Marquis Franklin "Bill" Horr (May 2, 1880 – July 1, 1955) was an American football player, coach, and Olympic track and field athlete. He played college football as a tackle at Syracuse University and was selected as an All- American in 1908. At Syracuse, Horr also competed in track and field. At the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, he won a silver medal in the Greek Style discus throw and a bronze in the freestyle discus throw.

Kenneth Hampden Pridie (8 March 1906 – 4 May 1963) was an English track and field athlete who competed in the 1930 British Empire Games and in the 1934 British Empire Games. He was born in Bristol. Four years later he won the bronze medal in the shot put contest and finished sixth in the discus throw event at the 1934 British Empire Games.

The pentathlon made its return as an Olympic event at the 1906 Games in Athens, consisting of a standing long jump, discus throw (ancient style), javelin throw, 192-metre run, and a Greco- Roman wrestling match. The 1912 Summer Olympics saw the introduction of two new types of the pentathlon. The first was the classic pentathlon, an athletics competition which was a variation on the Ancient Olympic pentathlon, comprising the long jump, javelin throw, 200 metres, discus throw, and a 1500 metres race. The competition featured at the 1920 and 1924 Summer Olympics but was discontinued thereafter.

Alfred Edward Flaxman (1 October 1879 - 1 July 1916) was a British track and field athlete who competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics. He was born in Wombwell, South Yorkshire and was killed in action in Gommecourt, Pas-de- Calais, France. In 1908, he participated in the discus throw competition, in the Greek discus throw event, in the freestyle javelin throw competition, and in the standing high jump event but in all these competitions his final ranking is unknown. Flaxman was killed in action during the First World War, serving as a second lieutenant with the South Staffordshire Regiment on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, aged 26.

Guo Jie (; January 16, 1912 – November 15, 2015) was a Chinese Olympic athlete who competed at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, where he was eliminated before reaching the final of the men's discus throw event. A multi-sport athlete in high school, Guo was inspired to attend the Olympics after hearing about Liu Changchun's participation at the 1932 Summer Games. He became the national discus throw champion at the 1935 Chinese National Games and set a new national record shortly before his journey to Berlin. Following the Olympics, Guo traveled to Japan, where he graduated with a degree in agricultural sciences from the University of Tokyo in 1942.

In May 1936 Guo set a new national record in the discus throw with distance of 41.07 m, which qualified him to join the Chinese delegation to the 1936 Summer Olympics. The team was burdened with a lack of financial backing, and Guo was provided no coach or training equipment.
