She was trying to turn north to put her stern to the heavy northerly swell and was taking water at the bow. There was little that Glasgow could do to assist the larger ship as the moonlight illuminated both ships and the Germans were searching for them.
Due to his poor grasp of English at the time, he ended up inadvertently converting to the faith. Shiro has dueled vampires in both the Black Court and the secretive Jade Court, and he agrees to serve as Harry's second in the duel against Don Paolo Ortega. However, he urges Harry to avoid the fight if at all possible, saying that the duel can be called off if both parties decide not to go ahead with it. Later, when Harry is taken prisoner by Nicodemus, Shiro secures his release by offering to remain in his place for one day.

Zambrano lost the role as the Chicago Cubs opening day starter to Ryan Dempster, but did record a quality start in his first outing as the Cubs number 2 starter going 6-plus innings and giving up three runs. He also experienced some cramps in this game, which led to a premature exit even though he had thrown 99 pitches. In his 4th start of the year, Zambrano dueled the San Diego Padres Tim Stauffer and pitched 8 scoreless innings at Wrigley Field. He displayed better than average control, giving up just one walk and striking out 10 with 3 hits.

Then, the day after Christmas, he was the leading gun in one of the most lopsided aerial battles in World War I. As he himself described it in a magazine article he penned for Nel Cielo, his airfield was attacked by ten enemy bombers. He shot down one of the bombers in flames at 9 AM. He then dueled with another for twenty minutes before it crashed. The observer leapt from the wreckage and lit it on fire to deny its capture. Unfortunately, the observer managed to catch his own clothing on fire in the process.

Owner-breeder Warren B. Williamson commented on the race, "I don't know if you'd call it a conspiracy, but it looked like it. They tried everything to beat her and it didn't work. She was gone." The 4-year-old returned to the turf for the GI Yellow Ribbon Stakes at Santa Anita Park's Oak Tree meet on Sept 29 for a win against the slimly favored Citronnade. It was the second of Watson's eight major championships, and he won a second Masters in 1981. The pair again dueled for a major title in the final round in July in Scotland, at the Open Championship at Turnberry, also won by Watson. Although he had won a major in 1975 and led the PGA Tour in season earnings entering this Masters, Watson had been labeled a "choker" early in his pro career, known for relinquishing leads in the final round of majors and regular events. Notable among these was the U.S. Open in 1974 at Winged Foot; his win here and in Scotland put that to rest.
Nyquist in the starting gate at the Kentucky Derby Nyquist began his three-year-old season on February 15 in the San Vicente Stakes at seven furlongs. Because of the shorter distance, the San Vincente is not part of the official Road to the Kentucky Derby, so is no longer commonly entered by Derby contenders. However, using a sprint to begin Nyquist's preparation was a throwback to the training methods of decades past. Going off as 2–5 favorite, Nyquist dueled for the lead with Sheikh of Sheikhs in a fast opening half mile of 44.49, then pulled away coming around the far turn.
In Ghost Story, Bob reveals that he amputated the portion of himself that contained memories from Kemmler, resulting in the creation of a blue skull shaped creature dubbed Evil Bob. Harry apparently gave him the name Bob, the only name that the spirit has had. According to Luccio, in Small Favor, it is stated that Bob was a "Mini-Archive," but the wardens had destroyed him, when Kemmler was brought down and killed. Instead, DuMorne—a Warden at the time, but already at least planning to turn traitor—did not destroy Bob and took the skull into his possession, whence it then passed to Harry after the two dueled.
By the time he rejoined the race, the rain had returned, making his bent suspension too big of a handicap, and he retired. On the second lap, Clark took the lead from Hill, as the two pulled away from Bandini, Spence, Gurney and Brabham. Three laps later, Hill regained the lead, and the two British World Champions dueled until lap 12, when Hill's BRM appeared alone, and Clark coasted into the pits with a broken piston. The group of four following the leaders had been battling hard, as Spence was twice forced off the road by Bandini, and retired on lap six with a broken timing chain.
However, in mid season Ickx recovered some form, rising through the field in the British Grand Prix to finish a strong third. Even better was his drive in the German Grand Prix. For most of the race Ickx dueled for fourth place with his teammate Ronnie Peterson who was using a Lotus 76, which had been grafted to the back end of a Lotus 72, Mike Hailwood in a McLaren M23 and Jochen Mass in a Surtees running on his home circuit on Firestone tyres well suited to the circuit. It was a classic duel on the daunting circuit, which still lacked armco around half the track in 1974.

However, when he came back, he was just as strong a passer as he had been the previous year. In one game against the Houston Oilers (nationally telecast as a marquee matchup on ABC's Monday Night Football), Griese dueled with Oiler running back Earl Campbell in an offensive slugfest. Griese threw for over 300 yards and Campbell rushed for nearly 200. The Oilers won the game 35-30. For the year, Griese completed a league-leading 63% of his passes, as the Dolphins went 11-5, losing again to the Oilers in the playoffs. In 1979, Bob suffered from some nagging leg injuries that affected his throwing.
The Virginians won the foot race and unleashed a potent volley in the faces of the Federals, who tried to use the protection of waist-high corn to cover their advance. The Southerners swept each row with their rifle fire, inflicting severe casualties.19 While the skirmishers dueled, Vincent's Union artillery picked out targets and opened on Ferguson's and Chambliss' positions. "The air above our heads seemed to be full of splinters, bark, and bullets but we were thus far safe and unhurt as the enemies [sic] bullets mostly struck the top of the fence or went over our heads," recalled a member of the 17th Virginia.

Finland continued to be unbeaten in men's ice hockey, handing Canada its second loss. The day also saw the most hyped event of these games, at least in Europe, as the Men's 10 km Cross Country Relay was scheduled. The battle stemmed from the Lillehammer games 12 years ago in which Italy out-dueled Norway in that very same event. To that extent, many Norwegians wanted to win this event in order to embarrass the Italians on their home turf, but it was not to be as Italy crushed the field winning over Germany by over 15 seconds to take their 5th straight gold in this event.

As snippets of the recording filtered through the scene in China, the band’s shows started drawing larger crowds, and they soon began to develop a strong following. A series of concerts at D-22 established them as one of the central bands in the scene, much loved by critics and musicians, although difficult at times for audiences to follow. In October, 2007, the performed a stunning set at the Modern Sky festival, as Chen Xi danced and stumbled frenetically onstage while Li Qing’s strange and ugly noises dueled with Li Weisi’s relentless bass lines. After that show it was clear to many that Snapline was one of the key bands in the musical explosion emanating from Beijing.
Battle of Midway was unraced as a two-year-old, instead making his debut in a six furlong maiden special weight race for three-year-olds at Santa Anita Park on January 21, 2017. With that loss, he made his next start in an allowance optional claiming race at Santa Anita on March 9.
Part of satire originates from the events surrounding the feud between Walpole and William Pulteney, 1st Earl of Bath that gained intensity during the creation of the Treaty of Seville and during the Civil List debate. Later in January 1731, Sir William Yonge, 4th Baronet produced Sedition and Defamation Display'd, a pamphlet that mocked Pulteney and defended Yonge's friend, Walpole. Pulteney, in return, dueled with John Hervey, 2nd Baron Hervey, another Walpole friend, after mistaking that it was Hervey who wrote Sedition and Defamation Display'd. Although no one was hurt, the fighting continued in the form of pamphlet attacks until 1 July 1731 when King George II removed Pulteney from the Privy Council.
In the 1987 TV series' theme song lyrics, Leonardo is said outright to be the leader of the TMNT, and there is little disputing this; his orders are usually followed, and he is a very serious do-gooder who hardly ever makes wise cracks. He was attracted to a young kunoichi named Lotus, a swordswoman prodigy from Japan who was hired by Krang to replace Shredder, whom she easily defeated (along with Rocksteady and Bebop). She and Leonardo dueled to a standstill before she resorted to a trick sword to knock him out. When they met the second time, she tried to convince him to join her as "ninja for hire", but he refused.

(It is unknown what would have happened in any other situation, as no such situation ever aired.) The champion then chose a new challenger from a randomly selected group of three from the remaining members of the "Players Gallery" (those in the contestant pool who had not yet participated), based on a small amount of information revealed about each potential contestant. Contestants who had dueled were ranked by number of duels won, and then by cash winnings as a tiebreaker; After five nights, the four top contestants competed for the jackpot on the finale.

Woods hit a 6-iron which carried a lake and settled on the fringe just past the flag, which was 218 yards away, and then chipped to tap-in range for the title-clinching birdie. Hephaestus ordered her to come to the Eurydice Shrine and receive a holy weapon, the Omega sword, so that she could destroy Soul Edge. During the events of Soul Edge, Sophitia eventually found Soul Edge in a port in Valencia and dueled its possessor, the dreaded pirate Cervantes de Leon, destroying one of the twin blades.

Although the Union successfully used a substantial fleet of casemate ironclad riverboats in their Mississippi and Red River Campaigns, the casemate ironclad is mostly associated with the Confederacy.Scharf, 1894, p. 673 This is partly due to the Battle of Hampton Roads, in which the Union turreted ironclad and the Confederate casemate ironclad (sometimes called the Merrimack) dueled, giving rise to the popular notion that "The North had Monitors (predominantly deployed for coastal operations, whereas the unseaworthy Union casemate ironclads were restricted to inland river operations – hence their "brown- water navy" nickname) while the South had (casemate) ironclads". In effect, the Confederacy concentrated its efforts on casemate ironclads as a means to harass the Union blockade of their ports, but this was a choice dictated by available technology and materials rather than by confidence in the possibilities of this type.
The championship match between Shaheen Asmayee and De Spinghar Bazan kicked with a powerful start by Bazan, they blew past Shaheen's midfielders and dueled with their defensive line, threatening an early goal against Shaheen. A long range strike by Shaheen's Samiullah at the 4th minute missed the goal but helped Shaheen swing by the momentum of the match in their favor. They soon took the fight back to Bazan's goal area and fired on the goal in the 6th minute but thanks to Bazan's goalie Zohaib ‘s agility and talent, he made a perfect save and kept Bazan in the game. Supported by brilliant work from their midfielders, Shaheen's Hashmatullah spent much of the first half relentlessly assaulting Bazan's goal area but again Zohaib Aseel revealed himself as special talent, stopping multiple shots on goal that would have bypassed a lesser goalie.

Farina had won again at Ulster Trophy held at the very dangerous and fast Dundrod circuit in Northern Ireland in an Alfa, and the next championship Grand Prix was in Belgium at the fastest circuit of the year: the spectacular and rural 8.7 mi (14.1 km) Spa-Francorchamps circuit. With Fangio and Farina once again 1–2 with the Ferraris of Villoresi and Alberto Ascari taking 3rd and 4th, the Alfas and Ferraris dueled around this circuit, with only 13 entries – small grids in all kinds of motorsports in Europe were commonplace at Spa, because of the fear most drivers had of the circuit. Farina, already on a high after winning at Dundrod won by 3 minutes over Ascari and Villoresi, with Fangio finishing 4 laps down in 9th after one of his Alfa's wheels jammed on its hub.
His program was also known for the number of notable assistant coaches on staff, including Jim Tressel, Glen Mason, Pete Carroll, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer and Dom Capers. The 1980 team was selected as the top-ranked team of the pre-season AP poll and opened the season with four games at home, but were shocked in the fourth game by UCLA, shut out 17–0. The team rebounded to win its next six easily, but then were shut down by a ball-control Michigan team that allowed the Buckeyes only 23 minutes with the ball, then lost again to Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl. In 1981, Ohio State opened strong, including a victory at Stanford in which senior Art Schlichter out-dueled John Elway, but then lost back-to-back games to Florida State and Wisconsin (their first victory over the Buckeyes in 22 games).
Cornell was given the automatic berth into the NCAA tournament as the ECAC tournament champion, the first appearance in the history of the program, but despite this, as well as possessing the best record in the nation (25–1–1) Cornell was pitted against the better of the two WCHA teams in the semifinal, North Dakota. This likely happened as a result of Cornell having already played Michigan State earlier in the year but regardless Cornell opened against a strong WCHA champion loaded with players already experienced with the NCAA tournament. Cornell didn't seem to take note at the start, however, and out dueled North Dakota 12 shots to 8. UND netminder Mike Curran fought off the Cornell attack for most of the first frame but a shot from Skip Stanowski finally found its way into the net at the end of the period.
In Game 2, UW jumped out early 3-0, but Florida State came back with eight unanswered runs to win the game and clinch the championship. The Huskies lost their opening matchup to Arizona in extra innings, before winning a pair of loser-out games against Minnesota and Oklahoma State to advance to the semifinals, where they would have to beat UCLA twice. Plain and Alvelo both dueled with Garcia for nine shutout innings, with Plain throwing six shutout innings before giving the ball to Alvelo for the next three.
The French import Crow took the early lead in the mile and a half race, but entering the backstretch, Johnny D. surged to the front, opening up a lead on the field by as many as ten lengths, before easing up towards the finish and defeating Majestic Light and Exceller over a soft turf course. In his final start of 1977, Johnny D. returned to New York for a start in the inaugural Aqueduct Turf Classic Invitational Stakes, as it was known then before being renamed for famed turf writer Joe Hirsch in 2004. Facing Majestic Light, Exceller and Crow, among other entrants, once more Johnny D. went to the front, but faced a stiffer challenge from Majestic Light this time. The two horses dueled throughout the final half of the race, before Johnny D. pulled clear in the last quarter-mile, winning by almost 4 lengths.

The $500,000 third- place prize effectively doubled the gelding's career earnings and made him West Point Thoroughbred's first horse to reach $1 million in earnings.
In the Vulgate, the White Knight later takes the name of his grandfather, King Lancelot, upon discovering his identity. In the Post-Vulgate, where Lancelot is no longer the central protagonist, he instead comes to Arthur's court alone and eventually is made a knight after releasing Gawain from enemy captivity, previously also having almost defeated Arthur himself when the king dueled Lancelot without being known (Arthur's magic sword, meant to be used only for the sake of the kingdom and justice, may be broken either in this fight or the one against King Pellinore). Almost immediately upon his arrival, Lancelot and the young Queen Guinevere fall in love through a strange magical connection between them, and one of his adventures in the prose cycles involves saving her from abduction by Arthur's enemy Maleagant. The exact timing and sequence of events varies from one source to another, and some details are found only in certain sources.

This era is dominated by the politics of the Committee of Union and Progress (CUP), and the movement that would become known as the Young Turks. Although it began as a uniting progressive party, the CUP splintered in 1911 with the founding of the opposition Freedom and Accord Party (Liberal Union or Entente), which poached many of the more liberal Deputies from the CUP. The remaining CUP members, who now took a more dominantly nationalist tone in the face of the enmity of the Balkan Wars, dueled Freedom and Accord in a series of power reversals, which ultimately led to the CUP (specifically its leadership, the "Three Pashas") seizing power from the Freedom and Accord in the 1913 Ottoman coup d'état and establishing total dominance over Ottoman politics until the end of World War I. Profiting from the civil strife, Austria-Hungary officially annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1908, but pulled its troops out of the Sanjak of Novi Pazar, another contested region between the Austrians and Ottomans, to avoid a war. During the Italo-Turkish War (1911–12) in which the Ottoman Empire lost Libya, the Balkan League declared war against the Ottoman Empire.
