The North Eastern League was an association football league for teams in the North East of England. The league was founded in 1906 and was initially successful, with teams defecting from the rival Northern Football Alliance to play. Although some members (such as Darlington) transferred to join the Football League Third Division North in 1921, the North Eastern League absorbed the Northern Alliance in 1925–26 and split into two divisions. Boris Georgiyevich Bazhanov (; 9 August 1900 – 30 December 1982) was a Soviet secretary of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union who defected from the Soviet Union on 1 January 1928. Bazhanov was the personal secretary of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin from August 1923 to 1925 and held several prominent secretarial positions in the Politburo until defecting from the Soviet Union in 1928. Bazhanov was granted French citizenship and survived subsequent Soviet assassination attempts, writing and publishing memoirs and books from 1930 about Stalin and the secrets behind the Stalin regime. Bazhanov was the only member of Stalin's Secretariat to defect, and one of the first major defectors from the Eastern Bloc.

Marijan Stipetić (also Mariyan or Marjan as well as the nickname Bibi; 8 December 1930 – 8 April 2011) was a Croatian swimmer who won two bronze medals at the European Championships of 1947 and 1950 for SFR Yugoslavia. After the establishment of Ba'ath rule in Iraq, many members of the Syrian-dominated Ba'ath movement defected to its Iraqi-counterpart, few if any Iraqi-loyal Ba'athists attempted to change its allegiance to Damascus. The reason for this was that those defecting from Damascus were loyal to the old, Aflaqite National Command.

Ashidaa was the commander of the Ashidaa Mujahideen Brigade which was first publicly noticed in 2014, however the Ashidaa Mujahideen Brigade was established in 2012, with his brother Abu Ahmad al-Halabi, he was also associated with Suqour al-Sham and served as Suqour al-Sham's religious advisor. In 2013 the group joined Ahrar al-Sham and remained part of it until defecting from the Ahrar al-Sham in 2016 in response to Ahrar al-Sham's involvement in Operation Euphrates Shield which drew manpower away from Aleppo to other areas in northern Syria to fight ISIL and the Syrian Democratic Forces alongside the Turkish military, despite several recent loses in Aleppo to pro-government forces in the area at the time. The group was based in the Sukkari area of Aleppo and has been accused of flogging individuals for not attending Friday prayers. After the flogging incident, Ahrar al-Sham denied involvement in it, causing the Ashidaa Mujahideen Brigade to temporarily leave Ahrar al-Sham for Harakat Fajr ash-Sham al-Islamiya, however the group later rejoined Ahrar al- Sham.

Media facilities at Carrara Stadium. The Gold Coast Suns have played their home games at Carrara since mid-2011. The Queensland Government contributed $60 million towards the redevelopment of the stadium, increasing the capacity to around 25,000 of which 23,500 is seated. The Gold Coast City Council also contributed $20 millionGCCC to commit $20M to Carrara stadium and the AFL $10 million. The Gold Coast Suns played their first game at the reconstructed stadium on Saturday, 28 May 2011, in Round 10 of the 2011 AFL season. The Suns lost the match against by 66 points. A round 18 game against 2010 premiers attracted a then-record crowd of 23,302, selling out two months before game day. On Saturday 11 August 2012, the Suns won their first game at the venue, defeating by 30 points. Crowds would not reach in excess of 20,000 again until Round 12, 2014, when 21,354 fans watched the Suns take on the Sydney Swans in a game that marked the first time Gary Ablett, Jr. and Lance Franklin went head-to- head since defecting from their original clubs, as well as this being Franklin's first match on the Gold Coast as an AFL player.

Ne Temere was superseded in 1970 with the motu proprio Matrimonia mixta issued by Pope Paul VI. Section 15 revoked the automatic "latae sententiae" excommunication imposed by the 1917 Code of Canon Law for marrying before a non-Catholic minister or for failing to secure the Catholic upbringing of the children. The 1970 apostolic letter made the granting of a dispensation by the Ordinary conditional on a promise by the Catholic spouse to remove all danger of defecting from the faith and to do all that he or she can to have all the children baptized and brought up in the Catholic Church. The non-Catholic partner was to be made aware of these promises made by the Catholic spouse (sections 4 and 5). This would lead to a 3-on-3 Steel Cage match, at Fear & Loathing VIII at the SEC Centre, with the New Age Kliq coming away with the victory thanks to BT. In early 2016, BT & Chris Renfrew were left as the only remaining members of the New Age Kliq, with Wolfgang, Kay Lee Ray & Stevie Boy defecting from the group. Turning face around the same time and dropping 'The Oddity' persona, BT focused much of his attention on Stevie Boy, with Stevie & BT competing in many singles and tag team matches throughout the year. After Stevie attempted to crush BT's throat with a chair, Gunn was sidelined for 3 months, before returning 'The Oddity' once again to exact revenge. This led to the first ever Casket Match in ICW history, at Fear & Loathing IX at The SSE Hydro, where Stevie would powerbomb Gunn onto the top of the casket, before picking up the victory. On 29 July 2017, on night 1 of Shug's Hoose Party 4, BT Gunn competed alongside Trent Seven, Wolfgang & Pete Dunne in a Four Way match for the WWE United Kingdom Championship.

On September 15, 2017, three Democratic Senators, Paul Doyle, Joan Hartley and Gayle Slossberg, unexpectedly broke with their caucus and voted in favor of a Republican budget plan, that passed the Connecticut Senate by a 21-15 vote. At around 3 AM in the morning of September 16, 2017, the Connecticut House of Representative also passed the Republican proposal by a 77-73 with five Democratic Representatives, John Hampton, Pat Boyd, Lonnie Reed, Daniel S. Rovero and Kim Rose, defecting from their caucus. Governor Malloy vowed to veto the plan because of its cuts to higher education, which he did on September 28, 2017. On October 13, 2017, Standard & Poor's notified the state that it had changed the outlook on its general debt from "stable" to "negative". On October 18, 2017, Democratic and Republican legislative leaders announced that they had come to an agreement on a two-year budget without input from Governor Malloy. The deal included no increases to the state's income and sales taxes, while increasing a tax for hospital providers from 6% to 8%, increasing the cigarette tax and adding a $10 surcharge for motor vehicle registrations and a $0.25 fee for Uber and Lyft rides.
