The Jonathan Bowers House stands on the east side of Wannalancit Street, a residential street just east of the Pawtucket Canal west of downtown Lowell. It is set at the top of a low rise traversed by the north-south road. It is 2-1/2 stories in height, and is built out of locally quarried granite. It is circular in shape, and is topped by a mansard roof with fish-scale slate shingles.

Atlantic salmon are a cold-water fish species and are particularly sensitive to changes in water temperature. The Housatonic River, and its Naugatuck River tributary, hosted the southernmost Atlantic salmon spawning runs in the United States. However, there is a 1609 account by Henry Hudson that Atlantic salmon once ran up the Hudson River. In addition, fish scale evidence dating to 10,000 years BP places Atlantic salmon in a coastal New Jersey pond.

Triparanol (, ; brand name and development code MER/29, as well as many other brand names) was the first synthetic cholesterol-lowering drug. It was patented in 1959 and introduced in the United States in 1960. It was withdrawn in 1962 due to severe adverse effects such as nausea and vomiting, vision loss due to irreversible cataracts, alopecia, skin disorders (e.g., dryness, itching, peeling, and "fish-scale" texture), and accelerated atherosclerosis and is now considered to be obsolete.

Still influenced by natural building processes—the outward, ringed growth of trees, layering of cells in an embryo, bundling of fibers into muscle, or accretive forming of shells—this work incorporated new methods (dappled, fish-scale-like surfaces, visible drips of sap-like glue) and materials (junked automotive parts and cast steel) that conflate the organic and fabricated. Sayville Congregational Church, also known as Sayville Congregational United Church of Christ, is a historic Congregational church at 131 Middle Road in Sayville, Suffolk County, New York. It was built in 1888 and is a Shingle Style building with a cross gabled roof, two prominent towers, and fish-scale shingles. It features a three-story, square bell tower with rounded, turret- like corners. See also: It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Saint John's Episcopal Church was founded in Petersburg, Virginia in 1868. The present brick edifice was begun in 1897, replacing a frame structure. The original plans did not include a steeple but the druggist across the street from the church stepped in and donated funds so that a steeple could be added. The church is of provincial Gothic design: brick and New England quarried brownstone with a distinctive Buckingham Slate roof in alternating fish scale and diamond patterns.

Various devices can be used to make ascending easier. "Fish scale" pattern friction aids embossed in the center section of the bottoms of the skis or sticky ski wax in the center pocket are used in lower-angle or rolling terrain. Climbing skins are used when fish scales or ski wax fail to provide sufficient grip for skiing steeply uphill. Ski crampons may be attached when conditions are particularly icy or the grade too steep for skins.

The Jacob Miller House is a private house located at 307 Jackson Street in Petoskey, Michigan. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.. The Jacob Miller House is a two-story, cross-gabled frame Queen Anne structure with a single story addition in the rear. The front facade has a hip-roof, wrap-around porch supported by Doric columns. The house is sheathed with clapboard, with the gables covered with ornamental fish-scale shingles.

Much of the machinery was relocated to the roof, and a new steel structure had to be inserted around existing structures to keep vibrations from the equipment to a minimum. An inventory and description taken after Pelham's death served as a guide for the restoration. The grisaille paintings that Kent had fashioned for the Great Room ceiling, and others, have been restored and regilded. Some of the later remodeling attempts have been preserved, like Owen Jones’s fish-scale motifs.

The first floor of the house is clad in clapboards, while the upper floors are clad in shingles, including many bands of fish-scale shingles and otherwise decoratively cut shingles. The chimney is topped by decorative brickwork. The house was built about 1885, on land platted for development in 1855 by Chester Kingsley. The lot was not sold by Kingsley's estate until this house was built, and was one of the last houses built in the neighborhood.

The building is a modest rendering of the Late Victorian style, but was more distinguished than some other low and mid range accommodations in the area. The building is rectangular, approximately 60 feet by 113 feet, two stories high. Only the west facade adds flair to the structure, where six square two-story windows and three porches project out from the wall, each topped by a gable roof with fish scale shinglework. The porches feature spindlework friezes and turned posts.

Number 39 Brougham Place (also known as Whitehead) built in 1907 was the home of A. G. Rymill, and also subsequently his son, long serving Adelaide City Councillor, Sir Arthur Campbell Rymill who was Mayor (1950 – 1954). This grand villa of sandstone with a fish scale tiled tower is typical of the grand residence of the Edwardian period. It is representative of the grand residential style of Brougham Terrace. The Whitehead building has been the principal’s residence for the last 30 years.

Above it is a mansard roof with gabled dormer windows shingled in fish-scale polychrome slate, pierced by two brick chimneys on the eastern side. The tower has a similarly treated pyramidal roof whose flat top is crowned with a finial. The south (front) facade has a small wooden hood on its centrally located main entrance, reached via a small set of stone steps. Ivy climbs up the southeast corner almost to the roofline and on the west side of the main entrance.

Shan Shitu was the general guarding the Linyang Pass. He was called the General with Four Treasures, because he had four unique treasures that no one else had: the Tilu Spear, the Horse of Hulei-Bao, the Yeming Helmet and the Fish Scale Armour. The Tilu Spear was a long spear with a fillister near the spearpoint. When enemies were hit by the Tilu Spear, their blood would come out quickly through the fillister which might lead them to die.

The Isaac Block House is a historic house at 404 East Hamilton Street in Wynne, Arkansas. It is a 1-1/2 story wood frame structure, locally notable for its fine Queen Anne styling. On the exterior this is evident in the wraparound porch, the use of fish-scale wood shingles, a projecting gable with carved decoration, and projecting bays that are similarly decorated. The house was built in Wittsburg in about 1885 by Isaac Block, a merchant son of German Jewish immigrants.

The pilasters are similar, with a stringcourse of dentils at the impost line and hood molds over the arches. These break the main cornice, along with the brick piers at the corners and center bay. The windows themselves have stained glass border panes in the upper section. From large foot scrolls on the arch tops spring the three pilasters that frame the two recessed 16-pane windows in each of the gabled dormers that pierce the roof, finished in fish-scale slate.

The Gwich'in saw Capella and Menkalinan has forming shreets'ą įį vidzee, the right ear of the large circumpolar constellation Yahdii, which covered much of the night sky, and whose orientation facilitated navigation and timekeeping. In Australian Aboriginal mythology for the Boorong people of Victoria, Capella was Purra, the kangaroo, pursued and killed by the nearby Gemini twins, Yurree (Castor) and Wanjel (Pollux). The Wardaman people of northern Australia knew the star as Yagalal, a ceremonial fish scale, related to Guwamba the barramundi (Aldebaran).

Frank and Katharine Coppes House, also known as the Victorian Guest House, is a historic home located at Nappanee, Elkhart County, Indiana. It was built between 1887 and 1893, and is a 2 1/2-story, Queen Anne style frame dwelling. It has a complex hipped and gable roof and features a two-story, round corner tower with a conical roof and second story porch. It has a one-story wraparound porch and sheathed in clapboard and fish scale shingles.

Henry Seawell Brown and Mary Jane English Farmstead, also known as the Brown Family Farm, is a historic home and farm located near Ashford, McDowell County, North Carolina. The farmhouse was built in 1916, and is 1 1/2-story, three bay, frame dwelling with Queen Anne and Colonial Revival style design elements. It has a two-story portico, triangular pedimented front gable, hip- roofed dormers, fish-scale shingles, and one-story wraparound front porch. It has a two-story rear ell.

The Isaac C. Lewis Cottage is located in Branford's Thimble Islands summer resort area, at the south corner of Thimble Island Road and Linden Point Road. It is an architecturally eclectic 2-1/2 story Late Victorian structure, exhibiting a mix of elements drawn from the Second Empire, Gothic Revival, and Stick Style. Its exterior is clad in a combination of finishes, including board-and-batten siding, fish-scale wood shingles, and clapboards. Its dominant feature is a mansard-roofed tower.

High alkalinity of the lake water may also have been the reason for the almost complete lack of fossils in this part of the section. The overlying succession of sandstones, siltstones, stromatolites and emerged horizons reflects the upward shallowing of the formation. Besides extensive sand flats, large playas, several square kilometres in size, must have existed during the final stages of deposition. The playa deposits are represented by shaly sediments with intercalated feldspar-rich layers (), stromatolite horizons () and fish scale bone beds ().

The J.P. Runyan House is a historic house at 1514 South Schiller Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is a 1-1/2 story wood frame structure, with a dormered and flared hip roof and weatherboard siding. The roof extends in front over a full-width porch, with Classical Revival columns supporting and matching pilasters at the corners. The roof dormers have gable roofs, and have paired sash windows, with fish-scale cut wooden shingles in the gables and side walls.

Wisteria Lodge is a historic house in Reading, Massachusetts. The -story Second Empire wood-frame house was built in 1850 by Oscar Foote, a local real estate developer entrepreneur who attempted to market bottled mineral water from nearby springs. The house has a mansard roof with fish scale slate shingles, bracketed eaves, an elaborate porte cochere, and styled window surrounds with triangular pediments. The porches ahd porte cochere are supported by square columns set on paneled piers, with arched molding between.

The gable fields have fish-scale shingle siding; the roof's cornice is decorated with scroll-sawn vergeboards in a trefoil pattern and supporting brackets. On the southeast corner is an engaged square two-stage bell tower. It, too, is sided in clapboard with wide wooden cornerboards above paneled pilasters and a wide wooden frieze. On its first stage, two double paneled doors, the main entrance, are topped with a lancet arched transom with tracery on the south and a single lancet window on the east.

The two-story, timber- framed house was built in 1903 by William James Leslie and his father-in-law, Julius Henry Adams, and is the only historic house remaining in the Sand Tuck- Hickory Springs part of the county. It was designed by Thomas L. Brown in a vernacular late Victorian style, with pilastered corner boards and gable ends decorated with vergeboard and alternating fish-scale and diamond shingles. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 9, 1979.

250px The grounds of the Marland Mansion are currently composed of of gardens, lakes and ancillary buildings spread throughout the estate. The original buildings were designed to complement the main house with rough-hewn stone facades and red clay tile roofs. Lydie's Cottage was originally the chauffeur's quarters with garage space attached for the Marland's carriages and cars. Several architectural elements used in the mansion can be found in the cottage including a wood beam ceiling and a fish-scale stone floor in the entry.

The second- story walls and third-story gables are faced with fish-scale tile shingles. The street (south) facade is asymmetrical and features a single, great gable that continues down to join the porch roof, a two-story half-turret, a small second-story balcony, and five first-story windows with stained-glass upper panes that light the circulation desk.These stained-glass windows and those in the Great Hall were manufactured by Maitland, Armstrong & Company of New York City. The Trimble-McCrary House is a historic house at 516 Jefferson Street in Lonoke, Arkansas. It is a two-story wood frame structure, with a truncated hip roof, an exterior of clapboards and wooden shingles, and a brick foundation. It has Folk Victorian styling, including a two-story spindlework porch, and fish-scale shingling on parts of its walls. The house was built about 1885 for Judge Jacob Chapline, a lawyer who was influential in the establishment of Lonoke County, and who served in the state legislature.

The 1-1/2 story timber-framed house was built around 1909 by a Mr. Williams, and was purchased by Dr. James David Watts in 1918, when he moved to the area. It has a hip roof, with cross-gable dormers on the sides and rear, and a large projecting gable-end dormer centered on the front facade. This dormer features a Palladian window, with the surrounding walls covered in diamond-cut and fish-scale shingles. The gable itself is decorated with jigsaw-cut boards.

Other exterior elements typical to the Italian Renaissance Revival style of architecture include classical features such as pediments, triglyphs, and dentils, which are interspersed with foliated and floral designs. A unique detail is the arch keystones that have carved fish-scale patterns. Perhaps the most striking exterior features of the building are the groupings of four colossal statues placed at each of the building's corners. These identical copper and bronze sculptures are called History, Agriculture, Industry, and Arts, but are popularly known as The Ladies.

Formed in 2011 when Salter and Dalton joined Chapman's existing solo project The Mighty Northumberland, the band released its debut album Whine of the Mystic independently in 2014. The album was rereleased in 2015 on You've Changed Records in Canada and Paradise of Bachelors in the United States. The band's second album, Thought Rock Fish Scale, with songs delivered in a slow, psychedelic and meditative style,"Nap Eyes I'm Bad Now". Exclaim!, Cole Firth, Mar 06, 2018 was released in 2016 on both labels.

Perhaps the masterpiece of the series, the Salamanca crossing tower has two stories of windows in its drum. Its outer stone fish-scale roof lined with gothic crockets is a separate corbelled layer with only eight lobes, which applies weight to the haunches of the sixteen-sided inner dome. A later related dome is that over the chapter house of the Old Cathedral of Plasencia. The dome of the in Segovia is an octagonal crossed-arch dome on squinches that may have been made with concrete around the middle of the 12th century.

The Leggett House in Merced, California, also known as Queen Anne Inn, is a historic house located at 352 W. 22nd St. in Merced, California. The house was built in the Queen Anne style of Victorian architecture. Its most prominent feature is the Witch's Cap on its roof, a cone-shaped turret with eight scalloped hips. The home's design also includes a steep shingle roof, gables on the porch and sides of the house, and horizontal shiplap and fish scale shingle siding on its first and second floors respectively.

The house at 20 Yale Avenue, for instance, follows a somewhat typical Italianate L-shaped plan, but its porch is more elaborately decorated with what might be considered Queen Anne features. The house at 23 Yale Avenue, built c. 1863, marks a shift from the Italianate to the Second Empire with the addition of a mansard-style roof with fish scale shingles. 24 Yale Avenue is one of t Wakefield's few surviving Stick style houses, and 22 Yale Avenue is an early and modest example of the Colonial Revival.

Thr house is a significant example of the Queen Anne style with elements taken from the Classical Revival style. Queen Anne details include decorative chimneys, complexity of roof shapes such as conical turrets and hipped roof dormers, finials, and fish-scale shingled gable ends. The house is a relatively simple expression of the style and shows signs of transition into the Classical Revival style in its symmetrical facade, Ionic columns, Doric details, and regular footprint. A notable feature is the Porte- cochere which is fairly rare in Grand Forks.

The Christian-Ellis House is a transitional design, containing both Queen Anne and Georgian Revival elements. It is a wood-frame house clad in clapboard, with fish-scale shingling in the gable ends. Queen Anne elements of the design include an asymmetrical floorplan, windows of different styles, a broad wrap-around porch, and an irregular roofline with two gable ends located above the front facade. Georgian Revival features include Doric columns on the porch, paired rounded arch windows on the second story level, and small brackets at the corniceline.

As Hongwu came from a peasant family, he was aware of how peasants used to suffer under the oppression of the scholar-bureaucrats, and the wealthy. Many of the latter, relying on their connections with government officials, encroached unscrupulously on peasants' lands and bribed the officials to transfer the burden of taxation to the poor. To prevent such abuse, he instituted two systems: Yellow Records and Fish Scale Records. They served both to secure the government's income from land taxes and to affirm that peasants would not lose their lands.

The Colin McCormick House is a two-story brick High Victorian Gothic home with a gable and hipped roof, and is one of the most elegant residences in Owosso. It is constructed of a polychrome palette, with a pink, slate, blue, and creme dressed fieldstone foundation, red brick walls, yellow brick bandcourses, and grey, red, blue, and green slate roof. The house has a Gothic arch window in the gable end, bargeboards with decorative carving, and dormers containing stained glass windows and fish-scale shingling. The original porch has Eastlake-inspired detailing.

The mosque after receiving its first front gallery and fish-scale patterned fence. The Grand Mosque of Bandung, previously the Great Mosque of Bandung, was first constructed in 1812. The first building was a humble wooden structure on a raised platform and covered in bamboo weave wall and multi-tiered thatched roof. A large pool in the mosque complex provided water for the ablution ritual before performing prayer. In 1826, the mosque was gradually renovated, the roof was refurbished and the bamboo weave wall was replaced with sturdier wood.

It is topped by a gabled roof shingled in fish- scale slate. A tower with an octagonal peaked roof and finial rises from the south end, and a brick chimney from the north (the tower has a small brick chimney as well). Most of the house is sided in clapboard, except for the gable of a projecting extension on the south end of the west (front) facade, done in cedar shake and the front and side, shingled in asbestos. The front facade has a porch, with a shallow pitched hipped roof supported by turned columns running all the way to the addition.

Watson Academy is located in geographically central Epping but north of the town center, on the north side of Academy Street between Prescott Road and Main Street. The building is basically rectangular in form, with symmetrical single-story wings extending the front facade, and is finished in a combination of wooden clapboards and fish-scale shingles. It has a variety of gables and window sizes and shapes, typical of the Queen Anne period, as well as Stick style applied woodwork. It was originally adorned with decoratively corbelled brick chimneys and a conical tower; these features have been removed.

Jurchen man on a Ming woodblock print dated 1609. The original caption explained that the Jurchens lived near the Changbai Mountains and wore "deerskin shoes and fish-scale clothing.". In the 1580s, when China was ruled by the Ming dynasty (1368–1644), a number of Jurchen tribes lived northeast of Ming territory in the region that is now known as China's Northeast, or "Manchuria".. In a series of campaigns from the 1580s to the 1610s, Nurhaci (1559–1626), the leader of the Jianzhou Jurchens, unified most Jurchen tribes under his rule. (campaigns of Jurchen unification) and 40 (seizing of patents).

Early illustration of a Portuguese dogfish. The first scientific description of the Portuguese dogfish was published by Portuguese zoologists José Vicente Barbosa du Bocage and Félix António de Brito Capello, in an 1864 issue of Proceedings of the General Meetings for Scientific Business of the Zoological Society of London. They created the new genus Centroscymnus for this shark, and gave it the specific epithet coelolepis, derived from the Greek ' ("hollow") and lepis ("fish scale") and referring to the structure of the dermal denticles. The type specimen, caught off Portugal, has since been destroyed in a fire.

The Richardson-Turner House is a historic house at 1469 Arkansas Highway 1 in Lexa, Arkansas. It is a 1-1/2 story wood frame structure, built in 1894 by Dr. Willis Moss Richardson. It is one of the most elaborate rural Queen Anne structures in Phillips County, with asymmetric massing, decorative brackets in the eaves, fish-scale shingles on the exterior, and an elaborate porch with a beaded spindlework balustrade and turned columns. The house originally had a tower, but this was removed in the 1930s, and the attic space was enlarged for living space in the 1940s.

The Laurel Railroad Station was originally constructed in 1884 for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad along the railroad's Washington Branch, about halfway between Baltimore and Washington, DC. The architect was E. Francis Baldwin. The structure is constructed of brick, and is one and a half stories, modified rectangle in form with overhanging gabled and hipped roof sections with brackets and terra cotta cresting, and an interior chimney. There is a louvered lunette in one gable, stick work in another, and fish-scale shingling under truncated hipped section; shed shelter, segmental arched openings. It is Queen Anne in style.

The Allanton Inn forms the southern end of the eastern terrace, formerly two cottages joined in the 1830s. It is joined to the Old Fire Station (originally a stable and hayloft for the Inn). The village also contains several other buildings relating to the Blackadder Estate: the Smiddy House, the two entrance lodges – Lydd Cottage and Westside Cottage (south west), and the Carter's House (east terrace). Several houses in Allanton and on the Blackadder Estate use a common motif in their architecture: Tudor Style hood moulds, and fish scale bands of green, red and grey roof slating.

Its growing base is made of cell- free bone, which sometimes developed anchorage structures to fix it in the side of the fish. Beyond that, there appear to be five types of bone-growth, which may represent five natural groupings within the thelodonts – or a spectrum ranging between the end members, meta- (or ortho-) dentine and mesodentine tissues. Each of the five scale morphs appears to resemble the scales of more derived groupings of fish, suggesting that thelodont groups may have been stem groups to succeeding clades of fish. Scale morphology, alone, has limited value for distinguishing thelodont species.

The Malvern Town Hall is a large and imposing Late Victorian Italianate style building with a symmetrical facade to Glenferrie Road and projecting two storey portico. The two tower roofs are in the French Second Empire style with fish scale slates, circular vents, elaborate leadwork and cast iron walks. A terrazzo floor, marble walls and central marble staircase, feature in the foyer which leads to the upper cocktail lounge which has a similar elaborate, coffered ceiling. Also of interest in the foyer is the War Memorial designed by Paul Montford and the statue of Psyche and Cupid.

The dome is composed of 12,000 fish-scale tiles - in the original version of the 1950s, a Dutch company created a special technology, baking the clay tiles three times, twice with different glazes, and lastly with a 15% gold solution. After over 50 years of exposure the old tiles were badly broken and damaged, and the new tiles, first uncovered in 2011, are of more than 120 different shapes and sizes, and were made in Portugal by employing an innovative process involving porcelain being repeatedly fire-glazed, covered in gold solution, and sealed with an extremely durable coating.

The typical Tant sari is characterised by a thick border and a decorative pallav, woven using a variety of floral, paisley and other artistic motifs. Some of the popular traditional motifs are: bhomra (bumble bee), tabij (amulet), rajmahal (royal palace), ardha-chandra (half moon), chandmala (garland of moons), ansh (fish scale), hathi (elephant), nilambari (blue sky), ratan chokh (gem-eyed), benki (spiral), tara (star), kalka (paisley) and phool (flower). Printed, hand-painted and embroidered patterns are also used to get a larger variety of designs. Different motifs including floral element, solar element and recently even modern art are depicted in this sari.

The John Buckingham House stands in a densely built residential area northwest of the center of Newton Corner, on the north side of Waban Street opposite Hovey Street. Its lot is fronted by a low stone retaining wall, which continues to a posted drive on the adjacent property, where the house's original carriage house is located. The house is a 2-1/2 story wood frame structure, with a bell-cast mansard roof with fish-scale slate shingles and segmented-arch dormers. The cornice is denticulated, and there are single-story projecting bay windows on both sides, topped by bracketed roofs.

The Charles Dowler House is an historic house at 581 Smith Street in Providence, Rhode Island. It is a 1-1/2 story mansard-roofed wood frame structure, built in 1872 by Charles Parker Dowler, a local artist. The building typifies a cottage ornée, or decorated cottage, a building style popular in the 1860s and 1870s. It is an elaborately decorated Second Empire structure, with an asymmetrical T layout, detailed decoration in the dormers which pierce the fish-scale-shingled mansard roof, and a porch in the crook of the T which is supported by Corinthian columns.

The exterior of the main block is finished in wooden clapboards on the first floor, and with fish-scale shingles above, while the ell is finished in clapboards. The main entrance is at the center of the three-bay facade, flanked by windows that have modest projecting cornices. Similar windows are on the second floor, and there is in the gable end a double window topped by a gabled cornice. The interior of the hall is divided into function spaces, with a dining room and kitchen on the ground floor, and an auditorium with stage on the second floor.

Construction of the White House began with the laying of the cornerstone on October 13, 1792, although there was no formal ceremony. The main residence, as well as foundations of the house, were built largely by enslaved and free African-American laborers, as well as employed Europeans. Much of the other work on the house was performed by immigrants, many not yet with citizenship. The sandstone walls were erected by Scottish immigrants, employed by Hoban, as were the high-relief rose and garland decorations above the north entrance and the "fish scale" pattern beneath the pediments of the window hoods.

In 1850, with the construction of the Grote Postweg (now Jalan Asia Afrika), the mosque was renovated and expanded; the roof was replaced with clay tiles, and the wall was replaced with solid bricks. The pyramidal multi- tiered roof gave the mosque a nickname bale nyungcung (Sundanese "spiky pavilion"). In 1875, the mosque base was replaced with solid stone, and the perimeter of the mosque complex was enclosed with a new brick wall with fish- scale pattern; a traditional pattern associated with Bandung which was also found in the walls surrounding the Pendopo complex of Bandung.

The tower's pitched roof has sheet metal tiles in a fish-scale pattern, crowned by a pressed metal cornice, featuring decorative mouldings and lions heads. There is also a small central pediment motif above the eaves of the south face. It is this tower which imparts to the building its unusual Victorian Second Empire style. Of almost equal interest is the treatment of the remainder of this front, which includes fine panelled and patterned boarding, notched and bracketed barge boards, eaves soffits, scalloped friezes and a radiating design over the semicircular windows, decorated window lintels and a prominent "keystone", all done in cut and fretted timber.

The natural vegetation is prairie grass in the western plains and mixed conifer and broad-leaved deciduous forest in the eastern mountainous area. The vegetation in the eastern mountains includes tree species such as the Japanese red pine, Manchurian ash, fish-scale pine, larch, birch, oak, willow, elm, and the Manchurian walnut. In the deep mountain interior, virgin forest has been preserved. Tree types are distributed in distinct belts depending mainly on elevation: between is the deciduous broad-leaved belt, mainly mountain willows and oaks; a mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forest is found between ; between there is coniferous forest; and mountain birch is found from .

Leanbow then leapt onto Black Lance's chariot and used his sword to smash one of its wheels, causing the chariot to crash and break and flinging Black Lance away. Black Lance then battled Leanbow as the Centaurus Wolf Megazord, during this time Necrolai planted Sculpin's fish scale on one of the wolf figureheads on his right shoulder. Leanbow then overpowered Black Lance and used a teleportation spell to drag Black Lance down into the Underworld, where the Knight-like terror vowed that he would get his revenge on Leanbow. In "Light Source," he expressed concern about Hekatoid being sent to fight since he was out of shape.

The House at 314 W. King Street was a two-story clapboard Queen Anne-style structure. It had asymmetrical massing and fenestration, a varied roofline, and a broad porch typical of the Queen Anne style. The house had a wide variety of surfaces used on the facades, including tongue-and-groove on the entire base of the wood superstructure, clapboard on most of the facades, fish-scale shingling on the gables, vertical panelling on the underside of the overhanging eaves, and diamond carved wood lintels over the windows. On the front facade, there was a tri-sided bay, with a stained glass center window surrounded by decorative spandrels.

The east elevation of the main range is partially obscured by the addition of Mansion Cottage at the north end and the old dairy at the south end. The visible part of the main range comprises a narrow expanse of tile-hanging at first floor level between the cottage extension and the short return to the brickwork and quoins of the principal elevation. The gable is a projecting one extending further east than the wall below and the finish is also one of tile-hanging (matching that of the adjacent cottage). The tiles are clay and are decorative fish-scale type of probable 19th century origin.

The attic half-story has two sash windows, and there is Stick style woodwork at the peak of the gable. Photos from a 1980 survey show fish-scale shingles and applied woodwork on the gable wall around and above the attic windows; these features have been removed or covered over. The house was built sometime in the 1880s as a speculative venture by Emily Ruggles, a prominent local businesswoman who operated a dry goods store and bought land on Beach Street for development in 1875. This house and the one adjacent were the first houses she had built, and appear to have been based on widely published architectural patterns.

The S.E. Brackett House stands in a residential part of Somerville's Prospect Hill neighborhood, west of Prospect Hill Park on the north side of Columbus Avenue. It is a 2-1/2 story wood-frame structure, with a mansard roof and clapboarded exterior. It is roughly square in shape, with a central projecting section on the front facade that rises a full three stories and is topped by a mansard-style fourth floor. The steep roof sections of the main roof and tower are finished in a combination of rectangular and fish-scale slate shingles, and are pierced by gabled window dormers with projecting bracketed eaves.

During the 20th century, theory speculated that some of the people of Liqian may be descended from Ancient Romans. In the 1940s, Homer H. Dubs, a professor of Chinese history at the University of Oxford, suggested that the people of Liqian were descended from Roman legionaries taken prisoner at the Battle of Carrhae. These prisoners, Dubs proposed, were resettled by the victorious Parthians on their eastern border and may have fought as mercenaries at the Battle of Zhizhi, between the Chinese and the Xiongnu in 36 ;BC. Chinese chroniclers mention the use of a "fish-scale formation" of soldiers, which Dubs believed referred to the testudo formation – a Roman phalanx surrounded by shields on all sides.

In a few species such as Serrasalmus serrulatus, the dietary split may be more equal, but this is less certain as based on smaller samples: Among 24 S. serrulatus from flooded forests of Ji-Paraná (Machado) River, there were several with fish remains in their stomachs, but half contained masticated seeds and in most of these this was the dominant item. Piranhas will often scavenge, and some species such as Serrasalmus elongatus are specialized scale-eaters, feeding primarily on scales and fins of other fish. Scale- and fin-eating is more widespread among juvenile and sub-adult piranhas. Piranhas lay their eggs in pits dug during the breeding season and swim around to protect them.

In 2014, Smith & Wesson introduced the M&P; Bodyguard 380 to replace the Bodyguard 380. The M&P; Bodyguard is functionally identical to its predecessor but is now considered a part of the Smith & Wesson M&P; line of pistols. The first M&P; branded Bodyguard removes the integral laser sight of the previous pistol and brings the aesthetics in line with the rest of the M&P; product line, specifically the "fish scale" slide grip and more aggressive texture on the hand grip. A second version of the M&P; Bodyguard reintroduced a model with integrated laser, but instead of Insight, the laser supplier is Crimson Trace and the laser button is now red instead of gray and also incorporates the updated slide and hand grips.

Against the advice provided by Sakuma Nobumori and Takigawa Kazumasu, who had been sent by Nobunaga, and by his own generals, Matsudaira Ietada (Fukōzu), Honda Tadakatsu, Sakai Tadatsugu, and Ishikawa Kazumasa, Ieyasu refused to allow the Takeda to pass through his territory unhindered, and drew up his forces on a high plain called Mikatagahara, at the time located just north of Hamamatsu. According to the Kōyō Gunkan, the contemporary Takeda military history, Shingen outnumbered Ieyasu three-to-one, and organized his men in the gyorin (魚鱗, fish-scale) formation, enticing his opponent to attack. Opposing him, Ieyasu had gathered his available forces and arrayed them in a line. Oyamada Nobushige was in Shingen's vanguard, followed by Naitō Masatoyo and Yamagata Masakage.

The house is on Gough Street, facing Lafayette Park. Designed by Walter J. Mathews, a prominent Bay Area architect, it is unusual in San Francisco in being purely Queen Anne in style. It is three stories tall, with a steeply pitched gable roof and two corner turrets with conical roofs; the turrets and the first floor have fish-scale shingles, while the remainder of the house is clad in horizontal siding. The main facade, facing the park, is decorated with carved and plaster areas that have been compared to "patterns appliqued on a Victorian sampler": the pediment under the gable is richly carved, two sunbursts flank a pair of windows on the third floor, and below an arched window porch on the second floor is a panel with a grinning mythological beast.

Its dome actually consists of 2 domes: an outer dome and an inner dome which are separated by a space for lighting fixtures and maintenance. The tower has numerous put-log holes, and is supported on four massive columns and surmounted by a nineteenth century low octagonal broached short slated recessed slated spire with fish-scale slates and weathercock. There are nineteenth century louvred paired cusped bell- lights and a corbelled embattled parapet. The tower contains a fine peal of bells, with the oldest of the original set of six being cast in 1749 by Rudhall bell foundry.The Rudhall family’s bell foundry in Gloucester was established in the later 17th century by Abraham Rudhall. His first known bells were a ring of five supplied to St. Nicholas’s church in Oddington in 1684 and one of them still remains in the church’s tower and is rung regularly; Mary Bliss, "The Last Years of John Rudhall, Bellfounder of Gloucester, 1828–35" (2003) 121 Transactions of the Bristol and Gloucestershire Archaeological Society 11–22, at 11.

After a Roman army under the command of Marcus Licinius Crassus decisively lost the battle of Carrhae in 54 BC, an estimated 10,000 Roman prisoners were dispatched by the Parthians to Margiana to man the frontier. Some time later the nomadic Xiongnu chief Zhizhi established a state further east in the Talas valley, near modern-day Taraz. Dubs points to a Chinese account by Ban Gu of about "a hundred men" under the command of Zhizhi who fought in a so-called "fish-scale formation" to defend Zhizhi's wooden-palisade fortress against Han forces, in the Battle of Zhizhi in 36 BC. He claimed that this might have been the Roman testudo formation and that these men, who were captured by the Chinese, founded the village of Liqian (Li-chien, possibly from "legio") in Yongchang County. There have been attempts to promote the Sino-Roman connection for tourism, but Dubs' synthesis of Roman and Chinese sources has not found acceptance among historians, on the grounds that it is highly speculative and reaches too many conclusions without sufficient hard evidence.

This Amharic dialect is described by Marcel Cohen (1939) as featuring a fair number of words derived from Amharic roots but twisted in sound or meaning in order to confuse outsiders, making it a sort of argot; in addition to these, it had a small number of Cushitic loanwords not found in standard Amharic, and a large number of Arabic loanwords mainly related to Islam. Of the substantial wordlist collected by Griaule, Cohen only considered six terms to be etymologically obscure: šəlkərít "fish-scale", qəntat "wing", čəgəmbit "mosquito", annessa "shoulder", ənkies "hippopotamus thigh", wazəməs "hippopotamus spine." By 1965, the visiting anthropologist Frederick Gamst found "no surviving native words, not even relating to their hunting and fishing work tasks." (Gamst 1965.) The paucity of the data available has not prevented speculation on the classification of their original language; Cohen suggested that it might have been either an Agaw language or a non-Amharic Semitic language, while Dimmendaal (1989) says it "probably belonged to Cushitic" (as does Agaw), and Gamst (1965) says "...it can be assumed that if the Wäyto did not speak Amharic 200 years ago, their language must have been Agäw..."
