The SO.3050 was designed in occupied France during World War II and was the first French two seat tourer to fly after the Liberation. It was a conventional low wing cantilever monoplane, powered by a Renault 4Pei air- cooled inverted four cylinder inline engine. Pilot and passenger sat side by side under multipart glazing which ran rearwards into the raised upper fuselage. This raised region dropped away towards the tail, where the tailplane was mounted on top of the fuselage.

He was found to be lame, and was not seen again on a racecourse for nearly two years. A comeback second in the 2013 Argento Chase at Cheltenham showed he was 'set to remain competitive in top company' and a tilt at the Grand National was mooted. Thus, as a 12-year-old, Imperial Commander ran in the 2013 Grand National as the top weight, ridden by his trainer's son, Sam Twiston-Davies. He went well for a circuit but dropped away quickly soon after and was pulled up.

On 22 November 2003, shortly after takeoff from Baghdad, Iraq, an Airbus A300B4-200F cargo plane, registered OO-DLL and owned by European Air Transport (doing business as DHL Express), was struck on the left wing by a surface-to- air missile while on a scheduled flight to Muharraq, Bahrain. Severe wing damage resulted in a fire and complete loss of hydraulic flight control systems. Because outboard left wing fuel tank 1A was full at takeoff, there was no fuel-air vapour explosion. Liquid jet fuel dropped away as 1A disintegrated.

On 27 October he was sent to Newmarket to run in the Dewhurst Stakes for which he started 3/1 second favourite. He started quickly but dropped away in the closing stages and finished unplaced behind Ladislas. On the following day on the same course he won a weakly contested race for the Troy Stakes (the event was run twice a year) in which he beat Pebble by a neck. Following the race he was described in The Sportsman as a "nice colt" and a "thorough stayer", but below Derby class.

Ayrshire ran only three times in 1889, but won two of the season's most valuable prizes. On his four-year-old debut on 11 May Ayrshire faced a strong field, including Friar's Balsam (who started odds-on favourite) and Seabreeze in the £10,000 Royal Stakes at Kempton Park. Ridden by Jack Watts, Ayrshire took the lead turning into the straight as Friar's Balsam dropped away, but he was soon challenged by Seabreeze. The two leaders pulled well clear of the remainder, with Ayrshire holding off the filly's sustained challenge to win comfortably by a length.

The fuselage was plywood covered with a flat top, deep, slightly curved sides and a V-shaped bottom. The nose was blunt and the open, unscreened cockpit used for solo flying was well forward of the wing leading edge. The separate second cockpit was under the wing, close to the centre of gravity so that its occupation did not seriously affect the trim. It was controlled with a ratchet-restrained lever in the cockpit which was linked to fuselage mounted gears that engaged with racks on the moving surfaces. The SN.2 was powered by a BMW X five cylinder radial engine mounted with its cylinder heads projecting through a domed cowling. Behind the engine the fuselage was flat sided with the pilot under the wing leading edge in an enclosed single seat cabin. Aft, the central, wing bearing section behind the fixed wing trailing edge dropped away to a five sided structure with a ridged upper surface.

Behind the wing the pylon dropped away gently above the flat sided fuselage to the tail. The braced, straight tapered tailplane was mounted on top of the fuselage and placed far enough forward that the divided elevators were ahead of the rudder hinge, avoiding the need for a large cut out for rudder movement. The fin was small, but the horn balanced rudder was generous in area, slightly pointed and with a rounded, copper bound trailing edge. The undercarriage was conventional, with a nose skid, fixed monowheel and small tailwheel.

At Epsom on 5 June he was the third choice in the betting at odds of 5/1 behind the 4/1 joint-favourites Corrupt and Toulon. Mystiko took the lead from the start and was still in front turning into the straight. Two and a half furlongs from the finish however, he was overtaken and dropped away quickly to finish tenth of the thirteen runners behind Generous, beaten more than thirty lengths. The race was his first and only attempt to run a distance further than one mile.

Jones dropped to the back of the field. On the second lap Arnoux was able to pass Scheckter to take the lead and for the next few laps the five front-runners were nose-to-tail, while Regazzoni ran in a lonely sixth position. On Lap 2 Piquet tangled with Regazzoni and had a huge accident at Curva Grande that tore off the back half of the Brabham. Arnoux's lead lasted until lap 13 when Arnoux's car began to misfire and he dropped away leaving Scheckter, Villeneuve, Laffite and Jabouille by themselves.

Mr Dinos remained in training as a six-year-old but failed to regain his old form. After an absence of a year he started a 20/1 outsider for the 2005 "Ascot" Gold Cup which was run at York and never looked likely to win, finishing eighth behind Westerner. He was then dropped in class for the Listed Esher Stakes over two miles at Sandown on 2 July. After racing in second place for most of the way he dropped away in the straight and finished fifth of the seven runners.

Epoca d'Oro began his third campaign in the Grade 2 Nakayama Kinen on 24 February and came home fifth of the eleven starters behind Win Bright, Lucky Lilac, Stelvio and Suave Richard, beaten two lengths by the winner. In the Grade 1 Osaka Hai the horse started a 13.3/1 outsider in a fourteen-runner field. He set the pace and maintained his advantage into the straight but dropped away quickly in the closing stages and finished tenth behind Al Ain. Epoca d'Oro did not race again in 2019.

In spring 1929 Barnett turned down an offer of £20,000 for the colt from the Aga Khan. Trigo made his first English appearance in April when he won the seven furlong 1929 Berkshire Handicap at Newbury Racecourse. Trigo performed well in exercise gallops and was described as "the best of the Whatcombe three-year-olds". He was strongly fancied for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket a week later but after racing prominently he dropped away in the closing stages of the one mile Classic, finishing unplaced behind Mr Jinks.

Coxswain Billy Fleming tried to use the lee provided by the close by Trent, but with the seas still heavy this proved to be too dangerous, and she stood off to wait until conditions improved. Another attempt was made at midday, and on the fifth attempt they managed to get a line to the stranded section. Hopes were dashed when a huge wave picked up the lifeboat and dropped her in a trough which snapped the line. The Gorleston boat then developed engine trouble and dropped away from the rescue.

Bikala again attempted to make all the running but was overtaken by Assert on the turn into the straight and faded in the closing stages to finish fifth behind Kalaglow. As in 1981, Bikala prepared for the Arc de Triomphe by running in the Prix du Prince d'Orange and again finished second, this time being beaten by the three-year-old General Holme. In the Arc he disputed the lead with the Prix Niel winner Bon Sang until early in the straight, but then dropped away quickly and finished twelfth of the seventeen runners behind Akiyda.

Donovan, however, was never in danger of defeat and won easily by one and a half lengths from Miguel, with El Dorado six lengths back in third. The "lucky" Duke's memorable summer continued when he was married to Winifred Dallas-Yorke six days later. Donovan was then sent to Royal Ascot for the Prince of Wales's Stakes over thirteen furlongs in which he started at odds of 2/9 despite carrying top weight of 131 pounds.

Beary elected to ride the Aga Khan's more fancied runner Rustom Pasha, while the ride on Blenheim went to Harry Wragg, a jockey whose expertise at holding up horses for a late run had earned him the nickname "The Head Waiter". The race attracted its customary huge crowd, with the spectators including the King and Queen as well as the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York. Blenheim started an 18/1 outsider in a field of seventeen. Rustom Pasha led the field on the final turn but weakened and dropped away in the straight.

In the stretch, he engaged in a battle with another Irish-trained colt in Secreto and lost narrowly. Many felt that Pat Eddery had ridden an ill- judged race, hitting the front too soon, and not being able to use El Gran Senor's superior acceleration. Eddery later acknowledged that El Gran Senor should have won the race but that when the pacemakers dropped away early in the straight he found himself in the lead much earlier than intended. Secreto had finished third in the Irish 2,000 Guineas (Gr1) to Sadler's Wells over a mile at The Curragh in his previous race.

Boldden took the lead form the start and set a very fast pace from Vouchsafe and the two pacemakers quickly opened up a ten length lead from Dihistan, Shardari and Shahrastani. Supreme Leader and Petoski came next ahead of Dancing Brave and Triptych. The pacemakers dropped away with half a mile left to run, at which point Dihistan took the advantage and led the field into the straight from Shahrastani and Shardari with Dancing Brave making progress. Shardari overtook Dihistan two furlong from the finish but was immediately challenged by Dancing Brave on the outside as Shahrastani began to struggle.

Entering the straight, Pizarro dropped away and Fearless Fox went to the front followed by Boswell, Mahmoud, Thankerton and Magnet. The closing stages of the race developed into a "most exciting duel" between Fearless Fox and Boswell with the latter gaining the advantage in the final strides to win by three quarters of a length. There was a gap of three lengths back to Mahmoud, who held off Magnet to take third place. After the race Boyd-Rochfort said "I have always considered Boswell to be a great horse [and] told everyone to back him for the Derby".

Elsich took the early lead before falling and leaving Prince Regent in front. The challengers steadily dropped away and by the second last only Poor Flame was in any position to test the favourite. The novice made a bad jumping error and Prince Regent drew away to win by five lengths, with another four lengths back to Red April in third. The first Grand National for six years was run at Aintree Racecourse on 5 April and Prince Regent was made the 3/1 favourite despite top weight of 173 pounds in a race attracted a crown estimated at 400,000.

South Africa took the lead for the first time in the match with six minutes left when Pieter-Steph du Toit scored a try and then Morne Steyn landed a penalty. Argentina were able to defended strongly to prevent South Africa scoring any more points, before Gonzalez Iglesias landed a match winning penalty in the 77th minute. After a week's break Argentina traveled to New Zealand and following a competitive first half dropped away to lose 57–22. Argentina took the lead after only two minutes as Cordero scored under the posts from the opening passage of play.

Despite his lack of experience Inkerman started favourite but after racing close to the lead in the early stages he dropped away quickly in the straight and finished twenty- first of the twenty-five runners behind Shirley Heights. It was reported that the colt had "swallowed his tongue". Inkerman was equipped with a tongue strap when he ran in the Irish Derby at the Curragh on 1 July. He produced a much better performance than he had done at Epsom and finished fourth behind Shirley Heights, Exdirectory and Hawaiian Sound, beaten by less than a length and a half by the winner.

Further back Hill overtook Stewart for fourth place but then retired with a driveshaft failure. Ickx went off on lap 19 and dropped behind Rodriguez and Surtees but he caught and repassed both men within two laps and stayed ahead for the rest of the afternoon to score his first ever victory, in only his ninth Grand Prix. Rodriguez had to pit with gearbox problems and he dropped away, leaving Surtees second (although the Honda driver also stopped to replace broken goggles). Third place went to Stewart with Cooper-BRM driver Vic Elford fourth on his Grand Prix debut.

Stratton was flying an A-4 Skyhawk on January 5, 1967, as part of an armed reconnaissance mission over Thanh Hóa Province to bomb the My Trach ferry. When the ferry could not be found, Stratton spotted a set of barges one mile further upriver and rolled in to attack the craft with rockets. Stratton was forced to eject from his plane when debris was ingested into the engine. According to Stratton he was shot down when the missile he fired from his wing dropped away as it was designed however failed to ignite its engine until it was behind him.

The Panther's subsequent career was a complete failure. He finished fifth of the eight runners behind Loch Lomond in the Irish Derby at the Curragh on 25 June. In the Champion Stakes at Newmarket in October he looked impressive before the race and was ridden by the Champion Jockey Steve Donoghue, Cooper having had his license to ride withdrawn by the Jockey Club stewards after allegations of race-fixing. After showing good early speed however, The Panther dropped away quickly and finished unplaced behind Buchan, leading The Sportsman to suggest that he was deficient in either ability or courage.

After four laps, Jager moved to the front and increased the pace, with only Kipruto, Birech, Ezekiel Kemboi and Soufiane El Bakkali (Morocco) staying in the front group with him. Birech, and later Kemboi, dropped away, and Jager led the remaining trio until they reached the beginning of the final backstretch, where Kipruto accelerated past Jager, followed by El Bakkali. By the water jump, El Bakkali had pulled even, but Kipruto had more speed down the final straightaway.

The race established Noble Decree as a major contender for The Derby. With Carson again choosing Ksar (who had won the Sandown Classic Trial and the Lingfield Derby Trial) and Lester Piggott opting to partner Cavo Doro (a horse he had bred himself), the ride on Noble Decree in the Derby went to Brian Taylor. He was strongly fancied for the race, which was run on very firm ground, but after running well he dropped away quickly in the straight and finished unplaced behind Morston. He was found to have sustained a serious back injury which ended his racing career.

Isinglass started favourite at 4/5 (0.8/1) with Ladas on 13/8 (1.6/1) and the other runners, who included Raeburn, Ravensbury and a filly named Throstle virtually ignored. The outsider Priestholme set off at an unsustainably fast pace, followed by Isinglass, with Watts restraining Ladas towards the rear. Priestholme dropped away in the straight, leaving Isinglass in the lead with Watts moving Ladas up to challenge. The two Derby winners dominated the race in the closing stages but in spite of a "game pursuit", Ladas was unable to overhaul Isinglass, who won by a length with the rest of the field, headed by Throstle, well beaten.

The other remaining BMW was quicker in the hand of Grano and Tom Walkinshaw, but due to poor pit by the BMW Italia crew, Facetti/Finotto were able leading until three laps from the end, when Walkinshaw took over the lead. Fresh from their second place in England, Facetti/Finotto were only challenged by their tyres in the four hours event at Monza, eventually winning by seven laps. In the Mugello race, Facetti and John Fitzpatrick diced the lead in the early stages of the race, only for the Englishman to dropped away when his gearlever came loose. Facetti continued in the lead until Fitzpatrick retook it during a tyre stop.

Seven days later in the Group Two Debutante Stakes, she raced in second place before weakening in the closing stages and finishing fifth behind Raydara. In September Qualify was moved up to the highest class for the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes. Ridden by Michael Hussey, she started at odds of 50/1 and after leading approaching the final furlong she dropped away to finish fifth behind the British-trained Cursory Glance, who won from Lucida and Found. Two weeks later, Qualify started 9/4 second favourite, behind the Jim Bolger-trained Stellar Glow for the Group Three C L Weld Park Stakes over seven furlongs at the Curragh.

At one point Town looked certain for automatic promotion but dropped away near the end of the season and finished third in the table. However, this was followed by another play-off failure losing to Peterborough United at Old Trafford in the final. Dean Hoyle said that Town must get promoted as champions in 2011–12, however, Clark became fixated with an unbeaten record which had begun the season before and fans were annoyed at how many times Town had drawn from winning positions. The team eventually set a Football League record of 43 games unbeaten (not including their play-off final loss), which was previously set by Nottingham Forest.

The seat was created for the February 1974 general election, primarily from part of the abolished constituency of Chigwell, together with parts of the abolished constituency of Epping. When Epping Forest was first created, it was more favourable to the Conservatives than the old Epping seat, as it lost the new town of Harlow (inside the old Epping Rural District) and gained the more Conservative Chigwell Urban District. During the Thatcher period the Labour Party's vote was crushed. Even though the Liberals managed to move into second place, their vote did little more than follow national trends and as soon as 1987 their votes dropped away as well.

Plenipotentiary started 10/11 favourite for the St Leger at Doncaster in September against ten opponents. His first appearance in front of the crowds, however, led to alarm, as he seemed barely able to gallop and was described as looking "more like a pig than a racehorse", causing his supporters to start "hedging" their bets by wagering on other runners. In the race, Plenipotentiary ran very poorly: he struggled to match the pace of the other runners and despite being ridden hard by Conolly he dropped away to finish tenth behind the 40/1 outsider Touchstone. St. Bedes Junction lies between Jarrow and Bede Metro stations on what was the North Eastern Railway line between Newcastle upon Tyne and South Shields. From the junction, a mineral line descends on a gradient of 1 in 100 to Tyne Dock Bottom. On 17 December 1915, in the early morning in fog, a goods train ran out onto the main line past St Bedes signalbox having been banked in the rear up the incline by a six-coupled tank engine. The banking engine, uncoupled, dropped away from the goods train and came to a stand on the up main line, but was not seen by the signalman.

The 1000-pounders dropped away, and a few moments later Crum managed to put the crippled aircraft down on her belly. The Lancaster tore across a wheat field and came to a stop. The crew, badly shaken and bruised, broke all records in getting out of the wreck, convinced that it was going to explode in flames, but the fire in the wing went out. Crum was under orders not to allow his aircraft to fall into German hands. With an axe from the bomber’s escape kit, he cut holes in the fuel tanks and threw a match into the resulting pool of petrol.

Racing down the centre of the course African Song went to the front soon after the start and dominated the race, going clear of his rivals by half way and winning by one and a half lengths from Runnett with Abdu in third place. African Song was scheduled to reappear in the King George Stakes at Goodwood Racecourse in July but went lame just before the start and was withdrawn from the race. In the William Hill Sprint Championship at York in August he started well but dropped away to finish tailed-off last behind Sharpo having sustained a pastern injury. In September it was announced that the colt had been retired from racing.

On his next appearance, Seattle Rhyme started 8/11 favourite for the September Stakes over eleven furlongs at Kempton Park Racecourse on 5 September. He raced at the rear of the five-runner field in a slowly-run race and when the contest developed into a sprint he was unable to quicken and finished third behind Jeune and Red Bishop. On 4 October, Seattle Rhyme was sent to France for the second time to contest the 1992 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe over 2400 metres at Longchamp. Ridden by Michael Roberts, he raced prominently in the early stages but dropped away quickly in the straight to finish seventeenth of the eighteen runners behind Subotica.

A recurring theme in Léon's work is the juxtaposition of the natural and the artificial. In 2004, Léon conducted a large-scale outdoor installation in Montréal, entitled "Esperanza (Out of Season)", in which she adhered fake branches and leaves to the trees in a public park - a work that only became visible with the passing of the season, as the trees' leaves slowly and naturally dropped away, revealing the imitation branches in stark contrast. Léon reprised this project for Site Santa Fe's 2014 Biennial of the Americas, "Unsettled Landscapes." Many of Léon's works concern the aesthetics of sound, working with "the space where sound and the visual merge," as she describes it.

The heavy fuel load for the race made the car ground out in lap 1 after a jump at Wippermann, causing a crash that also took out Vic Elford, whose car flipped upside down and landed in the trees. Elford broke his arm in 3 places. In the race, Jacky Ickx had a very poor start which dropped him down to 9th, but he eventually passed the entire field over 3 laps, and he and Jackie Stewart battled for 4 laps until Ickx passed Stewart at the first corner, the Südkehre. Stewart held on but then gearbox problems began to slow him and he dropped away, leaving Ickx in a dominant position.

Lumiere began her second season in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on 1 May and started the second favourite in a sixteen-runner field. After starting strongly and disputing the early lead she dropped away quickly in the last three furlongs and finished last behind Minding. After a two-month break the filly was dropped in class for her return in the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket on 7 July. Ridden as in the Guineas by Joe Fanning she started 3/1 favourite and posted a decisive win as she took the lead approaching the last quarter mile and drew away to win "comfortably" by six lengths from the colt Cymric.

This motivation of Malthus's work was disregarded by McCulloch, who responded that there was nothing to be gained "by carping at definitions, and quibbling about the meaning to be attached to" words. Given that statement, it is not surprising that McCulloch's review failed to address the rules of chapter 1 and did not discuss the definitions of chapter 10; he also barely mentioned Malthus's critiques of other writers. In spite of this and in the wake of McCulloch's scathing review, the reputation of Malthus as economist dropped away for the rest of his life. On the other hand, Malthus did have supporters, including Thomas Chalmers, some of the Oriel Noetics, Richard Jones and William Whewell from Cambridge.

In December he finished last of the four runners behind Papillon (who had won the Grand National in April), To Your Honour and Miles Byrne in the Paddy Power Dial-A-Bet Chase. On 28 January at Fairyhouse, Klairon Davis started the 11/2 outsider of the three runners when facing Papillon and Mr Baxter Basics in the Normans Grove Chase. After racing in third in the early stages, O'Dwyer sent the twelve-year-old into the lead at the fifth fence. Although Mr Baxter Basics dropped away after a bad mistake at the third last Papillon maintained his challenge but Klairon Davis prevailed by a length to record his twentieth and final career victory.

For the Dolter system a conductor cable was laid in a trench between the rails. At intervals a box was fitted between the rails that contained a stud (which protruded about above the road) and a bell crank. A magnet on a passing tram attracted this crank which then moved to make contact between the conductor cable and stud; once the tram moved away the crank dropped away and the stud was no longer connected to the cable. A long skate was suspended beneath each tramcar which was magnetised by electro-magnets and so both operated the cranks and collected the current that both moved the tram car and powered the electro-magnets.

In normal use the locomotive battery was subject to constant drain holding closed the valve in the vacuum train pipe so to keep this to a minimum an automatic cut-off switch was incorporated which disconnected the battery when the locomotive was not in use and the vacuum in the train pipe had dropped away. It was possible for specially equipped GWR locomotives to operate over shared lines electrified on the third-rail principle (Smithfield Market, Paddington Suburban and Addison Road). At the entrance to the electrified sections a particular, high-profile contact ramp ( instead of the usual ) raised the locomotive's contact shoe until it engaged with a ratchet on the frame. A corresponding raised ramp at the end of the electrified section released the ratchet.

At the first event, the United States Grand Prix at Phoenix, he led for 25 laps in front of Ayrton Senna with a car powered by a customer Ford V8 considered as vastly inferior to the V10 Honda in Senna's McLaren, and also re-passing Senna after the Brazilian had first overtaken for the lead. Second place in the Monaco Grand Prix followed the second place gained in Phoenix, and by mid-season, top teams were clamouring for his services in 1991. A confused situation erupted, with Tyrrell, Williams, and Ferrari all claiming to have signed the driver within a very short period. The results dropped away during the rest of the 1990 season, and Alesi finished ninth in the championship, with 13 points.

After two days of delay due to the weather, the remainder of the Polish 1st Independent Parachute Brigade under Major-General Stanislaw Sosabowski entered the battle on the afternoon of 21 September, delivered at about 17:15 by 114 C-47s of the U.S. 61st and 314th Troop Carrier Groups. Two of the brigade's three battalions were dropped amidst heavy German fire, opposite the 1st Airborne Division's position on a new drop zone south of the Rhine near the village of Driel. The third battalion was dropped 12–15 miles away near Grave. Overall, the poor coordination by the British air transfer officers and persistent attacks by Luftwaffe aircraft caused their supplies to be dropped away on the opposite side of the Rhine.

Later in the race Jabouille dropped away with engine trouble and Laffite stopped with a similar problem and so third place went to Regazzoni with Lauda, Andretti and Jarier picking up the other points. This proved to be a memorable day for Ferrari- as Jody Scheckter and Gilles Villeneuve made it a Ferrari 1–2 and with this victory, Scheckter won the Drivers' Championship and Ferrari won the Constructors' Championship with a car that proved to have a 100% reliability record thus far; an incredible achievement in 1979. Clay Regazzoni finished 3rd, ahead of Lauda, Andretti and Jarier. One week after the Italian GP, the non-championship Dino Ferrari Grand Prix at the Imola circuit near Bologna was held, this race was won by Niki Lauda.

Three weeks later Zafeen was sent to Ireland for the Irish 2,000 Guineas on soft ground at the Curragh and started the 11/2 third favourite. He raced just behind the leaders until the last three furlongs but then dropped away and finished fifteenth of the sixteen runners behind Indian Haven, who won by a length from the Aidan O'Brien-trained France. Darryll Holland took over from Drowne when Zafeen was one of eleven colts to contest the 158th running of the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot on 17 June. The lightly-raced Heron Stakes winner Kalaman (later renamed Oriental Magic) started 5/2 favourite ahead of Clodovil (Poule d'Essai des Poulains), and Indian Haven with Zafeen Next in the betting on 8/1.

The flat racing season in Britain and Ireland was disrupted by the COVID-19 Pandemic and the 1000 Guineas was run a month later than usual on 7 June over the Rowley mile at Newmarket. Millisle started the 4/1 joint second favourite but after being in contention in the early stages she dropped away and came home seventh of the fifteen runners, ten lengths behind the winner Love. At Royal Ascot in June she was brought back to sprint distances for the Commonwealth Cup over six furlongs and finished fifth behind Golden Horde. At Naas Racecourse on 4 July she was dropped to Group 3 class and ran second to the British-trained colt Art Power in the Lacken Stakes over six furlongs.

Darren Cuthbertson (born 7 April 1970) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Melbourne in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the early 1990s. Cuthbertson had started out in the Melbourne Under-19s after coming to the club from Epping and is best remembered for a run of 19 goals in three weeks which he kicked in his fourth, fifth and sixth AFL games. He kicked seven goals in Melbourne's win over North Melbourne at the MCG, bagged another seven the following week when they met Collingwood at Waverley Park and five more against the Brisbane Bears a round later. Cuthbertson's form then dropped away but he still finished the season with 29 goals and played in two finals.

For his first run of 2019 Without Parole was sent to the United Arab Emirates to contest the Dubai Turf over 1800 metres at Meydan Racecourse. He raced in second place before fading in the straight to finish fifth behind Almond Eye, Vivlos, Lord Glitters and Deirdre. On his return to Europe he started the 7/1 fourth choice in the betting for the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury Racecourse on 18 May but after racing in mid-division he appeared to lose his action and dropped away rapidly and finished tailed off last of the fourteen runners. In the autumn of 2019 Without Parole was transferred to the stable of Chad C. Brown to pursue his track career in the United States.

Members of the Chinese minority were also victims of ethnic persecution by the occupying forces in the years which followed. According to research by Loro Horta, son of José Ramos-Horta, the People's Republic of China attempted to support the FALINTIL resistance with delivery of weapons. However, an ocean blockade by Australian and Indonesian warships stopped this from being successful, and the armaments, including weaponry for 8,000 soldiers, artillery and anti-tank weapons were instead sent to Mozambique, where they were given to rebels fighting against the RENAMO. After the death of Mao Zedong in 1976, the engagement between China and East Timor dropped away, having almost entirely ceased by 1978 except for some limited contact via individuals and financial assistance for the Timorese resistance which was helped through by Chinese businesspeople.

Wellbeing emerged as his only serious challenger, but after a sustained struggle over the final furlong, Mutafaweq prevailed by a short head to record his fourth win at the highest level, with a gap of four lengths back to Millenary in third place. Two weeks later, Mutafaweq conceded five pounds to Wellbeing, and five other opponents, in his second attempt to win the Hardwicke Stakes. He was among the leaders from the start, but was unable to quicken in the closing stages and finished third behind Sandmason and Zindabad. In August, Mutafaweq was sent back to Germany for the Group One Credit Suisse Private Banking Pokal and started the 7/5 favourite but after racing in third he dropped away in the closing stages and finished last of the eight runners behind Sabiango.

Car 17 using the Doulter system in Torbay Road - the stud covers are the dark marks between the rails The town council of Torquay did not want their seaside resort disfigured by the poles and overhead wires of a conventional electric tramway and so invited the Dolter Electric Traction Company to construct a tramway using their stud-contact system. Three weeks later Take Charge Lady made her second bid to win the Breeders' Cup Distaff, which was run that year at Santa Anita Park and started the 8/1 fourth choice in the betting behind Sightseek, Got Koko and Elloluv. She raced just behind the leaders in the early stages, but dropped away in the second half of the race and finished sixth of the seven runners behind the 40/1 outsider Adoration. Take Charge Lady was reunited with her first jockey, Tony D'Amico, when she made her last track appearance in the Falls River Handicap on November 27. She started odds-on favorite despite carrying top weight of 123 pounds, but tired in the closing stages and finished fifth of the ten runners behind Lead Story.

However, McKenna's form dropped away and after being held goalless against in Round 6, he was dropped for the remainder of the season. Many full forwards are quick on the lead, but the truly great ones seem to know instinctively how to get the maximum advantage from their leads by timing them to perfection. In this particular skill, McKenna has had few peers, and once he had gained possession of the ball, usually from a bullet stab pass from Barry Price or Wayne Richardson, he almost invariably finished things off with consummate precision, typically using a kick on which the jury, at the time, was still out – the drop punt. McKenna topped the Magpies' goal kicking list for the first of eight consecutive times in 1967, booting 47 goals.

The squadron also continued to take part in operations over the Darwin region, seeing combat on a number of occasions. During the last major battle near the town on 6 July No. 457 Squadron shot down a Zero and damaged five Bettys, but lost three Spitfires. Flying Officer John Smithson demonstrating how he shot down two Japanese bombers on 12 November 1943 Japanese air activity over northern Australia dropped away after 6 July, and No. 457 Squadron saw little further combat. As a result, the squadron's personnel suffered greatly from boredom. No. 457 Squadron scored its next "kills" on 17 August, when its aircraft shot down three of the four Dinahs sent over Darwin that day; the fourth was destroyed by No. 1 Wing's acting commander, Wing Commander Clive Caldwell.

Catherine Helen Spence, who had been a regular member of the congregation from its inception, preached her first sermons at Wakefield Street in 1878 and filled in at the pulpit during Woods' occasional absences between 1884 and 1889. He resigned in 1887 after attendance at the evening service had dropped away to a considerable extent and a dispute arose as to the cause, (an alternative explanation was that it was on account of his declining health) but it was two years before a suitable replacement was found in the Rev. Robert Cooper Dendy of Tentereden, Kent, and Woods continued as pastor. He gave his last sermon on 18 May 1889, and on 20 May 1889 Woods and his wife left for England by the P.& O. steamer Parramatta.

He also took an umbrella with his kit as a means of identification because he had trouble remembering passwords and felt that anyone who saw him with it would think that "only a bloody fool of an Englishman" would carry an umbrella into battle. A Company were dropped away from the target of Arnhem Bridge and had to go through Arnhem where the streets were blocked by German forces. Digby led his men through the back gardens of nearby houses instead of attempting to advance through the streets and thus avoided the Germans. Digby and A Company managed to travel 8 miles in 7 hours while also taking prisoner 150 German soldiers including members of the SS. During the battle, Digby wore his red beret instead of a helmet and waved his umbrella while walking about the defences despite heavy mortar fire.

After jumping the last in second, Deep Sensation overtook Cyphrate on the run-in and held off the renewed challenge of his rival to win by three-quarters of a length, with Katabatic finishing strongly to take third. On his final appearance of the season, Deep Sensation started 7/4 joint favourite with Waterloo Boy in the Grade 1 Melling Chase over two and a half miles at Aintree Racecourse in April. The only other runners were the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase winner Gold Options, who had beaten Katabatic at Haydock Park in January and the dual Ladbroke Hurdle winner Redundant Pal. Deep Sensation raced at the rear of the field, which remained closely grouped until the fourth last, when Waterloo Boy dropped away quickly and was soon pulled up (he was found to have broken a blood vessel).

Rouse again restrained the filly until the last quarter mile before switching to the outside, but the favourite was unable to make significant progress and finished fourth of the eleven runners behind Bireme, Vielle, and The Dancer, beaten a total of eight lengths. Quick As Lightning was brought back in distance and equipped with blinkers for her next race, the Group Two Coronation Stakes over one mile at Royal Ascot. She produced an improved effort, but was beaten a neck by the Irish 1000 Guineas winner Cairn Rouge, with Our Home in third place. Quick As Lightning was then moved up again to one and a half miles for the Irish Oaks at the Curragh Racecourse but appeared unable to stay the distance as she dropped away in the last quarter mile to finish fifth of the nine runners behind Shoot A Line.

In 1954, Robert Hanbury Brown and Richard Q. Twiss introduced the intensity interferometer concept to radio astronomy for measuring the tiny angular size of stars, suggesting that it might work with visible light as well. Soon after they successfully tested that suggestion: in 1956 they published an in-lab experimental mockup using blue light from a mercury-vapor lamp, and later in the same year, they applied this technique to measuring the size of Sirius. In the latter experiment, two photomultiplier tubes, separated by a few meters, were aimed at the star using crude telescopes, and a correlation was observed between the two fluctuating intensities. Just as in the radio studies, the correlation dropped away as they increased the separation (though over meters, instead of kilometers), and they used this information to determine the apparent angular size of Sirius.

Flt Lt Donald Smith, RAAF. On 24 February 1943, the first of the Rolls-Royce Griffon engined Spitfire variants, the F Mk XII was accepted into RAF service, with the first examples being delivered to 41 Squadron. The first operational flight was made on 3 April, with the Mk XII's first victory, a Junkers Ju 88 occurring two weeks later.Thomas 2008, pp. 6–7. The only other squadron to use the variant was 91 Squadron, which started re- equipping on 20 April; this unit's first XII victories were five Fw 190 fighter-bombers of SKG 10 which were claimed shot down during an attempted low altitude raid on Folkestone on the evening of 25 May.Thomas 2008, pp. 11–12. The Mk XII had superb performance at low and medium altitudes, though the performance dropped away above about 15,000 feet.Price 2002, pp. 191–192.

He led the field down the hill and into the straight as several challengers emerged and then dropped away, and entering the final furlong he had a commanding lead and looked the likely winner. Fred Archer on Bend Or however, had been making gradual progress and sent his colt up to join the leader in the closing stages. Robert the Devil responded with a "brilliant effort", but at the line the favourite prevailed by a head after a "magnificent" finish. It was widely agreed that the riding of Archer on the winner was the main difference between the colts. Following the race, "much excitement" was caused when an objection was lodged against the winner on the grounds that he was “not the horse he was represented to be” and that all his race entries were therefore not valid.

Approaching the last quarter mile Knight to Behold led a front rank of seven horses which included (from the inside) Kew Gardens, Hazapour, The Pentagon, Dee Ex Bee, Masar and Roaring Lion with Saxon Warrior beginning to make steady progress alongside his stablemate Delano Roosevelt. Knight to Behold, Kew Gardens and The Pentagon quickly dropped away, leaving Hazapour and Dee Ex Bee to briefly dispute the lead before Masar swept past them on the outside a furlong and a half from the finish. Roaring Lion briefly looked like a serious threat in the final furlong but Masar kept on well and won by a length and a half. Dee Ex Bee took second place, half a length in front of Roaring Lion whilst Saxon Warrior stayed on well to deprive Hazapour of fourth place without ever looking likely to win.

Priestholme dropped away in the straight, leaving Isinglass in the lead and Ladas moving up to challenge. The two Derby winners dominated the race in the closing stages but in spite of a "game pursuit" by Ladas, who got to within a neck of his rival at one point, Isinglass proved his superiority and won by a length with the rest of the field, headed by Throstle, well beaten. Having won two of the "Ten Thousand Pounders", Isinglass attempted to win a third in the Jockey Club Stakes over one and a quarter miles at Newmarket on 28 September. The early stages of the race were marked by the erratic behaviour of the St Leger winner Throstle who bolted off the course despite the best efforts of her rider Mornington Cannon and embarked on "a tour of the country".

Kiss opened the show by synchronizing an explosion sound with bursting lights as a large black curtain blocking the stage dropped away to reveal the band descending from the lighting rig on a chrome platform spewing sparks underneath. The group stepped off onto center stage, and it raised up back into the lighting rig as they began playing. Initially all four members rode the platform down, fists in the air; soon, however, the band was already playing the first song as it started to lower, and drummer Peter Criss descended on his own platform, playing his drum kit, in synch with the front platform. On June 27, 2000, the band filmed their show at East Rutherford, New Jersey, for a pay-per-view concert film, The Last KISS, which was released later on home video and is part of the Kissology set.

Mezzo Soprano began her second campaign at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse on 13 March when she contested the UAE 1000 Guineas over 1600 metres on dirt in which she was ridden by Kerrin McEvoy and won by three lengths from Gonfilia after taking the lead 300 metres from the finish. Godolphin's racing manager Simon Crisford commented "She is a super filly, was working very well and we had high hopes for her. She won very well at Deauville last summer and is a lovely filly with a bright future". On her return to Europe Mezzo Soprano went off the 7/1 fourth choice in the betting for the 1000 Guineas on 4 May over the Rowley Mile at Newmarket Racecourse but after racing prominently she dropped away in the closing stages and came home fourteenth of the nineteen runners behind Russian Rhythm.

He bounced back the following season with his best ever end of season total of 86 and a second classic win on the Hills- trained Enstone Spark in the 1,000 Guineas. His arrangement with Hills ended with the arrival of American jockey Steve Cauthen at the stable in 1979. Though he still rode some horses for the yard, Cauthen was very much the first choice jockey and by 1982 Johnson was riding more or less as a freelance. He had a spell riding for Clive Brittain during 1980-81 and also a number of winners for Michael Stoute. His seasonal totals of winners dropped away dramatically, - 61 in 1979, 49 in 1980, 29 in 1981, 46 in 1982, to 27 in 1983. In the 1980 Epsom Oaks, Johnson rode The Dancer, on whom he had won a race at Newbury as a 2 year old, for Major Dick Hern.

Kept wide by Ruby Walsh, Al Ferof jumped well but was outpaced by Somersby and subsequent Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Finian's Rainbow. Afterwards, Walsh suggested that the King George VI Chase over three miles at Kempton would suit the horse, who appeared more of a stayer. Despite the reverse, Al Ferof stayed at two miles for a rematch with Sprinter Sacre, who was unbeaten in two starts over fences, in the Grade 1 Arkle Challenge Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival. Sent off at 3/1, Al Ferof attempted to pressurise Sprinter Sacre on the far side of the course, but made a bad mistake four out and dropped away to finish a distant fourth behind Sprinter Sacre, Cue Card and 2010 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner Menorah. Al Ferof completed his first season chasing in the Grade 1 Manifesto Novices’ Chase over two and a half miles at Aintree.

Ridden as in most of his races that year by Hiroshi Kitamura he won by a neck from Real Steel, with Danon Platina three quarters of a length back in third place. In the Satsuki Sho over 2000 metres at the same track on 19 April he started the 8.7/1 fourth choice in the fifteen runner field and finished third behind Duramente and Real Steel with the favoured Satono Crown (winner of the Yayoi Sho) in sixth place. Following the race his trainer Hisashi Shimizu explained "our horse gave it everything he had and I thought he turned in a good performance. He doesn’t give in easily". On 31 May at Tokyo Racecourse the colt contested the 82nd running of the Tokyo Yushun over 2400 metres but after racing in second place he dropped away quickly in the last 300 metres and finished fourteenth of the eighteen runners behind Duramente.

One consequence of these changes has been that many anthropologists whose methods are more clearly those of the physical sciences have dropped away and either formed or joined independent scientific societies, such as the American Association of Physical Anthropologists and Society for American Archaeology. Another consequence was that in 2004 a substantial group of more scientifically oriented panels that had been proposed for the annual meetings of the AAA was rejected for lack of an interested section. It then became clear to many who remained in the AAA that while there were organized bodies arguing strongly against scientific methods and values, there was no equivalent voice dedicated to arguing for them. This SASci was then formed to argue for the pro-science position within the American Anthropological Association and to create a bridge between the American Anthropological Association and anthropologists and others outside of it who shared their concerns.

In the early 1840s the Colony was bankrupted by Governor Gawler's lavish spending on infrastructure (largely to stave off unemployment) and George Grey was sent out to replace him, and effected strict economies. In the resulting recession, many colonists were made insolvent, and Gray, who relied on rent from his city cottages for much of his income, was forced to borrow heavily in a desperate gamble to avoid joining them. By 1845 however, with a little help from the Burra copper mine, the colony's economy had turned around and by 1848 Gray had repaid his creditors. In 1850–1851 Gray added another including sections 165, 215, 216 and 169 to his holdings in the Reedbeds area, but later that year an exodus of able-bodied men from South Australia to the Victorian goldfields began, and until late 1853 when the tide started to turn, income from his rental properties dropped away, and he invested in no new properties.

The men's 1st VIII, having started the Lent Bumps near the bottom of the table, quickly moved up. They had reached the 1st division by 1897, where they remained until 1972. Since the 1980s, the 1st VIII has remained largely in the middle or lower half of the 1st division.
