In each case, the species has a life cycle timed to exploit a short period when resources are freely available.

The Eternals live in the "trackless wastes of eternity" and rely on Ephemerals for their thoughts and ideas. This race is being run by the Guardians to win Enlightenment, the wisdom to know everything. The Doctor finds that the Eternals have made his TARDIS vanish, forcing him and his companions to stay until the race's conclusion. As the race continues, several of the vessels are destroyed by explosions.

In terms of water stress, there was a difference in the facilitative effects between mesic and xeric sites. The canopy is dominated by American beech and sugar maple trees, providing little light to the understory. The Eternals are a race of cosmic beings first introduced in the Doctor Who TV adventure Enlightenment with the Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) in 1983. An Eternal who called himself Striker explains to the Doctor that he and his people live outside of time, in the realm of eternity. They consider the mortal inhabitants of the universe to be "Ephemerals", including even the Time Lords of the planet Gallifrey. Striker seems completely unaware of the existence of the Time Lords before meeting the Doctor.

In recent years, the higher-than-average quality of EB films have enjoyed renewed interest as some titles gradually fell into public domain and are easily viewed on YouTube and the Internet Archive. Because the company made comparatively fewer social guidance films than rivals like McGraw-Hill and Coronet (the type that are often ridiculed today with the changing social customs) and the producers were very cautious in their choices of narration and music, many of these films tend to be viewed as less "dated" today than other non-theatrical ephemerals.

A Morrow's honeysuckle in Ohio Due to its early leafing, Morrow's honeysuckle is particularly harmful to spring ephemerals, flowers that evolved to bloom briefly in the spring before other plants leafed out. A research study was completed in 2009 by the Journal of Arid Environments which compared the flowering phenology of both shrubs and ephemerals in both urban and non-urban areas. The yellow twining snapdragon's flowering was delayed in urban areas compared to non-urban areas, in which its flowering phenology was considered normal. The plant was referred to as, "a most handsome, climbing annual, with long, slender, bright green stems and leaves" by Edmund Carroll Jaeger, the author of Desert Wild Flowers which was published in 1940 by Stanford University Press.

Andrena erythronii is a species of miner bee native to eastern North America. It is known as the trout lily miner bee, trout-lily andrena, and trout lily bee, for its association with trout lilies, flowers in the genus Erythronium. It has also been observed visiting the flowers of other spring ephemerals such as spring beauty (Claytonia), hepatica (Hepatica), and harbinger-of-spring (Erigenia bulbosa), as well as spring-flowering shrubs and trees: serviceberry (Amelanchier), plum and cherry (Prunus), and willow (Salix). Female trout lily miner bees reach 11–14 mm in length while males are a little smaller: 9–11 mm.

Following interference from both the White and Black Guardians, the Fifth Doctor materialises the TARDIS in what appears to be the hold of an Edwardian yacht, though the Doctor senses something is amiss. The human crew have no idea how they got there nor where they are, but know they are helping their captain to run a race. The Doctor and his companions, Tegan and Turlough discover that the ship, and several other historical Earth ships, are competing in a solar sail race through the Solar System. The ship's officers reveal themselves to be "Eternals", compared to the Doctor and the humans as "Ephemerals".

The group also enlisted the aid of Americorps volunteers to build a cedar pergola near the garden entrance, and grape vines were then planted at the base of each post. With the majority of the gardens established, a formal dedication ceremony attended by local dignitaries was held on June 26, 2005 to commemorate the completion of the Village Roots Garden and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Bay View Garden and Yard Society. Since that time, the group continues to maintain and develop the site. Most of the action in the game revolved around the city of Fayd, which served as the hub of activity for adventures, intrigue and roleplaying events. Some of the races included: aelfen (an elflike species), drakin (a race of dragon-men that ultimately resulted in player-created languages and cultural institutions), ephemerals (a wraithlike species that could not be harmed unless the player chose to manifest themself), highlander (think dwarves), humans (the only people who could utilize ancient technology), murg (a proud warrior race), mechanoids (artificial beings) and wolflings (a race of shapechangers). Although the federal government had gradually been decreasing the amount spent on education when Carter was president, it was the mid and late eighties that saw the most rapid decline as the Cold War drew to a close and the Soviet Union was no longer a threat. After two back-to-back and very brief tenures with Jim Parton (succeeding Warren Everote) and Jack Saunders, Ross Sackett took over the same year as Benton's death. Among the popular releases of the period included Energy: A Matter of Choices (one of many ephemerals of the decade covering that "hot topic", this one produced by Charles Finance), John Barnes profiling John Keats and The Bible As Literature, a comedy pantomime series "Bip" featuring Marcel Marceau and many featurette (25+ minutes) co- productions with Avatar Learning covering earthquakes, dinosaurs and sharks. Thomas G. Smith capped off a long career with EB with the 1976–77 production of The Solar System with special computer generated effects not unlike those being used in the early Star Wars films.
