On the Runway The rest of the fashion world may be talking about "a clear call for change" (in the words of the Boston Consulting Group study commissioned by the Council of Fashion Designers of America) and the "danger of designer creative burnout" and the need to slow things down (after a month of shows, doesn't less seem like more?) and so on and so forth.

To Eagles' biographer Marc Eliot, "The Last Resort" tells "the story of a nation's self- destruction and physical decay told as metaphor for personal creative burnout." In 2016, the editors of Rolling Stone rated "The Last Resort" as the Eagles #27 greatest song.

Signs of creative burnout cast some doubts not only in the minds of fans but within the band themselves. A new direction was taken in the 1980s on a self-titled album Jane (Mask) (1980), that is sometimes referred to as Mask by aficionados. It incorporated new wave, punk and jazzy elements in straight rock configurations and introduced a new vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist, Yugoslavian eccentric Predrag Jovanovic or "Pedja".

Suffering from creative burnout on the series, DeMatteis felt a change was needed. As of issue #125, The Defenders was retitled to The New Defenders as the original four members (Doctor Strange, the Silver Surfer, the Hulk, and Namor) are forced to leave the team,DeAngelo p. 14 in response to an alien prophecy that states that these four, operating as a group, would be responsible for destroying the world. While The Beast reforms the team as an official super-hero team complete with government clearance.

In December 1991 Oldfield's contract with Virgin Records expired, thus ending a partnership that had lasted since 1972 as the first musician signed to the label. Virgin had pressed Oldfield to produce a sequel to his debut album Tubular Bells (1973) for a number of years but Oldfield resisted, partly due to his increasing dissatisfaction in Virgin's efforts to promote his albums and his rift with its co-founder Richard Branson. Oldfield also felt that making a sequel in the 1970s, so soon after its release, would have been "far too obvious" and may lead to creative burnout. The album became Oldfield's best selling album which had continued to sell around 100,000 each year.

In some cases, students may drop out of school to pursue the commercial opportunity or for other reasons; Vlambeer's founders, for example, had started to develop a commercial game while still in school and dropped out when the school demanded rights to the game. Another route for indie development teams comes from experienced developers in the industry who either voluntarily leave to pursue indie projects, typically due to creative burnout from the corporate process, or resulting from termination from the company. Examples of games from such groups include FTL: Faster Than Light, Papers, Please, Darkest Dungeon, and Gone Home. Yet another route are simply those with little to no experience in the games industry, though may have computer experience skills, and come in with ideas and fresh perspectives for games, with ideas that are generally more personable and close to their heart.

XI 126 Other forays into appliance-based sound works included recordings and performances made with a Keystone Model 16CC film projector, a radiator, a coffee maker, and a refrigerator (Montgomery claims that refrigerator recordings were originally made as a protest to his landlord about the excessive noise of the unit he then owned.) The 2002 double CD compilation Pondfloorsample collects much of the audio material created from re- appropriated devices and appliances. By 1994, citing another period of creative burnout, Montgomery took a sabbatical in Europe and then set up residence in rural Pennsylvania. This period saw the initiation of another project using found objects – the Eight Track Magic series of recordings – which were made of audio re-recorded from severely damaged eight track cassettes. Montgomery is also allied with the Kingdoms of Elgaland-Vargaland micronation established by artists Leif Elggren and Carl Michael von Hausswolff, for whom he oversees the Ministry of Lamination.
