A unique occurrence called the "Knighthood" competition is held annually when the members (gentlemen commoners) compete to obtain 7 points, with the winner being awarded the title of "Knight-of-the-green" and becoming a sir (in lower case). The competition is adjudicated by the members who have previous won the competition (Knights), who adjudicate in top hats and frocked tails suits. Those who win are unable to compete again in future Knighthood competitions. This is the annual competition of the club with rules which are different from the normal variant of the game.

In Spring 1944 they sailed for north Africa and then Italy, making the push for the Po River Valley and the Gothic Line. After being re-established on August 1, 1973, the rating would only receive sailors who wanted to "cross-rate" (a rating conversion in the U.S. Navy) and submitted a conversion package to BUPERS after concurrence from NCIS. This conversion package was unique in that it required a letter of endorsement from rated master-at-arms in the community who observed the sailor first-hand in the performance of their assigned NSF duties. Along with the pre-requisites required at the time, these sailors must have been frocked as a second class petty officer or above. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Yale University and author of several scholarly books, Congregationalist Minister Wallace Mertin Short was far and away the most educated individual ever to have held elected municipal office in Sioux City. After crossing swords over the issue of temperance with the national elders of the Congregationalist Church and being officially de-frocked as minister of that church's Sioux City congregation, Short rented a movie house on Fourth Street and founded a successful non-denominational church open to all. He appealed to the downtrodden and dregs of society and enjoyed rubbing elbows in Sioux City taverns with common laborers. The intellectual Short suffered from severe insomnia, and made no secret of the fact that he personally consumed 1 large glass of beer every evening to help him sleep.

Video of Farrar-Bell producing pub signs from British Pathe News Farrar-Bell worked alongside Deane Skurray, son of Thomas Skurray, chairman of Morland United Breweries Abingdon. Together they designed a plaque that went in front of every Morland pub and hotel across Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey and London, to commemorate 250 years of brewing Skurray had the idea of a painter in a red frocked coat tricorn hat, so with this idea Farrar-Bell put pencil to paper and together they came up with the design, which became the new logo of Morland & Co. These ceramic plaques first made by Carter Tile Works in London and then the Poole pottery company, and still can be seen in more than 350 pubs across the Morland trading area, many in Abingdon, Reading, Oxford, Wantage, Maidenhead, Wokingham, Thame. Farrar-Bell also painted many of Morland's pub signs.

As in much of Morris's work, surrealism was an important part of the programme, the nonsense in the content ("De- frocked cleric eats car park", "Borrowed dog finds Scotland", etc.) delivered in the same straight-faced manner with which contemporary news stories are dealt, and it has often been quoted that Morris's initial intention was indeed to show how the public would believe anything if it was delivered with a straight-face. It did fool many people, with some listeners ringing in to complain about how the anchor treated his guests. The programme also utilised editing of out-of-context sound-clips and prank phone calls, heightening its surreal quality. The satirical edge was equally significant, both the references within news programmes to the fact that they are reporting the news and repeating the show's title as well as such aspects as newsspeak, media manipulation, exploitation of tragedies, patronising mistreatment of the general public, lack of fact-checking—personified by Marber's Peter O'Hanraha- hanrahan—and the general assumption that the programme itself is infallible ("On the Hour – Towards a New Eden").
