Mills was both a boxer and a runner in his youth, but he gave up boxing to focus on running. He attended the University of Kansas on an athletic scholarship and was a three-time NCAA All-America cross-country runner. In 1960 he won the individual title at the Big Eight cross-country championship. While he competed at Kansas, the track team won the 1959 and 1960 outdoor national championships.
Claes Nyberg (born 3 March 1971) is a Swedish former long-distance runner who competes mostly in cross country running. His highest international achievement was a silver medal at the 1997 European Cross Country Championships. He made seven appearances at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships between 1989 and 2002, with his best placing of 33rd coming both 2000 and 2001. He was Sweden's leading cross country runner during his career.
Dave Levin after winning the World's Heavyweight Championship in 1936 said that wrestling was not on his radar in life. He worked as a butcher prior to professional wrestling but his real dream was to be a fire fighter. He would claim that he "passed the physical examination but would flunk the mental exam." Levin was also a cross- country runner while attending Bushwick High School prior to his butchering apprenticeship.
Fabienne Königstein (née Amrhein; born 25 November 1992) is a German long- distance and cross-country runner. Her major achievements by now were the 6th place at the World University Games 2017 over the Halfmarathon distance, the German Marathon Title 2018 and the 11th place at the European Athletics Championships 2018 in the Women´s Marathon Competition. She also is a several times medalist in German National Championships.
Stanley Edward Eldon (born 1 May 1936 in Windsor, Berkshire) is a retired British cross country runner. Eldon is most notable for winning the International Cross Country Championships held in Cardiff in 1958. Eldon was inspired to become a runner after viewing a film of the 1948 Olympics and joined Eton Athletics Club. In 1956 he ran a junior World Best of 14 minutes 19 seconds over 3 miles.
White's frail appearance had been the cause of considerable concern resulting in a number of English First Division clubs choosing not to risk his signing. However, following reviews received from Mackay and now also Blanchflower, Bill Nicholson signed White for Tottenham Hotspur in the same October as White's international goal against Northern Ireland. Nicholson had also sought reference from the Army and been advised White was a celebrated cross-country runner. White cost £22,000.
At the start of 1992, she finished 7th in the World Cross Country Championships. She won the Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female cross country runner in 1991–92. In 1992, O'Sullivan improved her personal bests in a number of distances between 800 m and 5000 m, setting six Irish national records in the process, including five in the space of 11 days in mid-August following the Barcelona Olympic Games.
Reichenau was a habitual cross-country runner and suffered a stroke after a routine run in cold weather on 14 January 1942. He then sustained severe head injuries when the flight carrying him back to Leipzig for medical attention crashed on landing in Lemberg. Whether he died from his stroke or from injuries sustained in the crash is unknown. He was replaced at Army Group South by Fedor von Bock and given a state funeral.
Romig enrolled at Penn State University where he became a star athlete in distance and cross-country running. He won the two-mile run at the first NCAA track and field championships in 1921 with a time of 9:31. He was Penn State's first NCAA track champion. Romig was also selected as the top cross-country runner for the All-American Athletic Team published in the annual Spalding's Official Athletic Almanac for 1921.

Tendai Chimusasa (born January 28, 1971 in Nyanga) is a retired Zimbabwean long-distance runner. He carried the flag for his native country at the opening ceremony of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. He won the Lisbon Half Marathon 1992 Lisbon Half Marathon winners and Berlin Half Marathon in 1994 and 1997. Chimusasa was also a cross country runner and won the Eurocross meeting in Luxembourg in 1994 and 1996.
Anita Allen (born 1977) is a United States Army medical service officer who competed in the 2004 Olympic Games in the modern pentathlon, where she finished 18th of 32 competitors. A 2000 graduate of West Point, Allen finished first in the riding portion of the event. She was a standout cross country runner while at the academy. She won the women's modern pentathlon on August 11, 2003 at the 2003 Pan American Games.
Lily Matthews (born 30 September 1989) is a Welsh racing cyclist from Builth Wells, Wales. Matthews is a former cross country runner who was forced to quit athletics due to injury. She turned to cycling and went on to represent Great Britain in the under-23 cross-country race at the 2010 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships and Wales in the Women's road race at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. She did not finish the race.
David Sheasby (20 September 1940 – 26 February 2010) was a playwright, director, dramatist and radio producer who was based in Sheffield, England.Guardian obituary, written by Paul Allen The son of a building engineer, Sheasby was born in Fulwood, Sheffield. He was educated at King Edward VII School, where he was a county-standard cross-country runner. The only time he lived outside Sheffield was when he went to the London School of Economics to read history.
Nadia Battocletti (born 12 April 2000) is an Italian female middle distance runner and cross-country runner who won a national title in 2018 and at senior level and became first Italian millennial to do that. In add of this in 2019, establishing her Personal Best with 9:04.46 in 3000 metres, breaking the Italian U-20 record that had lasted for more than 30 years, she had reached the 62nd place in the senior seasonal world lists.
Annemari Birgitta Sandell-Hyvärinen (née Sandell; born 2 January 1977 in Kalanti) is a Finnish long-distance runner. Her best achievement in track running is ninth place at the 1995 World Championships in the 10,000 metres. Nicknamed "Annukka", she competed in 1996 Olympics, finishing 12th in 10000 meters. She is best known as a cross-country runner, in which she won the European Championship in 1995 and finished third on short course at the 1999 World Championships.

The 2006 IAAF World Cross Country Championships took place on April 1/2, 2006. The races were held at the Umi-no-nakamichi Seaside Park in Fukuoka, Japan, Japan's National Cross Country Course which is the permanent residence of the annual Fukuoka International Cross Country meeting. The event was once again dominated by Ethiopian and Kenyan runners and also Eritrean runners. Kenenisa Bekele won both men's individual races, proving himself the most successful Cross country runner.

The Calera softball team has been successful in the last few years. In the 2014, 2015, and 2016 Slow- Pitch season the girls advanced to the state tournament. the 2014 season was the first time any girls' team at Calera High School had made it to a state tournament.
Eunice Chebichii Chumba (born 23 May 1993) is a Kenyan born Bahraini female long distance runner as well as a cross country runner who has represented Bahrain after her switch from Kenya in several international sport events including Asian Games, Asian Athletics Championships, Asian Cross Country Championships. She is currently ranked as 13th all time best runner in half marathon history with a record timing of 1:06:11 which she achieved on 17 September 2017 during the Copenhagen Half Marathon.
Bourgonje was left paralyzed after a car accident in 1980, two months away from graduating high school. She had been a cross country runner, with many athletic scholarship offers to many universities. Her brother needed to be dropped off in Hudson Bay, so Colette and her boyfriend at the time took him in her brother's new car. On the way back, she let her boyfriend drive, and he lost control on the slippery road, and Colette was ejected from the car.

Edward Cheserek (born 2 February 1994) is a Kenyan distance runner. He is a 17-time NCAA champion collegiate distance runner for the University of Oregon. Cheserek was the most highly recruited high school distance runner in the nation out of Saint Benedict's Preparatory School in New Jersey where he was named the Gatorade 2012-2013 National Cross Country Runner of the Year. In 2013, Cheserek became the first freshman in Oregon history to win the NCAA National Cross Country Championships.
Jimenez was born in Mount Vernon, Washington, has a step-father Ramon De Leon, and attended high school at Mount Vernon High School. While at Mount Vernon he played soccer and was a Cross country runner. Jimenez was named thrice Skagit Valley Herald Boys’ Soccer Player of the year and as a senior named Northwest League co-MVP. His senior season as team captain he scored ten goals as Mount Vernon won both league and district titles and reached the quarterfinals of Class 3A state playoffs.

John Williams Overton (October 10, 1894 – July 19, 1918), also known as Johnny Overton, was an American middle-distance runner and soldier who was killed in action in World War I. He was a national champion track and cross country runner at Yale University and joined the United States Marine Corps after his graduation in 1917. In track, he set the world records for the indoor mile run and indoor 1,000-yard distance in 1917. He was also the college cross country champion in 1915 and 1916.
In 1955 Pirie won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. During that year he had beaten Emil Zátopek the triple gold medallist in distance running at the 1952 Olympics. Pirie was an exceptional cross- country runner, winning the English Championship three times. Pirie broke five world records in the course of his career, his annus mirabilis being 1956, when on 19 June in Bergen, Norway, he ran 13:36.8 for 5,000 m, beating Vladimir Kuts (USSR), and knocking 25 seconds from his own personal best.

Bartolina grew up on a sheep farm in Corvallis, Oregon. She lost her eyesight as a baby in a car accident, when a pair of scissors swiped across the dashboard during the collision, causing the injury and limiting her depth perception for life. Despite being blind in one eye, Bartolina did not stop her dream of becoming an Olympic athlete. She started her athletic career as a cross-country runner at age fourteen, until she was advised by her high school track coach Joe Fulton to try out for pole vault.

Dieudonné Disi (right) in 2007 Dieudonné Disi (born 24 November 1980 in Ntyazo, Butare) is a Rwandan long-distance and cross country runner. In 2009 he competed in the marathon at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics, but pulled out at the 28 km mark due to an injury. She won the Belfast International Cross Country twice consecutively in 1992 and 1993, became the 1994 Eurocross champion, and was also a two-time winner of Cross Internacional de Itálica (one of Spain's most prestigious meetings).

Frey grew up in Oakton, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C. His parents were both professional modern ballet dancers; his mother is of Russian Jewish ancestry, and his father converted to Judaism. After graduating from Oakton High School in Vienna, Virginia, Frey attended the College of William & Mary, where he was a distance runner on the track and field team and all-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) cross-country runner. Frey won the 2002 CAA 5,000-meter title in track. Frey graduated from William & Mary in 2004 with a B.A. in government.
Inês Alexandra das Neves Monteiro (born 18 May 1980) is a Portuguese athlete who competes in middle and long distance track running, as well as road running and cross country. She started out as a cross country runner, winning a silver and a gold medal at the 1998 and 1999 European junior race. She has represented Portugal at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics, and has competed twice at the World Championships in Athletics. She is a regular performer at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, generally finishing around 30th place.
Cathy Easker (née Branta; born January 6, 1963) is a retired middle-distance and long distance runner from Slinger, Wisconsin, USA. After achieving Wisconsin state championship high school record times (for division 2 girls) in cross country in both 1979 and 1980, she competed in track and cross country for the Wisconsin Badgers. While at Wisconsin, Branta won the Broderick Award (now the Honda Sports Award) as the nation's best female collegiate cross country runner for the 1984–85 season. She won the gold medal at the 1985 Summer Universiade in Kobe, Japan in the women's 3,000 metres event.
Gerard Denis Reilly (September 27, 1906 – May 18, 1995) was an official at the United States Department of Labor and the chief judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Reilly received his bachelor's and law degrees at Harvard University, where he was a cross country runner. He moved to Washington, D.C. in 1933 to work at the Labor Department under the new administration of Franklin D. Roosevelt. He served as Solicitor of Labor from 1937 to 1941 and as a member of the National Labor Relations Board, an independent agency from 1941 to 1946.
Barbara Dorsey, a professor at the College of Physical Education at the University of Saskatchewan visited Bourgonje in the hospital and encouraged her to continue considering attending, regardless of the accident. She agreed that as long as Colette was able to finish twelfth grade, the university would accept her. She was introduced to Para Sport by the Saskatchewan Wheelchair Sports Association (SWSA) shortly after the accident because she had previously been a cross country runner. She spent the summer of 1980 rehabilitating and wrote an advert in the local paper, thanking her community for their continuous support.

James G. Holdren, Jr. (born 1942) has been coaching cross-country and track and field for 51 years. He began his coaching career at William and Mary while he was still a cross-country runner on the team. In 1988, Holdren won the NHSCA girls track coach of the year award, and he won the NHSCA girls cross- country coach of the year award in 2006. A coach can only win this award once in any particular sport, making it both more honorable and exceptionable that he has won the award both in track and in cross-country.
Kosgei started his international career as a cross country runner and a steeplechaser. He came to prominence as a junior athlete in 1997 when he took the junior bronze medal at the 1997 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, and he also reached the 1997 IAAF Grand Prix Final for the 3000 metres steeplechase. He established his pedigree by setting a world junior record for the event. He emerged as a senior the following year, taking the bronze in the short race at the 1998 IAAF World Cross Country Championships and helping Kenya to the team gold medal.

He has twice won the Foot Locker National High School Cross Country meet, first in 2011 and again in 2012, and was named the 2012-2013 Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year. In 2013, he set a new high school indoor 2 mile record of 8:39.25, replacing Gerry Lindgren's 49-year-old record of 8:40.00. During his senior year, Cheserek was the most highly recruited high school distance runner in the nation.

It has proven fatal to small children in doses as small as 4 ml. A seventeen-year-old cross-country runner at Notre Dame Academy on Staten Island died in April 2007 after her body absorbed methyl salicylate through excessive use of topical muscle-pain relief products. Most instances of human toxicity due to methyl salicylate are a result of over-application of topical analgesics, especially involving children.

She played with Bailieboro Celtic and, at the age of 12, with the boys team at Kingscourt Harps, where she was spotted by FAI scout Mark Leavy and selected for their emerging talent programme. Outside of soccer, Kiernan had been an accomplished cross-country runner, winning the Ulster club juvenile cross-country championship four times with Shercock Athletic Club, and finishing fourth in the Irish U-13 cross-country championships in 2011. She also played Gaelic football for Cavan up to U-16 level.

Philip Mosima (born 1 February 1977) is a Kenyan professional runner who specialises in middle- and long distance running. He was a promising junior cross country runner, winning the junior men's race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 1993. The following year proved to be his breakthrough season, as he repeated his cross country success at the 1994 edition, won the 1500 metres at the African Junior Athletics Championships, and took a bronze medal in the same event at the 1994 World Junior Championships in Athletics in Lisbon. Elizabeth Chepkwana Rumokol (born 26 June 1983) is a Kenyan long-distance runner, who began as a cross country runner before moving into road running, including the marathon. She twice represented her country at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Rumokol made her international debut for Kenya at the 1999 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, finishing twelfth in the junior race. At the 2003 World Cross Country Championships she finished sixth in the long race, while the Kenyan team, of which Rumokol was a part, won the silver medal in the team competition. When John McConnell agreed to coach the first ever baseball team at the new Long Beach State College in 1954, he faced adversity almost from the start. John Dick (29 January 1877 – 14 September 1932) was a Scottish football player and manager. Born in Eaglesham, Renfrewshire, Dick first played for Airdrieonians, but in 1898 he was signed by London side Woolwich Arsenal as one of manager William Elcoat's many Scottish signings, with reserve striker James Devlin going the other way. A strong muscular centre half (in those days the centre half played in midfield), Dick immediately made his debut for Arsenal on the first day of the season (against Luton Town on 3 September 1898), and he only missed four games of his first season. Dick was noted for his formidable stamina (he was a cross-country runner as well and once recorded a time of six-and-a-half miles in 33 minutes, 45 seconds), and was a near ever-present in the Woolwich Arsenal side for the next six seasons; he missed only one game in 1899-1900, and although not a prolific goalscorer (he only scored thirteen times in his entire Arsenal career), he did score twice in a 12-0 demolition of Loughborough on 12 March 1900, Arsenal's record win in a competitive match.
