The genus Incisalia, described by Samuel Hubbard Scudder in 1872, consists of butterflies in the family Lycaenidae found in North America. They are commonly called elfins.

Under six. The most recently established age group in Woodcraft Folk. Previously, under-sixes were known unofficially by several different names, including Pixies, Wood Pigeons and Mini-Elfins.

Scholars such as Alfred P. Smyth suggest two Elfins, one the son of Eugein and one the son of Neithon.Smyth, pp. 64–65. However, Alan MacQuarrie suggests that there was one Elfin, but that the Annals of Ulster have substituted the name of his great-grandfather Neithon for his father Eugein, an error perhaps reflecting importance attached to descent from Neithon.

Brown elfins, believed to have once populated the Piedmont, were restricted to the state's mountains. However, the brown elfin butterflies at Occoneechee Mountain remained. The land the state natural area now sits on was originally settled by the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, who traveled to the mountain from the west. In the colonial period, European immigrants settled the area.

The genus Callophrys consists of butterflies in the family Lycaenidae. It is apparently not monophyletic, but which of the taxa currently considered junior synonyms of Callophrys are valid genera remains to be determined. The Asian and European members of this genus and some North American species are commonly known as green hairstreaks, and the North American species in the subgenus Incisalia are called elfins.

The subfamily Theclinae is a group of butterflies, often referred to as hairstreaks, with some species instead known as elfins or by other names. The group is part of the family Lycaenidae, the "gossamer-winged butterflies". There are many tropical species as well as a number found in the Americas. Tropical hairstreaks often have iridescent blue coloration above, caused by reflected light from the structure of the wing scales rather than by pigment.

Cooper established Elfin Sports Cars in 1959South Australia - Certificate of Registration of a Business Name, Elfin Sports Cars, 19 October 1959 with the help of his father Cliff Cooper. The first Elfin, the Steamliner, was a front-engined sports car.John Blanden & Barry Catford, Australia's Elfin Sports and Racing Cars, Chapter Two, The Steamliner Sports Car, pages 5 to 13 The prototype was completed in October 1959 and was followed by 22 production versions, the last of which was delivered in 1963. Elfin Streamliner 248 Elfins of various models had been completed by 1983.

Individual DF groups are usually based in a town or city, or in some cases a region. DF group meetings usually consist of a group of like minded individuals meeting up at a regular time and place and taking part in usual woodcraft activities such as co-operative games, organising events, workshops and discussions about the Woodcraft Folk's aims and principles and general socialising. DFs also help with the running of the younger groups: Venturers, Pioneers, Elfins, and Woodchips; and are an invaluable asset to many districts. The movement has recently set up the New Roots Fund which aims to give grants to new and in need groups.

Another alternative used during the 1960s and 70s for the Elfin Creed was: > I will grow strong and straight – like the pine; Supple of limb – like the > hare; Keen of eye like the eagle; I will seek health from the greenwood, > Skill from crafts, And wisdom from those who will show me wisdom.

At the time in Australia there was a fuel strike which had grounded the airlines and McCormack, travelling with one of his mechanics, was a passenger in the car when the mechanic fell asleep at the wheel and the car ran off the road and hit a tree. McCormack, who was also asleep at the time, received a crack on the head, a broken left heel and some bruised ribs. His mechanic was seriously injured, though he also survived the accident. The majority of the entry was made up of Lola F5000's of varying ages, with number of locally constructed F5000s including Elfins, a Matich, some older British cars, and a trio of Formula Pacifics (one Ralt RT1, one Galloway HG1 and one March 77B) completing the entry.
