Crystal Peaks first opened in 1988, being developed in phases. Opening ceremonies attracted large crowds to see Roland Rat and then Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards do the honours. To much applause, Olympic ski jumper Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards performed a stunt on wires from the top of the atrium above the escalators. Originally the central areas inside the shopping centre included a waterfall, a river, clock tower elevator and a model railway.

In January 2011, UCD Marian claimed a historic National Cup final win over defending cup champions Killester.UCD Marian snatch historic victory in Men's SuperLeague National Cup The win was the team's first major victory since 1978. Marian made it back to the National Cup final in 2015, where they lost to UCC Demons.C&S; UCC Demons do the honours in Men's National Cup final In January 2018, UCD Marian returned to the National Cup final, where they were defeated 68–62 by Templeogue.

The original plan had been to build the cathedral over the existing church, but there were so many difficulties to the plan that it was decided to begin on a new site on the corner of Dana and Lydiard Streets. The new deanery was completed on 26 April 1888. There was a ceremonial laying of the foundation stone of the cathedral on 30 November 1888, when the governor, Sir Henry Loch, came to do the honours. John Manifold laid £500 on the stone as a donation to the building fund.

After taking the lead he drifted to the right, but kept on to win a one and a half lengths from Mugharreb, with Bouncing Bowdler a further length back in third place. On 26 August, Invincible Spirit raced outside the United Kingdom for the first time, when he contested the Prix de Meautry. He took second place with 200 metres left to run, but could not catch the leader, Do The Honours, who won easily by three lengths. Hot Tin Roof finished in third place, one and a half lengths behind Invincible Spirit.

The ballad "It's Alright" was written and sung by drummer Bill Ward. Initially reluctant to sing the song for fear of offending Osbourne, he was encouraged by the band to do it. In his autobiography, Osbourne praises the performance, enthusing, "He's got a great voice, Bill, and I was more than happy for him to do the honours.

The torch was carried by 15-year-olds Stéphane Préfontaine and Sandra Henderson, chosen as representatives of the unity within Canada's linguistic heritage. This would also be the first time two people would light the Olympic flame, and Henderson would become only the second woman to do the honours. The duo would make a lap of the stadium and then climbed a staircase on a special dais at the center of the stadium to set the Olympic flame alight in a temporary white aluminum cauldron. The flame was later transported to a more permanent cauldron just outside the running track to burn throughout the duration of the Games.

On his first appearance of 2001, Kyllachy contested minor handicap over five furlongs at Sandown in April. Ridden by Kieren Fallon, he was held up at the rear of the fourteen runner field and struggled to obtain a clear run in the last quarter mile. When Fallon switched to the right in the closing stages, Kyllachy accelerated into the lead and drew away from the field to win "easily" by five lengths. After a break of three months, the colt was moved up in class and sent to France for the Listed Prix du Cercle at Deauville Racecourse on 2 August and finished second to the French-trained Do The Honours.

In Scotland, all undergraduate degrees with honours must be of four-year duration. Students can choose to do the honours degree or the general (or pass/ordinary) degree. The first two years of both types of degrees are the same; however, after that, students who pursue the honours route will complete more advanced subjects and a dissertation in their last year, while students who choose to do the general degree will complete their third year at a lower level of specialisation. Entry into the honours year in Scotland is generally not restricted and students are encouraged to take the honours year as the general/ordinary/pass degree does not provide the same level of depth and specialisation.
