As the North Vietnamese called on the local population to maintain the military lines of communication, labor was drawn away from dike maintenance. The problem was exacerbated by the placement of air defense equipment (AA and GCI) on the dikes and the resulting deterioration caused by the vibration of the guns. North Vietnamese SAMs that missed their mark often fell back to earth before exploding, causing additional damage to the dikes. As the dikes deteriorated, however, the North Vietnamese sought a way to continue to fight the war and maintain the dikes.
Most of the cercariae encyst in the haemocoel of the ant and mature into metacercariae, but one moves to the sub-esophageal ganglion (a cluster of nerve cells underneath the esophagus). There, the fluke takes control of the ant's actions by manipulating these nerves. As evening approaches and the air cools, the infected ant is drawn away from other members of the colony and upward to the top of a blade of grass. Once there, it clamps its mandibles onto the top of the blade and stays there until dawn.
A panic attack can cause blood sugar to be drawn away from the brain and toward the major muscles. Neuroimaging suggests heightened activity in the amygdala, thalamus, hypothalamus, and brainstem regions including the periaqueductal gray, parabrachial nucleus, and Locus coeruleus. In particular, the amygdala has been suggested to have a critical role. The combination of increased activity in the amygdala (fear centre) and brainstem along with decreased blood flow and blood sugar in the brain can lead to decreased activity in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) region of the brain.

Allied forces would be drawn away from the Channel ports, which were essential for British supply; the Germans could then attack these ports and other lines of communication.

For example, in a polar covalent bond like HCl, the shared electron oscillates between the bonded atoms. The resulting partial charges are a property only of zones within the distribution, and not the assemblage as a whole. For example, chemists often choose to look at a small space surrounding the nucleus of an atom: When an electrically neutral atom bonds chemically to another neutral atom that is more electronegative, its electrons are partially drawn away. This leaves the region about that atom's nucleus with a partial positive charge, and it creates a partial negative charge on the atom to which it is bonded.
Systems psychology has emerged here as a new approach in which groups and individuals, are considered as systems in homeostasis. Within open systems they have an active method of remaining stable through the dynamic relationship between parts. A classic example of this homeostatic dynamic is the "problem behavior" of a bed wetting child having a stabilizing function of holding a troubled marriage together because the attention of the parents is drawn away from their conflict towards the "problem" child. More recent developments in systems psychology have challenged this understanding of homeostasis as being too focused on causal understanding of systems.

After the whirlpool, the wort is drawn away from the compacted hop trub, and rapidly cooled via a heat exchanger to a temperature where yeast can be added. A variety of heat exchanger designs are used in breweries, with the most common a plate-style. Water or glycol run in channels in the opposite direction of the wort, causing a rapid drop in temperature. It is very important to quickly cool the wort to a level where yeast can be added safely as yeast is unable to grow in very high temperatures, and will start to die in temperatures above .
North-South Lake In the early years of the 19th century, American artists seeking a subject matter unique to the new nation were drawn away from New York City and up the Hudson Valley. There they focused on the wildness of the landscape where mountains drew close to the river, first in the Hudson Highlands and then, further north, the Catskill Escarpment, where mountains rise to nearly 4,000 feet (1219 m) from a flat valley floor. Their work was known, at first derisively, as the Hudson River School and eventually became America's first homegrown artistic movement. On that escarpment they found the two lakes.

On 8 December, Yeovil faced Oxford United in the southern area semi-final of the Football League Trophy but were knocked out at the semi- final stage. Goals from Wes Fogden and Shaun Jeffers weren't enough as the Glovers lost 3–2.
Sandes was devastated by the death of her father in 1866 when she was just fifteen years of age, and sought solace in the companionship of her good friend Mary Fry. Together the girls resolved to do God's work in helping to lead others towards Christianity. At this time, regiments of British soldiers were stationed in many parts of Ireland and Mary was moved with compassion to see how young lads of around eighteen years of age were being drawn away into bad company and falling deeper and deeper into sin. Mary began to invite the young soldiers to her home and encouraged them to converse and ask questions.
The week in which teams would find out the majority of their fixtures for the season began with the League Cup draw. Sheffield Wednesday were drawn away to local Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United, with the game to take place on the week commencing 5 August. 2-days later and the league fixture list was announced, the opening game of the season on 3 August for the Owls will be away to last seasons relegated Premier League team Queens Park Rangers, the first home game is a week later against Burnley. Then just the third game of the season sees Sheffield Wednesday face Yorkshire rivals Leeds United at Elland Road.
The draw for the third round took place on 29 August, after the second round had been played. The seven Premier League teams involved in European competition entered at this stage, joined by the winners from the second round. Blackburn were drawn away to Nottingham Forest; the tie was played on 22 September. Both teams created a few chances in an opening period where Forest looked more than a match for their Premiership rivals, although it was Blackburn who took the lead in the 37th minute when Benni McCarthy's cross-cum-shot-cum-free kick bypassed everyone in the box and nestled in the far corner.
The work comprises three naked figures with swirling drapes: a young woman kneeling has just released the hand of the second figure, an older standing man, and he is being drawn away by the embrace of the third person, an older woman. It can be viewed as an allegory of ageing, the man leaving behind youth and progressing towards maturity and eventual death; but it can also be interpreted as reflecting Claudel's abandonment by Rodin: she is pleading with Rodin, but he has returned to Beuret. Claudel explained this symbolism in letters to her brother Paul Claudel, then consul in New York. According to her, the group represents Destiny.
The destruction of the dam would have significantly affected the functioning of the country's electrical grid and could cause major flooding downstream from the dam. Along with providing flood control and a third of Iraq's electrical generation capacity, the dam provided the only other crossing of the Euphrates River west of Baghdad. An additional bonus would be by capturing both locations the Iraqi Army would drawn away from their defense of Baghdad, which was under assault by the US Army V Corps. However, the Iraqi high command were not ignorant of the dam's strategic value, and they had stationed a powerful defensive force in and around the Haditha Dam.
Enraged by his friend's apparent death, Liu Kang challenged Shao Kahn and defeated him a second time. With Outworld driven back during Mortal Kombat Gold (1999), Kung Lao decided not to return to the Shaolin; allowing everyone to believe that he was dead so he live a life of peace in respect to the beliefs of his ancestors. This would not last long however, as he was drawn away from his newfound peace to help fight against the fallen Elder God Shinnok's forces when word reached him that Goro was still alive. After Shinnok's defeat, Kung Lao attacked Goro with a ceremonial strike of vengeance for the Great Kung Lao's death.
A common practice has been to use fine print in advertising on television. In such a case, the fine print is displayed at the bottom of the screen in a manner where it is not noticeable to many viewers, or is displayed for such a short time that no one has the time to read the entire paragraph without an artificial means of stopping the commercial, i.e. record it or freeze frame it, such as with a digital video recorder (DVR), in order to read it. The attention is drawn away from this little section by the more eye- catching or large print description of the offer, which alone is untrue.
The border battles fought that fall and winter had indeed cost the PAVN dearly, but they had achieved their objective. By January 1968, one-half of all U.S. maneuver battalions in South Vietnam had been drawn away from the cities and lowlands and into the border areas. The official, post-war, PAVN history is more sanguine, viewing their results as the infliction of casualties on a brigade, two battalions and six companies of US forces. Operations in and around the Central Highlands including previous battles at Hill 1338 had rendered the 173rd Airborne combat ineffective, and they were ordered to Tuy Hòa to repair and refit.
The following day, the Grecians were drawn away to Forest Green Rovers for the Second Round. Prolific goalscorer Christian Doidge netted for Rovers after 26 minutes, the only goal in the first half. Grecians skipper Jordan Moore-Taylor equalised in the 58th minute and Jayden Stockley scored not long after to give City a 2–1 lead. However, Forest Green equalised through Scott Laird in the 88th minute and Doidge scored again in the 92nd to turn the game on its head. To make the game's conclusion even more dramatic, Stockley scored his second goal in the 94th minute as the match finished 3–3.
Although they support and attract many types of beneficial life (not just beetles), these areas are known as beetle banks. When they are present, some pests may be drawn away from crops to them and predatory insects and arachnids that feed upon pest insects will be better-supported by these more naturalized areas. They additionally have the beneficial aspect of supporting pollinators, unlike many field crops such as maize. Moreover, being untreated with pesticides and providing more diversity, plants growing in more wild areas adjacent to farms produce more insects that attract and support birds which can also feed on pests that would harm crops.
Capillary action through synthetic mesh is the result of the intermolecular attraction between moisture and semi-synthetic polymers, causing a current of thermionic energy through a specific pathway within a mesh material. The combination of the adhesive forces and the surface tension that arises from cohesion produces the characteristic upward curve in a fluid, such as water. Capillarity is the result of cohesion of water molecules and adhesion of those molecules to the solid material forming the void. As the edges of the material are brought closer together, such as in a very narrow path, the interaction causes the liquid to be drawn away from the original source.
Since the setting of the Eye of Terror Worldwide Campaign was on the opposite side of the galaxy from the Tau Empire, and published materials had previously established that the Tau have limited faster-than-light capability, a separate 'mini-campaign' was held specifically for Tau players. Codex: Tau Empire (Hoare, 2006) was the first publication to incorporate the impact of this game event on the 40k universe. In the new background material published with the Codex, it is explained that Imperial forces were drawn away from Tau space to defend against Abaddon's Thirteenth Black Crusade. This left a power vacuum that prompted the Tau to initiate their Third Sphere Expansion.
In 2005, the club won the South West Division defeating Somerset Vikings in the final and reached the RLC Regional final; losing to Wetherby Bulldogs. As a result of their efforts in 2005, in 2006 the club was invited to take part in the Challenge Cup and, despite the early rounds being in the off-season for conference teams, took the opportunity to play in the famous competition. In the preliminary round they were drawn away to Pennine League team Illingworth and on a famous day in January beat them by 25-24. In the next round they faced stronger opposition in the St. Helens club Blackbrook, this time at home.
Kroos (left) battles Julian Baumgartlinger for the ball in a UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying match against Austria in Vienna (Ernst-Happel- Stadion). Kroos established himself as a regular starter in Germany's qualification campaign for UEFA Euro 2012, playing in eight out of a possible ten games. Germany won all ten qualifying matches to top group A. After qualification was already ensured, Kroos scored his first two international goals, both with his strong right foot. Notably, both Kroos' goals were Germany's first after falling behind in the respective matches, both of which were drawn away friendlies, against the two Euro 2012 hosts – Poland and Ukraine.
In their first season in the Conference the club finished third. The 1996–97 season saw the club reach the first round of the FA Cup for the first time since 1919–20. After beating Southport 2–1 in the first round, they defeated Second Division clubs Blackpool in the second round and York City in the third round, winning both games 1–0. In the fourth round they were drawn away to Premier League Middlesbrough, losing 3–2. The following season saw Hednesford entered directly into the first round of the FA Cup, where they defeated Hull City 2–0, before losing 1–0 to Darlington in the second round.
However, public attention was drawn away from the needs of major restructuring, housing, developing the transportation system, and helping people who suffered because of the tsunami. At the same time, a study by Nakamura "found a continued willingness to participate in social learning processes and in citizen deliberations that may have been triggered by the 2011 disaster" and which "apparently contradicts the evidence of a decaying psychological half-life of Fukushima memories observed in TV programmes." David Spiegelhalter of Cambridge University explained that the psychological effects of the media coverage include increased feelings of risk and vulnerability.Risk and public dialogue in the Fukushima story . The club had been founded some years before their single year in the semi-professional ranks. They had been drawn away to Wigan in the first round of the 1897 Challenge Cup, losing by 3 points to nil. The following year they entered the second Challenge Cup competition and lost again in the first round, this time away to Hull F.C. at the Boulevard by 19 points to nil. At the end of the 1901–02 season, the County Leagues elected 18 teams to join the new Division 2 (7 from Lancashire and 10 from Yorkshire and new member South Shields) with the existing second competition scrapped.
Having previously qualified for the Scottish Cup by virtue of winning the North Region Superleague, in 2014 Banks O'Dee became a full licensed member of the Scottish Football Association and therefore automatically qualified for the competition. They were once again drawn away to Rothes in the first round, and won 4–0. Their second round fixture was away to reigning Highland League champions Brora Rangers, where they were knocked out by a score of 5–0. On 12 April 2017 the BBC reported that a football belonging to the under-19 team had washed ashore on a small island north of Tromso, Norway over 1000 miles away.
In fact Almanzor's attention was drawn away from Castile and towards Pamplona. On 4 September he took a certain place, Kashtila, best identified with Carcastillo,The identification was first proposed by José María Lacarra and has been accepted by Martínez Díez, 570–71. The great French Arabist Évariste Lévi-Provençal first hypothesised that Kashtila meant Castile and referred to the capital city of the county, that is, Burgos. He believed that for the whole month of August (Ramadan) Almanzor had been ravaging Castile towards Zaragoza, from where he rapidly returned to Burgos, which he entered on the final day of Ramadan, to break the fast, on 4 September.
Bolton entered the League Cup at the Second Round stage alongside Blackburn Rovers, as both clubs were given a bye meaning they would avoid playing in the first round, along with those Premier League clubs not involved in European competition. on 15 August, Bolton were drawn away at Crawley Town. This will be the first competitive fixture between the clubs. Bolton took the lead in the first half when Benik Afobe scored his first goal from the club but two late goals from Billy Clarke and Nicky Ajose in the last ten minutes gave Crawley a 2–1 win and knocked Bolton out of the League Cup.
As merchant ships of a neutral country the Limerick ships had no blackout facilities, and the Master of the British Convoy Commodore's ship, the liner , objected that this would make the convoy visible to the enemy at night. In an apparently vain attempt to make them less visible, the Vice Admiral who was Convoy Commodore positioned the two Irish ships in the centre of the convoy. On 19 August in separate attacks the Norwegian destroyer HNoMS Bath was drawn away from the convoy and sunk by , and three minutes later sank the British merchant ship Alva.Rohwer, (1999). Axis submarine successes of World War Two, page 62. Clonlara rescued 13 survivors from Alva.Lund, (1987).
Instead of engaging the Druze in the winter, the French decided to temporarily withdraw, a decision noted by the new high commissioner, Henry de Jouvenel, to be a tactical error, as it underrepresented French military strength and encouraged a regional rebellion to achieve national dimensions. Indeed, the weak immediate response of the French invited the intervention of disaffected local elite, tribesmen, and loosely connected nationalists based in Damascus. First to seize upon the opportunity presented by the revolt were the nomadic tribes, who used the absence of French authority – troops had been drawn away to concentrate on the rebelling region – to prey upon farmers and merchants, thereby creating an atmosphere of sympathy for the rebellious Druze.
In June 2005, England played its first ever T20 international match, defeating Australia by 100 runs. Later that year, England defeated Australia 2–1 in a thrilling series to regain the Ashes for the first time in 16 years, having lost them in 1989. Following the 2005 Ashes win, the team suffered from a spate of serious injuries to key players such as Vaughan, Giles, Andrew Flintoff and Simon Jones. As a result, the team underwent an enforced period of transition. A 2–0 defeat in Pakistan was followed by two drawn away series with India and Sri Lanka. In the home Test series victory against Pakistan in July and August 2006, several promising new players emerged.
The match took place on 25 January 2014 at Roots Hall with City leaving it until the second half to break the deadlock when Matty Fryatt scored both goals to take the visitors into the next round. The draw for the fifth round took place on 26 January 2014 and Hull were drawn away to Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion. The match was selected for live TV coverage by BT Sport and set to take place on 17 February 2014. The draw for the quarter-finals took place on 16 February and if Hull beat Brighton & Hove Albion they were drawn at home to Sunderland with match taking place on 8 or 9 March 2014.
The draw for the first round of the Football League Cup took place on 16 June 2010, and saw Watford drawn away to League Two side Aldershot Town. Coincidentally, the two sides were due to play one another at Aldershot's stadium in a pre-season match at the end of July; that fixture was cancelled by mutual agreement following the draw. The ten outfield players that started Watford's opening match against Norwich kept their places in the starting line-up, while Rene Gilmartin kept a clean sheet on his competitive Watford debut. A brace from Danny Graham and a first goal of the season from Marvin Sordell gave Watford a 3–0 victory.
Bury retained their top-flight status for seventeen seasons until they were relegated to the Second Division after the 1911–12 season (they finished in the relegation positions in the 1904–05 season but avoided relegation when the capacity of Division One was increased from eighteen to twenty clubs). In 1900 and 1903, Bury won the FA Cup, scoring ten goals in the two finals without conceding any. In the 1900 final, they beat Southern League team Southampton 4–0. Bury's run to the final was remarkable in that they were drawn away from home in every round but won through with victories over Burnley, Notts County, cup holders Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest.
The young king reached the mountain and was drawn away from his attendants by a deer which he could not catch; when he returned, he found all his men dead or dying of poison at their camp. He hid in the tree and saw a youth approaching. This youth had servants dispose of the bodies and lead off the horses, but realized that there were one more horses than bodies and asked who owned the final horse. The young king leaped down and claimed ownership of the horse, challenging the youth to battle in revenge for his fallen brothers and servants—for surely this youth had caused his elder brothers to never return from the mountain.
In 1878 Clery, now a major, was sent to South Africa as a special staff officer where he served in two brief expeditions in Griqualand West and Sekhukhuneland. He later took part in the Anglo-Zulu War as the principal staff officer to Colonel Richard Glyn, the man responsible for the centre column of the invasion force. Clery was given the job of marking out a camp near the Isandlwana hill on 20 January 1879. Then, in the early hours of 22 January, he accompanied Glyn, Lord Chelmsford and half of the column as they were drawn away by a decoy element whilst the camp was massacred during the Battle of Isandlwana.
Influenced by figures such as Simone de Beauvoir, Antonin Artaud, Maya Deren, Wilhelm Reich, and Kaprow, Schneemann found herself drawn away from painting. In 1962, Schneemann moved with James Tenney from their residence in Illinois to New York City when Tenney obtained a job with Bell Laboratories as an experimental composer. Through one of Tenney's colleagues at Bell, Billy Klüver, Schneemann was able to meet figures such as Claes Oldenburg, Merce Cunningham, John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg which got her involved with the Judson Memorial Church's art program. There, she participated in works such as Oldenburg's Store Days (1962), and Robert Morris's Site (1964) where she played a living version of Édouard Manet's Olympia.
Oxfordshire Nomads RUFC became Oxford RFC in 1948 and moved to their current ground in 1951. During the seventies the club were known as Oxford City RFC and competed in the 1971–72 John Player Cup which today is known as the Anglo-Welsh Cup. Their most famous player was arguably Michael James Parsons known as Jim Parsons who was capped by England four times in the 1968 Five Nations Championship , after joining Northampton Saints. In the 1988–89 Pilkington Cup they did well to progress to the third round but were then drawn away to four time winners and England's leading club at the time Bath, which resulted in an 82-9 hammering.
Their place in the Third Round was given to a "lucky loser", determined by drawing one team out of the 40 losers from the Second Round; that team was Third Division Darlington, who were drawn away to Aston Villa. Manchester United were knocked out of the Club World Championship in the group stage after losing to hosts Vasco da Gama and drawing with Mexican club Necaxa, their only victory coming against Australian representatives South Melbourne. It later turned out that their FA Cup sacrifice was in vain, as FIFA suggested that their participation in the competition would have no bearing on the vote to host the 2006 World Cup, which was ultimately won by the German Football Association.
Marshall was born in Southampton and played rugby in his youth before converting to "soccer", joining the newly formed St. Mary's Football Club in 1888. He made his first competitive appearance for St. Mary's in 1891, helping the club to win the Hampshire Senior Cup, defeating a team from the Royal Engineers, Aldershot 3–1 at the County Ground. The following season, the "Saints" entered the FA Cup for the first time, being drawn away to Warmley (near Bristol) in the First Qualifying Round where they won comfortably 4–1, with Marshall playing at right-back. Although the Saints defeated Reading 7–0 in the next round, they were subsequently disqualified for fielding two ineligible players.
The following day saw Yeovil, through to the FA Cup fourth round for just the third time in their history, drawn away against Premier League side Southampton. After being on the transfer list for six weeks, on 10 January last season's top goalscorer Paddy Madden joined Football League Two side Scunthorpe United for an undisclosed fee, believed to be £300,000. On 11 January, Yeovil announced they had agreed to extend the loan of Cardiff City midfielder Joe Ralls until the end of the season. The same day Yeovil faced Burnley at Huish Park, goals from Danny Ings and Sam Vokes consigned Yeovil to a 2–1 defeat despite Kieffer Moore's first Championship goal.
Although the audience may feel cheated at the end of the movie, they are still left with the realization that there is a logical possibility someone else could have faced a similar tragic predicament. Fuentes, in an interview, explains that he did not want to reveal the truth within the film because it was essential for him to retain the audience’s attention through the “raw” ethnography and emotions. Furthermore, to break the façade too early would have distracted the audience and drawn away from his message . Not much is known of the first audience’s original reception of Bontoc Eulogy, but current viewers suggest that it is a film that all Filipino audiences must watch.
Below this device was the name of the institution which in Nalanda's case read, "" which translates to "of the Community of Venerable Monks of the Great Monastery at Nalanda". While there is ample epigraphic and literary evidence to show that the Palas continued to patronise Nalanda liberally, the Mahavihara was less singularly outstanding during this period as the other Pala establishments must have drawn away a number of learned monks from Nalanda. The Vajrayana influence on Buddhism grew strong under the Palas and this appears to have also had an effect on Nalanda. What had once been a centre of liberal scholarship with a Mahayanist focus grew more fixated with Tantric doctrines and magic rites.
Yeovil's season began with a Football League Cup first round home tie against Colchester United on 14 August. A first half brace from centre back Richard Hinds and a debut goal from winger Keanu Marsh-Brown helped Yeovil to a comfortable 3–0 victory over their League One rivals. The draw for the second round of the League Cup took place the following day and presented Yeovil with a home tie against Premier League side West Bromwich Albion. Prior to the first match of the league season, on 18 August, the Football League Trophy draw took place on Soccer AM with Yeovil drawn away against Bristol Rovers in the first round of the competition.
Edwards scored 10 goals in 20 appearances across all competitions for the side as Yeovil reached the Third Round of the F.A. Cup before being eliminated by the Premier League's Liverpool FC. The following season Edwards joined Exeter City FC, which also reached the Third Round of the F.A. Cup to be drawn away against Manchester United, where Edwards and his teammates claimed a 0–0 draw at Old Trafford to earn a replay on home turf. In addition to making almost 50 appearances for Exeter, Edwards also spent time on loan with Tamworth and Chester City during his two seasons at the club. Edwards also played for Crawley Town, Tamworth, Burton Albion and Solihull Moors before his retirement as a player.
Helland scored twice when Hødd drew 2-2 in the quarter-final against the Tippeligaen side Haugesund. Hødd won the penalty shoot-out 5-4 when Martin Bjørnbak missed Haugesund's sixth penalty after Helland and Haugesund's Alexander Søderlund missed one penalty each while the rest scored. The supporters of Brann booked plane-tickets and hotel-rooms in Oslo after their team were drawn away against Hødd in the semi-final, as they were confident that Brann would beat the second-tier team and reach a second consecutive cup final, despite not winning in Møre og Romsdal since Brann won 2-0 against Molde on 6 May 2006. Zsolt Korcsmár sent Brann in the lead after 17 minutes before Fredrik Aursnes equalized five minutes before half time.
A year later, he signed for Northern Premier League Premier Division (seventh-tier) club Stourbridge, for which he played part-time while working as a fitness trainer in a gym in the Rubery area of Birmingham. In 2015–16 he made 55 appearances in all competitions, performed well, and signed for another season. He was a member of the Stourbridge team that progressed through four rounds of qualifying and two rounds proper to reach the third round of the 2016–17 FA Cup. Drawn away to Wycombe Wanderers of EFL League Two, Stourbridge conceded just after half-time, but with 20 minutes left, a long free kick into the penalty area fell to Scarr who stabbed it home to equalise; Adebayo Akinfenwa restored Wycombe's lead late on.
Hull entered the FA Cup competition in the Third round the draw for which the took place on 7 December 2015 and Hull were drawn at home to follow Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion. Robert Snodgrass took the penalty to score his first goal for the club. Brighton's Andrew Crofts shot in extra-time rebounded off the cross-bar to give Hull the victory 1–0. The draw for the fourth round took place on 11 January 2015 and Hull were drawn away to the winner of the Bury and Bradford City third round match.
A GPS spoofing attack attempts to deceive a GPS receiver by broadcasting fake GPS signals, structured to resemble a set of normal GPS signals, or by rebroadcasting genuine signals captured elsewhere or at a different time. These spoofed signals may be modified in such a way as to cause the receiver to estimate its position to be somewhere other than where it actually is, or to be located where it is but at a different time, as determined by the attacker. One common form of a GPS spoofing attack, commonly termed a carry-off attack, begins by broadcasting signals synchronized with the genuine signals observed by the target receiver. The power of the counterfeit signals is then gradually increased and drawn away from the genuine signals.
On Wednesday 20 December 2006 Southend travelled to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter final of the League Cup, Southend put in a brave performance and with neither goalkeeper really tested the game went to extra time. Jermain Defoe scored the only goal of the game in the 119th minute which video replays showed was in fact offside. Darryl Flahavan, Kevin Maher and Alan McCormack all urged the referee to watch the replay on the scoreboard to show the goal should not stand but their appeals fell on deaf ears and were all booked for their protests. After seeing off Barnsley in the FA Cup Southend were once again drawn away to Spurs on 27 January 2007.
Their best away win was 5–2 away against Galston, seven days previously on 11 April 1925. In 1937 Peebles Rovers moved from their traditional home in Victoria Park to Whitestone park, after a local businessman successfully managed to acquire planning rights to the eastern end of Victoria Park, intending substantial development that was subsequently curtailed due to the start of World War II. Peebles Rovers themselves were active long before the Third Division, being formed in 1893, and have played in the Scottish Cup proper over twenty times. Their first appearance was back in 1907–08, when they lost 4–0 away to Celtic. In their first 11 appearances, they were drawn away from home on each and every occasion, spanning 19 ties in all.
Graham increased the average age of United's squad for the 1970–71 season with the summer signings of ex-England international Ray Crawford, Brian Garvey, John Kurila, Mick Mahon and Brian Owen. In the FA Cup, United disposed of non-League Ringmer via a Crawford hat trick in round one and then defeated Cambridge United in round two. Colchester knocked out non-League Barnet at Underhill in the third round only to be drawn away to Rochdale. Trailing 3–1 with just five minutes left, United staged a remarkable comeback to earn a replay. With the knowledge of the Fifth Round draw having been made, United trounced hapless Dale by 5–0 to earn a home tie with mighty Leeds on 13 February 1971.
Dumbarton were drawn away against Smithston Hibs in the first round of the Scottish Cup on 6 September, but as the opponents did not have a suitable standard of ground the match was switched to Boghead. Alex Miller took McDonlad's place in the half back line, The Sons were firm favorites for this tie and were a goal ahead from McNaught within five minutes. In the end Dumbarton eased through with an 8–2 win. The early pace setters in the league, Dumbarton and Rangers met on 13 September at Boghead, An unchanged side took the field, The Sons were quick off the mark and goals from Bell(2) and Mair had the home side well ahead by half time.
Also compelling was the possibility of missionary work in some distant land, an opportunity that rarely arose in a Protestant stronghold. Bradford lists some of the reasons which the Puritans had to leave, including the discouragements that they faced in the Netherlands and the hope of attracting others by finding "a better, and easier place of living", the children of the group being "drawn away by evil examples into extravagance and dangerous courses", and the "great hope, for the propagating and advancing the gospel of the kingdom of Christ in those remote parts of the world." Edward Winslow's list was similar. In addition to the economic worries and missionary possibilities, he stressed that it was important for the people to retain their English identity, culture, and language.
Concession stands can be seen on the first level, seating on the second, and sky boxes on the third. The 1996 season marked the last that Schmittou was the team's president and part majority owner. With the city prepared to welcome a National Football League franchise, which was to become the Tennessee Titans, Schmittou felt that revenue would be drawn away from his baseball team, so he and businessman Walter Nipper sold their 59 percent stake in the Sounds to Chicago-based businessmen Al Gordon, Mike Murtaugh, and Mike Woleben. The new ownership group, operating as AmeriSports Companies LLC, refurbished every area of the stadium, including the concession stands, bathrooms, concourse, stadium exterior, home clubhouse (a visitor's clubhouse had been built under the third base bleachers for the 1996 season), and parking lots.
Despite this success by the summer of 1965 it seemed that finance was again a major problem at the Club. A strict budget left the club short of players, resulting in a disappointing 16th-place finish, although they did manage to reach the final of the Southern League Cup again. They went on better the next year, winning the Southern League Cup with a 2–1 aggregate success over Barnet. In 1967–68 City had a notable FA Cup run. Drawn away to Brentford the City were leading 2–1 when the match was abandoned during the second half because of snow. A second trip to Griffin Park ended with a 2–2 draw and meant a replay at Joseph's Road in front of 7,500 fans who roared City to a famous 2–1 victory.
Ferguson later described December 1989 as "the darkest period [he had] ever suffered in the game", as United ended the decade just outside the relegation zone. Following a run of seven games without a win, Manchester United were drawn away to Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup. Forest were performing well that season and were in the process of winning the League Cup for the second season running, and it was expected that United would lose the match and Ferguson would consequently be sacked, but United won the game 1–0 due to a Mark Robins goal and eventually reached the final. This cup win is often cited as the match that saved Ferguson's Old Trafford career, even though it has since been stated that his job was never at risk.
In 1888 they joined the Combination, a league set up after the Football League. However, the Combination was run chaotically and was disbanded in April 1889. During the 1888–89 FA Cup the club was drawn away to Chatham Town in the first round, but arrived to discover that the match was played on an open field where no admission was taken to cover their transport costs; after a complaint was filed with the Lancashire County Football Association, the Football Association changed FA Cup entry rules to require clubs to play matches in an enclosed ground. At the end of the first season of the Football League, a re- election process was held, with the bottom four of the league challenged by applicants for membership in a vote held on 3 May 1889.
Visionary Fiction pioneer, Hal Zina Bennett describes the genre thus: "Visionary fiction often deals with the stuff that happens at the edge between inner and outer, glimpsing those moments when the ‘thin veil’, the boundary between inner and outer worlds, dissolves or is at least briefly drawn away. Every moment of our lives there's some of that interchange between inner and outer, of course. Our ‘visionary fiction’ focuses on that phenomenon itself. Stories written in this genre draw our attention to how our visions inform us and impact our lives... The ‘vision’ part of visionary fiction is the vehicle that carries us to the filmy veil separating our ability to know from what we can't know." Visionary fiction, he concludes, generally acknowledges something bigger, limitless, actually, beyond what Aldous Huxley called the ‘phenomenological’ world.
In recent years Oakwell Stadium has rarely been used by anyone other than Barnsley FC, apart from the occasional 'celebrity' charity football match. Wakefield Trinity Wildcats rugby league club used the stadium for their first game in the Super League in 1998. Non-league football club Wakefield and Emley used the stadium for an FA Cup tie against Rotherham in 1998, choosing a larger neutral venue as opposed to the traditional option of 'switching' the tie to the home of the team which was drawn away. Premier League side Manchester City used the stadium for their first qualifying round UEFA Cup game in July 2008, since the pitch at the City Of Manchester Stadium was unsuitable for football after the summer's commercial activities, such as boxing and music concerts, and was being re-turfed.
Many believe that most of the Argentine A-4 Skyhawks and Daggers successes were achieved because the British Sea Harriers had been drawn away from more important targets : On one of these flights, on June 7, an Air Force Learjet was shot down over Pebble Island by a surface-to-air Sea Dart missile fired by HMS Exeter, killing the squadron commander, Vice Commodore Rodolfo De La Colina, and the other four members of the crew. De La Colina became the highest ranking Argentine officer to die in the War.Reconocimiento fotográfico y diversión, Argentine Air Force Official Site Civilian helicopters were also added to the unit for use in the search and rescue role in the continent. The Holidays' debut album Post Paradise soon followed, after several months of writing and experimenting. Drawn away from the simplicity of their earlier indie guitar manifestation, Post Paradise showed the band's development with both the groove and layers of a song, combined with their recognizable pop hooks. This album differed from previous recordings by The Holidays' in that it was self-produced and recorded in various locations around Sydney and New South Wales. "Moonlight Hours", the first single from their debut album was taken to radio in November 2009, and added to high rotation on national youth radio station Triple J. "Golden Sky" was the second single from The Holidays debut album, released in May 2010, which was followed by an east coast tour of Australia to promote the release.
Following the arrival of De Canio, Rangers endured defeats at the hands of Coventry, Stoke, Blackpool and Crystal Palace before a brief run of four games without defeat in mid-December indicated signs of a recovery. On 11 December 2007 QPR were drawn away from home at Chelsea in the third round of the FA Cup, a tie due to be played on 5 January 2008. The fixture would be the first competitive West London derby between the two sides since 1996. The Christmas and New Year period was largely successful for the club with Rangers bouncing back from a defeat at Plymouth on Boxing Day and picking up wins away from home at second-placed Watford (4-2) and at Loftus Road against fellow strugglers Leicester (3-1).
The rebelling Benjaminites killed about thirty in the highways and in the field, anticipating another victory where unaware of the trap that had been set as the confederated Israelites appeared to retreat and the Benjaminites were drawn away from the city to the highways in pursuit, one of which goes up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah. Those besieging the city sent up a great cloud of smoke as a signal, and the Israelite main force wheeled around to attack. When the Benjaminites saw their city in flames, and that the retreat had been a ruse, they panicked and routed toward the desert, pursued by the confederated Israelites. About 600 survived the onslaught and made for the more defensible rock of Rimmon where they remained for four months.
On 3 December Reading suffered a 1–0 home defeat to Queens Park Rangers, dropping to 11th but remaining within one win of the play-offs. The following morning, 4 December, Steve Clarke was sacked as manager of the club, with Under-21 manager Martin Kuhl taking over in an interim role. On 7 December, Reading were drawn away to Huddersfield Town in the Third Round of the FA Cup. On 9 December, Samuel had his loan spell with Gillingham extended until 2 January 2016. On 10 December, Rob Dickie extended his loan with Cheltenham Town until the end of January, with Aaron Kuhl returning early from his loan spell with Dundee United on 14 December. Martin Kuhl's first game in charge of Reading was a loss away to Preston North End on 12 December.
Joe Mattock signed on a three- year-contract after his contract ran out at West Bromwich Albion. On 14 June 2012, 2012–13 Football League Cup draw was made and Wednesday found out which team they would play in their first competitive match of the season. The Owls were drawn away to Oldham Athletic, a team who the side will be familiar with after being in the same league as them the previous season. Later that same day Sheffield Wednesday revealed the game would be live on Sky Sports, and be a day earlier than the majority of the rest of the games in Round 1, on Monday 13 August. 4 days after the League Cup draw, the fixtures for the 2012–13 Football League Championship were announced.
Foyle spent almost four years as manager after this, but the style of football the team were playing did him few favours as Vale finished 17th and 13th in his first two full campaigns in charge despite promising starts. Arguably the club's best recent achievements came in the two major cup competitions in the calendar year of 2006. Vale made it to the 4th round of the FA Cup in 2005–06 which was the club's first appearance at that stage since the club's giantkilling exploits a decade earlier. Vale were drawn away to Premier League Aston Villa but were defeated 3–1, holding the Birmingham side well into the 2nd period before succumbing to 2 Milan Baroš strikes and although Nathan Lowndes pulled one back, Steven Davis scored Villa's third.
Because of the likelihood of player death, the phrase "Press X to not die" has become synonymous with the use of QTEs in game. Furthermore, when a QTE is used during such a scene, the player's attention is drawn away from the animation and instead to the area of the screen where the button control indicator would appear, rendering the effort put into animating the scene meaningless. Another problem with the use of QTE during cutscenes is that it can dilute the emotion and importance of the scene to a single button press, trivializing the nature of the scene. This issue was raised from Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, in which during an early scene where the player character attends the funeral of a fallen fellow soldier, the player is given the option to press a button to mourn for the soldier.
In those days, progress in the FA Cup provided a significant income stream, and in 1931, the club was on the verge of financial failure. Drawn away to Newark Town in the first round, Halifax conceded an early goal, but after Newark lost a man to injury, they equalised by half- time. The second half was a rearguard action as Halifax clung on to the draw, and then won the replay and their second-round tie before losing in the third round: His services were not retained at the end of the 1931–32 season, and he and Halifax teammate John McFarlane moved on to Northampton Town. Strang was little used in Northampton's first team, and in the summer of 1933, he joined Darlington, for whom he played 171 matches in the Third Division North before finishing his senior career in 1938.
In the next round, they were drawn away to Albion Rovers of the Scottish Third Division, and caused a shock by winning 1–0.Scottish Cup wins for Sunnybank and Bo'Ness, BBC Sport, 23 October 2010 Their reward in the third round was a match away to Scottish Second Division side Ayr United. However, their run in the Scottish Cup was to come to an end as they were beaten 5–0. Owing to the resignation of their management team and a lack of signed players, the club were on the verge of taking a year out in July 2011 with the intention of returning for the start of the 2012–13 season,Sunnybank right out of the game Press & Journal, 28 July 2011 however they continued after a deal was agreed to use the youth players of local rivals Banks O' Dee.
Austria's attention was drawn away from Italy at a time when it appeared the ironclad arms race between the two nations was fading. In late 1863, the Schleswig-Holstein Question once again captured the attention of most of the German Confederation after Christian IX of Denmark became King of Denmark and Duke of Schleswig and Holstein. He declared the Duchy of Schleswig an integral part of Denmark in a violation of the London Protocol of 1852, which emphasized the status of the Kingdom of Denmark as distinct from the independent Duchies of Schleswig and Holstein. The annexation of the largely German populations of Schleswig and Holstein gave the German Confederation a casus belli to use against Denmark, and the Second Schleswig War began when Prussian and Austrian troops crossed the border into Schleswig in February 1864.
The phrase "Hampstead Heathens" is found as early as 1860, used by literary critic David Masson to refer to the circle of authors, living on Hampstead Heath in the early nineteenth century, that included John Keats. The football club is known to have existed as of December 1868, when it is recorded as playing a match against its neighbour N.N. Club of Kilburn. The Heathens would proceed to play against many other London clubs over the 1868-9, 1869–70 and 1870-1 seasons. The club joined the Football Association (FA) during the 1869-70 season.FA minute book, reported in In 1871, the Heathens were one of the twelve teams to enter the challenge cup being organised by the FA. They received a bye into the second round of the competition, where they were drawn away to Barnes.
In the middle of the tunnel, there is a switch-over and a 450 m long station (not intended for public use), the latter is accessible via an adit. Roughly 50 years following its completion, it was recognised that a persistent rise in traffic along the route would soon require greater capacity to satisfy. Simultaneously, there was also pressure for the infrastructure to meet new operational standards as part of a wider effort to bring Italy's railway network into a greater conformance with European norms and to better integrate with its neighbours, especially in regards to the fledgling high speed railway network that was expanding across the continent. Accordingly, the Bologna–Florence high-speed railway was constructed during the 1990s; its completion has seen some passenger traffic being drawn away from the older Bologna-Florence Direttissima line and the Apennine Base Tunnel alike.
Yeovil began the month with a home Football League Trophy tie against Football League Two side Wycombe Wanderers, courtesy of first-half goals from midfielders Ed Upson and Sam Foley Yeovil recorded a comfortable 2–0 victory. The victory meant that Yeovil had qualified for the Southern Area Semi-finals the furthest they had ever reached in the competition, in the draw for this match on 8 December Yeovil were drawn away against League One rivals Leyton Orient. The same day Yeovil faced Notts County at home and despite multiple chances and saves forced from visiting keeper Bartosz Białkowski were forced to be content with a 0–0 draw. Manager Gary Johnson announced after the match that Watford defender Dale Bennett had returned to his parent club a month early after just one substitute appearance due to a back injury.
The club experience its first relegation at the end of the 2015–16 season finishing in twentieth position in the twenty-four-team National League South. Since their formation Havant & Waterlooville have also participated in three cup competitions each season, the FA Cup, the FA Trophy and the Hampshire Senior Cup (excluding 2007–08). Their furthest run in the FA Cup saw the club reach the fourth round of the 2007–08 season; the club, being in the Conference South, were drawn away to Premier League side Liverpool, they caused an upset by leading twice before eventually losing 5–2; before being drawn to face Liverpool they had already eliminated three teams from higher divisions: York City (Conference Premier), Notts County (League Two) and Swansea City (League One). Their furthest FA Trophy run has seen the club reach the semi-finals twice in 2002–03 and 2013–14.
The 1996 season marked the last that Schmittou was the team's president and part owner. With the city prepared to welcome a National Football League franchise, the Tennessee Titans, Schmittou felt that revenue would be drawn away from the baseball team, so he and businessman Walter Nipper sold their 59 percent stake in the Sounds to Chicago-based businessmen Al Gordon, Mike Murtaugh, and Mike Woleben for an estimated $4 million. In 1997, under the guidance of manager Tom Spencer, Nashville put together a 74–68 campaign, but a third-place finish excluded them from the playoffs. In addition to being selected for both the midseason and postseason All-Star teams, outfielder Magglio Ordóñez won the Triple-A All-Star Game MVP Award and garnered the league's Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year Awards. Ordóñez had led the league with 172 hits and tied for first with a .
The club became North Shields F.C. at the start of the 1928–29 season and were immediately divisional champions and promoted back to Division 1 of the North Eastern League where they remained playing (except for a seven-year suspension of the league caused by the Second World War) until 1958. North Shields achieved their best to date performance in the FA Cup in reaching the second round proper in 1933–34 (this feat was not equalled for forty-nine years). In the first round Shields defeated Midland League Scarborough 3–0 at Appleby Park. They were drawn away in the next round to local rivals Football League Third Division North club Gateshead who won the tie, 1–0. A few years prior to the war-time cessation, in 1936 the club saw their record attendance at Appleby Park of 12,800 in a local derby match against South Shields.
The Plymouth Admirals were formed in October 1984 by Adrian Patrick, they played two matches in their first year of competition, scoring victories over the Weston Stars and the Bristol Bombers. They entered the Budweiser League Channel Division Two in 1986 and proceeded to win their division with a perfect 10–0 record, achieving a shutout in six of their matches including a huge 91–0 win over the Weston Stars. Unfortunately, they were drawn away to Northants Stormbringers in their first playoff match – facing a team who had finished second in the Atlantic Premier Division, they were always the underdogs and they lost 8–35 to the eventual semi-finalists. The following season saw them finish second in the Southwest conference of the Budweiser League's Premier Division – however, this was not enough to qualify for the playoffs due to the structuring of the league.
Just as the previous season, they finished with a 7–3 record which saw them finish second in their conference, but narrowly missed out on a playoff spot. 1990 was a somewhat mediocre season, losing four out of their first five matches before ending strongly, although their situation off the field was much healthier – they were now playing on a new astroturf pitch at the Plymouth Sports Centre and were attracting an average attendance of between 200 and 300 supporters for each home game. 1991 proved to be the best season in the club's history. After comfortably winning their conference with a perfect 10–0 record, conceding just 30 points in the process, they were drawn away to against wildcard qualifiers Gwent Mustangs in their first playoff match. This proved to be a very tight matchup until the last quarter when the Admirals pulled away to win 27–7.
The club also received a team performance of the round award for their victory over Bristol Rovers. On 8 September, on Soccer AM, Yeovil were drawn away against Torquay United in the second round of the Football League Trophy, later in the day saw a tired performance in the club's first league defeat 1–0 at home against Bournemouth. On 15 September, Norwich City midfielder Korey Smith joined Yeovil on an emergency loan deal for the maximum period of 93 days, he made his debut as a substitute that afternoon in the 1–0 away defeat against MK Dons as Yeovil slipped to a second consecutive defeat. The following Tuesday saw Yeovil travel to play Leyton Orient and with a frail defensive display Yeovil suffered a heavy 4–1 defeat, with the only positive a first league goal for Sam Foley and slipped to 11th in the table.
After finishing as runners-up in the league in 1926–27, they moved up to Division One of the Kent League. The 'original' Kent League 1922–1939 Non- League Matters In 1931 Tilbury transferred to the Premier Division of the London League.London League 1928–1950 Non-League Matters At the start of World War II, the club joined the South Essex Combination, but temporarily disbanded at the end of the 1939–40 season after their ground was commandeered by the army. Upon resuming play at the end of the war, they were Premier Division runners-up in 1946–47 and 1947–48, and again in 1949–50, a season that saw the club reach the first round proper of the FA Cup for the first time after playing nine qualifying matches. Drawn away to Third Division South club Notts County in the first round, they lost 4–0.
Tilbury won the Division Two title at the first attempt, earning promotion to Division One. They went on to win the Division One title in 1968–69 and were promoted to the Premier Division. Following a third-place finish in the Premier Division in 1972–73, the club joined the newly formed Division Two of the Isthmian League. They won the division in 1975–76 and were promoted to Division One, which was renamed the Premier Division in 1977. In 1977–78 the club reached the FA Cup first round again; after defeating Kettering Town 3–2 in a second replay (the first match was declared null and void as Tilbury had used an ineligible player), they went on to beat Nuneaton Borough 2–1 in the second round, before being drawn away to Second Division Stoke City in the third round, a match they lost 4–0.
On February 17, 2016, Northlands unveiled plans to convert Northlands Coliseum into a multi-level ice facility, with a later proposal calling for a partnership with Hockey Canada to make it a Hockey Canada Centre of Excellence, but it was later discovered that renovating the Coliseum would be more costly than building a new facility. As more major concerts and other events were drawn away to Rogers Place, Northlands experienced declines in revenue. This made it difficult for the non-profit organization to pay off a loan by the City that was used to fund the 2009 expansion of the Edmonton Expo Centre. On September 13, 2017, the City of Edmonton reached an agreement to take over the arena from Northlands effective January 1, 2018 (the same date that control of the Edmonton Expo Centre transferred to the Edmonton Economic Development Corporation under a similar agreement), as it prepared to transition to primarily being an agricultural organization.
Even the Italic League – the combination of the five major powers of Italy that had been born out of the Treaty of Lodi of 1454 – was constantly undergoing internal realignments. Both Louis XI and his father Charles VII had been too busy with their struggles with Burgundy to pay much attention to political affairs smoldering in Italy. Additionally, Louis had his attention drawn away from Italy by disagreements with the rulers of England and his struggles with Maximilian of Austria, who married the heir of Charles the Bold, Mary of Burgundy, and wanted to keep her territorial inheritance intact. However, the death of the Duke of Burgundy in 1477, which conclusively settled the issue of Burgundy's position under the French throne, the conclusion of the Treaty of Picquigny with England in 1475 and the peaceful resolution in 1482 of the disposition of the "Burgundian inheritance" left to Mary of Burgundy finally allowed Louis XI to turn his attention to Italy.
Managers of factories in regulated industries—usually high-level Party cadres—have been selling factory produce on the free market at grossly inflated prices. Inflation and corruption had become so embedded in the system by 1988, that the leadership was forced to take some drastic economic measures. In response to the general economic malaise, Prime Minister Li Peng adopted several austerity measures in the middle of 1988. The primary goal of these measures was to reduce economic growth and included such measures as limiting joint ventures, curtailing capital investment, tightening fiscal and monetary controls, reimposing centralised control on local construction projects and cuts in capital investment. China's eighth Five Year Plan (1991–1995) reflected the goals of slowing the economy down to a manageable level after the excesses of the late 1980s. The growth rate of GNP was planned to average 6% per annum, and government investment to be drawn away from national construction programs towards agriculture, transportation and communications.
After Natalie runs upstairs to her bedroom, where Henry is waiting to talk with her, Diana questions Dan as to why he stays, despite all of the things she puts him through and all the pain they have experienced together. He reminds her of their wedding vows and promises to see their relationship through, no matter how much she pushes him away. Upstairs, Henry makes a similar pledge to Natalie (“Why Stay?/A Promise”). However, Diana once again sees Gabe and is immediately entranced by him, drawn away from Dan (“I’m Alive – Reprise”). Though Dan begs her to stay, Diana leaves and visits Dr. Madden, frustrated that years of treatment haven't seemed to improve her condition and wonders if her grief over losing her son should truly be medicated (“The Break”). Dr. Madden pleads with her to stay with him, recommending more shock treatment and other medications, but she leaves the appointment (“Make Up Your Mind/Catch Me I’m Falling (reprise)”).
Over 800 Wrexham fans were present at Kenilworth Road. During the 2011–12 season, Wrexham FC were invited back into the Welsh Cup after 16 years, entering at the third round stage. Their first game was at home to Airbus UK, but a schedule clash meant that the club were required to play two games on 3 December 2011, one against Airbus, and the other against Brentford FC in the second round of the FA Cup. Although the scratch side fielded against Airbus lost, the first team fielded against Brentford produced a shock 1–0 win. On 4 December Wrexham were drawn away to Brighton and Hove Albion FC in the third round of the FA Cup in which they drew 1–1, with the away side's goal coming from Adrian Cieslewicz. The replay, at the Racecourse Ground was also 1–1, with Brighton and Hove Albion FC winning 5–4 on penalties.
After beating Rotherham County in a qualifying tie, Palace were drawn away to Newcastle United in the First Round proper. Newcastle had played in the previous two FA Cup Finals, were league champions in 1905 and were on their way to another title. In what still stands as one of the club's greatest ever wins, Palace scored through Horace Astley against the run of play and then held off Newcastle to come away with a shock 1–0 win. The second and third rounds saw Palace dispose of Fulham and Brentford respectively, the latter after a replay, and in the quarter-finals, Palace were drawn at home to First Division club Everton, who were flying high in second place. In front of a then record crowd of 35,000, Palace took the lead, but their opponents equalised taking the tie to a replay, where Everton proved too strong, running out 4–0 winners.
Entering at the first round stage as a reward for winning the Amateur Cup the previous season, they defeated Wimbledon in the first round, Watford in a second round replay, and Stockport County in the third round, becoming the first amateur club to reach the fourth round for 24 years."Electric Avenue" When Saturday Comes, February 2013, p34 Drawn away to Old Trafford, they held Manchester United to a 1–1 draw, before losing the replay, which was moved to Highbury, 5–2. The following season saw the club defeat Gillingham in the first round of the FA Cup before losing to Ipswich Town in a second round replay. In 1954–55 they won their third and final Isthmian League title, and also reached the second round of the FA Cup again after defeating QPR in a second replay in the first round, the last time they defeated a Football League club.
Vale faced a home tie with League Two side Stevenage in the First Round of the FA Cup, and managed to progress by edging a narrow game 1–0, but were booed off by sections of the home support. Witnessed by a crowd of just 3,093 (only 173 of which were Stevenage fans), this was Vale's lowest attendance for a home FA Cup tie since 1906; this was despite ticket prices being almost halved to £12 on the day. They then cruised to a 4–0 victory at home to League Two side Hartlepool United to make it into the Third Round. Huddersfield Town, fourth in the Championship, proved far superior to the Vale in the Third Round, as they cruised to a 4–0 win at the John Smith's Stadium. Vale were drawn away to League Two club Carlisle United in the First Round of the newly re-branded EFL Cup, and lost the game 2–1 after conceding two goals in a poor first half.
Sheffield Wednesday, whose last major honour had been the FA Cup in 1935, were fresh from relegation to the Second Division when they were drawn against Third Division Brentford in the second round, winning 2–1 in each of the two legs to put them into the third round. There they met fellow Second Division side Swindon Town, who held them to a goalless draw at Hillsborough, before succumbing to a 1–0 defeat at the County Ground in the replay a week later. Wednesday required another replay in the fourth round, after they played out another draw at home to Derby County, but beat them 2–1 at the Baseball Ground two weeks later. The quarter-final saw Wednesday drawn away to Coventry City, where a 1–0 victory for Wednesday ended any hopes that Coventry's new player-manager Terry Butcher might have had of beginning his managerial career with silverware.
County's FA Cup began with a trip to Southern League Metropolitan Police. Goals either side of half time by Pádraig Amond and Jamille Matt completed a comfortable 2–0 win for Newport. County were again drawn away in the second round, this time to National League side Wrexham. The game, broadcast on BT Sport, ended in a 0–0 draw, necessitating a reply at Rodney Parade. The draw for the third round had been made before the replay had taken place, with the winners rewarded with a home tie against 2015–16 Premier League champions Leicester City. Newport won the replay 4–0 and had still to concede a goal in the competition. In the third round, televised on the BBC, County took the lead against Leicester after just 10 minutes thanks to a Jamille Matt header. With the clock ticking down towards full time, Leicester's Rachid Ghezzal scored an equaliser in the 82nd minute.
The two sides were again drawn at home in the third round, both against Second Division opposition. Manchester United beat Portsmouth 3–1 in their tie, with two goals from Mark Robins and one from Bryan Robson cancelling out John Beresford's goal for the visitors, while Forest beat Bristol Rovers 2–0. Home ties again awaited both teams in the fourth round, both against First Division opponents for the first time in the competition, with Manchester United beating Oldham Athletic 2–0 thanks to goals from McClair and Andrei Kanchelskis, while Forest could only manage a goalless draw against Southampton, before a 1–0 win in the replay at The Dell. The quarter-final saw both teams drawn away for the first time in the competition, again against First Division opposition, with Manchester United beating local rivals Leeds United 3–1 at Elland Road, with goals from Clayton Blackmore, Kanchelskis and Giggs securing the victory after Leeds took an early lead through Gary Speed.
The unitive way (, théōsis "deification") is the way of those who are in the state of the perfect, that is, those who have their minds so drawn away from all temporal things that they enjoy great peace, who are neither agitated by various desires nor moved to any great extent by passion, and who have their minds chiefly fixed on God and their attention turned, either always or very frequently, to Him. It is the union with God by love and the actual experience and exercise of that love. It is called the state of "perfect charity", because souls who have reached that state are ever prompt in the exercise of charity by loving God habitually and by frequent and efficacious acts of that Divine virtue. It is called the "unitive" way because it is by love that the soul is united to God, and the more perfect the charity, the closer and more intimate is the union.
Manley and Bodnar were replaced with John Russell and Wayne Gould not long after the goal. Russell and Gould had started playing as juniors at Moturoa in the 1970s. Later the press would excuse an AFC Bournemouth side looking tired at the end, "Possibly a hurried tour of New Zealand at the end of a demanding English season had taken its toll," in the Taranaki Herald. The Taranaki side's victory was said to be "attained through total concentration, some skill, honest guts and some good luck." by the Herald. 1980 to 1984: Moturoa did not enter the Chatham Cup. 1985: A 3–1 round one victory at home against Wanganui City. In round two Palmerton North End were drawn away and had the fortune to see Moturoa lose their keeper early on and yet only concede defeat after extra-time, the result 3–1. 1986: Moturoa play Woodleigh Cosmos in round two at Onuku Taipari with 7–0 the score.
In the Swiss League Cup Schönenberger played all four games and scored four goals. In the Swiss Cup he played three games and also scored four goals. In the Swiss League Cup Basel advanced to the final which was played on St. Jakob Stadium on 1 May 1979.
Philip Van Artevelde had fallen at the Battle of Roosebeke and the country had been compelled to submit to the French king, who obliged all the conquered towns to recognise Clement VII. In response to events in Flanders, Pope Urban issued bulls for the proclamation of a crusade, choosing Bishop Despenser to lead a campaign against the followers of Clement VII in Flanders. He granted Despenser extraordinary powers for the fulfillment of his mission and plenary indulgence to those who should take part in or contribute support to it. Both the commons and King Richard II were enthusiastic about the launch of a crusade to Flanders, for political and economic reasons: revenues from the English wool staple (that had ceased following the advance of the French) could be resumed; sending the bishop and not the king or his uncles to Flanders would enable John of Gaunt's unpopular plans for a royal crusade to Castille to be abandoned; French forces would be drawn away from the Iberian peninsula; and Anglo-Flemish relations would be strengthened.
On the first evening of the month London Broncos were drawn away to play Betfred Championship club, Halifax R.L.F.C. in Round 5 of the Coral Challenge Cup, with the tie to be played on Thursday 11 April. London Broncos returned to Super League action on the month's first Friday, with a fixture away at high-flying Warrington Wolves. The much changed Londoners, with local products, James Meadows and Matt Davies making their top-flight debuts began brightly, but crucially failed to turn possession into points during a competitive opening forty minutes, and despite managing to cross the whitewash twice in the second half courtesy of Nathan Mason and Matty Gee, Danny Ward's outfit ultimately fell to a brave (12-48) loss in front of a healthy crowd of 11,718, to leave the Broncos in eleventh position and the Wolves top of the twelve team Super League table. The London Broncos travelled north again six days later to play Betfred Championship club, Halifax R.L.F.C. in Round 5 of the Coral Challenge Cup.
The club ultimately finished 15th in the league, after a disappointing slump saw them win just five out of their last 22 league matches between January and April. AFC Wimbledon made an equally slow start to the 2017–18 campaign, managing just five wins in their first 20 league matches between August and December. On 3 December 2017, the club recorded a 3–1 win over South London derby rivals Charlton Athletic in the second round of the FA Cup. The club were subsequently rewarded by being drawn away against Tottenham Hotspur in the third round with the match being played at Wembley Stadium on 7 January 2018. On 13 December 2017, the club received a further boost after being granted permission to begin work on constructing a new 9,300-seater stadium (which could be expanded to hold up to 20,000 in the future) on the site of Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium. The new ground will be only away from the original Plough Lane (1912–98), Wimbledon's home from 1912 until 1991.
A notable saint in the nineteenth century was St. Jean Vianney who converted hundreds of people in laicist France. Pope John XXIII said of him: "You cannot begin to speak of St. John Mary Vianney without automatically calling to mind the picture of a priest who was outstanding in a unique way in voluntary affliction of his body; his only motives were the love of God and the desire for the salvation of the souls of his neighbors, and this led him to abstain almost completely from food and from sleep, to carry out the harshest kinds of penances, and to deny himself with great strength of soul...[T]his way of life is particularly successful in bringing many men who have been drawn away by the allurement of error and vice back to the path of good living." During the later part of the nineteenth century, Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, another Doctor of the Church, at three years of age was described by her mother: "Even Thérèse is anxious to practice mortification.” Thérèse later wrote: "My God, I will not be a saint by halves.
Somerset were drawn away at Trent Bridge against Nottinghamshire in the quarter-finals, Notts won the toss and elected to bat and scored an impressive total of 170 with Alex Hales top scoring with 78, Somerset started their innings slowly and it seemed they wouldn't get anywhere near their target and needed 64 off the final 31 deliveries but with Kieron Pollard and Jos Buttler at the crease they crossed the line with five balls remaining. That victory meant a third successive finals day and a rematch with Hampshire yet again and with bad weather looming Somerset won the toss and elected to field first hoping to take advantage of batting second with the Duckworth–Lewis method. Expensive bowling from the spinners and Pollard, Hampshire reached 138 off 15.5 overs propelled by 80 off just 41 balls from Shahid Afridi, with rain ending their innings one ball early Somerset were set a challenging 95 to win off just 10 overs and despite a cameo from Buttler Somerset fell one run short and required a Super Over to decide the match. Somerset sent in Kieswetter and Buttler for their over and scored 16 off Afridi's over and Alfonso Thomas restricted Hampshire to just 5-1 in their one over.
In the late seventies, Frei's outlook began to shift. He found himself increasingly drawn away from purely intellectual history and towards social history; in tandem he found his doubts about aspects of the Identity and Eclipse phase of his work crystallizing in a shift away from more theoretical hermeneutical solutions towards more social, "cultural-linguistic" – and, we might say, more ecclesiological and pneumatological – solutions. In the 1978 George F. Thomas Lecture, he issued what can in retrospect be seen as something of a personal manifesto, using the word "sensibility" to denote the object of a kind of historical study which would look for the shape and development of religious styles, attitudes and doctrines firmly embedded in the development and interaction of social institutions of various overlapping kinds. In 1981, he spent some time in England during which he looked, on advice from Owen Chadwick, at visitation returns and sermons from the eighteenth century life of a couple of English parishes, hoping to find a way to combine the more social and cultural historical insights which these things gave him into the Christianity of the time with the insights he had hitherto gained through a more traditional study of well-known high-culture theologians and philosophers.

With less than 10 minutes to go Neil Warnock was sent-off for Cardiff City, before goals from Joe Bennett and Lee Tomlin rescued a point for the visitors.

Darlington lost in both the second and the third rounds of the 1999–2000 FA Cup. Manchester United's decision to play in the FIFA Club World Championship rather than the FA Cup left a space in the third round which the organisers filled by drawing lots from among the 20 teams eliminated in the second. Darlington were the "lucky losers", and were beaten 2–1 by Aston Villa in the third round after losing 3–1 to Gillingham in the second.
