Bijapur has a broad gauge station of South Western Railways about two kilometres from the city centre of Bijapur, Complete Info SWR with direct train connections to Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Hubli, Solapur and Shirdi. The state owned North West Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation runs buses to all parts of the district. Local buses run within Bijapur city limits as well as villages within a 15 km radius. The frequency of these buses are higher in comparison to those buses which ply on longer routes.

Also in 1894 newly included in the planning was a connecting curve between the stations Gumpendorfer road and Meidling main road. It should allow, despite the canceled track triangle at the Westbahnhof, direct train services between the belt line and the Westbahn. Through trains to and from Ikebukuro and Kawagoeshi on the Tojo Line operated until the 1970s. Between 1996 and 2003, a special direct train was operated between and on certain weekends in February during the plum blossom viewing season. The LNWR service initially comprised four trains per day, each way, between Buxton and Ashbourne and a single direct train from Buxton to London each way. A link road, called the Great Yorkshire Way, connects Doncaster Sheffield Airport to the M18 motorway, reducing the journey time from Sheffield city centre from 40 to 25 minutes. The second and final phase of the project, connecting the A638 to Hurst Lane, was completed in June 2018. Alcalá's excellent transport links with Madrid have led to its becoming a commuter town, with many of its inhabitants travelling to work in the capital. By Cercanias (railway) is the lines C2 and C7 that links Alcala de Henares with Madrid in 35 minutes, or Guadalajara in 25 minutes, also exists in the peak hours trains called CIVIS, direct train, that makes the journey in 20 minutes. On 23 March 1885, NZR opened the railway line between Palmerston North and New Plymouth, with a short branch from Aramoho to Wanganui. A year and a half later, on 3 November 1886, the privately owned Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company opened from Wellington to Longburn, a small village just south of Palmerston North, where it interchanged with NZR. This allowed a direct train to be run between Wellington and New Plymouth; this also formed part of a newer, quicker route to Auckland through connections with steamers between New Plymouth and Auckland's Onehunga Wharf.

On weekdays a daily morning direct service to London King's Cross operates via Leeds. On 20 January 2011 the Government owned East Coast Franchise Operator (East Coast Trains) announced that following strong local representations an evening return service is to be reinstated, providing a direct train from London to Harrogate 7 days a week from May 2011. In July 2014, the Tour de France Grand Depart 2014 was held in Yorkshire with stage 1 from Leeds to Harrogate and thousands of spectators were expected. Extra trains were operated in this occasion.

Class 143 with double-deck carriages near Ribnitz-Damgarten Ost Deutschen Bahn Stadler FLIRT railcars running as the Hanse-Express Regional services operate on the line at two-hour intervals between the two cities. Since December 2007, these have been operated using Stadler FLIRT railcars, which, because of their greater acceleration and higher speed, have reduced travel time on some sections. Before the introduction of the new railcars, trains often consisted of three double-decker cars hauled by a class 143 locomotive. On the Rostock–Rövershagen section there is an additional hourly direct train to Graal-Müritz.

Khamgaon is well connected by National Highway 6 (NH 6) and Central Railway's Mumbai–Kolkata railway line. The city is served by the Khamgaon railway station, which was built during the British Raj. A Khamgaon–Jalna Railway line was approved by the Railway Minister in 2016. Khamgoan Terminus railways station which runs a local train between Khamgaon to Jalamb there is a special direct train from Khamgaon to Pandharpur during Aashadhi Ekadashi wari the nearest railway stations are Malkapur, Jalamb Junction, Shegaon and Akola Junction, from which connections can be made to the broader rail network.

Dongguan serves as one of the regional railway hubs in Guangdong, where the Guangzhou-Kowloon Railway, Guangzhou-Meizhou-Shantou Railway and the Beijing-Kowloon Railway converge. Rail services in and out of the city call at Dongguan railway station where there are direct train services to Guangzhou East railway station in Guangzhou; and Hung Hom Railway station in Hong Kong. High-speed rail services are also available at Humen railway station. Among the four metro lines (Line 1-Line 4) planned for the Dongguan Rail Transit, Line 2 is presently under construction and was scheduled to open for operations in early 2015.

The is a commuter line operated in Japan by the private railway operator Keikyu. It connects with (at Tokyo International Airport) in Tokyo, and has Airport Express (エアポート急行), Limited Express (特急, 快特) and Airport Limited Express (エアポート快特) services, virtually all of which continue along the Keikyu Main Line either north to Shinagawa Station in central Tokyo with some trains continuing onto the Toei Asakusa Line, or south to Yokohama Station and onward towards Shinzushi Station. There is a switchback at Keikyū Kamata for direct train services between Yokohama Station and Haneda Airport.

Brussels National Airport railway station The Airport Railway Station is located under the airport building at level −1. The train station has direct services to Antwerp, Brussels, De Panne, Ghent, Hasselt, Landen, Leuven, Mechelen, Nivelles and Quévy. At least four trains per hour serve the most used link to Brussels South Railway Station, where international connections are offered by Eurostar (to London), Thalys (to Amsterdam, Avignon, Cologne, Essen, Lille, Marseille, Paris and Valence), ICE (to Cologne and Frankfurt), and Eurocity (to Basel, Bern, Chur, Luxembourg and Zürich). A direct train link with Leuven was opened on 12 December 2005.

As sleeping car fares were determined not by fare-kilometer but on a per-night basis, even in the case of a direct train between the two railways, the specified fare was simply collected in Korean yen at Mantetsu stations, and in Manchukuo yuan at National Railway stations. However, if a sleeper ticket was bought at a station of the railway other than the one from which the sleeping car was to depart from, the sleeper fare had to be paid in the currency used at the departure station.

Freight trains ran on Petrapole-Benapole, Gede-Darshana and Singhabad-Rohanpur lines off and on since 1972 after the independence of Bangladesh, and more regularly after transport agreements were signed by the two countries in the 1990s.Radhikapur-Birol section was another section for movement of goods traffic. As of 2002, the Gede-Darshana section accounted for the bulk of the exports handled by the Indian Railways (both the Eastern Railway and the Northeast Frontier Railway together) for Bangladesh. A direct train between Dhaka and Kolkata, named Maitree Express (Maitree is a Sanskrit word meaning friendship) commenced on 14 April 2008.

An employee of Bake, W. C. Brade, continued his plans, although he changed the route to run from Amsterdam to Rotterdam, with the original stretch running to Haarlem to test its economic viability. This change in route may have been partly influenced by wealthy investors who were eager for a direct train connection between either of the great Dutch ports (Amsterdam and Rotterdam). King William I was reluctant to have the Netherlands at a competitive disadvantage to the neighbouring countries who were all building railroads. He might also have felt threatened by the plans for the Iron Rhine.

According to the timetable valid from 30 October 2011, the direct train from Moscow to St Petersburg without intermediate stops needs three hours 40 minutes, the train from Moscow to Nizhniy Novgorod 3 hours 55 minutes. Introduction of Sapsan initially provoked cancelling of affordable daytime trains between Moscow and St Petersburg. Malpensa Express is a direct train connection between Terminal 2, Terminal 1 and Milan's city center. As of 2019, its service is based on a clock-face timetable with four services per hour in both directions: two run between the two airport terminals and Milan Cadorna station; the other two between the two airport terminals, Milan Garibaldi and Milan Centrale stations. All services call at Busto Arsizio Nord, Saronno (connections for Como, Novara and Varese) and Milan Bovisa stations. The journey time ranges between 30 and 50 minutes, depending on the type of service and number of stops.

A 'halt' stop at Holland Road, between Hove and Brighton, was in operation from 1905 to 1956. Direct train journeys to London take just over an hour, and to Brighton, a few minutes. Branching off close to Aldrington was formerly a branch line to Devil's Dyke which closed in 1938. The route of the line may be followed along a path alongside West Hove golf club; the path leads all the way to Devil's Dyke, and railway sleepers once used under the tracks may be seen to either side of the path, plus the remains of two of the stations still exist in places but are on private land.

Miraj Junction is one of the oldest Junction classified as 'A1' Category of Stations will be renovated by Central Government by 2022. Due to Broad Gauge completion between Miraj-Kurduwadi-Parli-Purna, better connectivity has been developed between Marathwada and Western Maharashtra. Karad - Chiplun Railway line Survey has been completed by the Central Railway team to connect to Jaigad Port as part of the Central Government's Sagarmala Project and expected to start work soon to get connectivity to Konkan Railway with Central Railway. Currently, passengers from Satara, Karad, Miraj, and Kolhapur are solely dependent on MSRTC as there is no direct train to visit the Konkan region for festivals and vacations.

The Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway (on the top) paralleled by the older Beijing–Shanghai Railway (on the bottom). China's two most important cities, Beijing and Shanghai, were not linked by rail until 1912, when the Jinpu railway was completed between Tianjin and Pukou. With the existing railway between Beijing and Tianjin, which was completed in 1900, the Huning railway between Nanjing and Shanghai opened in 1908, interrupted by a ferry between Pukou and Nanjing across the Yangtze River. A weekly Beijing–Shanghai direct train was first introduced in 1913. In 1933 a train ride from Beijing to Shanghai took around 44 hours, at an average speed of 33 km/h.

Dedham Specials became permanent in June 1842, giving Dedham Center reliable direct train service to Boston and making it possible for the first time to commute by train for those living in the areas served by the northern portion of the Boston and Providence Railroad. This pattern of service persisted for the next eight years, until the West Roxbury Branch from Tollgate to Dedham via West Roxbury opened in June 1850. After this point, commuter service to Dedham ran via West Roxbury rather than Readville, although trains continued to run on the old Dedham Branch on non-commuter schedules. Commuter service to Dedham via Readville resumed in 1858, but was always lighter than commuter service via West Roxbury.

East Coast, citing financial restraints during the credit crunch, announced instead just one direct train in each direction per day, with extra services running only as far as Newark North Gate station, meaning Lincoln passengers will still have to change trains there. On 22 May 2011 East Coast started direct Lincoln-London Kings Cross services, albeit in a much reduced number than they had originally planned. There is one train a day to London leaving Lincoln at 07:30 Monday-Friday and 07:33 on Saturday, there is no East Coast Service to London on a Sunday. The return service leaves London at 19:06 Monday-Friday, 18.08 on Saturday, and 19.08 on Sunday.

The form of the platform is a two-sided four-line double-sum platform. If the 2nd or 3rd station inside is mainline, the 1st and 4th station outside is mainline, and if the direct train is overtaking, the general train is evacuated by handling passengers on the mainline. From the time of its opening, a two-sided, two- way counter platform structure was constructed in advance to prepare for the new station. However, as the plan was changed so that the sub-main line, which was originally planned to be installed at Cheongna International City station, was built at this station, the new station was constructed and used at a location slightly shifted toward Cheongna International City station.

Severn Bridge Junction, the busiest in the county, south of Shrewsbury railway station. National Rail services in Shropshire are centred about Shrewsbury station (all other 'national rail' stations in Shropshire have a direct train service to Shrewsbury, which is the county town), which is managed by Transport for Wales. The station is at the junction of the Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury Line, Shrewsbury to Chester Line, the Welsh Marches Line (between Cardiff and Manchester) and the Cambrian Line (towards Welshpool). Craven Arms station is at the junction between the Welsh Marches Line and the Heart of Wales Line, although services on the Heart of Wales Line begin at Shrewsbury, rather than Craven Arms itself.

Container cranes are relatively portable, so that if the break of gauge transshipment hub changes from time to time, the cranes can be moved around as required. Fork lift trucks can also be used. It has been reported that, for example, when containers are shipped by a "direct train" from China to Europe, it is only containers, and not the railcars, which move from China's railway network to that of Kazakhstan. At the border station at Khorgos, two trains (the Chinese one and the Kazakh one) would stand side by side at parallel tracks, while the cranes would move the containers from one train to the other in as short a time as 47 minutes.

For a century Cessnock was served by the South Maitland Railway network, originally constructed for the coal industry, but which, at one time, had considerable passenger services, including a direct train to Sydney known as the Cessnock Flyer. The Sydney- Newcastle Freeway's Cessnock exit at Freemans Waterhole provides one of the main road connections from Sydney to Cessnock via "The Gap", a pass through the Watagan Mountains range just north of Mount Heaton. Until the Hunter Expressway opened in 2014, linking the New England Highway at Branxton and the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway at West Wallsend, through traffic passed through Cessnock. The local airport is placed just to the north of the city, at the entrance to the Vineyard District.

After a connection was opened from the Stralsund line to the Hauptbahnhof in 1905, the old Friedrich Franz station became a freight yard only. Also significant for the line was the reconstruction of the Warnemünde station in 1903 and the establishment of a direct train ferry service to Gedser, Denmark. From then on direct Hamburg–Rostock–Copenhagen trains operated, with sections continuing to Stockholm and Oslo. In 1934 services consisted of two pairs of high-quality express trains (D-Zug)—with an additional service in the summer—between Hamburg and Scandinavia, a semi-fast train between Rostock and Uelzen, an express train between Rostock and Lübeck and, in summer, an express train between Rostock and Leipzig.

The Sussex Scot was one of a number of named trains introduced by the British Rail InterCity sector during the 1980s. The train ran between and / via , , and major stations on the West Coast Main Line to where the train divided into portions for Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley. There had been a direct train service between Brighton and since 14 May 1979. The first departure of the Sussex Scot was 16 May 1988. The northbound train departed Brighton at 13:15 and arrived at Glasgow Central 22:48 and Edinburgh Waverley 22:52. Southbound the train departed Glasgow Central 10:50 and Edinburgh Waverley 10:44 and arrived at Brighton 20:20.

There are direct train services from Shrewsbury (and elsewhere in the county) to the cities of Manchester, Birmingham and Cardiff, as well as the port at Holyhead where regular ferries to Dublin depart. There are no electrified railways, as such, in the county despite the surrounding railway nodes of Crewe, Chester and Wolverhampton all being electrified. (The funicular Bridgnorth Cliff Railway although electrically powered is cable worked). This has meant that since the mid-1990s rail privatisation there has been a reluctance to establish a direct service to London by the cross-country railway companies (previously British Rail ran direct trains from Shrewsbury to London), notably Virgin Trains West Coast, who previously ran services to London Euston from the county in 2000.

Adler is home to the Sochi International Airport, which serves the whole Greater Sochi area. Adler railway station is also the effective southern terminus of the Russian section of the North Caucasus Railway, which has ceased to carry international traffic to Georgia since hostilities between Russia and Georgia closed the cross-border line in 1992. The summer months see direct train services bringing visitors to Adler from as far away as Berlin in the west (a journey of 3,714 km), Vorkuta in the north (4,286 km away, beyond the Arctic Circle), and Khabarovsk in the Russian Far East, with the 9,816 km of the latter journey taking eight days to complete. Passenger service to Sukhumi starts and stops from time to time.

The Santa Fe introduced the streamliner on June 6, 1954; it was Santa Fe's last new streamliner and its first direct train from Chicago to the San Francisco Bay Area. It ran via Topeka and the Belen Cutoff through Amarillo, Texas instead of Raton Pass. Like other Santa Fe trains it ran to Oakland, California (Richmond, California after 1958), with a bus connection across the bay to San Francisco, California. At first the San Francisco Chief handled through cars for cities in Texas, plus a New Orleans, Louisiana sleeper conveyed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Houston, Texas. The San Francisco Chief carried the numbers 1 (westbound) and 2 (eastbound) and was the only Chicago-San Francisco train to make the entire journey on one railroad.

Transport links provided by the A20 London to Dover road, and direct train services to Ashford International and London Victoria via Maidstone East. There are two bus stops in Charing, with the only bus services running through being the 10X and 124, which runs exclusively as a school bus. Train services are operated by Southeastern, with one train in each direction throughout the middle hours of the day, and an much enhanced service during the morning and evening peak periods. Charing railway station was opened on 1 July 1884, as part of the London, Chatham and Dover Railway (LCDR) extension to of the 1874 line to Maidstone, which itself was a branch off the LCDR's Sevenoaks branch of 1862, which joined the LCDR mainline of 1840 at Swanley.

The Boston and Providence Railroad (B&P;) had opened from downtown Boston to south of Readville on June 4, 1834, and to Canton on September 12 of that year, but initially had no branch lines. It did, however, provide stagecoach connections for Dedham Center, starting on July 28, 1834. Direct train service between Boston and Dedham Center began on February 5, 1835, with the opening of the first railroad branch line service from Readville to Dedham Center. For the first several years of the Dedham Branch's existence, service to Dedham changed often between "Dedham Specials" (through trains from Boston to Dedham and vice versa, using the Boston and Providence main line and the Dedham Branch between Readville and Dedham) and horse-drawn cars cut out of mainline trains at Readville.

Passengers from Kolhapur, Satara, and Miraj are highly demanding for the starting of DEMU between Kolhapur to Pune, Satara to Pune to have quick connectivity to Pune as it would be very much beneficial for job holders doing jobs in Pune, and staying in Satara, Karad and on route places. There is a very long demand from passengers from Karad, Satara, Miraj, Kolhapur to have a direct train to Chennai City.

The station in 1988 It was opened by the East Lancashire Railway in 1848 as part of its route from Bury and Blackburn to Colne, where an end-on junction was made with the Leeds and Bradford Extension Railway line from Skipton that had been completed several months earlier. The service from Colne through the station to Manchester Victoria via Accrington and Bury was well used from the outset by the owners of the local cotton mills, who travelled from their homes in the area to make their purchases of raw cotton at the Royal Exchange several times each week.Marshall; p.40 It was also possible to travel from the station by direct train to Blackpool, Liverpool and Skipton and even through to London Euston via Blackburn, Manchester Victoria and Stockport.

Imperial Wharf station Because of the notoriously poor transport links for the area (including Chelsea Harbour), including the absence of tube stations due to the many medieval plague pits which deterred their building in Victorian times, the nearby Imperial Wharf station was opened on 27 September 2009, providing direct rail links with Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction via Kensington (Olympia). Southern also provides direct train services from Imperial Wharf to and East Croydon. It is hoped that the area will be re-vitalized by the new station and transport links in the areas which were previously served only by bus routes 391 and C3. Chelsea Harbour Pier River bus services are provided at peak hours by London River Services from Chelsea Harbour Pier, and offer transport to Putney and Blackfriars Millennium Pier.

The 12569 / 70 Jainagar Anand Vihar Garib Rath Express is a Superfast express train of the Garib Rath series belonging to Indian Railways - East Central Railway zone that runs between Jainagar and Anand Vihar Terminal in India. When inaugurated, The service of this train was between Darbhanga to Hazrat Nizamuddin which afterwards has been extended to Jainagar from Darbhanga as there was heavy demand of passengers for a direct train from Jainagar to Hazrat Nizamuddin and on the other end to Anand Vihar Terminal due to heavy load of trains on Hazrat Nizamuddin. It operates as train number 12569 from Jainagar to Anand Vihar Terminal and as train number 12570 in the reverse direction serving the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh & Delhi. It is part of the Garib Rath Express series launched by the former railway minister of India, Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav .

The success of Hull Trains and its services from Hull to London led Renaissance Trains to start developing a proposal in 2003 to run trains from South Humberside and Lincolnshire to London To minimise revenue abstraction from franchised operators and avoid the congested East Coast Main Line, it proposed to operate via the joint line to Peterborough, across to Ely and then via the West Anglia Main Line to Stratford commencing in 2008/09.Humber Coast and City Railway Renaissance Trains Projects This service would have taken more than three hours from Lincoln to London, whereas by changing at Newark North Gate the journey would usually take no more than 2 hours. In addition, Lincoln was being served by a daily service to London St Pancras via Nottingham by East Midlands Trains, and East Coast began running a daily direct train between Lincoln and London King's Cross. Both St Pancras and King's Cross were more central than Stratford and provided links to Eurostar, but with the Stratford City development opening in 2011 and Stratford is nearer to Docklands.

With the remaining narrow gauge parts of the East-west rail corridor being gauge converted to standard gauge in 1966, the Department of Railways New South Wales, South Australian Railways, Commonwealth Railways and Western Australian Government Railways agreed that a through passenger service from Sydney Central to East Perth Terminal be inaugurated.
