Exclusive releases in the UK included Little Richard, and Coldplay, and in the US, Chvrches, Soundgarden, Joan Jett, The Yardbirds, Tears For Fears, Death Grips and Cage the Elephant.

Government Plates is the third studio album by experimental hip hop group Death Grips. It was released for free download on November 13, 2013, following the release of the single "Birds" in August 2013. It was also uploaded by the band to multiple file sharing sites. Accompanying the album are eleven music videos, which were uploaded to the band's YouTube page.

"Flies" received generally positive reviews from critics upon its release. Writing for Consequence of Sound, Randall Colburn described the song as "[evoking] a swarm of winged creatures, its spastic beat underscoring whirring synths, colorful drones, and MC Ride’s trademark bark." Jake Boyer of Highsnobiety commended "Flies" for "offering [Death Grips'] usual potent blend of visceral hardcore electro with a heart of utter darkness".

Other pop bands from the 1980s, who were ostensibly fronted by two performers, such as Wham!, Eurythmics, and Tears for Fears, were not actually two-piece ensembles, because other instrumental musicians were used "behind the scenes" to fill out the sound. Modern bands that use this format include Ninja Sex Party and Death Grips. Two-piece bands in rock music are quite rare.

A review by MusicOMH stated that it had less of Hill's percussion and claimed that Morin lacked direction in producing the album. Death Grips were scheduled as a supporting act to tour with Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden in July but the group announced an abrupt disbandment, thus cancelling their appearances. An image of the following message, posted on their Facebook page, was written on a napkin: In January 2015, without any prior notification, Death Grips released a free instrumental album entitled Fashion Week. The song titles, each beginning with the word "Runway" followed by a letter of the alphabet, spelled out the phrase "JENNY DEATH WHEN" in reference to the then-unreleased second disc of The Powers That B. The album was released in its complete form in March and reached the Billboard 200 chart at No. 72.

The 2012 Moogfest featured Primus's 3D Tour, Orbital, Miike Snow, Santigold, Richie Hawtin, Squarepusher, Explosions in the Sky, The Magnetic Fields, Four Tet, Divine Fits, GZA performing Liquid Swords, Carl Craig, Pantha Du Prince, Shpongle, Thomas Dolby, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Actress, Cold Cave, El-P, Prefuse 73, Bear in Heaven, Killer Mike, Blondes, Julia Holter, Disclosure, Exit Music, Trust, Death Grips, and Wick-it the Instigator.

Willits has participated in numerous projects, including collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tycho, Zach Hill (drummer from the band Death Grips and Hella), Kid606, Brad Laner (Medicine), Nate Boyce, Latrice Barnett (singer/songwriter and bassist for Handsome Boy Modeling School), Taylor Deupree (12k record label founder), Scott Pagano (visual artist and motion graphics designer), Matmos. Willits is also the founder and director of the record label and community building organization Overlap.

White plays guitar in the electronic rock band Bad Things, which also features former Augustana bassist Jared Palomar. The band played in one of the four Saturday headlining slots at the 2013 Lollapalooza festival, as a last-minute replacement for Death Grips. Their self-titled debut album was released in January 2014. In October 2013, White appeared in the music video for "City of Angels" by Thirty Seconds to Mars.

Jenny Death was leaked onto various filesharing websites and shared to 4chan and Reddit. The band later streamed the entire album on their YouTube page. The same day, the group announced on their Facebook that they 'might make some more', hinting that they intend to continue making music. On March 24, 2015 Death Grips announced via Facebook that they were going on tour in support of the album.

On November 13, 2013, Death Grips posted Government Plates on several websites for free download without any forewarning. Subsequently, they released music videos for all eleven tracks on YouTube and streamed the full album on SoundCloud. The album was released exactly 13 months, 13 days, and 13 hours after their previous album, No Love Deep Web. The album was released to iTunes and Spotify on January 14, 2014.

Fashion Week is an instrumental "soundtrack" album by experimental hip hop group Death Grips. It was self-released, available for free, on January 4, 2015 via Third Worlds, without any prior announcement. It was the band's first release after their supposed disbandment in 2014, and also the first release to not feature vocals from frontman MC Ride, which was a major factor in its mixed-to-positive critical reception.

The album was first hinted at with the release of a music video for a track titled "Blackjack" on February 7, 2012. The album was later announced along with the release of another track titled "Get Got" on February 27. It was then announced that Death Grips had signed to Epic Records and were scheduled to release two albums in 2012. On February 28, the group leaked both songs online for free.

In January 2014, Cold Cave remixed the song "Running" by Nine Inch Nails as part of a remix EP Seed Eight, to coincide with the launch of Beats Music. In May 2014, Cold Cave opened for Nine Inch Nails on their full European and UK tour. They were also invited to open for Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden on their North American tour, after Death Grips, the band originally chosen for opening, decided to split.

's William Hutson, "The modus operandi of Deathbomb is punk as a way of being in the world, and not a type of music." Their website explains that "our criteria for putting out bands is inexplicable" and not constrained by genres. The label has released a wide range of styles including breakcore, noise rock, witch house, new age, hip hop, ambient, punk and techno. Notable releases include the first material from Clipping, JPEGMAFIA, Death Grips and Julia Holter.

They have also since done extensive touring in 2014 traveling with Dillinger Escape Plan, and then again with Pinback. During many of their 2014 shows they performed "Dyer Ln" and "Don't Say I Know", both of which would not see a release until 2017's Trash Generator. Nick Reinhart was featured on Death Grips' instrumental album Fashion Week, as well as disc 2 of their double album The Powers That B and their fifth album Bottomless Pit.

The Money Store is the debut studio album by American experimental hip hop trio Death Grips. It is the follow-up to their debut mixtape Exmilitary. The album was officially released on April 24, 2012, but had been leaked to YouTube on April 14 and made available on vinyl on April 21 to celebrate Record Store Day. The Money Store was announced alongside the group's second album, No Love Deep Web, which was released later in the year.

Their style has been categorized as experimental hip hop, rap rock, electropunk, industrial hip hop, and punk-rap. The group is known for Ride's aggressive rapping style and bleak and cryptic lyrics, alongside their noisy and often chaotic production. They have also received attention for their wild physical performances and stage presence.

In Film Quarterly, Vol. 71, Number 2, in a Black Film dossier titled "Death Grips," by Michael Boyce Gillespie, Bodomo explains her 2016 film segment Everybody Dies!. In 2018, Bodomo was a writer and director on Random Acts of Flyness, an HBO series created by Terence Nance. Bodomo is currently developing the feature version of Afronauts, which is supported by the Sundance Institute, Tribeca Film Institute, IFP's Emerging Storytellers program, and the Alfred P Sloan Foundation.

Nervous Cop reformed with a new lineup in 2017 to record an 18-minute self-titled piece which was released for download through CASH Music and as part of Deerhoof's limited edition vinyl box set for Joyful Noise Recordings' "artist in residence" program. Saunier, Dieterich and Hill returned without Newsom and were instead joined by long-time Deerhoof vocalist and bassist Satomi Matsuzaki, guitarist Ed Rodrigeuz who joined Deerhoof in 2008, and Andy Morin of Hill's newer group Death Grips.

At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from critics, the album earned a score of 75, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Much of the praise was directed at Corey's production. In a positive review for the album, Chris Dart of Exclaim! called him "Injury Reserve's real driving force", and Kyle Kohner of The 405 wrote that Corey "mix[es] things up with some of the most wonky-sounding production you will hear outside of Death Grips".

The Powers That B is the fourth studio album, and first double album, by experimental hip hop group Death Grips. The album's first disc, Niggas on the Moon, was released as a free digital download on June 8, 2014. The first disc's instrumentation was performed entirely on a Roland V-Drum kit by drummer Zach Hill and features chopped vocal samples of Icelandic singer- songwriter Björk on every track. The second half, Jenny Death, leaked online on March 19, 2015.

Cities Aviv is known for his eclectic production style. His songs sample various artists of different genres. His influences include Three 6 Mafia, 8Ball & MJG, Black Moon, Big Pun, Non Phixion, and soul music, as well as rock music acts Joy Division and Deftones. Critics also noted post-punk influences on his works, accompanied by lyrical references to Joy Division and Psychic TV. Cities Aviv's rapping style and flow was compared to those of RZA and MC Ride of Death Grips.

Team Sleep performed a number of live shows on the West Coast of the United States in late 2001 and early 2002, with Moreno, Wilkinson, DJ Crook, Verrett (of Tinfed), Zach Hill (Hella, later of Death Grips), Dan Elkan (Pocket for Corduroy/Them Hills), Sonny Mayugba (of Phallucy, the prior band of Deftones drummer Abe Cunningham) and Joel Tidwell handling instrumentation. Their early live set included a loose cover of the Smashing Pumpkins' "The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left, Looks Right)", among others.

Capitol Music Group announced its relaunch of the label on 25 February 2013, with former Warner Bros. Records and Dangerbird Records executive Piero Giramonti at the helm. Giramonti is tasked with running the label as an independent label, with the support of Capitol Music Group and Caroline Distribution for distribution, radio promotion and licensing. As of 2013, the Harvest roster consists of TV on the Radio, Arthur Beatrice, Babes, Banks, Death Grips, the Olms, Together Pangea, White Lies and Young & Sick.

She starred in John Landis's 2010 thriller Some Guy Who Kills People, as well as Aïda Ruilova's surrealist short film Meet the Eye (2009). Later that year, Black appeared on Cass McCombs' song "Dreams-Come-True-Girl" from the album Catacombs. The experimental hip-hop group Death Grips released a video on YouTube called "Bottomless Pit" in October 2015. The video shows footage of Black reciting lines from a film script written by the group's drummer/co-producer Zach Hill.

On October 21, 2015, the group uploaded a video to their YouTube page titled Bottomless Pit. It features footage from 2013 of the late American actress Karen Black reciting lines from a film script Zach Hill wrote months before her death. They also posted on their website and Facebook that this would be the title for their upcoming fifth official studio album. On February 6, 2016, Death Grips released a song called "Hot Head" from their upcoming album onto their SoundCloud and YouTube accounts.

Ride's lyrics are described as "chants and rants, rhythmic elements that are barely intelligible—though full of bleak, deranged, or drugged-out thoughts". Ride's lyrics engage with various topics, including sex, drugs, addiction, economic collapse, insanity, suicide, occultism, paranoia, and techno-futurism. John Calvert of The Quietus wrote, "Death Grips embroils MC Ride's consciousness in a schematised Braque-esque maze, a gloaming constellation, a synaptic thing." Chase Woodruff of Slant Magazine argued that Ride's lyrics "hint at a contemporary, vaguely political edge to all his rage and alienation".

DJ Swamp has become the go to man for studio scratching in Los Angeles and has appeared on songs by Beck, The Crystal Method, Vanilla Ice, Katy Perry, Supreme Beings of Leisure, Ben Folds, Belinda, Oblivion Dust, Kid Rock, Twiztid, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, Hanson, The Bloodhound Gang, Morcheeba, The Dandy Warhols, R. L. Burnside, Faithless, OPM, Devo, Save Ferris, Say Anything, Dust Brothers, Kool Keith, Sticky Fingaz, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Death Grips and Better Than Ezra. In 2017, the band Ministry announced him as a new member of the band.

Steroids (Crouching Tiger Hidden Gabber Megamix) is the third EP by the American experimental hip hop group Death Grips, self-released by the band on May 22, 2017. The piece, a mix of what appears to be 7 to 8 songs on a single track, has been described as a "barrage of noise". The EP was later released for the first time physically on vinyl for Record Store Day 2019, featuring the previously YouTube exclusive tracks More Than the Fairy and Electronic Drum Solo Dub Mix (Single Take) as B-sides.

She also served as the creative director for Perry's Teenage Dream. Cob-Baehler continued to work closely with Perry until Cob-Baehler left EMI in 2011 to become executive vice president of marketing at Epic Records. In addition to heading marketing at Epic, Cob- Baehler served in an a&r; capacity, and notably signed the controversial hip hop band Death Grips, who were named Spin magazine's "Artist of the Year" in 2012. In February 2013, Cob-Baehler joined The Firm/The Online Network as the head of marketing and associate producer.

David Jeffries of AllMusic described the track "Find Your Wings" as "smooth and jazzy", and the title track "Cherry Bomb" as "drill 'n' bass [...] as muted trumpets, xylophones, cruncing guitars, and Atari Teenage Riot-style compression all fly by". The title track has also been compared to the works of experimental hip hop group Death Grips. A portion of the song "The Brown Stains of Darkeese Latifah Part 6-12 (Remix)" has a cadence similar to N.E.R.D member Pharrell Williams. The lyrics of "Fucking Young / Perfect" details Tyler's attraction to a girl six years younger than him.

King of the Beach is the third studio album by the American band Wavves. It was set to be released in the USA by Fat Possum Records and in the UK by Bella Union Records on August 3, 2010, but digital copies became available July 1 as a result of early leaks. Pitchfork placed it at number 50 on its list "The Top 50 Albums of 2010". Nathan Williams on Twitter has confirmed that most of the material from the album was originally demos that he had written with drummer Zach Hill of Hella and Death Grips.

In 2014, Lopatin supported Nine Inch Nails on their tour with Soundgarden, as a replacement for Death Grips. On October 4, 2014, he presented a world premiere live soundtrack for Koji Morimoto's 1995 anime film Magnetic Rose. The event took place at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics, and featured Anohni on a rendition of the OPN song "Returnal" as well as audio-visual works from Nate Boyce which have been hosted by the Barbican Centre in London, the Museum of Modern Art and MoMA PS1. In the same year, OPN released Commissions I for Record Store Day, featuring several commissioned pieces.

Between the releases of the two halves of this double album, the instrumental album Fashion Week was released in January 2015. The second half, Jenny Death was highly anticipated and the complete double album was released in March 2015 to positive reviews, peaking at number 72 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Powers That B was followed by an instrumental EP titled Interview 2016, released in March 2016. In May 2016, Death Grips released their fifth studio album, Bottomless Pit, which was met with positive reviews and peaked at number 193 on the Billboard 200 chart.

During this period, Hill was also working on the group's album. Death Grips were scheduled to perform at Lollapalooza in August, but their performance was cancelled after the band failed to show up for an after-party show the previous night at the Bottom Lounge, instead putting on a playlist of pre-recorded tracks. Draped over the back of the stage was a huge printout of a fan's suicide note, written to the band in the form of an email. Fans at the show destroyed and stole pieces of the band's equipment after being informed of the cancellation.

For the album, Bowie took inspiration from electronic groups such as Boards of Canada and Death Grips as well as hip hop artists such as Kendrick Lamar. The album contains re-recorded versions of two songs, "Sue (Or in a Season of Crime)" and "'Tis a Pity She Was a Whore", both of which were originally released in 2014. It was preceded by the singles "Blackstar" and "Lazarus", both of which were supported by music videos. The album cover, designed by Jonathan Barnbrook, features a large black star with five star segments at the bottom that spell out the word "Bowie".

Music by Cherry Glazerr has been featured on a number of artistic platforms. After recruiting vocalist Clementine Creevy to model for the Yves Saint Laurent Campaign in 2013, creative director Hedi Slimane commissioned Cherry Glazerr to write a song for his Fall 2014 Saint Laurent's women's show ("Had Ten Dollaz"). In 2014, Cherry Glazerr recorded a new version of the Al Dubin and Joe Burke (composer) song “Tiptoe Through The Tulips”, which was featured in the 2015 supernatural horror film Insidious: Chapter 3. Creevy also supplied guest vocals for the Death Grips song "Giving Bad People Good Ideas", on the album Bottomless Pit.

On November 15, 2013, drummer Matt Cameron announced he would not be touring with Soundgarden in 2014, due to prior commitments promoting Pearl Jam's album Lightning Bolt. On March 16, 2014, Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails announced they were going to tour North America together, along with opening act Death Grips. Former Pearl Jam drummer Matt Chamberlain replaced Cameron for live shows in South America and Europe on March 27, 2014. Soundgarden announced on October 28, 2014, they would release the 3-CD compilation box set, Echo of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across the Path, on November 24.

Death Grips uploaded a music video for the track "Streaky" on their YouTube channel on May 5, 2018, as the album's first single, followed by the track "Black Paint" on May 15, and the music video for the third album single, "Flies", on May 22. The band posted a short video to Instagram on May 23, featuring DJ Swamp performing on a turntable in a recording studio, with the caption stating that "the majority of Year of the Snitch features [him]". The fourth single, "Hahaha", was uploaded by the band to their YouTube page on June 7. That same day, the album's release date was announced as June 22.

According to Visconti, he and Bowie deliberately attempted "to avoid rock'n’roll" while making the album, and they had been listening to rapper Kendrick Lamar's 2015 album To Pimp a Butterfly during the recording sessions and cited it as an influence. Discussing the album, Visconti said "We wound up with nothing like that, but we loved the fact that Kendrick was so open-minded and he didn't do a straight-up hip-hop record. He threw everything on there, and that's exactly what we wanted to do." Electronic duo Boards of Canada and experimental hip hop trio Death Grips have also been cited as influences.

The experimental hip hop group Death Grips performing in New York. They provided two remixes for the Biophilia Remix Series which were both later included on Bastards (2012). Leading up to the album release, Björk issued a series of remixes of "Crystalline" and "Cosmogony", titled The Crystalline Series. The remixes were released on digital download, LP and in a limited CD edition. The first part, which contained the two single versions of the songs by Serban Ghenea, was released on 19 July 2011, coinciding with the digital release of "Cosmogony". The second part included two remixes of "Crystalline" and "Thunderbolt" by Syrian musician Omar Souleyman, alongside an original song by the musician, called "Mawal", was released on 26 July.

Billed as the Biophilia Remix Series, each part was announced to come out starting on 16 April 2012, each every two weeks after the other, on digital download, CD and LP. The deluxe edition of each release consisted in a limited edition package with micro textured blue minerals papers and embossed foil lettering, designed by M/M Paris. The first entry featured remixes of "Crystalline" and "Solstice" by Current Value. The second part, released on 30 April 2012, included remixes of "Thunderbolt" and "Sacrifice" by experimental hip hop band Death Grips. On the third part of the series, Hudson Mohawke remixed "Virus" and El Guincho reworked "Cosmogony"; this entry came out on 14 May 2012.

In anticipation of the album, the band released an instrumental soundtrack entitled Fashion Week in January 2015. The track list is as follows: "Runway J," "Runway E" and so on; acrostically spelling out the phrase "JENNY DEATH WHEN", in reference to the second disc of The Powers That B. On February 13, 2015, Death Grips uploaded a new video to their YouTube channel. It showed the group, rehearsing the following songs: "I Break Mirrors with My Face in the United States," "Inanimate Sensation," "Turned Off," "Why a Bitch Gotta Lie" and "Lock Your Doors." On March 10, 2015, thirty-second snippets of each song from Jenny Death leaked onto the internet, via Dutch music retailer Bol.com.

Hip hop acts that started in previous decades, but continue to have commercial success in this decade include Kanye West, Eminem, Jay Z, Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, Gucci Mane, Rick Ross, and Jeezy. Hip hop acts that had never charted on the Billboard Hot 100 but still retain a strong fan base within the hip hop community at large have been Earl Sweatshirt, Princess Nokia, Joey Bada$$, Denzel Curry, Maxo Kream, Vince Staples, Divine Council, Isaiah Rashad, Action Bronson, and SpaceGhostPurrp. Hip hop acts that had gained fame via the social medium Vine were T-Wayne, iLoveMakonnen, Silento, Bobby Shmurda, Desiigner and iLoveMemphis. Experimental hip hop artists such as Death Grips, JPEGMafia, and Clipping.

On April 18, 2012, the Death Grips Youtube channel uploaded the music video for the single "I've Seen Footage" from The Money Store, which at the 2:16 and 2:26 mark for a single frame an early version of The Powers That B cover is visible while then appearing as the completed version at 3:14. Additionally in the same video, the opening shot for the screen in the "Inanimate Sensation" video can also be seen at the 2:26 mark for a single frame. On January 19, 2014, Zach Hill posted to his Facebook page, stating that the group had begun recording a new album. On June 8, 2014, the first disc: Niggas on the Moon, was released as a free download via thirdworlds.

On March 11, 2015, the Jenny Death song lengths also leaked. On March 12, Death Grips released a video to their YouTube channel for the song "On GP", filmed in an echo chamber located in Studio 1, Sunset Sound Recorders in Los Angeles, California which pictures them in an almost empty room (except for a speaker) to be almost completely still except for some subtle movement from time to time. The official music video for "On GP" was released a day later, featuring various magic tricks performed by Sacramento magician Russell Brown. On March 17, the group released the song "The Powers That B" to their YouTube channel, as well as the release date and pre-order links for the album via their Facebook page.

The character Luna from the 2012 video game and visual novel Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward wears a necklace with a caged bluebird, and the story is discussed in one ending. The titular bluebird of the song "Birds", from the 2013 album Government Plates by the experimental hip hop group Death Grips, is thought to be referencing Charles Bukowski's poem "Bluebird", wherein the bluebird represents the vulnerability that Bukowski felt as a result of child abuse from his father. The bluebird is also mentioned by David Bowie in the song "Lazarus" from his 2016 album Blackstar. In the 2018 video game Red Dead Redemption 2, during the scene where John Marston builds the ranch at Beecher's Hope, a bluebird is seen perched next to the gang while they are hammering and nailing the wood.

The collection is a parody of the over-importance and over-focus of the drop and lack of care of the overall quality of a song common in the modern electronic dance music scene. Wang has released more than 45 tracks in the weird SoundCloud, some of them receiving around a million plays. Subgenres of Weird SoundCloud include Macklecore, mash-ups and remixes that include the works of American hip-hop recording artist Macklemore, and Biggiewave, which include samples of songs from the album Ready to Die (1994) by The Notorious B.I.G. Common audio and meme sources used include Skrillex, the Martin Garrix track "Animals", Thomas The Tank Engine, Shrek, Macklemore, "Gangnam Style", the Bruno Mars track "Uptown Funk", the Disturbed track "Down with the Sickness", Space Jam, the Childish Gambino track "Bonfire", the Death Grips track "Takyon" and air horn sound effects.

Described as West's most sonically experimental work, the album is driven by abrasive electronics while drawing from an array of industrial, punk and hip hop subgenres. According to Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot, Yeezus is a "hostile, abrasive and intentionally off-putting" album that combines "the worlds of" 1980s Chicago acid-house, 2013 Chicago drill music, 1990s industrial music, and the "avant-rap" of Saul Williams, Death Grips, and Odd Future. The Independent, Mass Appeal, and The Village Voice described it as an experimental release, while Meagan Garvey of The Outline described it as West's "industrial album". Rolling Stone described it as "an extravagantly abrasive album full of grinding electro, pummeling minimalist hip-hop, drone-y wooz and industrial gear-grind", while Vulture called it a "punk rap opus", and Rolling Stone called it an "industrial-rap opus".

Their live performances are notable for antics such as the destruction of instruments, their complete absence at one of their scheduled shows, Hill drumming to the point of severe injury or performing in handcuffs, Ride's intense and chaotic stage persona, and Morin's use of live sampling alongside his improvised synthesizer flourishes and violent dancing. They are also notable for engaging in extended periods of live musical improvisation interwoven into their set as bridges between songs, typically performed on the fly by Morin and Hill. Ride has been known to adopt many different vocal styles on record and during live performances, such as shouting, screaming, spoken word-style talking, and even whispering. Morin's unorthodox style of production and sampling and Hill's noisy, fast, and unconventional drumming styles and patterns are also distinct features of Death Grips' sound.

He has served as the chairman and CEO of Epic Records and The Island Def Jam Music Group, the president and CEO of Arista Records. Reid was the founder and CEO of Hitco Music Publishing and the co-founder of LaFace Records with producing partner Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds. He has won three Grammy Awards, picking up awards as a songwriter for songs such as Boyz II Men's "End Of The Road." Over the course of his career he has written and produced for many artists including Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, Outkast, Toni Braxton, TLC, Mariah Carey, Avril Lavigne, Paula Abdul, Pink, Justin Bieber, Meghan Trainor, Rihanna, Kanye West, Usher, Ne-Yo, 21 Savage, Young Jeezy, Ciara, Zara Larsson, Jidenna, Jennifer Lopez, Future, Travis Scott, Fifth Harmony, DJ Khaled, Death Grips, Rick Ross, Halsey, Whitney Houston, and The Jacksons.

TheOGM was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, raised in Linden, New Jersey; Eaddy is from Newark, New Jersey. Both were part of the same performing arts collective, the NJstreetKLAN (also known as the JerseyKLAN) and formed the group in Newark in 2012. They were influenced by hip-hop and gangsta rappers (DMX and Bone Thugs- n-Harmony) in their teens, but later began attending underground punk shows in Brooklyn featuring Japanther, Cerebral Ballzy and The Death Set as well as Ninjasonik, Theophilus London and the A.L.I.E.N. art shows. The band also cites influences that include horror movies and director/former White Zombie frontman Rob Zombie. Critics have noted the band’s cinematic influences as well as those of its punk and hip-hop roots, though the band has been compared to Death Grips, Black Flag, Big Black and Bad Brains.

Record Store Day 2019 took place on April 13. Pearl Jam served as ambassadors and their album MTV Unplugged saw a limited release for the celebration. Special releases included the first reissue of Gorillaz' fourth album The Fall for the first time since 2011 on translucent forest green vinyl; a picture disc of Bohemian Rhapsody: The Original Soundtrack; KT Tunstall's Extra Wax; a picture disc of songs from films by Peter Gabriel; "Chasing You", the first single from J. J. Cale's posthumous album Stay Around; Live! Woodstock '94, the 25th anniversary of the Green Day performance; Live at the Borderline 1991 by R.E.M.; and Imagine (Raw Studio Mixes) by John Lennon; among other titles. Record Store Day 2019 exclusives included reissues of Death Grips’ Steroids (Crouching Tiger Hidden Gabber Megamix); Robyn's Body Talk; Aretha Franklin's The Atlantic Singles 1967; and other titles.

Dan Weiss of Spin found that the most interesting aspect of Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz was RCA Records' willingness to let Cyrus release the material outside her recording contract: "Before the era of the surprise free album, record companies would refuse to release an uncommercial record, or let it choke to death without promotion". According to Weiss, the label supported Cyrus' launch strategy when it determined that none of the material "was worth fighting Big Miley LLC over". Chris DeVille of Stereogum said, "After a second straight year dotted by surprise drops by everyone from Drake to Death Grips to Miley Cyrus and the Flaming Lips" (after Beyoncé's self- titled fifth studio album in 2013), the practice ran the risk of becoming "standard". DeVille questioned the accuracy of the word "surprise", when the projects' existence had been extensively discussed by the media before their release.

Produced by The Who's manager Kit Lambert, and executive-produced by Pete Townshend on Track Records, the label begun by Lambert and Chris Stamp, it spun off an equally surprising hit single, "Fire", and contained a version of "I Put a Spell on You" written by Screaming Jay Hawkins, a similarly bizarre showman. "Fire" sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. The song has since seen its opening line "I am the God of Hellfire" sampled in numerous other places, most notably in The Prodigy's 1992 rave anthem "Fire", and more recently in Death Grips' "Lord of the Game", from 2011. Theaker was replaced because of his aviophobia in 1968 by Chris Farlowe & The Thunderbirds drummer Carl Palmer, later of Atomic Rooster, Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Asia for the band's second American tour in 1969, on which keyboardist Vincent Crane also left—although he soon returned.

The third song, "Beta Male Strategies", is a pop rap-oriented noise rap song with "manipulated vocal sample, hand claps, rave-ready drums, and a smidge of guitar" which confronts and pokes fun at the alt-right and internet trolls. The instrumental "JPEGMafia Type Beat" is an Atari Teenage Riot homage, which critics interpreted as ridiculing "type beats" in contemporary hip hop production and his comparisons to Blackie and, more frequently, Death Grips. "Grimy Waifu" is a mellow guitar-backed singer-songwriter downtempo ode to a gun disguised as a love song, inspired by his time spent in the military; it is followed by "PTSD", an anxious song backed by murky synths and breakbeats "channeling his military past". "Rap Grow Old & Die x No Child Left Behind" references Bobby Brown and Michael Jackson to mock whitewashing in the music industry, where he also sings about "the unfair cycle of society".

The song melodically and lyrically resembles Lightnin' Hopkins's "Automobile Blues","Wicked Messenger: Bob Dylan and the 1960s" By Mike Marqusee, p. 191 with Dylan's opening line of "Well, I see you got your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat," echoing Hopkins's "I saw you riding 'round in your brand new automobile," and the repeated line of "...brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat," melodically descending in the same manner of the Hopkins refrain "...in your brand new fast car". The Dylan reference to "the garage door" in the final verse of "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat" may also be an allusion to the automobile of Hopkins's song. In 2013 experimental hip-hop group Death Grips released a song titled "You Might Think He Loves You for Your Money But I Know What He Really Loves You for It’s Your Brand New Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat" named after the last lines in the song.

Sara Taylor of the EBM group Youth Code has said that the song "Worlock" was "one of the most influential songs" she had ever heard. Other artists impacted by Skinny Puppy's music include Marilyn Manson, Chester Bennington, Moby, Jonathan Davis, Daron Malakian, 3Teeth, Foals vocalist Yannis Philippakis, Al Jourgensen, Chris Vrenna, John Grant, Mortiis,Blush Response, Celldweller, Finite Automata, Shooter Jennings, Death Grips vocalist MC Ride, X Marks the Pedwalk, Wumpscut, Haujobb, Orgy, Filter, Front Line Assembly, Orphx, Crystal Castles, AFI side project Blaqk Audio, and Mayhem vocalist Attila Csihar. The band inspired a tribute album, Hymns of the Worlock: A Tribute to Skinny Puppy published by Cleopatra Records, which features groups such as Crocodile Shop and The Electric Hellfire Club. Skinny Puppy's remix album Remix dystemper includes contributions from a wide array of musicians such as electronic music DJ Josh Wink, Guru, KMFDM, Deftones, and former Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna.

Rock and roll music has inspired controversy for the entirety of its existence. As the music grew in popularity, some artists used controversy to make a statement, gain attention or make a profit (or a combination of these). For musical genres such as shock rock, punk rock, horrorcore and its parent genres hardcore hip hop and gangsta rap; grindcore, black metal and death metal, as well as various bands within the avant-garde rock genre, offending modern sensibilities was an integral part of their music. Musicians such as Alice Cooper, Slayer, Kiss, N.W.A, Iggy Pop, Misfits, W.A.S.P., GWAR, GG Allin, The Plasmatics, Cannibal Corpse, Tyler, The Creator, Throbbing Gristle, Marilyn Manson, Die Antwoord, Costes, The Mentors, Anal Cunt, The Sex Pistols, Death Grips, The Meatmen, Eminem, Brotha Lynch Hung and the Dead Kennedys used anti-Christian, anti-establishment, satirical lyrics that were generally considered to be evil by those who did not understand them.

Gradually securing its place as a permanent fixture on the European festival scene, the festival attracts an ever-growing amount of international visitors. Spanning a total line-up of more that 350 international artists and numerous local acts over its seven editions, the festival is noted for its genre-defying philosophy by embracing music from a diversified background, as well as its concentration on showcasing some of the latest talent to emerge from the international music scene. Some of the acts that have appeared in previous line-ups include: Wild Beasts, 65daysofstatic, Black Lips, Mount Kimbie, Fuck Buttons, Nightmares on Wax, Vitalic, Shackleton, Death Grips, Peaches, These New Puritans, Ebo Taylor, King Krule, Fucked Up, King Khan and the Shrines, The Haxan Cloak, Dope Body, Egyptian Hip Hop, Girls Names, King Tuff, Triggerfinger, The Notwist, Andrew Weatherall, Shigeto, Forest Swords. A strong focal point encompasses sustainability and volunteering alike, with the festival introducing at 2012,The Lab, an annual workshop for young people involving theory and practice on the makings of a festival.

Joan of Arc, Cassette Tape Boxed Set (Joyful Noise Recordings, 2010) In September 2010, Joyful Noise Recordings released a JOA 10-album complete cassette box set. Contained in this collection are the 10 full-length studio albums from JOA, beginning with 1997's "Portable Model Of" Jade Tree and ending with 2009's "Flowers" Polyvinyl. Though JOA continued to release full-length LPs with Polyvinyl, Tim Kinsella began releasing his more bizarre, amorphous, experimental work through Joyful Noise Recordings, beginning in 2011 with "Oh Brother" described as a "combination of four distinct albums embarked upon but never completed by Joan of Arc," with collaborative personnel ranging from Zach Hill (Death Grips, Hella, Face Tat), Rob Lowe (Pinback, Goblin Cock) and others in a sprawling, ambient instrumental, double-LP. Other solo & experimental work has work appearing on Joyful Noise Recordings, quickly followed including Lightbox, Joan of Arc Presents Joan of Arc, the self-titled album (known colloquially as the 'Elephant Man Album'), Pinecone, Tim Kinsella Sings the Songs of Marvin Tate by Leroy Bach Featuring Angel Olsen and other projects.

Harrison's experience when writing "Blue Jay Way" is referenced in the Jonathan Kellerman novel Obsession (2007), as the lead character, Alex Delaware, waits among the "bird streets" overlooking Sunset Strip. The US hip hop group Death Grips included a reversed sample of "Blue Jay Way" as well as a quote from the song's lyrics in their 2012 track "Double Helix", released on The Money Store, an album that Clash magazine described as sounding like "the burning skies of LA's decaying empire". In a 2011 interview, music producer and radio host Kim Fowley identified "Blue Jay Way" as the first song in which a member of the Beatles wrote about America and cited it as evidence of Harrison's standing as "the most American of all the Beatles" during the 1960s. Fowley highlighted this connection – including Harrison's friendships with David Crosby of the Byrds and other California- based musicians, such as Leon Russell – as the foundation for rock music's first all-star charity concert, the Concert for Bangladesh, which Harrison staged in New York in August 1971.

Sound on Sound Fest (often abbreviated as SOS Fest) was a three-day music, comedy, action sports and camping festival held 35 miles east of downtown Austin, Texas, at the Sherwood Forest Faire, home to an annual renaissance fair, and medieval-style village, set on 23 acres and located in the heart of the Lost Pines Forest region of Central Texas. SOS Fest celebrated its inaugural year November 4–6, 2016 with notable performers such as Beach House, Phantogram, Young Thug, Courtney Barnett, Death Grips, Tim Heidecker and more. Founded by Austin-based promotions company Margin Walker Presents and produced by Funhouse Services and Sound on Sound Event Services, SOS Fest was home to three music stages showcasing emerging and established talent from the worlds of indie, punk, hip hop, metal, and dance music, as well as comedy. Created by Graham Williams and much of the same team behind the long-running Fun Fun Fun Fest, SOS Fest aimed to bring the same Austin-centric culture to the forest by including many local businesses, food trucks, restaurants and nonprofits as official vendors of the fest.
