Butts Giraud is a Canadian entrepreneur, musician, author and a former professional football player and wrestler. He is the President and founder of The Dog's Ear T-shirt and Embroidery Company. He was a professional wrestler in North America and England. Giraud also won the world belly-flop and cannonball championships in 1975, 1976, 1978 and 1980.

In 1970, Giraud played in the Canadian Football League for the BC Lions preseason before being traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He founded The Dog's Ear T-shirt and Embroidery Company in 1975. The frequency range of dog hearing is between 16-40 Hz (compared to 20–70 Hz for humans) and up to 45–60 kHz (compared to 13–20 kHz for humans), which means that dogs can detect sounds far beyond the upper limit of the human auditory spectrum. Dogs have ear mobility that allows them to rapidly pinpoint the exact location of a sound. Eighteen or more muscles can tilt, rotate, raise, or lower a dog's ear.

There has been a negative response to Issue 6 - Hidden Horrors in the Home in the magazine adaption of the book series. The article named "Loony Lab" in this Horrible Science Collection had a section called "Grow your own manky microbes". A complainant, a biology teacher and parent, described it as "irresponsible in the extreme". The effect of the worms crawling in the host bodies was achieved with wires under fake skins, including a skin with hair for the dog. Digital effects were used for scenes involving the worms swimming in jars and entering the dog's ear. Although extra footage of the worm scenes was shot so they would last as long as intended if Fox's standards-and-practices officials asked for cuts, no edits were requested.
