Sydney Morning Herald 15 March 2005 Elements of the proposal were incorporated into the Government's West Metro and CBD Relief Line projects.
It included a Pullman full vestibule parlor car, sleeping car, dining car, and coaches. Running during daylight hours, scenery included the Delaware Water Gap, Pocono Mountains, and the Susquehanna and Genesee River valleys. The fast train stopped only at principal cities. On August 30, 1943, the Lackawanna Limited wrecked in Wayland, New York, when it sideswiped a local freight that had not cleared into a siding, killing 20 and injuring more than 100.
Platforms with DB trains before their renovation The Berlin – Soltau (– Bremen) route was cut after the Second World War by the occupation zone border and lost its national significance. Even after the reunification and the closing of the gap to Salzwedel, the America Line remained a one-track branch line. Semi-fast train ran from Hamburg-Altona to Altenbeken via Hanover over the Heath Railway through Soltau from the 1950s until the 1970s. After that they terminated in Hanover.
Vehicular through traffic is not heavy, and is confined by traffic calming and other measures to a few north/south arterial throughways. The nearest London Underground stations are Mornington Crescent, Euston and King's Cross St Pancras. National Rail services operate from the nearby London King's Cross, London St Pancras and London Euston stations. St Pancras International is the terminus for Eurostar services and was the London terminus for the Javelin fast train service to London Olympic Park.
The popularity of Ventnor as a winter resort for invalids led to the introduction of a special train in the Autumn of 1891. The LBSCR operated a fast train that left London Victoria station at noon. After the ferry crossing an IoWR train left Ryde Pier Head at 15:15 and ran non-stop to Ventnor in 21 minutes. In the winter of 1894-1895 there were 12 return workings to Ventnor, increasing to 16 on Saturdays in summer.
In the Czech Republic, the train sets of the Czech Railways carrier are known as RegioPanter. In 2015-16 were built 14 units called InterPanter for fast train lines, which are use on routes Brno-Prague and Brno-Břeclav-Olomouc. InterPanter units have fewer doors, more luggage and bicycle space and a vending machine with snacks. All 440 class units will be in 2021-2022 upgraded to multi-system class 640 due to gradual switching to AC traction system.
The idea caught the interest of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway, who began development of what would become the UAC TurboTrain using the same system. The TurboTrain entered service in the US and Canada in 1968. The first successful European tilting train design was the Talgo in Spain, developed in the 1970s as a lightweight, fast train using passive tilt. The Spanish National Railway, RENFE, adopted the system widely, but was restricted to the Iberian peninsula initially.
The Paul Wild Observatory at Culgoora is named after him. In 1972 Paul Wild invented Interscan, a standard microwave landing system. From 1978 to 1985 he was chairman of the CSIRO, during which time he expanded the organisation's scope and directed its restructuring. He retired from the CSIRO to lead (from 1986) the Very Fast Train Joint Venture, a private sector project that sought to build a high-speed railway between Australia's two most populous cities.
Then, a carriage for third and fourth class passengers was attached to a freight train between Altenglan and Theisbergstegen. Especially in the 1930s, the timetable included several routes that operated over sections of different lines, such as the Homburg–Glan-Münchweiler–Ramstein route. From the early 1950s, a so-called Städteschnellzug ("city express", a supplement-free express train) ran between Kusel and Heidelberg, stopping in Glan-Münchweiler. In 1954, it was downgraded to a semi-fast train (Eilzug).
Moritzplatz is unusual in that the station was relocated from where it was originally planned. A large department store, Wertheim, had been located near the planned site since 1913, and gave the subway company 5 million Reichsmark to change their plans and give the store a direct subway connection. Near Moritzplatz station there is a 40m long tunnel intended to serve as a station for a fast train to Görlitzer Bahnhof.J. Meyer-Kronthaler: Berlins U-Bahnhöfe. be.
At 1.40pm on 29 October 1993 a "crude bomb with lots of nails" exploded under the seat of a second-class compartment in a train at Matunga Road station. 2 people died and 40 were injured. Matunga Road was one of the stations affected by 11 July 2006 Mumbai train bombings. Just before 18.15, a bomb exploded in the first-class general compartment of the 17.57 Churchgate-Virar fast train as it approached Matunga Road station.
On 23 December 1933, the second worst train accident in France occurred in Pomponne with a rear-end collision of Paris-Nancy express and Paris-Strasbourg fast train. 230 people were killed and 300 injured aboard the Nancy express as its 7 wood coaches were smashed. The driver of the Strasbourg train had passed a signal at danger in darkness and fog, but the "Crocodile" acoustic warning system was found to have failed because the contacts had iced over.
Class 332 trains (branded as "Heathrow Fast Train") carried passengers from Paddington to Heathrow Junction (a journey of 12 minutes), and a fleet of shuttle buses carried the passengers the remaining distance to the airport. On 23 June 1998 Heathrow Express service commenced to Heathrow Terminals 1, 2 and 3 railway station and Heathrow Terminal 4 railway station. Trains no longer called at Heathrow Junction, and within ten days the track leading to the station had been dismantled.

This provides services to London and Birmingham with a commuting time of 18 minutes on the fast train to London Marylebone. A new arch over the section of deep railway cutting to allow Tesco to build a supermarket collapsed on 30 June 2005 at 19:30.
A fast train from London Paddington to Newquay passes through the middle road. The tall chimney in the background marks the position of the pumping house. The railway approaches from Newton Abbot in the north-east runs south-westerly through the station and then swings to the west on a right-hand curve, which is the start of the steep climb up to Rattery. There are four tracks through the station with platforms alongside the outer pair.
As described in a film magazine, because his fiancee has deceived him, Robert Courtland (Warwick) decides to end his own life. He tries to shoot himself but is interrupted by the telephone. His next attempt is to be beneath the wheels of a fast train. After he has been resting peacefully some time on a carpet and cushion waiting for the train, Kitty Grey (Hammerstein), escaping from an undesirable marriage, calls on Robert for help in fixing her automobile.
The Advanced Passenger Train (APT) was initially an experimental project by British Rail, with the train entering service in 1984. Although eventually abandoned, the train was the pioneer of active tilt to negotiate tight curves at higher speeds than previous passive tilting trains. For various reasons, political and technical, after running in service for a year, the train was withdrawn. In the 1970s and 1980s, British Rail wanted an advanced fast train to negotiate the UK's twisting and winding Victorian-era rail system.

Stokes was 18 years old and had been working on the railways for almost two years at the time of the accident, having been based at Hither Green this entire time. He had worked with Wilsdon occasionally before and had driven with him a few times prior. Guard Atterbury was 57 and had been a guard since 1948 and was based at London Bridge and although he had worked the Bexleyheath line before, he had never done so on a fast train.
It was only allowed two minutes to do this (reduced to a single minute in 1908), and the Felixstowe portion continued on its way just three minutes later. A non-stop train each way between Liverpool Street and Felixstowe Town was introduced in 1906. Another fast train was introduced in 1907 with a single stop at . Traffic increased to such a degree that in August 1912 powers were obtained by the railway company to double the line from Westerfield to Felixstowe Town.
German Regional-Express train operated by Deutsche Bahn near Minden German Regional-Express operated by National Express in Cologne In Germany, Luxembourg and Austria, the Regional-Express (RE, or in Austria: REX) is a type of regional train. It is similar to a semi-fast train, with average speed at about 70–90 km/h (top speed often 160 km/h) as it calls at fewer stations than Regionalbahn or S-Bahn trains, but stops more often than InterCity services.

She released the second single ("Alibi") at the beginning of April.
Although this undoubtedly helped them, Moss's innate ability was clearly the predominant factor. Moss was competing against drivers with a large amount of local knowledge of the route, so the reconnaissance laps were considered an equaliser, rather than an advantage. Car #704 with Hans Herrmann and Hermann Eger was said to be fastest in the early stages, though. Herrmann had already had a remarkable race in 1954, when the gate on a railroad crossing was lowered in the last moment before the fast train to Rome passed.
He is also the author of several books dealing with politics and related issues, including Surveillance (2015), War On The Internet, and A Short History Of Stupid (with Helen Razer). Prior to his work with Crikey, Keane studied history at the University of Sydney, and then worked as a public servant and a speechwriter in transport and communications. In doing so he acted unceasingly to achieve his childhood ambition of bringing very fast train travel to the Australian people, without success. Keane, Bernard Augustine.
However, the explosive charge on the tracks turned out to be defective and the train went away, pp. 200-204. Polish railwaymen informed then that at 2:40 a fast train from Kraków to Warsaw would travel the same route. When the train approached the station, the guerrillas stopped it using a semaphore, then stormed the wagons of "Nur für Deutsche" (in English: "For Germans only"), pp. 204-205. There was a fierce battle in which at least a dozen Germans were killed or wounded.
NS provides three kinds of train service: # A Sprinter stops at all stations, and is mainly used for local traffic. On some smaller lines, though, it is the only kind of service. The name is derived from the 'Sprinter' (2900 class) rolling stock; however, the service was sometimes operated using older style rolling stock (such as 'Plan V/T': 400, 500, 800 and 900 class). # Intercity services only stop at larger stations, and were introduced in the 1970s to provide fast train connections throughout the country.
Chappelle directed the season's penultimate episode "Middle Ground". "Middle Ground" received the show's only Emmy Award nomination to date, for writers Simon and George Pelecanos in the category Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. Simon credits Chappelle with choosing the music for the season three closing montage; Solomon Burke's cover of Van Morrison's "Fast Train" which appeared in the season finale "Mission Accomplished". Chappelle returned as a co-executive producer, episodic director and second unit director for the fourth season of The Wire in 2006.
Alton portions ran with the stopping trains, being detached at Woking. The new service was a considerable success, and this was particularly so for the summer holiday traffic; the express service was modified on summer Saturdays to give good connections to the Isle of Wight and to Hayling Island. The basic service pattern remained unaltered for many years, but in 1971 was changed to one fast, one semi-fast and one stopping train per hour. Additional stops were later added to the semi-fast train.
Downtown Kaifeng is about away from Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport (IATA: CGO, ICAO: ZHCC), which is the busiest airport in central China in terms of both passenger and cargo traffic (2017 statistics). With the completion of Zhengzhou–Kaifeng intercity railway and Zhengzhou–Xinzheng Airport intercity railway, fast train connections to Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport from Kaifeng became available. As of August 2018, there are 12 pairs of intercity trains running between Xinzheng Airport and Songchenglu every day, with a travel time of 53 min.
Since 2006, Indonesian authorities have expressed an interest in high-speed rail for the densely populated island of Java, probably linking the cities of Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya."Indonesia to Build Railway for High-Speed Trains". RedOrbit, 7 February 2006. Since 2008, government with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Transportation Consultant has done pre-Feasibility study. The Jakarta-Surabaya 685-kilometre fast train will connect both cities in 2 hours 53 minutes with maximum speed 300 kilometres/hour and average speed 250 kilometres/hours.
Before reconstruction, the station offers trains to Qingdao and Jinan, as well as trains to Beijing and Shanghai. Out of the ten trains that enter the station, nine of them are China Railway High-speed trains (designated by "D" and "G"), while the last is a "Common-Fast" train (designated by "K") originating from Dandong. Currently the station is closed to build lines and platforms for Qingdao-Jinan High-speed railway. It is estimated that reopen will be scheduled in late 2018, along with the launch of the brand new High-speed railway.
Belgium's major international airport, Brussels Airport, is about from the city of Antwerp, and connects the city worldwide. It is connected to the city centre by bus, and also by train. The new Diabolo rail connection provides a direct fast train connection between Antwerp and Brussels Airport as of the summer of 2012. There is also a direct rail service between Antwerp (calling at Central and Berchem stations) and Charleroi South station, with a connecting buslink to Brussels South Charleroi Airport, which runs twice every hour on working days.
The second track, which had been dismantled after the war as war reparations to the Soviet Union, was rebuilt between 1948 and 1957. In passenger transport, most trains between Cottbus and Guben continued to Frankfurt (Oder). In the 1980s, for example, several express trains ran between Angermünde and Dresden via Frankfurt (Oder) and an inter-zone train (a train that was not available for journeys beginning and ending in East Germany) ran between Frankfurt (Oder) and Frankfurt (Main). During the summer, a semi-fast train also ran to Stralsund.
After travelling to Nashville to record "Flying on Your Own" and "Fast Train to Tokyo," MacNeil learned the show would not go ahead. A newspaper article with the headline ‘Fat lady with cleft lip not marketable: So says CBC Toronto’ said it all.On A Personal Note. p. 194 Not letting this disappointment get her down, MacNeil was ready to release her fourth album, Flying on Your Own, but record companies were unwilling to pick it up, so she decided to release it under her own record label, Lupin Production.
The Be 4/6 12301 was one of four test locomotives ordered by the Schweizerischen Bundesbahnen (Swiss Federal Railways) (SBB) in June 1917. For gaining experience for ordering electrical locomotives this locomotive should – as her three sisters Be 3/5 12201, Be 4/6 12302 and Ce 6/8I14201 – have been used for services on the Gotthardbahn (Gotthard railway). The Be 4/6 12301 was the alternative design of MFO for a fast train locomotive for the Gotthard railway line. She was designed and built according to the requirement specifications of the SBB.

Just before 18.15, a bomb exploded in the first-class general compartment of the 17.57 Churchgate-Virar fast train as the train was passing Matunga Road station on the fast line.
Another fast train was introduced in 1907 with a single stop at . In 1923 the Great Eastern Railway became a part of the new London and North Eastern Railway (LNER). Fewer through trains were run from London than before World War I, but from 1929 until 1939 there was a regular 'Eastern Belle' Pullman service. This train had been operating as the 'Clacton Pullman' but in 1929 was rescheduled to run from London to different LNER resorts in East Anglia each weekday, which resulted in it coming to Felixstowe once a fortnight.
In the opposite direction, a fast train from Berlin to Schwerin reached Grabow around 3am, a morning train ran from Wittenberge to Schwerin, at noon a train ran from Nauen to Schwerin and in the early evening a train from Nauen to Rostock reached the station.Deutsche Reichsbahn timetable, winter 1968/69; timetable, 1989/90 After Die Wende (the change), traffic increased significantly to Hamburg as direct trains were established. In the mid-1990s, services were extended and the timetable provided regular-interval services. Since then, Grabow station has been served every two hours.
There are also two former train categories, which are now used only by private operators: # Stoptrein: This is the original name for Sprinter trains. Between 2003 and 2013 NS discharged the Stoptrein formula in favour of Sprinter. Private operators do not use Sprinter so all private services in the Netherlands (except of the four Sneltreins of Arriva, see below) are Stoptrein. # Sneltrein: Sneltrein (in the English section of the old paper time tables, they were translated as "semi fast train" and were a class between Stoptrain and Intercity) was abandoned by NS in 2008.
Later in 1984 Peter Abeles, chairman of TNT, expressed interest in Dr Wild's proposal. Two years later in September 1986, the Very Fast Train Joint Venture was established, comprising Elders IXL, Kumagai Gumi, TNT and later BHP, with Dr Wild as chairman. They proposed a 350 km/h rail link from Sydney to Canberra via Goulburn, and then on to Melbourne via the coastal route (or alternatively the inland route). A feasibility study estimated to cost A$19 million ($39.5 million in 2013) was initiated by the group in 1988.
The railcar was a great success, covering between eight and 12 miles per gallon of fuel and costing only 4d per mile to run — far less than an equivalent steam train. During The Emergency the GNR introduced the seasonal Bundoran Express, one of Ireland's relatively few named trains. It was not a fast train but it was a through service via Dundalk between Dublin Amiens Street station and Bundoran. The train ran non-stop between and Pettigo, which allowed it to pass through Northern Ireland without stopping for customs checks.
Electricity permits control by dividing the layout into isolated blocks, where trains can be slowed or stopped by lowering or cutting power to a block. Dividing a layout into blocks permits operators to run more than one train with less risk of a fast train catching and hitting a slow train. Blocks can also trigger signals or other accessories, adding realism or whimsy. Three-rail systems often insulate one of the common rails on a section of track, and use a passing train to complete the circuit and activate an accessory.
Shenfield's significance in the London commuter belt will increase as the Crossrail project proceeds, since it is intended to remain the eastern terminus. Currently, fast train services reach Liverpool Street in between 20 and 25 minutes. Slow train services, currently operating as TfL Rail before becoming part of the Elizabeth Line under the Crossrail project, take 40 minutes to reach Liverpool Street. The building of Crossrail has led to significant disruption to the train operations running through Shenfield in the last few years, particularly at weekends and bank holidays.
Platforms of the main line. The building of the DUE are behind to the left and the tracks of the NLE are to the right out of shot. Since the separation of express and stopping passenger services in the late 19th century, Uckro has been mostly served by stopping trains; express (Schnellzug ) and semi-fast (Eilzug) trains have rarely stopped there. On the main line, four daily stopping trains and a semi-fast train stopped in 1939 and there were two stopping trains and a semi-fast on weekends.
Projects like Ecobici, a bike sharing network, (2009) have proven to be successful by becoming the largest system in North America with 85 stations and 300 km of bike lanes. In addition, zones like the historic center have various pedestrian streets, and zero emission lines of buses to replace old microbuses. Projects to build fast train tracks are also currently underway connecting outside zones like Toluca to the core of the city. Another recent program is the “Today, you don’t drive program” limiting driving based on license plates.
This was against a train mileage of 23,555 with working expenses of 3 shillings per train mile, resulting in a loss of £500. Nevertheless, increases in traffic from January 1874 led to general service improvements, with notably the introduction of a 09:00 service to London from Tunbridge Wells. From July 1877 another London service was introduced, a fast train leaving Tunbridge Wells at 10:00 to arrive at London Victoria at 11:30, with stops at Groombridge and Withyham (for first class passengers), and then at Forest Row, East Grinstead and Three Bridges.
On Mondays to Saturdays, a half-hourly all-stations service to London Waterloo runs via and the Hounslow Loop Line. Travel time may be shortened by a few minutes by changing to a fast train at Staines or Weybridge. On Sundays there is an hourly all- stations service which, instead of going to Weybridge, takes the west curve at Byfleet Junction and terminates at . That curve is little used although from 2000 to 2002 the London Crosslink service of Anglia Railways from Colchester and Ipswich to Basingstoke via north London and Staines, which used Class 170 DMUs, took it.
French TGV network, with the LGV Est in brown running east from Paris In 1969, Metz politician Raymond Mondon requested a study of a fast train from Paris to Strasbourg along the route of the planned A4 autoroute. In 1970–71, the International Union of Railways (UIC, based on its French acronym) developed a master plan of fast intercity connections in continental Europe. Its connection between Paris and Strasbourg was very similar to the route of the LGV Est. The UIC master plan called for this line to be constructed shortly after Paris-Lyon and Paris-Brussels lines.
In the last years of East Germany a daily fast train ran from Bad Salzungen via Eisenach to Zwickau. On another section of the line an express train for construction workers ran on Monday, generally shortly after midnight, from Bad Salzungen via Meiningen and Erfurt to Berlin. Only on the short section between Meiningen and Grimmenthal did fast trains run more often than daily to destinations including Berlin, Leipzig, Halle (Saale), Dresden, Görlitz and Stralsund, alternating between the Werra line via Eisenach and the direct line to Erfurt. Among them was the well-known Städteexpress ("city express"), Rennsteig, that first ran in 1976.
On another occasion, Senna and Brazilian compatriot Maurício Gugelmin decided to fill Berger's shoes with shaving foam on a fast train ride to a dinner in Japan. The Austrian was forced to attend the dinner wearing a tuxedo with running shoes. A further incident followed in which Berger replaced Senna's passport photo with what Ron Dennis described as "an equivalent-sized piece of male genitalia" (although other media accounts refer to a black pair of breasts). Senna's fame meant he rarely had his passport checked, but on a later trip to Argentina, Berger's prank resulted in officials holding the Brazilian for 24 hours.
In the following year further trains of this type were run, and the previous year's East and West Through Train was extended from Sandown to Ventnor, and named The Tourist in the public timetable. A through fast train from Ryde to Freshwater was also introduced, the first such for twenty years. The crossing loop at Ningwood was lengthened to in 1936 to accommodate these services, while the loops at Carisbrooke and Yarmouth were removed. In the summer of 1939 there were thirteen trains in each direction with extra trains on Saturdays, and eight each way on Sundays.
Today's NRW-Express replaced existing express services on individual sections of the route after the regionalisation of transport in Germany. A number of stations previously served by long-distance trains, such as Düsseldorf-Benrath and Wattenscheid came to be served by regional services only. The NRW-Express was first classified as Regionalschnellbahn ("regional fast train") RSB 1, then as StadtExpress ("city express") SE 1 and eventually as Regional-Express RE 1, when it was also given the name of NRW-Express. The service originally operated on the Aachen–Bielefeld route and was composed of class 110 locomotives hauling six partly modernised Silberling carriages.
A fast train operated in the early 1890s from Berlin to Stuttgart via Erfurt, Meiningen and Schweinfurt. In 1914, there were three trains each day on this route, yet all ran via Meiningen, although they had to reverse there. At its height in 1938 a daily pair of fast long-distance expresses (Fernschnellzug, FD-Zug, catering to first and second class passengers, but not third class passengers) and five pairs of ordinary expresses ran on the line, which ran on the Berlin–Erfurt–Schweinfurt–Würzburg–Stuttgart route. The FD 8 service included coaches that continued to Zurich and Ventimiglia in Italy.
Fast Train ran between Paddington and the temporary single platform siding station called Heathrow Junction, which was constructed on the down side of the Down Airport line just before the tunnel portal. The service frequency is four trains per hour, one every 15 minutes. The units can work on their own or in pairs, although 2 five-car units cannot be used together making the maximum length nine carriages. The units have first class and Standard class accommodation: the four-car sets can accommodate up to 175 standard class passengers, with up to 239 in the five- car sets.
Fast train connections to central London have resulted in the town becoming a primarily residential suburb. In 1946, the Admiralty started to build highly secret high-performance electronic digital computers at Borehamwood in a redundant wartime factory, firstly for the purpose of real-time gunnery control, and later for surface-to-air guided weapons and missiles, and for specialist cryptography and code-breaking computers for GCHQ.Simon Lavington ed. 2012 Alan Turing and his contemporaries: Building the World's First Computers BCS Borehamwood is currently undergoing a substantial housing transformation which has seen hundreds of new homes built over the last five years.
Furthermore, a luxtorpeda fast train connected Zalishchyky with Ternopil. The town suffered three catastrophic floods in 1863, 1871, and 1927. Crossing the border at Zalishchyky into Romania on 15 September 1939, 2 days before the Soviet invasion from the east - passport. Zalishchyky's already prolific reputation in the world of tourism coupled with the luxtorpeda railways revived Zalishchyky's tourist industry, and the town's economy boomed as it slowly became completely oriented to tourist activity. This bloom lasted until 1939 when Germany commenced the Invasion of Poland, igniting World War II and leading Soviet Ukraine, a constituent republic of the Soviet Union, to annex Zalishchyky on 17 September, during the Polish September Campaign.
The Very Fast Train (VFT) was a proposed high-speed railway between Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne in south-eastern Australia. Initially conceived by Dr Paul Wild of the CSIRO in 1984, the proposal was adopted by a private-sector joint venture in 1987, comprising Elders IXL, Kumagai Gumi, TNT and BHP. Several major studies were undertaken in the 1980s and early 1990s, which showed the proposal to be both technically and financially feasible. The VFT attracted widespread support from both the general public and sections of government, but the joint venture folded following the failure to secure a favourable taxation agreement with the Federal Government in late 1991.
At the end of the 1950s, the prestigious services on the Gotthard line were more and more run by Ae 6/6. In 1960, four Ae 4/7 (10948–10951) got a wider pantograph compatible to ÖBB standards, so that they could run international trains from St. Margrethen via Bregenz to Lindau. At the end of the 1960s, their fast train duties were taken over by the new Re 4/4 II. Some being equipped with multiple-unit train control, they could now be used for heavy freight trains. Ae 4/7 that could not be run in multiple mostly ran commuter trains and light freight trains.
Construction on the Ankara–Konya high-speed railway began in 2006 and was completed in 2011. Under the strategic aims published by the Transport Ministry while Yıldırım was in office, the government planned over of high speed lines by the year 2023, as part of the AKP's '2023 vision' for the centenary of the Turkish Republic. The 'fast train' services were however met with criticism that the government had refused to listen to scientific concerns, with the project coming under heavy fire following the 2004 Pamukova train derailment despite Yıldırım's insistence that it would not be scrapped.Binali Yıldırım'ın oğlu Erkan Yıldırımın gemi sahibi olması basından tepki alıyor. The two constituent railways of the SECR had both relied on 0-4-4T locomotives for London suburban, and semi-fast train services. The South Eastern Railway (SER) Q class was introduced in 1887, and the London Chatham and Dover Railway (LCDR) R class in 1891. Of these, the R was the most successful design, and was continued in production (in the form of the LCDR R1 class) by Harry Wainwright after the amalgamation of the railways in 1899. However, as traffic continued to increase there was a need for a new powerful 0-4-4T design to take over from the SER Q class.
Train categories in Bulgaria use the simplified model of the previous century. At the beginning of rail transport in Bulgaria there were only three categories of passenger trains: "Бърз пътнически влак (БПВ)" - Barz patnicheski vlak (Fast passenger train), the equivalent of the current Fast train; "Обикновен пътнически влак (ОПВ)" - Obiknoven patnicheski vlak (Regular passenger train), the equivalent of the current Passenger train and "Смесен пътнически влак (СПВ)" - Smesen patnicheski vlak, the equivalent of Mixed train. Using this basis BDŽ now provides extended variety of these simle categories. ; ~~ЕВ – Експресен влак [Ekspresen vlak] – Express train~~ : EV – Trains for medium and long distances, which stop only at the most major stations (in big cities or for a train connection).
Train The Vannes railway station offers connections to Quimper, Rennes, Nantes, Paris and several regional destinations. With the fast train TGV, the journey takes: – 30 minutes to Lorient, – 1 hour to Nantes or Rennes, – 2.5 to 4 hours to Paris. The Transport express régional or TER is a slower train to join railway stations in the close neighborhood, such as Auray or Questembert. There is no direct line from Vannes to Saint-Brieuc (118 km away in the north of Brittany), so the train from Vannes to Saint Brieuc goes via Rennes, which doubles the travel time and cost: it takes 2 to 3 hours to go from Vannes to Saint Brieuc by train.
The old IoWCR railcar had been rebuilt several years before as an open third saloon with wooden slat seats was now rebuilt into a third class corridor observation coach to run in the through train. This was immediately popular and additional through trains were run in the 1933 summer service between the Ryde - Ventnor line and the Freshwater branch. The original through train, now starting from Ventnor with an accelerated timing, and became the first named train, each coach carrying a board with "The Tourist" in gold on a red background. A second through fast train was also included in the programme between Ryde Pier Head and Freshwater, the first for twenty years.
Opening ceremony of Marmaray, the world's first intercontinental subway, October 2013 In 2003, the government launched Turkey's first high- speed rail project, the Hızlandırılmış tren ("Fast train"). On 4 January 2004, Yıldırım oversaw the launch of construction works on the first branch between Ankara and Eskişehir, that was eventually inaugurated in 2009 with total costs of ₺7.5 million to upgrade the tracks, rolling stock and increase the speed of trains on the route to . At the same time, work was completed to increase the average train speeds to throughout Turkey. In 2014, the line, operated by a subsidiary of the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), was extended to İstanbul, completing the Ankara–İstanbul high-speed railway.
After a connection was opened from the Stralsund line to the Hauptbahnhof in 1905, the old Friedrich Franz station became a freight yard only. Also significant for the line was the reconstruction of the Warnemünde station in 1903 and the establishment of a direct train ferry service to Gedser, Denmark. From then on direct Hamburg–Rostock–Copenhagen trains operated, with sections continuing to Stockholm and Oslo. In 1934 services consisted of two pairs of high-quality express trains (D-Zug)—with an additional service in the summer—between Hamburg and Scandinavia, a semi-fast train between Rostock and Uelzen, an express train between Rostock and Lübeck and, in summer, an express train between Rostock and Leipzig.
Contemporary photograph of the aftermath of the runaway Board of Trade plan of accident site The line was operated on the time interval system (rather than block working) so that there was no means at Armagh of knowing that the line was not clear. The required 20-minute interval before letting a fast train follow a slow one having elapsed, the following scheduled passenger train had left Armagh. With an engine of similar performance, but a much lighter train (six vehicles), it was managing about up the gradient when, at a distance of about , the driver of the ordinary train saw the approaching runaway vehicle. He braked his train, and had reduced speed to at the moment of collision.
The Vaigai Superfast Express is a super fast express train running daily between Madurai and Chennai via Tiruchirappalli operated by Southern Railway zone of the Indian railways. The name 'Vaigai Express' has been always popular among not only rail users but also among rail fans of two different generations as the train has won the hearts of thousands of people who have known and experienced it from the early days. Due to the demand for a day train between Madurai and Madras, which gradually began to increase from the 1970s, the Southern Railway decided to introduce a super fast train for the first time on the MG in Southern railway. This train got updated with modern LHB coaches from 30 June 2019.
Other reasons for the scheme's failure were speculated to include a difficult relationship between joint venture members, the deregulation of the Australian airline market, environmental and noise pollution concerns, accusations that the scheme was in fact a disguised land development project, and a lack of planning support from Federal and state governments. The Very Fast Train remains the most substantial investment into a high-speed rail project in Australia, and the only proposal to involve 100% private funding. Although there have been numerous subsequent studies into high-speed rail since the VFT, none have come as close to realisation. Several of the joint venture members went on to propose additional fast-rail projects during the 1990s, but none passed beyond the planning stage.
In August 1989, the Government issued a statement of support to the VFT project, against the advice of eight Federal departments which had advised against taking a definite position due to uncertainties remaining after the release of the joint venture's concept report, which they declared "inadequate." Only the Department of Industry recommended supporting the proposal outright. Prime Minister Bob Hawke called the VFT "the most important development project since World War II." A report entitled The Economics of the Very Fast Train was released in October 1990. Prepared by the well respected Canberra consultancy Access Economics, the report claimed a net-benefit to the economy of 12 billion 1990 dollars, with the major benefits being reduced atmospheric pollution, lower road maintenance, and reduced congestion at Sydney Airport.
It estimated the 1748 km railway between Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane with a spur line to Canberra would cost $114 billion (100% publicly funded) and not be fully operational until 2065. It was heavily criticised for its extremely high cost estimates and absurdly long construction timeframe, with the suggestion that this meant the government had never intended the project to go ahead. The Very Fast Train Joint Venture's series of studies remain the most expensive investigation of high speed rail performed in Australia with a cost of over $37 million in 2013 dollars, and no proposal has come closer to becoming a reality. It remains the only high-speed rail proposal to have maintained a promise of no net cost to the taxpayer.
The actor was not given a script until his first day of filming. Gazey did not know he was to become a permanent member of the cast until after his first stint was completed, as he confirmed in an interview with website Digital Spy: "It was never on the cards, but everyone was so supportive of me and my character. On my last day of filming of my first ever block, the crew gave me a clap to say goodbye and they all said 'Goodbye Craig', while a couple of them added 'for now' on the end." He told female first that he had to throw himself back into the role as being a member of the cast is like being on a 'fast train'.
Yıldırım at a meeting between the cabinets of Russia and Turkey, 2010 On 22 July 2004, a fast train en route from Ankara to İstanbul derailed after entering a curve too fast while passing through Pamukova, Sakarya Province. The train was one of the new 'fast trains' that ran on upgraded track and with new rolling stock brought in by Yıldırım and the AKP government as part of their 'faster trains' program. 41 people were killed while 80 were injured in the accident. Yıldırım, as the Minister responsible for the 'faster trains' program, faced heavy criticism and calls for his resignation following the incident, with trade unions and non- governmental organisations blaming Yıldırım's dismissal of concerns raised by scientific experts about the safety of the new trains.
"None of Us Are Free" was also featured at the end of the sixth episode ("Spin") of the second season of House. "Fast Train" was featured during the ending montage of the season three finale of The Wire. The title track, written by the team of Dan Penn and Carson Whitsett with Hoy Lindsey, gained popularity (and introduced Burke to a new generation) when it was used several times on the popular primetime teen soap opera The O.C. as one of the signature song of adult couple Sandy and Kirsten Cohen, played by Peter Gallagher and Kelly Rowan. It became a staple of Burke's live performances and has been covered by Joe Cocker, as well as Peter Gallagher, who also performed the song on The O.C.
In 1941, the Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) placed an order with Henschel & Son in Germany for fifty BDZ class 03 express passenger locomotives. They were of the type (2-4-1 axle arrangement, simple steam expansion, superheating, three-cylinder, fast train service) and were designed to be capable of hauling heavy passenger trains over the often severe profiles of the Bulgarian mainlines, with gradients of up to 2.8%. The first two locomotives were delivered by the end of 1941. During trials, it proved that the specifications of the BDZ designing engineers were correct and that they had successfully overcome the shortcomings of insufficient power and some construction problems that had been experienced with the BDZ Mikado class 01 and class 02 locomotives.
In the 1980s the pattern was somewhat different: the off-peak trains ran half-hourly and stopped at Surbiton, Woking then all stations, being detached from the Bournemouth (hourly) or Basingstoke (hourly) stopping services. Around 1985 Alton lost its half-hourly service, with half the trains terminating at Farnham. Peak services were approximately every 20 minutes until 1985, half- hourly thereafter, generally going fast Waterloo to Woking, occasionally stopping at West Byfleet or Surbiton In 1989 the service changed again with three trains an hour as far as Farnham: a fast train (Clapham Junction, Woking and all stations to Alton), a semi-fast (Surbiton, certain stations to Woking, then all to Farnham) and a slow (Clapham Junction, Wimbledon, Surbiton and all stations to Farnham).
In 1922 there were eight passenger trains each way on the route, including a morning breakfast car train from Turnberry to Glasgow and an afternoon tea car returning, running non-stop between Turnberry and Ayr. There was an additional lunchtime southbound fast train on Saturdays, and two short workings Turnberry to Girvan.Bradshaw's General Railway and Steam Navigation Guide, 7th mo, (July) 1922, reprinted by Guild Publishing, London, 1985 In 1923 the railways of Great Britain were "grouped" under the Railways Act 1921, and the G&SWR; was thenceforward a constituent of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS). A Sentinel steam coach was introduced on the line from September 1927. These vehicles were intended to reduce running costs, and while not unsuccessful operationally, it was moved elsewhere from April 1928.
FW-Railways at station Frauenfeld Frauenfeld is a central location in western Thurgau and is served by a railway station and two exits on the A7 motorway. It has a town bus service with 5 bus lines which run every 15 minutes to every corner of the town. Frauenfeld railway station supports a regional train, part of the Zürich S-Bahn, from Weinfelden to Winterthur (S8 and S30) every 30 minutes, as well in the opposite direction and a fast train (InterCity and InterRegio) that travels to Zürich every 30 minutes, as well in the opposite direction to Weinfelden and further to Constance in Germany or Romanshorn. During busy times in the mornings and evenings these trains are supported by another train (called "S") which stops in the bigger towns (like IR/IC).
Based on the definition of a minimum top speed of 200 km/h in passenger service, High-speed rail in Australia does not yet exist, but there are proposals for high-speed rail (HSR) infrastructure in Australia (also known as very fast train projects) - several proposals have been investigated since the early 1980s. Various combinations of the route between Melbourne, Canberra, Goulburn, Sydney, Newcastle, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast and Brisbane have been the subject of detailed investigation by prospective operators, government departments and advocacy groups. Phase 1 of the A$20m HSR study was released on 4 August 2011. It proposed a corridor similar to the 2001 study, with prospective stations located in Melbourne, Tullamarine, Albury, Canberra, Goulburn, Sydney, Newcastle, the Mid—North Coast, Gold Coast and Brisbane.
On 8 November 2013 the High Speed Rail Advisory Group, charged with part of the planning for a very fast train between Brisbane and Melbourne, was one of 20 government committees and councils identified to be wound up as part of the newly elected Abbott Government's initial efforts to cut costs and "ensure that the machinery of government is as efficient and as small as possible". However, the following month, former Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss announced that the Coalition was committed to acquiring the land corridor identified by the previous government's study, and that he was personally seeking the co-operation of the premiers of Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, and the Chief Minister of the ACT. The Labor Party indicated it would support the move.
Trains crossing in Engelsdorf Werkstätten in 2000 The only services on the Leipzig–Geithain line are passenger services contracted and financed by the Zweckverband für den Nahverkehrsraum Leipzig (municipal association for local transport in the Leipzig area). With the Regional-Express RE 6 (Chemnitz- Leipzig-Express) (operated since the timetable change in December 2015 by Transdev Regio Ost (eastern region) under the marketing name of Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn (Central German Regional Railway)) there is an hourly, fast train service between Leipzig Hbf, Bad Lausick and Geithain. These trains continue to Chemnitz Hbf. This service is supplemented by stopping trains on the Leipzig–Bad Lausick route, which are extended to Geithain every two hours (operated since 12 June 2016 by DB Regio Südost, but operated previously for many years by Transdev Regio Ost).
In December 2008, the Rudd Government announced that a Very Fast Train along the Sydney–Melbourne corridor, estimated to cost A$25 billion, was the government's highest infrastructure priority. On 31 October 2010, the Government issued the terms of reference for a strategic study to inform it and the New South Wales, Victorian, Queensland and Australian Capital Territory governments about implementation of HSR on the east coast of Australia between Melbourne and Brisbane - it cost $20 million and was undertaken in two phases. The initiative was supported by both the Liberal opposition and the Australian Greens, the latter of which called for the study's scope to be extended to encompass Adelaide and Perth, a sentiment that was echoed by some. In 2013 the Australian government released the finished study, with the proposed route linking Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, and Brisbane.
The term metro is not usually used to describe metro systems in German- speaking areas (Germany, Austria and parts of Switzerland), instead using the term U-Bahn—a shortening of Untergrundbahn, meaning "underground railway"—and S-Bahn—an abbreviation for the German "Stadtschnellbahn" or just "Schnellbahn" (fast city train, fast train) the more common English translation, suburban train. So for example in Berlin, the mostly underground system is known as the Berlin U-Bahn and it is integrated with the mostly above-ground system, known as the Berlin S-Bahn. The Frankfurt U-Bahn is an important exception, the system being really a light rail transit system with underground sections. Hamburg S-Bahn fulfills all criteria for heavy rail inside the state and city of Hamburg, but some lines go beyond the state border into the state of Niedersachsen and there the S-Bahn runs with lower train frequency.
At the time of the introduction of electric traction the locomotives looked strange to the railway staff. The air grilles resembled wrinkles, therefore the locomotive was sometimes nicknamed grandmother. After its delivery in March 1922 the locomotive was used first on the Bern (Berne) – Thun line, because this line was the first one electrified with the necessary 15 kV 16⅔ Hz AC. Unlike the prototype locomotives with rod drives, the Ae 4/8 was never used on the adjacent Lötschbergbahn (Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon railway) from Thun to Brig. The locomotive was not based in Bern for long; its service there was followed by a test phase on various lines including the Gotthardbahn (Gotthard railway). In 1925 the locomotive was assigned to the Basel (Basle) depot, where it remained until its withdrawal from service. In 1927 its roster included – together with two Ae 4/7s – two fast train pairs Basle – Zürich and back with a daily run of .
Jakobs bogie of the Pioneer Zephyr (CB&Q; 9900, Budd 1934) The first fast train using this type of bogie was the German Fliegender Hamburger in 1932. In the United States, such configurations were used throughout the twentieth century with some success on early streamlined passenger trainsets, such as the Pioneer Zephyr in 1934, various Southern Pacific Daylight articulated cars, and Union Pacific Railroad's M-10000. Dallas Area Rapid Transit rail trains originally used a center bogie in a two-car unit but these have been modified to add a lower center section for handicapped level entry making a 3-car unit with two Jacobs bogies. Vehicles featuring Jacobs bogies include the Alstom-made TGV and Eurostar trains, the Bombardier Talent series of multiple units, the LINT41, the Class 423 S-Bahn vehicles, the Canadian CN Turbo-Trains, several FLIRT trains,Leutenegger Engineering & Consulting Forged Aluminium Parts for Rolling Stock Structures IC3 by Adtranz, the JR Central L0 Series maglev and the Škoda ForCity tram.
Market Blandings is a fictional town, being the closest town to Blandings Castle. It is the site of the Emsworth Arms and a host of other hostelries (such as the Beetle and Wedge, the Blue Boar, the Blue Cow, the Blue Dragon, the Cow and Grasshopper, the Goat and Feathers, the Goose and Gander, the Jolly Cricketers, the Stitch in Time, the Wheatsheaf, and the Waggoner's Rest), as well as a useful railway station, from where a fast train can get you to Paddington in under four hours. A sleepy old place, Market Blandings is one of England's most picturesque towns, and has an air of having been the same for centuries; the lichened church has a four-square tower, the shops red roofs, and the upper floors of the inns bulge comfortably outward. The most modern thing there is the moving-picture house, which calls itself an "Electric Theatre", is covered in ivy and features stone gables; the only other up-to-date location is the shop of Jno.
An Amtrak TurboTrain arriving at Ann Arbor, Michigan in September 1971. Two Turbotrains (DOT1 and DOT2) were built at the Pullman Works in Chicago. High-speed testing of the trains was performed from a base at Fields Point in Providence, Rhode Island, using track between Route 128 near Boston and Westerly, Rhode Island (track segments along this section, to this day, are the only areas where Amtrak operates Acela revenue service at 150 mph). After its construction at the Pullman yards in Chicago, the Turbotrain was sent eastward on August 1, 1967, at regular speed and without passengers, to Providence, Rhode Island in order for UAC Aircraft Systems engineers to tear it down, study it for further development, and then eventual high-speed testing on a specially-built track between Trenton and New Brunswick, New Jersey. The Backnang–Bietigheim route was originally built as part of an east–west axis for freight transport. To a much lesser extent there were also long-distance passenger services on the east–west route: for example, in the summer 1914 timetable an express train (D-Zug, a fast and luxurious express using carriages with compartments and having a corridor) ran from Cheb (then a largely German speaking city called Eger) to Bietigheim with some of its coaches running from Nuremberg to Paris and a fast train (S-Zug, slower and less luxurious than a D-Zug and using carriages with compartments but having no corridor) from Hof to Bietigheim, with through coaches from Nuremberg to Luxembourg and Trier. These trains use this line to bypass Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof. From 1931, an express service ran for two years on this line between Nuremberg and Strasbourg with through coaches from Prague to Paris. Until the early 1960s, passenger trains were hauled by steam locomotives of class 75.0 (Württemberg T 5) and 93.5 (Prussian T 14.1). After the phasing out of these locomotives they were replaced by Einheitsdampflokomotive ("standard steam locomotives") of class 64 and 86 based in Stuttgart until the mid-1960s.
The line was served by, along with eight pairs of trains running over the whole line and another pair reversing in Neckargemünd, some of which did not stop in Waldhilsbach and Reilsheim, six train pairs to Obrigheim, two train pairs from Heilbronn to Bad Rappenau and one semi-fast train pair on both the Heidelberg–Stuttgart and the Cologne–Darmstadt–Heidelberg–Stuttgart routes, and the trains of the line to Eppingen between Sinsheim and Steinsfurt. (scan of 1953 timetable) The last steam train ran from Mannheim on 24 December 1972 and steam trains stopped running on the line before the timetable change at the end of May 1973. From the summer of 1973 to 1975, there were through coaches from Paris to Heilbronn, which formed part of the semi-fast trains 1555 and 1756 on the Elsenz Valley Railway. RE 4840 to Mannheim on the Neckar bridge in Bad Friedrichshall-Jagstfeld, 2007 RB 18332 from Eppingen to Heidelberg in Steinsfurt, 2007 At the end of 1988, a clock-face timetable was introduced on the line. After the electrification of the line, Regional-Express services were operated with Silberling coaches and diesel locomotives of class 218 and many Regionalbahn services were operated with class 628 diesel multiple units.
The main purpose of skipping stations was clearly no longer to achieve shorter travel times, but to allow trains to run over a particular section of single- track line quickly enough that the trains running in the opposite direction before and after them were hindered as little as possible. As a rule, over the years not more than three trains per day and direction ran as (partial) semi- fast trains and the last semi-fast train ran on this line on 22 May 1982. In the 1960s, during several timetable periodsOfficial timetable of Deutsche Bundesbahn (summer 1961, summer 1963, summer 1964, summer 1965, summer 1968) a motorail train ran with sleeping and couchette cars from Avignon to Düsseldorf and return over the Düren–Neuss line on Saturdays in the summer months. Since this train could only stop at car loading stations—so not between Düsseldorf and Aachen—and since neither the main line via Cologne nor the line via Mönchengladbach were electrified until 1966, this was hauled by a fast class 03 steam locomotive over the less congested line via Bedburg, which had been developed for operations at 100 km/h or more, which corresponded approximately at that time to the permissible maximum speed for car-carrying trains.

In the early years of the 20th century there was keen competition between the Great Western Railway (GWR) and the London and South Western Railway (LSWR) for the rail traffic between London and Plymouth. The LSWR route via Salisbury was 15 miles shorter than the GWR via Bristol, but to counter this the GWR started running non-stop to Exeter, and this provided the basis of a plan for a fast train to Plymouth and Penzance. A new express service with limited stops was promoted by the GWR, commencing on 1 July 1904. It left London at 10:10 and was timed to reach Penzance at 17:10 running to Plymouth in 4 hours 25 minutes, a cut of 28 minutes on the previous fastest service.
