The music video, featuring footage from the Dolly & Friends: The Making of a Soundtrack special, was released on November 26. On November 25, Parton began posting 15-second snippets of songs from the album on Twitter, beginning with "Why". This was followed by "Two Doors Down" on November 26, "If We Don't" on November 27, and "Dumb Blonde" on November 28.
Despite the publicity for her performance in both films, neither did much to advance her acting career. Smith's persona of a ditzy dumb blonde was compressed heavily in her film roles, which sought only to market her physical assets. In an attempt to earn acting respect, Smith agreed to appear in To the Limit (1995), her first starring role. Smith appeared as herself in the 1995 pilot episode of The Naked Truth, then attempted to revitalize her film career with a leading role in Skyscraper in 1996.
Originally billed as Gypsy Stell, Coates was allegedly discovered in 1943 by vaudeville comedian Ken Murray in a Hollywood and Vine restaurant from whom she learned comic timing. She subsequently appeared as a dancer and a comedienne in skits for ten months in Blackouts, his "racy" (mildly risqué) variety show. Along with Murray and other comedians, the show included showgirls, tap dancers, bird acts and Marie Wilson as the stereotypical "dumb blonde". She later performed as one of Earl Carroll's showgirls at his Earl Carroll Theatre.
Three of the album's 12 tracks are solo Parton compositions and seven of them were co-written with her uncle, Bill Owens. The two remaining tracks, "Dumb Blonde" and "I've Lived My Life", were written by Curly Putman and Lola Jean Dillon, respectively. The album contains Parton's version of three songs she had written that had already been hits for other artists. "Put It Off Until Tomorrow" had been recorded by Bill Phillips (with uncredited harmony vocals by Parton) and released as a single in January 1966.
My Hustler is a 1965 American film by Andy Warhol. The film is propelled by the sonorous, magnetic acting of then-30-year old Ed Hood interacting with the dumb blonde Hustler, Paul America. Joe Campbell ("Sugar Plum Fairy"), Genevieve Charbin and Dorothy Dean also compete for the attentions of the Hustler and provide foils for the interaction of the main characters. The erudite and very funny Hood, a perpetual graduate student in English at Harvard and "live parody of southern gentility" Watson, p.
Brite Side is a 1989 song by the American singer-songwriter Deborah Harry, taken from her third solo album, Def, Dumb & Blonde. The single was only released in the UK, where it peaked at #59. Nelson Crandal, a cartoonist, has been traumatized by an accident and is unable to draw. He decides to discontinue his newspaper feature called Mr. Rumple, but the Rumple character comes to life and objects to being canceled and condemned to Oblivia (the land of forgotten cartoon characters). Rumple has 48 hours to persuade his creator to continue his existence and uses magical tricks on the humans. Anna is another character in the comic strip, Rumple's dumb-blonde girlfriend, who is trying to avoid Oblivia.
Turid-Laila (English: Tammy-Sue) is a desirable blonde who works as a bartender at the local pub, which Pondus and Jokke have frequented since the beginning of the strip. Her manner of dealing with slobbering drunks and gawking creeps is quite impressive. She is also a source of calculated punchlines, affirming that she is no dumb blonde. Jokke was for a while roommates with Turid-Laila, and several times sabotaged her romantic life, until he got together with Camilla and moved in with her.
She lets them stay for the night until they decide to go on holiday. The holiday resort to which they go is called Rabbit Cove, which Beauty chooses due to her love of rabbits. They find their way to an idyllic seaside resort run by a kind older man named Mike, a painter who takes Dilly on as a breakfast chef in his B&B.; Dilly decides to let Gerry know where they are, despite Beauty's objections, but after he shouts at her and calls her a "useless aging dumb blonde" she terminates the call.
She is in pursuit of Ryoko until they both crash-land on Earth. Unlike her OAV counterpart, who still is dedicated and competent despite her ditziness, Mihoshi is the comic relief and a "dumb blonde" whose constant bumbling and blunders would often cause trouble for the group (especially for Kiyone and Washu). One of her classic mistakes is when a single hair from her scalp was able to transfer her personality into Mecha Washu. Tenchi in Tokyo In Tenchi in Tokyo, Mihoshi is once again partnered with Kiyone.
Carmel Valentine (also McQueen) is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Gemma Merna. She debuted on-screen during episodes airing on 13 August 2006 and was introduced by series producer Bryan Kirkwood as part of the McQueen family. Carmel has proved popular with fans with her comedic personality and has become notable for her "dumb blonde" appearance. Carmel was killed-off as she saved her cousin, Theresa McQueen (Jorgie Porter) from Sonny Valentine (Aaron Fontaine) during the "End of the Line" storyline.
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) Marilyn Monroe (1926–1962) was an American actress who appeared in 29 films between 1946 and 1961. After a brief career in modeling she signed short-term film contracts, first with 20th Century Fox, then Columbia Pictures, and appeared in minor roles for the first few years of her career. In 1950, she made minor appearances in two critically acclaimed films, The Asphalt Jungle and All About Eve. The parts in the two films were against many of the roles into which she was typecast, that of the dumb blonde.
Mansfield, Monroe and Barbara Windsor have been described as representations of a historical juncture of sexuality in comedy and popular culture. Academics also added Anita Ekberg and Bettie Page to the list of catalysts of the trend of exaggerated female sexuality, along with Mansfield and Monroe. M. Thomas Inge describes Mansfield, Monroe and Jane Russell as personifications of the bad girl in popular culture. Judy Holliday and Goldie Hawn are also identified to have established the stereotype of the "dumb blonde", typified by their combination of overt sexuality, and apparent inability to understand everyday life.
Snow Day is a 2000 American comedy film, directed by Chris Koch and produced by Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies. It premiered on January 29, 2000, and was theatrically released on February 11, 2000, becoming the first film of the 2000s made by Paramount. The film was met with generally negative reviews, but was a box office success, and Hoku's "Another Dumb Blonde" became the biggest chart smash of her career. It was released on home video on October 3, 2000, and re-released on September 26, 2017.
There is a category of jokes called "blonde jokes" that employs the dumb blonde stereotype. It overlaps at times with other jokes that portray the subject of the joke as promiscuous and/or stupid. Some blonde jokes rely on sexual humour to portray or stereotype their subjects as promiscuous.Karen Ross, The Handbook of Gender, Sex and Media, chapter 6, John Wiley & Sons, 2011, Many of these are rephrased sorority girl or Essex girl jokes, much as other jokes about dumb blondes are based on long-running ethnic jokes.
Chrissy's personality was an exaggerated characterization of the "dumb blonde" stereotype, as evidenced by her repeated confusion and misunderstandings, malapropisms, and girlish behavior. Chrissy is depicted as being quick to laugh at her own jokes, and quick to cry in an exaggerated, whining fashion (as a young child would do). Chrissy's behavior was reflected somewhat by her cousin, and eventual replacement, Cindy Snow, although Cindy was more klutzy, and less dim. Chrissy is modeled as an ingenue, a minister's daughter who seeks her fortune in the big city.
After her composition "Put It Off Until Tomorrow", as recorded by Bill Phillips (with Parton, uncredited, on harmony), went to number six on the country chart in 1966, the label relented and allowed her to record country. Her first country single, "Dumb Blonde" (composed by Curly Putman, one of the few songs during this era that she recorded but did not write), reached number 24 on the country chart in 1967, followed by "Something Fishy", which went to number 17. The two songs appeared on her first full-length album, Hello, I'm Dolly.
"Kiss It Better" is a single from Deborah Harry's third solo album, Def, Dumb & Blonde in 1989. The single peaked at number 12 on the US Modern Rock chart, riding the wave of success built by Harry's previous single, "I Want That Man". Though never released commercially, a promo found its way to many college radio stations, hence the song charting so much lower than the previous one. The single was also not released in the UK. "Sweet and Low"/"Kiss It Better" was released as a double A-side single in Australia in 1990.
"I Want That Man" is a 1989 song recorded by the American singer Deborah Harry. The song was released as the lead single from her third solo album, Def, Dumb & Blonde and was the first record Harry released in which she reverted to using Deborah as her name instead of Debbie. It became a hit in several territories, reaching number two in Australia and on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. The single also became a top-twenty hit in Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Against Brian's express wishes, Stewie leaks the relationship onto the Internet, resulting in a media circus and the claim that Lauren is a dumb blonde. Attempting to break off the relationship, Brian realizes that Lauren is a well-educated, articulate and rather accomplished woman who hides her intelligence from the public as American society derides intelligent women. In fact, she is one of the most intelligent women he has ever met. Brian invites her for dinner with the family, where Peter and Meg become interested in her accomplishments while Lois isn't fond of her lectures.
Blonde jokes are a joke cycle based on a stereotype of a dumb blonde woman. These jokes about people, generally women, who have blonde hair serve as a form of blonde versus brunette rivalry. They are often considered to be derogatory as many are mere variants on traditional ethnic jokes or jests about other identifiable groups that would be considered more offensive (such as Italian jokes involving Carabinieri). In some cases, jokes about stereotypically stupid people have circulated since the seventeenth century with only the wording and targeted groups changed.
To win a birthday party for Steve, housemates had to talk through puppets of themselves for a period of time on Day 19. Dave, Shabby and Sunshine were nominated on Day 20, but Dave saved himself by winning the task "Your Face on TV", where they had to slide the pieces of a jumbled up picture of their face so as to unjumble them. Dave replaced himself with Caoimhe. Housemates celebrated International Joke Day for their shopping task by taking on various joke stereotypes, including a dumb blonde and an Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman.
Deciding to go on a date with a hot but dumb blonde, Brian soon discovers he is dating "an idiot." Brian returns home depressed, and Lois tells him that he's too picky when it comes to the women he dates. Lois suggests that Brian go with Peter, Quagmire and Cleveland to a laser rock concert, but while there, Brian begins looking around the theater at all of the loving couples and becomes even more depressed, eventually deciding to begin drinking. On the drive home with the guys, he is soon pulled over by Joe and arrested for driving under the influence.
Simpson's father pitched an idea to MTV about a reality show starring the couple, resulting in the creation of Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. The series initially focused on the marriage between Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley, though the two backed out, thus allowing Simpson and Lachey to replace them. The show, which primarily focused on the couple's marriage and the recording of Simpson's third studio album, premiered on August 19, 2003. The show instantly became a pop culture phenomenon, with Simpson's perceived "dumb blonde" antics on the show helping to make the couple a household name.
The term has been made popular in other Latin American countries due to international popularity of TV shows with fresa characters. In Venezuela there is another word for the same people, which is "cotufa", which literally means popcorn. Supposedly, the reason for this term is due to the comparison of "one's brain to a piece of popcorn", but this term has its differences from the word "fresa". The term "cotufa" is actually more like the "dumb blonde" trope, but in Venezuela hair color is not a deciding factor as people with other hair colors may also have similar traits.
While at RADA she was seen in a production of Lady Windermere's Fan and recommended to Val Guest who was looking for a girl to play in support of comedian Frankie Howerd in The Runaway Bus (1954). (Eric and Blanche Glass were the ones who spotted her, according to one account.) According to the New York Times she was the "seventy-seventh" girl to audition for the role and her casting was announced in September 1953. Lee played a dumb blonde and later said "I really was dumb too – didn't know where the camera was half the time." For a time she shared a flat with Anna Kashfi.
Monroe continued to attract attention by wearing revealing outfits, most famously at the Photoplay awards in January 1953, where she won the "Fastest Rising Star" award. She wore a skin-tight gold lamé dress, which prompted veteran star Joan Crawford to publicly call her behavior "unbecoming an actress and a lady". While Niagara made Monroe a sex symbol and established her "look", her second film of 1953, the satirical musical comedy Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, cemented her screen persona as a "dumb blonde". Based on Anita Loos' novel and its Broadway version, the film focuses on two "gold-digging" showgirls played by Monroe and Jane Russell.
Monroe was also briefly hospitalized due to a barbiturate overdose. As she and Greene could not settle their disagreements over MMP, Monroe bought his share of the company. With Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in Billy Wilder's Some Like It Hot (1959), for which she won a Golden Globe Monroe returned to Hollywood in July 1958 to act opposite Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis in Billy Wilder's comedy on gender roles, Some Like It Hot. She considered the role of Sugar Kane another "dumb blonde", but accepted it due to Miller's encouragement and the offer of ten percent of the film's profits on top of her standard pay.
Christopher Hahn unfavorably compared Dirty Linen with Stoppard's earlier short plays The Real Inspector Hound and After Magritte, writing that it "establishes no special relationship with the audience, nor does it make use of particular theatrical conventions, or even parody to any great extent the genre of the sex farce, surely fruitful ground for Stoppard's ironic talent. Instead, the play is a fairly straightforward duplication of a recognisable type, with the slight difference that assumptions about the dumb blonde usually prominent in this kind of play are overturned". However, Hahn praised New-Found-Land for its "clever manipulation of props" and its "conciseness and economy".
He voiced early on a desire to executive producer Ted Kotcheff that Cassidy not be made into the "dumb blonde" of the unit because he did not believe there would be any in the Special Victims Unit. Cassidy's character did not see much development, but Winters attributed this to the lack of time the character was on the show. His character appeared during the first half of the first season, when the writers were trying to flesh out all of the characters on the show. Had he remained on the show longer, Winters believed that the writers would have found much more for Cassidy to do.
Parton has composed over 5,000 songs throughout her career. The total number of individual song titles she has recorded and released is 956, totaling over 1,100 individual recordings when studio recordings, remixes, and live tracks are combined. After releasing two unsuccessful singles as a teenager, Parton signed a recording contract with Monument Records in 1964, and moved to Nashville, Tennessee shortly afterward, releasing a series of singles on the label, the highest charting being her 1965 single "Happy, Happy Birthday Baby". In September 1967, Monument released Parton's debut solo album, Hello, I'm Dolly, which contained the hits "Dumb Blonde" and "Something Fishy", which reached No. 24 and No. 17 respectively.
On December 7, 2018, Lavigne revealed the final tracklist for her sixth studio album, Head Above Water, that included a solo song titled "Dumb Blonde" as the track number five. On February 7, 2019, the album's track listing on Amazon was updated, confirming that the song features American rapper Nicki Minaj. In fact, the song was 26-seconds longer than when it first originally appeared on music platforms (3:08 to 3:34) – which suggests that Minaj's verse was added in the last minute. That day, Lavigne teased the track by unveiling a nine-second long snippet along with a statement detailing themes that inspired the concept.
Jayne Mansfield in Kiss them for me. She modeled her image as a highly memorable dumb blonde.Nicholas Yapp, 1960s: decades of the 20th century, page 135, Könemann, 1998, ISBN 9783829005234Boze Hadleigh, Celebrity Feuds!: The Cattiest Rows, Spats, and Tiffs Ever Recorded, page 151, Taylor Publishing Company, 1999, ISBN 9780878332441Brie Dyas, A Tribute To Jayne Mansfield, A Blonde Stunner Who Was Smarter Than You Thought, HuffPost, 2013-04-18 The notion of "dumb blonde" has been a topic of academic research reported in scholarly articles and university symposia, which tend to confirm that many people hold to the perception that light-haired women are less intelligent than women with dark hair.
In 1950, when Lewis was hired by Jerry Lester for NBC's first late-night show Broadway Open House (1950–51), he renamed her Dagmar. Lester devised the name as a satirical reference following the huge success on television of the TV series Mama (1949–57), in which the younger sister, Dagmar Hansen, was portrayed by Robin Morgan. As Dagmar, Lewis was instructed to wear a low-cut gown, sit on a stool, and play the role of a stereotypical dumb blonde. With tight sweaters displaying the 5' 8" Lewis' curvy 42"-23"-39" figure her dim-bulb character was an immediate success, soon attracting much more attention than Lester.
Monroe's screen persona focused on her blonde hair and the stereotypes that were associated with it, especially dumbness, naïveté, sexual availability and artificiality. She often used a breathy, childish voice in her films, and in interviews gave the impression that everything she said was "utterly innocent and uncalculated", parodying herself with double entendres that came to be known as "Monroeisms". For example, when she was asked what she had on in the 1949 nude photo shoot, she replied, "I had the radio on". Monroe portrayed a sexually attractive and naïve "dumb blonde" in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)In her films, Monroe usually played "the girl", who is defined solely by her gender.
Thereafter, Foster worked mainly with country musicians. He played a significant role in Dolly Parton's early career, signing her to Monument in 1964, shortly after her arrival in Nashville, and overseeing her recordings, culminating with her first top-40 country hit, "Dumb Blonde", in 1967. Foster also produced recordings by Willie Nelson, Ray Stevens, Kris Kristofferson, Tony Joe White, Larry Gatlin, Charlie McCoy, Al Hirt, Boots Randolph, Jeannie Seely, Jerry Byrd, Billy Joe Shaver, Grandpa Jones, the Velvets, and Robert Mitchum. Foster suggested to Kris Kristofferson the title and theme of "Me and Bobby McGee", which became a hit for Kristofferson, Roger Miller, and Janis Joplin, and for which Foster received a co-writing credit.
Marge's attempt to comfort her fails after buying a book, which did little to lift Lisa's spirits telling her to accept the stereotype. She hears Bart make comments against blondes even though Bart himself is blonde. When she calls him out for being prejudice against blondes, Bart defends himself by pointing out how the dumb blonde-stereotype mostly just applies to women and girls, while men and boys with blonde hair are expected to be evil and conniving rather than unintelligent. In a moment of kindness, Bart admits that he knows Lisa is the only exception to the blonde stereotype and this was his way of encouraging her to continue her fight against it.
Writing for The Guardian, Nosheen Iqbal stated that Peterson had made "broad generalisations on male and female behaviour" and that he denied the existence of the gender pay gap "as a qualitative fact". Channel 4 News editor Ben de Pear said that the station had called in security specialists in response to social-media abuse and threats directed against her. Newman later shared that the abuse ranged from "cunt, bitch, dumb blonde" to "I’m going to find out where you live and execute you." Peterson had told his followers to "back off" of Newman, but later denied that there was any evidence of threats, and stated that the idea that the abuse was driven by misogyny was "ridiculous".
The album draws inspiration from Lavigne's battle with Lyme disease, with her describing the album as an "emotional journey". The title track was released as the lead single from the album in September 2018, followed by "Tell Me It's Over" as the second single in December, "Dumb Blonde" as the third single the week of the album's release, a collaboration with rapper Nicki Minaj and "I Fell in Love with the Devil" as the fourth single in June. The album became her sixth consecutive album to chart in the top five of Lavigne's home country, Canada. In support of the album, Lavigne embarked on a concert tour named the Head Above Water Tour, starting on September 14.
The new series will showcase her real life more closely and will not be a part of the My New BFF franchise. Hilton has emphasized she no longer wishes to "play the dumb blonde character" she portrayed herself as in My New BFF and The Simple Life, suggesting that the My New BFF franchise is finished for the foreseeable future. Later, Hilton went on to clarify that it's "probable" that her BFFs from each series will all be brought together, for a "showdown series" of sorts. While emphasising that other countries across the world have still asked her to film further versions, she's said "I've really enjoyed doing it, but I have enough BFFs".
It is implied that the officers are talking military secrets, on the (wrongful) assumption that the woman is only a "dumb blonde" and so will not pass these secrets onto the enemy. The campaign was issued in 1942 to all ranks, with this particular image intended for messes and other places where officers met. At the end of May, Advertiser's Weekly noted that "sex appeal" had been introduced in the form of a beautiful spy, whom they insisted on "christening Olga Polovsky after the famous song." In June 1941 they further noted that, having covered public house talk, wayside conversations with strangers, and "harmless chat" with friends when on leave, the government believed they had identified "the major problem" at last.
Kelly Bundy (Christina Applegate) is the older child in the Bundy family, born November 27, 1972Noted in "Every Bundy Has a Birthday" or sometime before February 19.As noted in "Judy Turns 300," where Kelly says her birthday is in February, but erroneously refers to herself as an "Aquarium" (instead of an Aquarius). "Pumpkin," as Al often calls her, is promiscuous and physically attractive, tends to hang out with "slacker" guys, and exemplifies the stereotypical "dumb blonde". Al is annoyed by Kelly's promiscuity and tends to treat her various love interests with a combination of derision and violence; in numerous episodes, he leads them to the front door, feigning friendliness, only to walk them head-first into the wall before tossing them out the door.
During another chat with Gabriela and Rodrigo França (both Afro-Brazilians), Paula suggested that "'dumb blonde' jokes can be equated with racism" and asked their opinions on racial quotas in college, claiming that such quotas are a form of discrimination. Finally, she shared her thoughts about the meaning of "black humor": "It's when you pick up a black person and start joking about her. That's black humor". In a private conversation with Diego and Hariany, Paula threw a shade at her fellow housemates Gabriela, Hana Khalil and Rízia Cerqueira's political beliefs: "These feminists don't want to have a discussion, they just want to talk, thinking they're right in everything, we have to be very careful about what we say around them".
Glory-Bee is a slender, pretty, blonde, and young dognose lady who, while quite good-natured and likable, tends to be somewhat of an "airhead" (a stereotype of the "dumb blonde"), which may explain why she was dropped from Goofy's storyline altogether (though a better possibility is that Goofy will always be the consummate bachelor). While it might be difficult to imagine she had a very strong crush on Goofy, he hardly seemed to notice. Occasionally, however, he did try to impress her, even to the point of trying to reveal his Super Goof identity to her, to no avail. At one point Glory-Bee and Clarabelle Cow were even vying for Goofy's attention, but both failed to achieve their objective (WDS #8).
She faced a scandal when it was revealed that she had posed for nude photos before she became a star, but the story did not damage her career and instead resulted in increased interest in her films. By 1953, Monroe was one of the most marketable Hollywood stars; she had leading roles in the film noir Niagara, which focused on her sex appeal, and the comedies Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire, which established her star image as a "dumb blonde". The same year, her nude images were used as the centerfold and on the cover of the first issue of Playboy. She played a significant role in the creation and management of her public image throughout her career, but she was disappointed when she was typecast and underpaid by the studio.
I laughed frequently throughout, I thought both of the major storylines mostly made sense and concluded well, and I enjoyed some of the ways the episode turned satire on its ear. I particularly liked the idea of Lisa conforming by becoming a brunette after everyone made fun of her for being a blonde. Dumb blonde jokes are as old as time itself, but the way the episode turned the whole thing into a sly parody of diversity and conformity was winning." Ariel Ponywhether of FireFox News gave the episode an A, remarked that "the episode is one of the better outings of the season" and concluded "There were some very slight characterization flaws, which detract slightly from the grade, as does the well-written but underdeveloped Lisa subplot.
Eventually, the boys get into a fight and seem to permanently turn into cavemen. Meanwhile, Bebe, worried that boys might never take her seriously (as happened to her mother, a stereotypical dumb blonde), consults a plastic surgeon about breast reduction surgery; however, he rejects the proposition because he considers breast reduction "insane" (which is made apparent especially after giving contrasting personalities to two female colleagues: one with large breasts, and the other flat-chested). He then tells her that if she wants them bigger, "now might be the time to size up"; Bebe leaves his office in frustration and disgust. Similarly when Wendy asks for a breast implant he accepts her request, but only after she announces she has three thousand dollars in cash, despite her mother's protest that she is too young.
On the sitcom Three's Company, the character Chrissy Snow played by Suzanne Somers played off a variety of stereotypes including the "dumb blonde", but also as daughter of Reverend Luther Snow (Peter Mark Richman), the character – as well as much of the show's humor – was developed around aspects of Chrissy's innocence and naïvety based on a stereotype of her religious upbringing in small town America. The TV series 7th Heaven is also a good example of the pastor's kid stereotype. The Camden family father, Eric (Stephen Collins), is a minister, and he and his wife Annie (Catherine Hicks) have seven children. Sometimes they are perfect angels but most of the time the show displays the trials that the family go through as the children grow up, and often the children are criticized because of who their father is.
Yuri had to somehow let the boy know that what he was in love with was a doll and not a real person... which ultimately proved to be her undoing at the end of the story, for Julian fell in love with a girl who had been trying to get through to him but he was too obsessed with the android Yuri at the time. : ; Lily : Lily was Yuri's temporary partner, who was assigned to her when Kei had quit the 3WA for a brief time. Her personality that seems to mirror Yuri, but even more to the extreme, to the point of appearing as the stereotypical dumb blonde. During her first mission, Lily attempted to use one of Yuri's known tactics to get out of the mission, only to be scolded by Yuri herself and ruined a stakeout.
Suzanne Somers on the in 1981, shortly after her departure from Three's Company Somers was cast in the ABC sitcom Three's Company in January 1977. After actresses Suzanne Zenor and Susan Lanier did not impress producers during the first two test pilots, Somers was suggested by ABC president Fred Silverman, who had seen her on the Tonight Show and she was auditioned and hired the day before the taping of the third and final pilot officially commenced. She portrayed Chrissy Snow, a stereotypical dumb blonde, who was employed as an office secretary. The series co-starred John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt in a comedy of errors about two single women living with a single man who pretends to be gay in order to bypass the landlord's policy prohibiting single men sharing an apartment with single women.
After releasing two unsuccessful singles as a teenager, Parton signed a recording contract with Monument Records in 1964, and moved to Nashville, Tennessee shortly afterward, releasing a series of singles on the label, the highest charting being her 1965 single "Happy Happy Birthday Baby". In 1967, Monument released Parton's debut solo album, Hello, I'm Dolly, which spawned the hits, "Dumb Blonde" and "Something Fishy", which reached number 24 and number 17 respectively. In September 1967, Parton was asked to replace country vocalist Norma Jean as the co-host of the syndicated country music television show The Porter Wagoner Show, alongside country star Porter Wagoner. The pair recorded 12 albums together for RCA Victor, and in the late 1960s and early 1970s had a series of top 10 hits on the country charts, including "The Last Thing on My Mind", "Tomorrow Is Forever", and "Daddy Was an Old Time Preacher Man".
Upon its release, the album elicited generally favorable reviews from music critics. Stephen Thomas Erlewine, writing for AllMusic, deemed Hoku and "Album Pick" and awarded it three out of five stars, commending the fact that the album "never tries to sound wiser than its years and it never seems to pander to commercial concerns. Sure, it's commercial -- that's what teen pop is all about -- but never once do the record makers decide to push Hoku as a nymphet," comparing her to Jewel and concluding that the album is a "winning debut". A review in Spin, penned by Joshua Glover, gave the album a score of seven out of 10 and commenting that "the album's as empty as a Buddhist monk and way more fun," criticizing "You First Believed" as "craptastic" but singling out "How Do I Feel (The Burrito Song)" as a highlight and likening the Vocoder on "Another Dumb Blonde" to that on Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville.
While there is no evidence that suggests that blondes are less intelligent than other people, it has been suggested that the state of being blond creates opportunities that do not require investing in education and training."Despite the Dumb Jokes, Stereotypes May Reflect Some Smart Choices" It is believed the first recorded "dumb blonde" was an 18th- century blonde French courtesan named Rosalie Duthé whose reputation of being beautiful and dumb, even in the literal sense of not talking much, inspired a play about her called Les Curiosités de la Foire (Paris 1775). A possible explanation is that attractive women have less pressing incentives to cultivate and demonstrate their intellect to ensure their future, since attractiveness is an asset, or correlatively that intelligent women have less pressing incentives to dye their hair to a presumed attractive color. The validity of this explanation is corroborated by its applicability to a similar pervasiveness of the "dumb athlete" stereotype.
Jennifer was famous for being the opposite of the "dumb blonde" stereotype that pervaded television in the late '70s; she is extremely smart and shrewd, and somewhat resentful of the fact that people assume she is dumb based solely on the way she looks. (That is played to humorous effect when Andy convinces all station employees to fool a "program doctor" by acting 180 degrees of their true personality.) Her strength and self-possession make her seem almost superhumanly competent. Almost, but not quite. In the episode "Ask Jennifer," she takes over as the host of a call-in advice show, using her intelligence and knowledge to give easy, offhand answers to all her callers' questions, but she doesn't think enough about the potential consequences of the advice she gives, and when a woman is beaten by her controlling husband as a result of taking her advice to stand up to him, a distraught and guilt-ridden Jennifer quits the show.
The satirical comedy focuses on the effect talking pictures have on the entertainment industry. When the New York City vaudevillean team of Jerry Hyland, May Daniels, and George Lewis find themselves in a faltering vaudeville act, they decide to head west and present themselves as elocution experts in the hope someone will hire them to train actors unaccustomed to speaking on screen. On the train they meet gossip columnist Helen Hobart, who introduces them to megalomaniac film mogul Herman Glogauer when they arrive in Hollywood. The trio's misadventures include encounters with Lawrence Vail, a New York City playwright driven to distraction and eventually a sanatorium by studio bureaucracy and a lack of work to keep him busy; silent screen beauties Phyllis Fontaine and Florabel Leigh, whose voices sound like nails on a blackboard; two pages in 18th-century dress who periodically arrive carrying placards with announcements about Glogauer's latest doings; a ditzy receptionist who wears an evening gown to work; and aspiring actress (and proverbial dumb blonde) Susan Walker and her chaperoning stage mother.
Artists such as Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Cheap Trick, Debbie Harry and Earth, Wind & Fire featured on the soundtrack. Presumably, due to the film's limited release and the fact that the artists were under contract to different record labels, a proper album was never issued, although a promotional cassette was given to the press featuring nine songs from the movie. The only songs to be commercially released are three by Cheap Trick, which were issued in their 1996 boxed set Sex, America, Cheap Trick, as well as Earth, Wind and Fire's sole contribution entitled Dance, Dance, Dance, which was released as a digital single in 2012, and Iggy Pop's "Pain and Suffering", which finally surfaced as a bonus track on the 2019 re-release of his album Zombie Birdhouse (an entirely different recording of the song was included on the album's 1991 reissue). Additionally, Debbie Harry revised the lyrics to "Angel's Song" and retitled it "Maybe for Sure", which was featured on her 1989 album Def, Dumb & Blonde.
