Eidola toured as support on Dance Gavin Dance and CHON's co-headlining tour in North America, with Vasudeva, from February 24 to March 19, 2017. On March 28, 2017, it was announced that Eidola would tour in support of Hail the Sun's headlining U.S. tour with American rock bands Capsize and Limbs, taking place from May 21 to June 24, 2017. On April 28, 2017, Eidola announced their third studio album, entitled To Speak, To Listen, with a scheduled release date of June 2, 2017, on Blue Swan Records. The band revealed that they had recorded with producer Dryw Owens.

The concept of the eidola of the dead was explored in various literature regarding Penelope, who in later works was constantly laboring against the eidola of Clytamnestra and later Helen herself. Homer's use of eidola also extends to the Odyssey where, after the death of the suitors, Theoclymenos notes that he sees the doorway of the court filled with them. In The Mill on the Floss, (1860) by George Eliot, eidolon is used to describe Mr Tulliver's prejudicial image of his antagonist, Mr Wakem; Book Third, Chapter 7. Walt Whitman's poem by the same name in 1876 used a much broader understanding of the term, expanded and detailed in the poem.

In late 2013, the band added guitarist Brandon Bascom to take on live guitar duties to allow Andrew to focus on vocals. Eidola toured briefly on a short-run with American band I, Omega in the United States from December 5 to December 12, 2014. Eidola began writing and recording their second studio album with Dance Gavin Dance guitarist Will Swan and former Dance Gavin Dance guitarist Josh Benton, in 2014. The album was recorded and produced at Pus Cavern Recording Studios in Sacramento, California.

Mark Jansen and Simone Simons said about the track: “The title comes from the ancient Greek for phantom or image, and it’s where the word ‘idol’ comes from. The idea is that after death, it's all that remains of the body.

Mothership was recorded by the band at Interlace Audio Recording Studios in North Portland, Oregon over a two-month period between April and June 2016 with producer Kris Crummett. During the recording sessions for the album, the band sought out and collaborated with other musicians such as Andrew Michael Wells of Eidola, Aric Garcia of Hail the Sun, Martin Bianchini of Secret Band, and former Dance Gavin Dance guitarist Zachary Garren of Strawberry Girls.

The band embarked on a tour with American rock bands CHON and Eidola in February and March, entitled The Robot with Human Hair Vs. Chonzilla Tour. On June 1, 2017, the band released a studio cover of the Bruno Mars single "That's What I Like" on YouTube. On June 15, 2017, they released the stand- alone single "Summertime Gladness." The group toured on the Journey's Right Foot Stage on the Vans Warped Tour from June to August.

"Head Hunter" is a song performed by American rock band Dance Gavin Dance. It was released as a single for digital download and streaming on March 22, 2019, through Rise Records. It serves as a stand-alone single and will not be featured on the group's upcoming ninth studio album, and is the first piece of new music since the band's eighth studio album, Artificial Selection (2018). It was written by the band's vocalists Tilian Pearson and Jon Mess, with the music composed by the band with additional guitar and vocals from Eidola guitarist Andrew Wells.

Icarus the Owl is an American alternative rock band based in Portland, Oregon formed in 2009. The band currently consists of vocalist Joey Rubenstein, lead guitarist Tim Brown, percussionist Rob Bernknopf, and bassist Jake Thomas-Low. The band has self-released 4 studio albums titled The Spotless Mind (2009), Love Always, Leviathan (2012), Icarus the Owl (2014), and Pilot Waves (2015), and one EP titled Qualia (2011). The band has participated on the Vans Warped Tour in 2013 and has toured with bands such as A Lot Like Birds, Hail the Sun, Stolas, Eidola, Artifex Pereo, and The Ongoing Concept.

On November 18, 2019, members Crawford, Afkary and Costa announced that Scary Kids Scaring Kids would be reuniting for one more time for the 15 year anniversary tour of The City Sleeps in Flames release alongside touring members featuring ex-Saosin and Dead American frontman Cove Reber on vocals, Don Vedda on lead guitar and Jordan Flower on bass. The group toured from January 13, to 24, 2020, in partnership with To Write Love On Her Arms. Additional East Coast dates were announced on March 9, 2020 to take place between June 27, and July 12, with support from The Classic Crime, Picturesque, and Eidola.

In ancient Greek literature, an eidolon (plural: eidola or eidolons; Greek εἴδωλον: "image, idol, double, apparition, phantom, ghost") is a spirit-image of a living or dead person; a shade or phantom look-alike of the human form. The concept of Helen of Troy's eidolon was explored both by Homer and Euripides. However, where Homer uses the concept as a free-standing idea that gives Helen life after death, Euripides entangles it with the idea of kleos, one being the product of the other. Both Euripides and Stesichorus, in their respective works concerning the Trojan Horse, claim that Helen was never physically present in the city at all.

Eidola first formed as a four-piece ambient post- hardcore band from Salt Lake City, Utah in 2011, with lead vocalist and guitarist Andrew Michael Wells, screamer and guitarist Matthew Dommer, bass guitarist James Johnson, and drummer Matthew Hansen. The group became well known in the local hardcore punk scene in the Salt Lake City area, eventually garnering an online and local cult following. The band became known for their eclectic amalgamation of math rock, post-rock, metalcore, post-hardcore, and ambient music and their eccentric live concert performances. The band recorded their debut full-length studio album with music engineer Randy Cordner, who produced, mixed and mastered the record.

The album featured collaborations with American musician Joey Lancaster, former A Lot Like Birds bass guitarist Matthew Coate, and musician and saxophonist Nicholas Pope. In support of To Speak, To Listen, the band headlined a North American tour with musical groups The Ongoing Concept and Save Us From The Archon, which took place from August 17 to September 19, 2017. On December 15, 2017, Eidola announced their headlining To Speak, To Listen Tour, with support from rock band Capstan and singer Andrés, which took place from February 8 to March 3, 2018. On the same day, the group released an instrumental version of their third studio album, To Speak, To Listen.

After I had written the music for Eidola, I felt there was something missing so our keyboard player Coen (Janssen) rebuilt it with many new parts and it became massive. He added an orchestra which gives a cinematic feel and we have all these metal riffs going on. It's like a wild roller coaster ride.” The child vocals were provided by Coen Janssen's daughter Cato. The second track on the album is entitled "Edge of the Blade" and Simone has stated: “The music for this one was written by our guitarist Isaac Delahaye, but the lyrics are mine. I’m singing about self-acceptance and about not concentrating too much on the unimportant things in life.

A fragment of 6th century BC pottery has been interpreted as Charon sitting in the stern as steersman of a boat fitted with ten pairs of oars and rowed by eidola (εἴδωλα), shades of the dead. It was produced by Greg Box and Daniel Lea of By the Fireside and features alt-classical singer-songwriter Ana Silvera on piano, as well as Sean King from A sleeper's union/ Eidola records, Dan and James McKean, Ross Palmer, Antonio Papaleo and Russell Parton amongst others (full band list on record sleeve). The album has been favorably compared with the music of Hank Williams, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Tom Waits . In March 2009, Zushi will release Jangadeiros, a collection of home demos and songs recorded at studio sessions on the Italian label Best Kept Secret, which releases albums on audio cassette only. He is currently working on Video Days, the follow-up to Notes for "Holy Larceny".
