The earth pyramids of Platten The earth pyramids of Platten (German: Erdpyramiden von Platten or Erdpyramiden bei Oberwielenbach; ) are earth pyramids located in Platten in the municipality of Percha, near Bruneck in South Tyrol, Italy. The erosion area is located at an altitude of 1550 to 1750 meters. What is so impressive about the pyramids of Platten is their wildness which reminds at the same time also of their fragility. The pyramids of Platten belong to the most beautiful natural monuments of South Tyrol such as the earth pyramids of Ritten and part of the earth pyramids of South Tyrol.

Kuklica is located 8 km northwest from Kratovo. It is known by natural phenomena of characteristic erosive landforms called earth pyramids, earth pillars or stone dolls. These landforms are found on the right side of Kriva River valley, at the 415–420 m above sea level, and extend over an area of 0.3 square kilometres.

Doleni () is a village in the municipality of Sandanski, in Blagoevgrad Province, south-western Bulgaria and as of 2013 has only 3 inhabitants. It is situated at the south-western foothills of the Pirin mountains a few kilometres north of the Melnik Earth Pyramids. Further north is located Pirin National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Doleni lies some 124 km south of the national capital Sofia.

Efforts have been made to slow the erosion in the case of iconic specimens in Wanli. The Awa Sand Pillars in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan are hoodoos made from layers of compacted gravel and sandstone. Đavolja Varoš (Devil's Town) hoodoos in Serbia feature about 200 formations described as earth pyramids or towers by local inhabitants. Since 1959, Đavolja Varoš has been protected by the state.

Stob () is a village in southwest Bulgaria, administratively part of Kocherinovo Municipality, Kyustendil Province. Located at the foot of the Rila mountains and not far from the Rila Monastery, Stob was first mentioned in the 7th century and has been in continuous or near-continuous existence since then. Stob is notable for the Stob Earth Pyramids, a natural rock phenomenon in the vicinity of the village.

Following a cloudburst, a few centuries ago, there came a landslide which cut off the roads connecting the villages in the surroundings of Aschbach. In 1882, again after a heavy cloudburst, a new fault was formed. Following eluviations and erosions these earth pyramids are constantly changing; that is due to the succession of severe cold spells in winter and hot summers which have the effect of continually forming new ones.

The "earth pyramids" Saint-Nicolas consists of a small city center and numerous hamlets or frazioni, locally officially called hameaux (in French). Among the most scenic is Persod, which is protected by the Italian "Belle Arti" laws. It consists of 35 stone houses with slate roofs connected by a thin road not large enough for a car to pass. Today, Persod has only six year-round residents, and about 14 regular weekenders from Milan and Saint-Pierre.

The town of Bansko, situated on the north-eastern slopes of the mountain, has grown to be the primary ski and winter sports centre in the Balkans. A number of settlements at the foothills of Pirin have mineral spring and are spa resorts — Banya, Dobrinishte, Gotse Delchev, Sandanski, etc. Melnik at the south-western foothills of the mountain is Bulgaria's smallest town and is an architectural reserve. Within a few kilometres from the town are the Melnik Earth Pyramids and the Rozhen Monastery.

The main church of the Rila Monastery The abundant mineral springs along the fault lines along the northern foothills of Rila favour health and spa tourism. The most significant spa resorts from west to east are Sapareva Banya with a total discharge of 33 l/sec and temperature of 33–101.4 °С, Belchinski Bani with a total discharge of 24 l/sec and temperature of 40–41.5 °С, Dolna Banya with a total discharge of 22 l/sec and temperature of 56.3 °С and the village of Kostenets with a total discharge of 12 l/sec and temperature of 46–73 °С. Rila has well developed cultural tourism and contains five of the 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria — the Church of Theodore Tyro and Theodore Stratelates in the village of Dobarsko, the Rila Monastery and the Stob Earth Pyramids, the Seven Rila Lakes, the museum of history and the convent in the town of Samokov, and the summit of Musala.
