It is possible for a particle to have a constant value of between and , but only if some force acts to keep it there. Noncircular orbits, such as Mercury's, dwell longer at small radii than would be expected in Newtonian gravity. This can be seen as a less extreme version of the more dramatic case in which a particle passes through the event horizon and dwells inside it forever. Intermediate between the case of Mercury and the case of an object falling past the event horizon, there are exotic possibilities such as knife- edge orbits, in which the satellite can be made to execute an arbitrarily large number of nearly circular orbits, after which it flies back outward.

Red-rumped swallow in flight Hawking insects, like any feeding strategy, must provide a bird with sufficient nourishment to make the expenditure of energy worthwhile. The strategies and tactics for feeding on airborne insects are inextricably related to the adaptations and lifestyles of the birds that employ them. Flight, especially flight driven by the muscle-powered flapping of wings, is a strenuous physical activity. Although a sally from a perch may look like a single, rapid movement to the human eye, actually the bird must perform several moves: it begins its take- off by pushing with its feet to get into the air, it flaps its wings to generate forward motion (thrust), pursues the prey item, turns in the air, flies back, and, with a final flurry of wings, lands on its perch.

Hulme interprets how the words 'hate', 'fiend', and 'away' in this quatrain are more analogous to the devil than to Anne Hathaway: "In Shakespeare's 'fiend' context, his simple adverb 'away' may similarly bring to mind the adverbial phrase 'a devil way' defined as 'originally an impatient strengthening of AWAY'...As the fiend flies back to his proper place in hell, carrying away with him the 'hate' sense of the lady's unfinished 'I hate' sentence, day follows night for the poet!" (428). Stephen Booth brings up an interesting point that other critics had not really mentioned. He says that a lot of people hope that it is not part of Shakespeare's work due to the odd way in which it was written, "One cannot be certain that the sonnet is Shakespeare's, but the effect it describes- that of being surprised by a sentence that signals one direction and then takes another- is an effect that Shakespeare is very fond of actually achieving in his reader" (500).
