The average Luing cow will give birth to 10 calves in a lifetime because of their longevity. This has been attributed to the traits inherited from their Highland cattle ancestors. They typically have hair of a medium length and a red or dun coloured coat.

The Anambra waxbill is approximately 12 cm long. This species is a dun-coloured finch with reddish brown bill and rump. If looked at closely, it has very fine barring on its upperparts, sides of breast and flanks, with unusual pale eyes. It has a typical waxbill-like tzzzt call.

An attractive, thrush-like bird, the long-tailed mockingbird has a long, elegant tail which it carries at a pert angle whilst on the ground. Its plumage is made up of grey, cappuccino, and dun coloured feathers. The outer tail feathers are broadly tipped white. Its face has been described as harlequin patterned.

Its profile-lines are little interrupted by the carinal tubercles. The protoconch consists of about two glossy, dun-coloured, globose, embryonic whorls. The extreme tip is rounded and slightly bent down on one side. The shell contains 6 short whorls of slow growth, with a longish, drooping, somewhat concave shoulder, angulated below the middle by the row of tubercles, and slightly contracted into the inferior suture.

They also may be grey, seal brown, black, and occasionally bay or a shade of liver chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail. Dun-coloured ponies have primitive markings, which include a dorsal stripe and some show zebra markings on their legs. A transverse shoulder stripe is also often present. Foal coat colours often change and many ponies change colour gradually as they grow older.

The Dark Lady sequence (sonnets 127–152) Shakespeare is the most defiant of the sonnet tradition. The sequence distinguishes itself from the Fair Youth sequence with its overt sexuality (Sonnet 151). The Dark Lady is so called because she has black hair and dun coloured skin. The Dark Lady suddenly appears (Sonnet 127), and she and the speaker of the sonnets, the poet, are in a sexual relationship.

Since the Maharaja had the foresight to bring his project to fruition, he built a railway line to the quarry site to transport the building material. Donkeys were inducted to haul soil to the site. The sandstone transported by rail was dressed at the site into large blocks with interlocking joints so that they could be laid without the use of mortar. The palace was built with "dun-coloured" (golden – yellow) sandstone with two wings.

They did not recognise dun coloured Galloway cattle, which was met with outrage and this ban was later lifted. In 1951, Galloway cattle were introduced to Australia. In the 1950s the breed enjoyed much success because the beef market demanded low input (feed) cattle with high quality meat. However, the BSE crisis (commonly referred to as mad cow disease) caused an export ban in 1990, although there were no cases of BSE found in Galloway cattle.

The Gaelic name is translated as 'grey-green mountain', which refers to the colour of the mica- schist that makes up the bulk of the mountain and that falls as a scree on its south-western side. The path up the mountain leads past outcrops of this rock that also reveal large garnets. As mentioned above, the usual route to the summit leaves from the car park, follows Edramucky Burn, and climbs to the south-western ridge of the mountain. The deep corrie of Coire Odhar (the dun- coloured corrie) lies to the north.

The Shire of Banana is a local government area located in the Capricorn region of Queensland, Australia, inland from the regional city of Gladstone. The shire was named after the first township in the region (Banana), which in turn was named for the burial site of a huge dun coloured bullock named 'Banana'. The council sits in the town of Biloela, which is the largest town in the Shire. Major industries in the shire include coal mining, beef production, power generation, dryland cropping and irrigation cropping such as lucerne and cotton.

The name Banana does not relate to the fruit, but rather the area was named after a dun-coloured bullock called Banana. On 20 April 1881 part of Banana Division was separated to create Duaringa Division. With the passage of the Local Authorities Act 1902, Banana Division became Shire on Banana on 31 March 1903.

Once feathers begin to erupt, the nestlings are unusual for altricial birds in having plumage coloured with carotenoids similar to their parents (in most species it is dun-coloured to avoid predation). The nape is yellow and attracts the attention of the parents by its ultraviolet reflectance. This may be to make them easier to find in low light, or be a signal of fitness to win the parents' attention. This patch turns white after the first moult at age two months, and diminishes in size as the bird grows.

Stob a' Choire Odhair reaches a height of and is classed as a Munro and a Marilyn is an unpretentious mountain that is overshadowed by its near neighbour Stob Ghabhar, one of the finest mountains in the southern highlands. It stands in the Black Mount deer forest, an area that derives its name from the dark peat hags of the moorland that surround the mountain. Stob a' Choire Odhair along with Stob Ghabhar are well seen from the A82 road as it crosses the western end of Rannoch Moor and they are often climbed together and make a natural days walk. The hills name translates from the Gaelic as "Peak of the dun-coloured corrie".

Gangalu (Gangulu, Kangulu, Kanolu, Kaangooloo, Khangulu) is an Australian Aboriginal language spoken on Gangula country. The Gangula language region includes the towns of Clermont and Springsure extending south towards the Dawson River. The station property of Banana was gazetted in 1855, and an 1859 map shows a police station marked on the planned site for Banana. The grassy, steep, conical shape of Beinn Odhar is a well-known sight for vehicles travelling on the A82 road and for walkers on the West Highland Way, both of which pass on the immediate western side of the mountain. Beinn Odhar stands four km south of the Munro Beinn Dorain, both mountains being similar in shape and character and the possibility of confusing the two peaks by a cursory glance is not impossible. Beinn Odhar is part of the “Auch Corbetts”, a group of five Corbetts which can be climbed in a single days walk from the hamlet of Auch (grid reference ) on the A82. This is a rare situation as the Corbetts are usually difficult to combine in any number and the opportunity to climb five in a natural round is unique."Climbing The Corbetts" Page 69 “This is probably the only day … which can produce five ticks”. The hills name translates from the Gaelic language as “Dun coloured mountain”, this alludes to the brownish- grey colour of the heather and grass on the hill.
