Originally from Marple, the band started playing together in college. They became Dutch Uncles in April 2008, and in early 2009 released their self- titled debut album in Germany with Tapete Records, recorded at Cloud Hill Studios in Hamburg. The band toured with dananananaykroyd, Bombay Bicycle Club and The Futureheads in 2009 and 2010 and released their UK debut single "The Ink", through independent record label Love & Disaster on 31 May 2010. Soon after, they signed to London label Memphis Industries and released the single "Fragrant" on 1 November 2010. Dutch Uncles' second album entitled Cadenza was released on 25 April 2011.

Shirley Bassey covered the song in her 1996 cover album, The Show Must Go On. Dutch Uncles also covered the song, altering the title "Slave to the Atypical Rhythm," releasing their cover version as a single in conjunction with Record Store Day 2013.

Dutch Uncles are an English indie pop band from Marple, England. They are known for their use of atypical time signatures within a pop context, and the androgynous vocals of frontman Duncan Wallis. Their influences include Kate Bush, King Crimson, Steve Reich, XTC, and Talking Heads.

Cadenza is the second album by the Marple band Dutch Uncles and their first album to receive a release in the UK. It was released on 25 April 2011 as an Audio CD, iTunes digital download and Gatefold vinyl. The album was recorded in Salford in Greater Manchester, England during the summer of 2010.

Paramore guitarist Taylor York cited Dutch Uncles as an inspiration for their 2013 album. The band released their fourth album, O Shudder, on 23 February 2015. They played their biggest headline shows to date at the Koko in London and The Ritz in Manchester in spring 2015. In autumn 2015, the band supported Garbage on the European leg of their 20 Years Queer anniversary tour.

In May 2013, the band released a single, "Motto," and embarked on a tour supporting Dutch Uncles and Marnie Stern. Their third album "Motto" was released 16 September 2013 and a video for "Newsworthy" followed. Following the release of "Motto", Nile Marr and Sam Pryor left the band and Michael Matthews joined on bass. The album cycle concluded with the release of a video for "Carve It Out" in November 2014.

On June 24, 2014, Atlantic released an extended play (EP) featuring the song's radio edit as well as three remixes of the song. Chunk is a venue and worker cooperative specialising in punk rock and DIY culture. It also includes the feminist dance music venue Slut Drop. Beginning as a rehearsal studio in 2013, on the former premises of 309 Studios, Chunk grew to include the record label Voice of Chunk and spaces for graphic design, photography and event promotion. Oporto is a bar and music venue specialising in indie rock, located on Call Lane that has hosted acts such as Viola Beach, Dutch Uncles.

Koningen has lived in Norway, Netherlands, Australia, Dutch Antibes, France, UK, moving his studio from Noosa Heads, Australia to Brugge Belgium in 2005 until the end of 2016. He has now relocated back to Australia. Svein's artist Statement 2019 - 'Creating began for me at the age 4 building a boat at my Dutch uncles Riva Boat factory in Amsterdam. My first gallery visit was age 3, visiting Rembrandt’s Night Watch at the Rijksmuseum… a rather daunting painting for a small child.

Indie band alt=Dutch Uncles performing "Ain't It Fun" was issued as a promotional CD single in the United Kingdom on August 26, 2013. The track was serviced to American mainstream stations on February 4, 2014, serving as Paramores fourth single. In the following month, it was announced that Paramore would participate in the 2014 Record Store Day with the release of a 12-inch single for "Ain't It Fun". The single, designed by Williams to look like a broken vinyl, was released on April 19.

Guitarist Steve Marker later commented: "We're just as surprised to be here now, intact, so many years later, enthusiastically preparing to get back on the road with that album...A big piece of our lives remains caught up in the making of that record, and we know it holds a special place for the fans that have kept us going for so long". Garbage was supported on North American shows by singer/songwriter Torres. Support on all European shows, except Moscow, was provided by indie pop band Dutch Uncles.

The club typically draws support from the wider Chorlton-cum-Hardy area, with a small proportion drawing from the team's historical roots in West Didsbury. In recent times, the team have been noted for their celebrity support, including local indie pop band Dutch Uncles, who launched their fourth album O Shudder at a game in 2014. The band form part of the club's Krombacher Ultras faction who take their name from Krombacher beer, a beverage sold in West Didsbury's clubhouse throughout matches. England international players Marcus Rashford and Izzy Christiansen have also attended West games.

Oasis Bands that have emerged from the Manchester music scene include Van der Graaf Generator, Oasis, The Smiths, Joy Division and its successor group New Order, Buzzcocks, The Stone Roses, The Fall, The Durutti Column, 10cc, Godley & Creme, The Verve, Elbow, Doves, The Charlatans, M People, The 1975, Simply Red, Take That, Dutch Uncles, Everything Everything, Pale Waves and The Outfield. Manchester was credited as the main driving force behind British indie music of the 1980s led by The Smiths, later including The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, and James. The later groups came from what became known as the "Madchester" scene that also centred on The Haçienda nightclub developed by the founder of Factory Records, Tony Wilson. Although from southern England, The Chemical Brothers subsequently formed in Manchester.

The development of the award- winning music festival Summer Sundae with connecting Summer Sundae Fringe Festival (predominantly run by the local arts collective 'Pineapster') focused on blues and folk music may well provide the city with more of a focus for its local bands to break out nationally. Described by Steve Lamacq as 'the Grandson of Glastonbury and sponsored by BBC Radio 6 Music, the festival took place in the city's Victoria Park from 2011 until 2013 and featured headlining acts including Mumford & Sons, Public Image Ltd and McFly. In 2013, organisers including local label Robot Needs Home established the 'Handmade' music festival which included acts such as Rolo Tomassi, Dutch Uncles and Tall Ships in its debut year. Leicester grime artists such as Kamakaze and Jafro have gained some popularity within the scene during the mid-2010s.
