffin for his funeral Mass. But Samsó told them that liturgical norms permitted a white coffin for children who died before the age of reason and so denied them their request leading to people threatening to throw rocks at him after the funeral for what was perceived to be inappropriate behavior and poor judgement. It was no secret to him or others that he was disliked when he first took over but people soon warmed to him and came to respect his educational qualities as well as his holiness.
The Archbishop of Olinda e Recife José Cardoso Sobrinho presided over his funeral Mass was conducted in the Estádio do Arruda in Recife with twelve bishops and 138 priests present for the funeral; his coffin had to be helicoptered to the burial site since the people clogged the streets which made ground travel impossible. His remains were interred in the Nostra Signora delle Grazie chapel in Pina near Recife. Cardinal Paulo Evaristo Arns praised Giannotti after the friar's death and called him one of the greatest missionaries in Brazilian history; the cardinal said that he had delivered "firm teaching" that exhorted others to observe "good moral conduct". In 2004 came the inauguration of a memorial erected in his honor in Guarabira in Paraíba that had been in construction since 2000.
According to Sunset Funeral Home director Chris Lujan, Scalia's family also declined to have an autopsy performed after his body was transferred to his El Paso funeral home, prior to its return to Fairfax, Virginia. Following his death, Scalia lay in repose in the Great Hall of the United States Supreme Court Building on February 19th, 2016. Scalia's son, Father Paul Scalia, celebrated a Catholic funeral Mass and delivered the homily on February 20, 2016, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. The Obama administration was represented at the funeral by Vice President Joe Biden; President Barack Obama did not attend, though he was at the homily. Scalia's remains were interred at a private ceremony at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, Virginia.
Rigali was later appointed the eighth Archbishop of Philadelphia by Pope John Paul II toward the end of his pontificate on July 15, 2003, replacing the retiring Anthony Bevilacqua. Prior to Rigali's installation in Philadelphia on October 7, 2003, it was announced on September 28 that he would be elevated to the College of Cardinals, a customary privilege for the archbishops of Philadelphia. Rigali was created Cardinal-Priest of Santa Prisca in the consistory of October 21, 2003. Rigali was the only American cardinal to serve as a concelebrant at the 2005 funeral mass for John Paul II. He was also one of the cardinal electors who participated in the ensuing papal conclave, which selected Pope Benedict XVI, as well as the following conclave, which selected Pope Francis.
On November 14, 1996, Bernardin died from pancreatic cancer at the age of 68. The funeral homily was given by his friend Reverend Monsignor Kenneth Velo. In the weeks before his death, Bernardin emphasized to the faithful and the public that he was at peace because of his life's profound reliance on God's sustaining grace in his ministry and his struggles with cancer, seeing death as "a continuation and a friend to prepare properly for by conducting ourselves well and letting go to abandon one's self to God in the end". He was interred in the Bishops' Mausoleum at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois, following a Funeral Mass celebrated by his good friend, Cardinal Roger Mahony, and a wake for priests at which his good friend Father Scott Donahue spoke.
Olympic Hall Juan Antonio Samaranch, formerly Olympic Hall Zetra, in Sarajevo Samaranch died of cardio-respiratory failure in the Hospital Quirón in Barcelona on 21 April 2010, having suffered ill health for several years prior.. As a recipient of the Gold Medal of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Samaranch was laid-in-state in the Palau de la Generalitat. His funeral mass was held in the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia, on 22 April 2010 and was attended by representatives of the Spanish royal family and of the Olympic movement.. He was buried at the Montjuïc Cemetery. After his death, in June 2010, the Juan Antonio Samaranch Olympic and Sport Museum and the Olympic Hall Juan Antonio Samaranch, formerly Olympic Hall Zetra, in Sarajevo, Bosnia, were renamed in his honour.
The name inscribed at the foot of the tombstone is Famille Gassion- Piaf. Her name is engraved on the side as Madame Lamboukas dite Édith Piaf. Although she was denied a funeral Mass by Cardinal Maurice Feltin because of her lifestyle, her funeral procession drew tens of thousands of mourners onto the streets of Paris, and the ceremony at the cemetery was attended by more than 100,000 fans. Édith Piaf funeral – Video – French TV, 14 October 1963, INA Charles Aznavour recalled that Piaf's funeral procession was the only time since the end of World War II that he saw Parisian traffic come to a complete stop. On 10 October 2013, fifty years after her death, the Roman Catholic Church recanted and gave Piaf a memorial Mass in the St. Jean-Baptiste Church in Belleville, Paris, the parish into which she was born.

Valentino had no final burial arrangements and his friend June Mathis arranged a temporary solution when she offered a crypt that she had purchased for the husband that she had since divorced.
St Muredach's Cathedral on the banks of the River Moy in Ballina Gaughan's body was initially removed from London and on Friday, 7 June, and on Saturday, 8 June 1974, over 3,000 mourners lined the streets of Kilburn and marched behind his coffin, which was flanked by an IRA honour guard, to a Requiem Mass held in the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Dhanaraj's demise comes close on the heels of the notable Old Testament Scholar, Bishop emeritus Samuel Amirtham, CSI, who departed during the last week of September 2017.
