Muller is Professor of Music and Director of Africa Open, Institute for Music, Research and Innovation at Stellenbosch University, where he has held a lectureship in music since 2005. His three-volume study of the South African composer Arnold van Wyk, entitled Nagmusiek (2014), drew heavily on decolonial and deconstructive theories of the archive and Paul Ricoeur’s narratological theories of mimesis to circumvent the problems of writing in Afrikaans about apartheid-era musical composition. Nagmusiek, written in Afrikaans and English, engages in a complex strategy of slipping into and out of fiction, documentary biography, conventional biography and autobiography, while performing a comprehensive listing and categorization of primary manuscript sources relating to Van Wyk music. The book has been described as a radical materialization of Walter Mignolo’s notion of ‘epistemic delinking’, and an enquiry into ‘the relationship between art, academia and fascism’.

This logic is commonly referred to as the colonial matrix of power or coloniality of power. Some have built upon decolonial theory by proposing Critical Indigenous Methodologies for research. Although formal and explicit colonization ended with the decolonization of the Americas during the eighteenth and nineteenth century and the decolonization of much of the Global South in the late twentieth century, its successors, Western imperialism and globalization perpetuate those inequalities. The colonial matrix of power produced social discrimination eventually variously codified as racial, ethnic, anthropological or national according to specific historic, social, and geographic contexts (Quijano 2007: 168). Decoloniality emerged as the colonial matrix of power was put into place during the 16th century. It is, in effect, a continuing confrontation of, and delinking from, Eurocentrism (Quijano 2000: 542). Decoloniality is synonymous with decolonial "thinking and doing", (Mignolo 2011:xxiv) and it questions or problematises the histories of power emerging from Europe. These histories underlie the logic of Western civilization (Quijano 2007: 168).

Jose Vezhaparambil, a Catholic priest based at the Fransciscan Clarist Convent in Kottat, West Chalakudy, initiated the efforts to build the church in 1962 for the benefit of the local catholic families who came under the St. Mary's Forane Church, Chalakudy parish and the foundation stone of the church was laid on 30 March 1963 by George Alapatt, the then Bishop of the Diocese of Thrissur, (present day Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Thrissur). The construction of the church was completed with financial assistance from the parent parish as well as from the local residents and was consecrated in 1966 with Joseph Mundassery as the founder vicar of the parish.

Between 1720 and 1730 Nana Abena Pokua, faced with many obstacles, confronted life with determination, living among the Nzima/Anyi and Safwi, She adopted their language and even changed her name from Abena Pokuaa to Abla Poku thus delinking any ties with Asante. Nana Abla Pokou in order to cross the River Comoe to escape the partisans of Opoku Ware who were sent to return the partisans of Nana Pokou back into the Asante Kingdom, had to sacrifice her son to the River Comoe before they were able to cross the river with her partisans.
