In the meantime, NBC Entertainment's chairman, Robert Greenblatt — who announced that "Hairspray" would probably be the network's next live musical — made reference to the fact that ABC is working on a "Dirty Dancing" musical and took a small victory lap at his Television Critics Association session: "If we spawned a little kind of uprising of musicals," he said, "that's great."
The moment when Lloyd Dobler held the boombox above his head as a grand gesture to his girlfriend in Say Anything, when John Bender walks off the football field and first bumps victoriously in The Breakfast Club, the closing scene of Dirty Dancing, all of them were re-imagined and shared with strangers in my small corner of the internet.
There are six social classes in Dirty Dancing, there's the Vietnam War, and there's all the stuff about race relations, and those were the things that I cared about, but I felt that the only way to get people into theaters to see them was to have them instinctively move into the film's fabric of love and wonderful music and dancing.
Brighter and brasher than anything of the group's debut LP, 2013's brittle Fires in the Park, "Final Form" (which we're premiering below) is a big, blocky, indie-club ready tune inspired by dirty dancing and Dragonball Z.
