The 88-year-old firm, hit hard by intense competition in the retail sector, said on Wednesday creditors to BHS Limited, which covers 125 of its 164 stores, had voted to approve its proposal for a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) - a form of compromise agreement to avoid administration or liquidation.

The CVA, outlined by BHS's owners earlier this month, proposed that 77 of its most viable stores would be retained at current rents, though paid monthly rather than quarterly, for three years, while a further 47 stores would have a reduced equivalent monthly rent of either 75 percent or 50 percent.

Boparan Restaurant Group (BRG), owned by Ranjit Singh Boparan, said 27 of its 87 restaurants would be shut under a proposed deal with landlords, Sky News reported here BRG, which also owns the Harry Ramsden restaurant chain, had been forced to seek a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) to close the stores, the report said.

"The chairman has the right to invite any organization he pleases, but to pretend that CVA is anything other than a partisan organization that invests time and money into discrediting Democratic members of Congress, and specifically the ranking member of this committee, is disingenuous," Griffin Anderson, press secretary for the committee's Democrats, told Military Times.
