Mämmilä is a fictional small country municipality, supposedly in the Häme region, and was originally modeled on the municipality of Orivesi. The cartoon depicted various contemporary issues in Finnish life, from various social changes to the coming of African refugees and membership in the European Union. The municipality has numerous colorful characters, from local political leaders and potentates to Varpu-Viljami (local dowser) and Mohammed al-Zomal (Somalian refugee).

Some have suggested that the Saqqara Bird may represent evidence that knowledge of the principles of aviation existed many centuries before such are generally believed to have first been discovered. Egyptian physician and dowser Khalil Messiha has speculated that the ancient Egyptians developed the first aircraft. In spite of these claims, however, no ancient Egyptian aircraft have ever been found, nor has any other evidence suggesting their existence come to light. As a result, the theory that the Saqqara Bird is a model of a flying machine is not accepted by mainstream Egyptologists.

The show was written by Brian and Jonathan Trueman (the former of whom was the writer of Danger Mouse) and was based in a fictionalized version of the Northern English village of Sabden, in Pendle, where treacle is (allegedly) a natural resource extracted through mines. However, the mines have run dry from overextraction, and the village may face destruction from a lack of economy. The main characters Wizzle and Rosie use a Treacle finder, similar to a water dowser, to discover a vein of treacle in the abandoned mines, bringing hope to the village. The two series focus on reopening the mines, and problems faced (such as exportation).

In professional Theatre, Auditoriums Arenas, Amphitheaters, Coliseums, Convention Centers, Performing Art Centers community and/or school theaters, Spot Ops may use a special tool called a Telrad. A Telrad is a cue alignment tool that came from Telescope's Finderscope. This tool device helps the Operator to align the follow spot, before any light leaves the follow spot (with the dowser closed in a pre-cue position) and/or for location reference during stage shots where the spotlight might become hard to see due to overall illumination of the stage, or when two spots lights are overlapping their respective assigned subjects. The operator when looking through a Telrad, will see multiple red ring circles (which can be dimmed to assist in low level lighting), this assists in aiming the follow spot.

During normal operation these small amounts of light that escape the Follow Spot housing, moving as the rear's position changes in reference to the front lenses, which the audience does not see, nor are distracted by them. Another study published in Pathophysiology hypothesized that such experiments as this one that were carried out in the 20th century could have been interfered with by man-made radio frequency radiation, as test subjects' bodies absorbed the radio waves and unconscious hand movement reactions took place following the standing waves or intensity variations.
