You always know what your various units can do—what you have for ranged combat, for bruising or muscling your way through hordes or attacking a stronghold, what you have available for buffing and debuffing—despite the cartoonish chaos.

Shaman is a healer with great debuffing abilities. Wears Guardian armor and fights with a hammer. Maven is an offensive spell-caster with many bleeding curses. Wears Arcane armors and fight with a scepter Hellion is an offensive melee class.

Spellcasting in Maguss allows players to engage monsters (and each other) in arcane combat. Casting spells involves unlocking them, assigning them to glyphs, practicing their use, and applying them in duels. Spells fall under four categories: Sorcery (direct damage), Charms (healing and buffs), Invocations (defense), and Dark Arts (damage while also debuffing enemies). Players unlock additional spells as they gain experience in a particular spell category.

In EverQuest, the Shaman class - like the Druid and Cleric classes - is of the Priest or Healer archetype. Like the Druid, the Shaman has many secondary utility abilities at the cost of not healing as well as the Cleric. These abilities include "debuffing" (diminishing) the offense of an opponent by slowing or decreasing its attack rate, attack rating and spell resistance, as well as "buffing" (enhancing) allies by speeding up or increasing their attack rate, attack rating and spell resistance. The EverQuest Shaman would be considered neither "good" nor "evil" in overall lore.

Skills include attack moves, defensive moves, restorative elements, and buff and debuffing skills. Skills themselves fall into 5 Schools describing the type of damage or effect they do, and the amount of damage that they deal or protect against; each School has general strengths and weaknesses to other Schools. Skills are generally one-shot; once the skill is used, it is removed from the combatant's loaded skills and lost for the rest of the match. However, some skills have two or more uses and other skills can be used indefinitely.

Similar to previous entries, Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 consist of two major loops of gameplay, overworld exploration and battles. Overworld exploration consists of controlling the player character from a top-down perspective, talking to non- playable characters, and looking for items and Pokémon. Battles consist of the player sending out their Pokémon with the objective to lower the opponent's Pokémon to zero health points. The player achieves this with the use of their Pokémon's "moves" which can achieve different purposes like attacking, buffing, debuffing, or inflicting status effects.

In combat, a Djinni has several uses. Each Set Djinni has a special ability which can be invoked during combat by the character it is attached to, which can include enhanced elemental attacks, buffing/debuffing spells, healing/restoration spells, and other effects. After a successful invoke, the Djinni shifts to "Standby" mode until it is "Set" on the character again. While in standby, the Djinn do not contribute to statistics or change character classes, but can be used for summon spells, which are attacks where the player summons a powerful elemental monster to inflict damage on every enemy and increases the respective characters affinity for that element for a duration.
