Mounties also finished the season with all 3 grades making the grand final.

Her effort in the 100 metre freestyle saw her finish first in the B Final in a time of 56.48 seconds. In the 200 metre freestyle, Natalia achieved her best individual result of the meet, finishing fifth in the Championship Final in 1 minute 59.24 seconds.

Ayarna began his career with the Desisderoes Babies in Ghana and in 2001 was selected to play for the Liberty Babies. In February 2001 he began attending the Presbyterian Secondary School where he also played soccer. The Rocky Mountain Rollergirls handed the Oly Rollers their first ever defeat to finish first in the 2010 Western Regional Tournament. Just over a month later, Rocky Mountain faced Oly again in a rematch for the 2010 WFTDA Championships. In one of the most intense games in WFTDA history, Rocky Mountain beat Oly again by a score of 147-146 to claim their first WFTDA Championship.

On January 10, 2007, the Atlanta Falcons signed Grimes to a reserve/futures contract and immediately allocated him to play overseas in NFL Europa. Grimes was initially acquired by the Amsterdam Admirals before becoming a part of the Rhein Fire and then joined the Hamburg Sea Devils. The Listowel Cyclones began the Sutherland Cup semi-finals as the 1st ranked team and faced the Western Conference champions London Nationals. On Friday April 21, 2017, the London Nationals defeated the Listowel Cyclones 3–2 in game 5 in a heart breaking overtime win, defeating the Cyclones 4–1 in the series. Although it wasn't the ideal result of the season there is a lot to be proud of including a midwestern conference 1st place finish (first in team history), a Cherrey cup championship (only 2nd championship in 37 years) and several players from this years team can return next year.

On December 13, 2012, former UConn, East Carolina and South Florida head coach Skip Holtz, son of legendary coach Lou Holtz, accepted an offer to become the head coach for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Holtz's first season, the 2013 campaign, was a rebuilding year as the Bulldogs finished 4–8. However, 2014 would see a big improvement. Holtz's Bulldogs went on to finish first in C-USA West at 9–5 with a 35–18 win over Illinois in the Heart Of Dallas Bowl. The first-ever women’s rowing coach at Nova Southeastern University, John Gartin is entering his fourth season at the helm, after guiding the Sharks to its best finish in 2005–06. Under Gartin’s watchful eye, the Sharks set new program and national records becoming the only crew ever to reach the NCAA Division II Women’s Rowing National Championships in their first three seasons of competition, and then win two national championships. As a team, NSU became the first SSC institution to ever finish first in the nation in 2005. The Sharks started the 2006 spring season with a bang, taking home the Lyden Cup at the Rollins Invitational and then winning the Rollins Spring Break races two weeks later.

Guo and Gong's coach Daniel Morelon maintains that the pair were "robbed" of the gold medal, and described it as an "injustice". He complained that the judges refused to provide a "video footage of the race on slow motion", and only provided a "vague explanation" for the infringement they had allegedly committed. However, the British cycling champions Victoria Pendleton and Jessica Varnish, who were also disqualified for a similar reason earlier on in the competition, accepted the judges decision and chose not to claim that they were unfairly robbed of a medal.

Teague then paid $45,000 to supplement Wiggle It Jiggleit into the 70th Little Brown Jug, the most prestigious race for three-year-old pacers. The Little Brown Jug is the third leg of the Pacing Triple Crown and is a throwback to harness racing's past in that a horse must finish first in two races (usually an elimination heat and the second heat) on the same day to be declared the winner. On September 25 at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, Wiggle It Jiggleit won his elimination heat in a close fought battle with Artspeak in 1:, setting a track record.

At a 2009 transtasman swimming meet, Ashwood beat Kiwi Phoebe Williams to finish first in the 800-metre freestyle event. At the 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Festival, she lost to Kelly Marquenie in the women's 800-metre freestyle event. She finished second in the women's 400-metre freestyle event. At the 2011 Queensland State Championships, she came in second in the women's 800-metre freestyle event, finishing seven seconds behind the winner. At the 2011 National Championships, with a time of 16:14.47, she finished second in the 1500-metre freestyle which secured her a spot on the national team going to the World Championships.

In his August 22 comeback he finished third to winner Irish Warrior in the Harry F. Brubaker Handicap at Del Mar Racetrack. Johar then ran second to Storming Home in the September 28 Clement L. Hirsch Memorial Turf Championship before winning the most important race of his career, the October 25 Breeders' Cup Turf, held that year at Santa Anita Park. Johar, last until the field moved through the backstretch, made a powerful late run down the middle of the homestretch to finish first in a dead-heat with High Chaparral and barely a nose ahead of third-place finisher Falbrav. As co-winner of the first dead-heat in Breeders' Cup history, Johar defeated other top runners such as The Tin Man (4th), and the betting favorite, Storming Home (7th).

On May 2, 2003, during a practice session at Richmond International Raceway for the Pontiac Excitement 400, Nadeau was leading the practice session when he suddenly swerved to avoid a slowing car, spun in turn one and hit the wall, driver's side first, at high speed.

The Cincinnati Reds' 1981 season consisted of the Reds finishing with an overall record of 66-42 the National League West, giving them the best won/loss record. However, due to a split-season format, caused by a mid-season players' strike, they failed to make the MLB playoffs that year because they did not finish first in either half of the season. The Reds finished the first half of the season in second place with a record of 35-21, just one-half game behind the eventual World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers, and one-and-a-half games behind the Houston Astros in the second half, in which the Reds were 31-21, good for second place, again. The Reds were managed by John McNamara and played their home games at Riverfront Stadium.

Andrew Thomas Carroll (born 6 January 1989) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for club Newcastle United. He has played in the Premier League and English Football League for Newcastle United, Preston North End, Liverpool, West Ham United and has 9 caps for the England national team. Carroll began his professional career with Newcastle United in 2006, before spending a brief period on loan with Preston North End, during which time he scored his first league goal. He established himself as a regular in the Newcastle first team by 2008, and following Newcastle's relegation from the Premier League to the Championship in 2009, scored 17 goals in 39 appearances to help Newcastle finish first in the league, earning immediate promotion back to the Premier League in the process.

Nevertheless, they managed to finish in first place in a weak East Division with an 8–9–1 record, becoming the first CFL team to finish first in their division with a losing record. In another CFL first, the Redblacks faced the defending champion Edmonton Eskimos (who, as a crossover team, had defeated the Hamilton Tiger- Cats in the Eastern Semi-Final) in the first-ever Grey Cup rematch to take place in a division final. Despite being underdogs to the 10–8 Eskimos in the Eastern Final, the Redblacks avenged their 2015 Grey Cup loss with a 35–23 win over Edmonton to advance to their second consecutive championship game.

After 33 years in 1972, a BMW entered the competition for the first time by Schnitzer Motorsport with the BMW 2800CS. In the following years, BMW became a common contender in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, represented by private teams racing BMW race cars in the competition from 1972 till 1989, and from 1993 till 2000 and by teams using BMW engines, most successful the McLaren F1 GTR who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995 with a BMW S70 6.1L V12 engine. In 2012–13, the Coyotes finished third in the Okanagan Division, with a record of 28–17–0–7, losing in the third round, the Conference finals, to the North Okanagan Knights. The following season the Coyotes finished third again, with a record of 29–22–0–1, and made it to the Conference final again, losing to the Kamloops Storm. In 2014–15, the Coyotes would finish first in the Okanagan Division for the first time in three years, and defeated Princeton and Summerland in the playoffs, before falling again to the Storm. In 2015–16, the Coyotes won the league's regular season title again, with a record of 41–9–1–1, and defeated the North Okanagan Knights in the first round. In 2016–17, the Coyotes won their division, and defeated the Knights again in the first round.

The field split into two groups across the wide course and although Dutch Art got the better of Duke of Marmalade to finish first in the group racing on the far side (the right-hand side from the jockeys' viewpoint) he was beaten into third behind Cockney Rebel and Vital Equine who raced up the stands side. In the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot he defeated Cockney Rebel but finished only fourth behind Excellent Art, Duke of Marmalade and Astronomer Royal. Dutch Art returned to sprint distances for his three remaining races starting with the July Cup in which he was matched against older horses for the first time. After being blocked in his run at half way he finished strongly to take second, half a length behind Sakhee's Secret with Red Clubs and Marchand d'Or in third and fourth.

Having led Canada to third and fifth places at the Junior Fed Cup in 2015 and 2016 respectively, Andreescu made her senior Fed Cup debut in 2017 when Canada was in the third-tier Americas Zone Group I. In this group, they needed to finish first in their round robin pool, win a tie against the other round robin pool winner, and then win another tie in the play-off round to get promoted to the second tier the following year. Canada achieved all three of those objectives in 2017. They first swept their round robin pool of Paraguay, Bolivia, and Venezuela, with Andreescu winning all five of her rubbers without dropping a set. Canada then defeated Chile, the winners of the other round robin pool, as Katherine Sebov and Andreescu won the two singles rubbers to clinch the tie.

The Penguins were founded in 2000, but East Hants has a history that dates back decades in junior hockey. In 2007, the Penguins won their first league title and went on to the Don Johnson Cup Maritime Junior B Championships. They defeated the host Cumberland County Blues 7–2, Central West Junior Hockey League's Central Jr. Cataracts 11–2, New Brunswick's Madawaska 506 who played in Quebec all season 12–4, and the Island Junior Hockey League's Kensington Vipers 6–5 in overtime to finish first in the tournament round robin with a 4–0–0 record. In the semi-final, the Penguins again crushed Central 8–3 and in the final they defeated Cumberland County 2–0 to win their first and only Don Johnson Cup. In 2011–12, the Penguins finished second place in the regular season with a 24–8–2 record.

In 2016, the Seminoles won 10 games for the fifth straight season and appeared in the Orange Bowl, a fifth consecutive appearance in a major bowl game. Running back Dalvin Cook, defensive end DeMarcus Walker, offensive tackle Roderick Johnson and cornerback Marquez White went on to be selected in the NFL Draft. Prior to the start of the season, Deondre Francois, Jacques Patrick, Cam Akers, Nyqwan Murray, Landon Dickerson, and Cole Minshew were named preseason All-ACC offensive selections while Derwin James, Tarvarus McFadden, Derrick Nnadi, Josh Sweat, Brian Burns, and Matthew Thomas were named preseason All-ACC defensive selections. In the pre-season media poll, Florida State was picked to finish first in the ACC Atlantic and win the conference title and Francois was picked as runner-up for ACC Player of the Year while Alec Eberle, McFadden, and James were named to the pre-season All-ACC team.

The Group N Proton Satria Neo rally cars will be based on stock standard road-registered 1600cc showroom models acquired by CUSCO, homologated according to FIA regulations for competition use, and retrofitted with CUSCO-developed aftermarket performance and race components. With the Satria Neo, CUSCO is essentially Proton's customer – they buy the body shells, equip them with CUSCO-developed race components, and then sell the completed Group N rally-going Neos to customers who will compete in Junior Rally Championships in Japan and Asia Pacific. Veteran Malaysian rally driver, Karamjit Singh piloted a CUSCO-tuned Proton Satria Neo 2WD in which he crossed the line to finish first in the overall 2011 APRC 2WD category on May 2011 Rally of Queensland as well as first in the N2 category. Three Satria Neos were fielded in the 2011 Japan Rally Championship in JN-3, one unit for the CUSCO Team and two for the CUSCO Junior Rally Team respectively.

The club first began playing in 1928 as a section of the gymnastics club Emder Turnverein, which was founded in 1861. An independent football club was formed on 24 March 1946 out of the membership of this predecessor side and several other local associations which had been dissolved after World War II. In 1949, the club was promoted to the Amateuroberliga Niedersachsen-West, a second-division league at the time. They went on to finish first in the league at the end of the 1950–51 season and advanced therewith to the promotion play-offs for at the time first-division Oberliga Nord, but did not manage to get promoted. They were only a mediocre team in the Amateuroberliga Niedersachsen-West in the remainder of the decade and eventually slipped down to the fourth-division Verbandsliga Niedersachen- Nord in 1964. They returned to the third-division Amateurliga Niedersachsen in 1970, but were relegated back to the fourth division after three seasons.

They were also the first Ottawa-based CFL team to finish first in East Division since the 1978 Rough Riders and the first Ottawa-based team ever to finish with at least 12 regular season wins. The Redblacks posted the fifth best winning percentage posted by a second year expansion team in any established North American professional sports league after the 1951 Cleveland Browns, the 1995 Baltimore Stallions, the 1996 Carolina Panthers and the 1997 Montreal Alouettes – although of those four teams, only the Stallions and Panthers were expansion teams in the same sense as the Redblacks and only the Panthers had a losing record in their inaugural season. On November 22, 2015, the Redblacks defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 35–28 in the Eastern Final to advance to their first Grey Cup game, which they lost 26–20 to the Edmonton Eskimos. It was the first time that an Ottawa CFL team advanced to the Grey Cup game since the 1981 Ottawa Rough Riders.

On May 29, the Yankees were tied for last place and 14.5 games back of the Boston Red Sox while the Mets were in first place ahead of the Atlanta Braves by four games, with the lead being as high as seven in mid-September. A late season meltdown led to the Mets being eliminated from playoff contention, losing the NL East title to the Philadelphia Phillies on the last day of the season. On the other hand, the Yankees, though unable to finish first in the AL East for the first time since 1997, rebounded from their losing ways and clinched their 13th consecutive playoff berth. In an article written in the New York Daily News on March 25, 2008, Alex Rodriguez said how he regretted signing with the Texas Rangers (the team the Yankees acquired him from) in the first place and wished he had signed with the Mets rather than Texas.

All this led to a difficult season, despite that quick start, one that included two eight-game losing streaks (the longest such streaks for the franchise since 1988) and a seven-game losing streak, losing months in June, August and September, and an 83-78 record, the worst for the Cardinals since the 1999 team finished 75-86. However, that record was still good enough to finish first in a weak National League Central. On the season's final day, the Cardinals made the playoffs for the sixth time in the last seven seasons, edging the second-place Houston Astros by a game and a half. Once the playoffs began, the lightly regarded Cardinals surprised baseball fans everywhere by beating the San Diego Padres in the four-game Division Series, beating the New York Mets in the seven-game NLCS, and beating the Detroit Tigers in the 2006 World Series four games to one, winning the tenth, and probably most unlikely, World Series championship in franchise history.

The Seminoles qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the thirty-ninth consecutive year, where they won the Tallahassee Regional but were eliminated by Florida in the Gainesville Super Regional. Prior to the start of the season, Florida State was picked to finish first in the Atlantic Division as well as the ACC, while shortstop Taylor Walls, catcher Cal Raleigh, infielder Dylan Busby and outfielder Jackson Lueck were named preseason All-American players. Despite failing to finish with a winning record in ACC play for the first time, the Seminoles went on to win the ACC Tournament to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament as the twelfth overall seed. Eventually advancing to the Super Regionals, Florida State went on to become just the 21st team to ever lose their first game and come back to win four straight to take the regional, going on to make their first appearance at the College World Series in five years.

He entered training camp competing with Morgan Moses for the starting right tackle position but was moved to right guard prior to the beginning of the regular season. Since he was able to handle bull rushes well, he was thought to better suit the right guard position and be responsible for a smaller area where his power would be more useful. Offensive line coach Bill Callahan named him the Redskin's starting right guard to begin the season, after winning the job over Spencer Long in the preseason. Scherff made his professional debut in the Redskins' season-opening 17-10 loss to the Miami Dolphins. He started all 16 regular season games, played 752 snaps, and helped the Redskins finish first in the NFC East with a 9-7 record. In January 2016, he started his first career postseason game, as the Redskins were routed by the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wildcard game 35-18. During his rookie season, he was graded negatively in pass blocking by PFF after he gave up 26 hurries, eight hits, and two sacks.

(Jeremy Bloom, listed in the 2006 NFL Draft as being from Colorado had not played football for Colorado since the 2004 season and thus is not a loss for this year) Colorado did not appear in any of the Top 25 pre-season rankings (#26 in Collegefootballnews.com), and was selected to finish third in the Big 12 North with 2 selections to finish first in the Big 12 North. Colorado played their first Division I-AA opponent ever, Montana State, on September 2. Colorado was one of the last 9 Division I-A schools, at the time, to have never played a Division I-AA or Division II school. The California Golden Bears also lost that status in 2006.
