Following Hulstrand's leaving for the Idaho Vandals, Margie Hunt McDonald led the team for 9 seasons, finishing her coaching career with over 100 wins and a winning record at Wyoming. Men's rodeo sports have long been governed by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). In 2015, approximately 5,000 cowboys and cowgirls purchased membership in PRCA. The McNeese Cowgirls soccer team plays their games at Cowgirl Field. The soccer program began in 1996, and has since claimed 1 regular season Southland Conference Championship in 2007 and 1 Southland Conference Tournament Championships in 13 tournament appearances. In 2015, the Cowgirl Soccer Team named Drew Fitzgerald just the second Head Coach in program history, following Scooter Savoie who had been at the helm since the founding of the program in 1996. Fitzgerald, who had previously served as the team's Associate Head Coach, made an immediate impact in the program, leading the Cowgirls to a 9-10-1 record and taking the sixth place seed in their 13th Southland Conference Tournament appearance and their first appearance in the second round of the tournament since the 2008 season.

Johnson inherited a swimming and diving program that was consistently in the bottom half of the Mountain West Conference. With a small budget and limited equipment, Johnson relied on recruiting and smart coaching to improve his teams. From 2000-2004, neither the Cowboys nor the Cowgirls finished higher than 4th place at the conference championships. Unsatisfied, Johnson continued recruiting better talent and hired a full-time diving coach to improve that aspect of the program.

Oklahoma State University students, players and staff wore ribbons with the number 4 and the victims' initials in remembrance. A memorial was set up inside the Gallagher- Iba Arena, OSU's basketball venue, bearing semblance to those ribbons. In the episode, filmed in 2005, members of the TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls traveled to California in search of Cavello, their hero. TXRD has named their championship the Calvello Cup in her honor. Lori McNeil attended Oklahoma State University for two years and played tennis for the Cowgirls, reaching the 1983 NCAA Quarterfinals (losing to eventual champion Beth Herr from USC). McNeil played on the WTA Tour for 19 years from 1983–2002. She won a total of 10 singles and 33 doubles titles during her career. Creator and Executive Producer Posie Graeme-Evans had the idea for the creating the show as far back as 1992. She was reading a magazine and saw a picture of a group of Australian cowgirls leaning over a farm gate, with big hats and big white grins. Chaney High School is a public high school in Youngstown, Ohio, United States. It is one of four secondary schools in the Youngstown City School District. Athletic teams compete as the Chaney Cowboys and Cowgirls in the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Aqulia: 94 Pendelton and other rodeos cancelled celebrations because of the war. With professional rodeo women cut from the picture, amateur cowgirls stepped in to fill the void. It was during this period that informal all-girl rodeos were held here and there in the southwest to provide entertainment for the troops. In 1942, Fay Kirkwood staged what was billed as an all-girl rodeo in Bonham, Texas but the program was actually an exhibition rather than a competition.

Over six seasons, Sanchez took the Roadrunners to a 128–11–7 record and the 2004 and 2006 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship. At the same time as he was coaching Metro State, Sanchez also served as the head coach of the Mile High Edge in the W-League. In December 2007, Sanchez moved to the University of Wyoming. Sanchez did not experience as much success with the Cowgirls as with his two previous collegiate teams.

The Crow Fair Rodeo is sponsored annually by the Crow Nation. The rodeo is a daily feature at the Crow Fair, offering a full day's entertainment of youth events, professional Indian cowboys and cowgirls, and horse racing. As of the 2017-2018 school year, enrollment was 3,505 students in grades 9-12, however that number decreased in 2018-2019, as the school split the 9th grade to CHS9. Nugget Nose is the short and feisty ghost of an Old West gold prospector who finds adventure riding his invisible horse. Franch was the starting goalkeeper for Oklahoma State University as a freshman in 2009, playing in 24 games and allowing just 14 goals for a 0.61 GAA. Founded in 2010, the league consists of three teams that play against each other: Bully Chicks, Cowgirls From Hell and Bloody Furias. It is also represented by three travel teams (Team Osom, Lxs Pibxs and Team C) that play against travel teams from other leagues. The name 2x4 is a reference to Tango, the typical music genre of Buenos Aires.

The Durango Kid rejuvenated Charles Starrett's career, winning him a new generation of loyal fans and a new five- year contract. The series was also a useful training ground for novice actresses and fashion models, who would be signed to six-month contracts and cast as cowgirls in Starrett westerns. The 1986–87 Wyoming Cowboys basketball team represented the University of Wyoming in the 1986–87 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. ("Cowboys" is solely used to refer to the university's men's sports; women's teams and athletes are known as "Cowgirls".) The Cowboys, then a member of the Western Athletic Conference, played their home games at the Arena-Auditorium. Rollergirls is a 2006 A&E; Network reality show examining the personalities, antics and motivations of the women involved with the Austin, Texas, Lonestar Rollergirls roller derby league. According to their website, the league was founded in 2001 and is run as a "skater-owned and operated" company. Variety reported on March 13, 2006 that A&E; was canceling the show due to low ratings. The five league teams, of about ten members each, are the Cherry Bombs, Hellcats, Holy Rollers, Putas Del Fuego and Rhinestone Cowgirls.

Reg Lindsay was a performer in the 2KY radio show, On the Melody Trail, from September 1951, alongside, "Joy McKean and Heather McKean, Australia's Melody Cowgirls, Slim Dusty, Gordon Parsons and other hillbilly artists." The McKean Sisters were a country music duo of Joy McKean and her younger sister Heather, who had presented the show since 1949. Heather married Reg Lindsay in 1954, while Joy had married Slim Dusty in 1951. Lindsay was signed to Rodeo Records in 1951, which issued his early material.

The Bedlam Series is the name given to the Oklahoma–Oklahoma State rivalry. It refers to the athletics rivalry between Oklahoma State University Cowboys and Cowgirls and the University of Oklahoma Sooners of the Big 12 Conference. Both schools were also members of the Big Eight Conference before the formation of the Big 12 Conference in 1996, and both were divisional rivals in the Big 12 South Division prior to 2011. The Bedlam Series is, like most other intrastate rivalries, a rivalry that goes beyond one or two sports.

The 2013 Big 12 Conference Women's Soccer Tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Big 12 Conference held on November 6, 8 and 10, 2014. The seven-match tournament was held at the Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Missouri with a combined attendance of 2,787. The 8-team single- elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. Oklahoma State's softball team has appeared in twelve Women's College World Series, in 1977, 1980, 1981, 1982 (AIAW), 1982 (NCAA), 1989, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1998, 2011 and 2019. In 1982, the Cowgirls played in both the last AIAW WCWS and days later the first NCAA WCWS. After having played their way through the 1982 regular season, a conference tournament, NCAA first round, winning an AIAW regional title, a loss in the AIAW WCWS final, the team's marathon season ended with 13-inning and 14-inning one-run losses in the NCAA tournament.

Michele Mary Smith (born June 21, 1967) is an American, former collegiate All- American, two-time medal-winning Olympian, international pro left-handed hitting fastpitch softball pitcher and current sports commentator, originally from Califon, New Jersey. Smith played her college career for the Oklahoma State Cowgirls for the years 1986–89 where she set numerous records in the now defunct Big Eight Conference. She is also a double Olympic Softball gold medalist with the United States women's national softball team, having played in the 1996 and 2000 Summer Olympics. She has been ESPN's lead college softball color analyst since 1998.

She led the Cowgirls to a No. 2 ranking at the 1989 Women's College World Series, where she opened with a 15-strikeout, three-hitter against the Toledo Rockets on May 25. Following a shutout of the Arizona Wildcats the team lost back-to-back games on May 27, with the Fresno State Bulldogs eliminating them from the series. Smith would earn All-Tournament honors for her performance. In high school, Torrero played for the Crusaders of Village Christian School, where she was the team captain as a senior and a two-time CIF first-team selection. Wendi Richter was trained at The Fabulous Moolah's Lillian Ellison School of Professional Wrestling by Leilani Kai, Judy Martin and Joyce Grable and made her professional debut in 1979. In early 1982, Richter tag teamed with Moolah against Velvet McIntyre and Princess Victoria for three matches for the World Wide Wrestling Federation. Richter was later paired with Joyce Grable, with whom she also trained for six weeks, to form a tag team called The Texas Cowgirls. Parsons Stadium in eastern Springdale is host to many events throughout the year, most notably the Rodeo of the Ozarks. This four- day event began in Springdale in 1944 and brings professional cowboys and cowgirls to the city for one of the nation's top outdoor rodeos. Always hosted on Independence Day weekend, the event brings a parade, the Miss Rodeo of the Ozarks Pageant, and the Grand Entrance to the stadium. The Oklahoma State Cowboys basketball team represents Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, United States in NCAA Division I men's basketball competition. (All women's teams at the school are known as Cowgirls.) The Cowboys currently compete in the Big 12 Conference. Oklahoma State men’s basketball has a very rich history of success, having won more national titles and advanced to the NCAA Championship, Final Four, Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen more times than any Big 12 program other than Kansas. Oklahoma State has won a combined 23 regular season conference titles and conference tournament titles, which is the most of any program in the state of Oklahoma.

Bern also serves as the station's sports director, anchoring daily sportscasts as well as serving as the play- by-play broadcaster for Cowboys and Cowgirls athletics. Monday through Friday, the Clark Howard radio program airs from 3pm to 5pm. Throughout the school year, KATL runs a 2-minute Athlete of the Week program every Thursday for high school students from Miles City and the surrounding area. After graduating high school at seventeen, McGinnis went to business school, and then tried her hand as a movie extra in Hollywood. She then moved to Utah where she first worked as a stenographer, and then got a job with the Salt Lake City Sight Seeing Company where to was able to interact with cowboys and cowgirls from the rodeos. After participating in her first relay race at a rodeo in Salt Lake City, she stopped wearing her long corset. She placed third overall and ended by falling and breaking some teeth, but she discovered her passion and signed a contract as a relay race rider.

One piece, ‘Gettin’ It on Near Cedar Hill’, a depiction of two heifers in a rather indelicate position, appeared in Art Forum in 1971, and was reviewed by Robert Pincus-Witten. Robbins was a friend of Terence McKenna, whose influence appears evident in a couple of his books. A main character (Larry Diamond) in Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas advocates a theory similar to those of McKenna, involving the history and cultural influences of psychedelic plants. Boys and girls are more apt to compete against one another in all events in high-school rodeos as well as O-Mok-See competition, where even boys can be seen in traditionally "women's" events such as barrel racing. Outside of the rodeo world, women compete equally with men in nearly all other equestrian events, including the Olympics, and western riding events such as cutting, reining, and endurance riding. Today's working cowgirls generally use clothing, tools and equipment indistinguishable from that of men, other than in color and design, usually preferring a flashier look in competition. Sidesaddles are only seen in exhibitions and a limited number of specialty horse show classes.

Lucia Chase recalls that when the Ballet Theater Company had exclusive rights to stage Rodeo, Agnes DeMille urged the employment of "charming and talented comediennes from the Broadway musical stage" for the role. In the early Wild West shows and rodeos, women competed in all events, sometimes against other women, sometimes with the men. Cowgirls such as Fannie Sperry Steele rode the same "rough stock" and took the same risks as the men (and all while wearing a heavy split skirt that was more encumbering than men's trousers) and competed at major rodeos such as the Calgary Stampede and Cheyenne Frontier Days. Modern rodeo cowgirl Rodeo competition for women changed in the 1920s due to several factors. After 1925, when Eastern promoters started staging indoor rodeos in places like Madison Square Garden, women were generally excluded from the men's events and many of the women's events were dropped.

As with many other Western films of the 1930s-1950s, the Roy Rogers Show featured cowboys and cowgirls riding horses and carrying six-shooters, but unlike traditional westerns, the series had a contemporary setting with automobiles, telephones, and electric lighting. Stalingrad Cowgirls were formed in 2005 by siblings Enni Kivelä, Riina Kivelä and Enni's childhood friend Henna Vaarala in Salla, Finland. In spring of 2006, the band came second in the Simerock band competition held in Rovaniemi. Later in the year, they had a chance to record a demo with Nightwish guitarist Emppu Vuorinen in his homestudio. Many record labels were interested in signing the band, and in spring 2007 they signed a record contract with Warner Music Finland. Their debut album, Somewhere High, was released on September 19, 2007 in Finland and in January 2008 in Sweden and Norway. The Album debuted at No. 31 on the Official Finnish album chart.

Cowboy Town is the tenth studio album by country music duo Brooks & Dunn, released in 2007 (see 2007 in country music) by Arista Nashville and their last studio album before their five-year hiatus from 2010 to 2015 and their most recent album of original material as of 2020. Produced by the duo and Tony Brown, the album has accounted for four Top 20 country singles on the Billboard country singles charts: "Proud of the House We Built," "God Must Be Busy," "Put a Girl in It," and "Cowgirls Don't Cry." The album debuted at #13 on the Billboard albums chart, selling 68,900 copies in the first week of release. To date it has sold over 400,000 copies.

The contestants would be cheered on by a "positive" cast of characters who wanted them to win as much money and prizes as possible; and opposed by a "negative" cast, which wanted contestants to lose. The notion of having people actively rooting against contestants was innovative for Spanish television, something that had never been tried before this show. The "positive" cast consisted of the host of the show and a team of six to eight beautiful girls who served as the host's assistants, called secretaries. The secretaries usually wore sexy uniforms or costumes that reflected the theme of the episode (for instance, they might dress as cowgirls for an episode about the "Far West").

Conversely, some people raised on ranches do not necessarily define themselves cowboys or cowgirls unless they feel their primary job is to work with livestock or if they compete in rodeos. Actual cowboys have derisive expressions for individuals who adopt cowboy mannerisms as a fashion pose without any actual understanding of the culture. For example, a "drugstore cowboy" means someone who wears the clothing but does not actually sit upon anything but the stool of the drugstore soda fountain—or, in modern times, a bar stool. Similarly, the phrase "all hat and no cattle" is used to describe someone (usually male) who boasts about himself, far in excess of any actual accomplishments.

Cowgirls 'N Angels was shot in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Guthrie, Oklahoma including Lazy E Arena and Pawnee, Oklahoma and environs during April–May 2011. The film used already existing rodeos to complete the look as well as two staged rodeos. Rodeo and horseback riding facilities of Oklahoma State University and Barnum Ranch as well as the facilities in Pawnee were used in the shoot and the filmmakers also shot the Guthrie Oklahoma annual parade which included the fictional Sweethearts of the Rodeo drill and trick riding group. The production retained the services of the Sky High Angels drill team from Arkansas as the core Sweethearts of the Rodeo and added the actors cast as well as three professional trick riders from Oklahoma and nearby Texas.

Appearing in arenas with six stadium dates included, Strait performed many of his most popular recordings and performance songs, including uptempo hits such as "Here for a Good Time", "Ocean Front Property", "How 'Bout Them Cowgirls", and "Troubadour", and softer ballads such as "I Saw God Today", "The Chair", and "I Can Still Make Cheyenne". The tour received positive reviews, with one reviewer calling his shows "an embarrassment of riches", and another recognizing Strait's "compelling stage presence and vocal power".

Thurman went on to star as the patient of a San Francisco psychiatrist in the neo-noir drama Final Analysis (1992), opposite Richard Gere and Kim Basinger, and as a blind woman romantically involved with a former policeman in the thriller Jennifer 8 (also 1992), with Andy García. Thurman portrayed a young woman with unusually big thumbs in Gus Van Sant's 1993 adaptation of Tom Robbins' novel Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. The film was a critical and commercial failure, eventually earning Thurman a Golden Raspberry Award nomination for Worst Actress. Ken Highland later relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, where he has been in a long string of garage-oriented bands over the years, including Club Linehan a Go-Go, the Hopelessly Obscure, Johnny & the Jumper Cables, the Kenne Highland Clan, The Goody Goody Gumdrops, and the Vatican Sex Kittens. Eddie Flowers and Rich Coffee moved to Los Angeles in the late 1970s and become active in the underground rock scene there. Flowers started Crawlspace with members of the Lazy Cowgirls in 1985. Coffee sang and played in Thee Fourgiven and the Tommyknockers, influenced by late 1960s pre-punk hard rock bands like the MC5 and The Doors as well as more recent acts like The Cramps, The Gun Club, and Billy Childish.

In 2012, Hayes' music ("C'mon", "Right As Rain", "Always There For Me") appeared in the major motion picture and soundtrack for Cowgirls 'n Angels, which starred Bailee Madison, James Cromwell, Frankie Faison, among others. In addition to Hayes' music being featured in the movie, she had a minor part in the film, dueting with Lonestar's Richie McDonald during one the scenes. Also in 2012, Hayes' music "Wait", "C'mon", "Easy on Me" and "Right As Rain" appeared in the CW Network's Hart of Dixie which stars Rachel Bilson and Scott Porter. On October 22, 2012 Hayes released Any Day Is A Good Day on GMV Nashville and A-OK Entertainment. In January 2013, Billboard magazine's "The 615" named Hayes an "Artist to Watch" in 2013.

While it has been released twice as a single, "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" was notably recorded by other music artists as well. Following its first single release in 1978, American actress and singer Mary Kay Place recorded a version for her 1977 studio album, Aimin' to Please. The song was the eighth track featured on Place's record.. In 1979, it was featured as a track on American country artist Emmylou Harris' Blue Kentucky Girl with vocal harmonies by Dolly Parton and Linda Ronstadt (initially recorded during the 1978 sessions for their Trio album). Harris' version was the tenth track on the project.. An alternative version of this song with verses performed by Harris, Ronstadt and Parton later appeared on the The Complete Trio Collection (2016) album.

Despite being based out of Long Beach, California, they recorded their first EP, My Machine, for a Yugoslav Zagreb based independent label, Zdenko Franjić's Slušaj Najglasnije (Listen Loudest). The Made in Yugoslavia printed on the record sleeve was first interpreted as a joke, and then as indication that the band is very popular in Yugoslavia, even though the members haven't even been to the country yet.[ The Humpers] at Allmusic They released two full-lengths for Sympathy for the Record Industry which were highly praised and three for Caroline/Epitaph. The Humpers, along with label mates The Lazy Cowgirls, The Red Aunts,Trash Can School and Clawhammer, were part of a "garage rock renaissance" which hit Los Angeles in the early 1990s.

After co-starring with Benicio del Toro in a Calvin Klein commercial directed by David Lynch, the director cast her as Annie Blackburn in Twin Peaks, where she appeared in the final six episodes. Following the show's cancellation, Graham reprised the role of Blackburn in the 1992 prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. She featured in Diggstown (1992), alongside James Woods; the well-received Six Degrees of Separation (1993), alongside Will Smith; and The Ballad of Little Jo (1993), alongside Ian McKellen before re-teaming with Gus Van Sant for the critically panned film adaptation of Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, alongside Uma Thurman. The same year she co-starred as Mary Kennedy Taylor in Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle.

The album has a more Western music theme than previous releases, with songs reflecting this theme. The title Cowboy's Sweetheart fits Anderson's own personal profile since she used to be a professional equestrian and horse racer during her time spent away from the music business. Songs included on this album were new songs for Anderson to record, but many were cover versions, including her own Top 30 hit from 1980, "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues", as well as Patsy Montana's 1935 classic Western hit, "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart", and Slim Whitman's "Red River Valley". Pop songs that have a Western theme are also included here, such as Gogi Grant's "The Wayward Wind" (a duet with Emmylou Harris) and Cole Porter's "Don't Fence Me In".

During the 2004–05 season, it won the LSC title again and advanced to the Regional Finals of the NCAA tournament. It would be another decade before it would win its next conference tournament championship in 2015. Nicole Anderson coached the women's basketball team from 2009–10 to 2013–14, compiling an overall record of 26–106 and 16–68 in the LSC. In June 2014, two of the team's players, Aubree Butts and Devin Oliver, were killed in a car crash that also injured their teammates La'Tisha Hearne and Zenobia Winbush. Additionally in 2014, 1998 A&M;–Commerce graduate Miranda Serna, who was at the time working as an assistant coach for the Oklahoma State Cowgirls basketball team, was killed in a plane crash.

The final two exhibitions to be held there were the Latin-British Exhibition of 1912 and the Anglo-American Exhibition of 1914, which included a working model of the Panama Canal, a replica of New York City (complete with skyscrapers), and a scale model of the Colorado Grand Canyon. Brooks & Dunn recorded "If You See Him/If You See Her" with Reba McEntire, who later provided a guest vocal on a re-release of the duo's 2008 single "Cowgirls Don't Cry". Brooks & Dunn collaborated with Reba McEntire to perform "If You See Him/If You See Her", which was the lead-off single to Brooks & Dunn's If You See Her and McEntire's If You See Him, both of which were released on the same day. Arista Nashville and MCA Nashville, the label to which McEntire was signed, both promoted the single. This cut went to number one, as did If You See Her's next two singles: "How Long Gone" and a cover of Roger Miller's "Husbands and Wives", which also became the duo's first top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her songwriting attracted attention when she was a student at Stanford University, where she headlined Take Back the Night Marches and taught songwriting to victims of domestic abuse at the Peninsula YMCA in the Bay Area. Jenn Lindsay started gigging professionally at age 19 while on a "year abroad" in the acting program at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. She moved to New York City in 2001 and was named the "best female singer-songwriter in NYC"lindsay by online radio station Radio Crystal Blue. Since Jenn started touring nationally, she has played her songs in exchange for free catfish in Alabama, sang to a room full of friendly cowgirls in Amarillo Texas, entertained in Vegas, and played encores to Ladyfest attendees in Memphis, Brooklyn, Santa Cruz and Ottawa.

In 1974 she sang the song "The Man Who Couldn't Afford to Orgy" on his album Fear. She subsequently performed with him at concerts and on other recordings, including his 1987 live album Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. "R.A.F." (b/w "Kings Lead Hat"), a 1978 Eno song by Snatch and Eno (Polydor Records) that involves sound elements from a Baader Meinhof ransom message made by public telephone at the time of the Lufthansa Flight 181 hijacking, provides insight into Nylon's innovative sound montage/cut-up practice—as does the 1983 Snatch roundup LP Witch I, aided by Jon Savage's liner notes. Along with Patti Palladin she also sang backing vocals with Johnny Thunders' All Stars on his early 1978 shows, which also featured members of The Only Ones.

As an amateur, Bodén was Swedish Junior National champion twice, and a member of the Swedish national team 1995–2000, representing her country in two World Amateur Team Championships, the 1998 and 2000 Espirito Santo Trophy. Bodén played golf at Oklahoma State where she qualified individually for the NCAA Women's Golf Championship three years running. A first-team All-American in 1999 and 2000, and three times Big-12 player of the year, she joined a group of only eight Cowgirls to earn at least three All-Big 12 selections, including Linnea Johansson, Caroline Hedwall, Pernilla Lindberg, Karin Sjödin and Linda Wessberg. Graduating with a degree in Anatomy and Physiology she was an Academic All-American, Oklahoma State Sportswoman of the Year in 2001, and won eight times representing her school.

Though most of Van Sant's other films received favourable reviews, such as Finding Forrester (2000) and Paranoid Park (2007), some of his efforts, such as the art house production Last Days (2005) and the environmental drama Promised Land (2012), have received more mixed reviews from critics, while his adaptation of Tom Robbins's Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (1993), his 1998 remake of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, and The Sea of Trees (2015), were critical and commercial failures. Born in Modena, Italy, Piancastelli moved to Carlsbad, California with her family at age five and graduated from Carlsbad High School in 2014. She attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana. With the McNeese State Cowgirls softball team, she debuted on February 6, 2015 in a win against Florida Gulf Coast, with a 2/4 performance with a double and a RBI. She would earn conference Freshman and Player of The Year accolades and was recognized Third Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association after leading the team in hits, average, RBIs, home runs, doubles and slugging, the homers were a new school record and her hits and average career bests. On March 6, Piancastelli hit two home runs to drive in a career-best 5 RBIs against the Sam Houston State Bearkats.

On March 17, Osterman struck out 13 Michigan Wolverines batters in her first loss of the season (following 17 consecutive wins) to become the first pitcher in NCAA Division I history to enter the 1,900 Strikeout Club. On March 19, she threw her second win (third of her career) over the No. 1 Arizona Wildcats in 9-innings, allowing a hit and whiffing 19. On April 5, she struck out 5 Texas A&M; Aggies batters to become the first pitcher to enter the 2,000 Strikeout Club; her milestone strikeout was against leadoff third-baseman Jamie Hinshaw. On April 29, Osterman struck out 16 Oklahoma State Cowgirls batters to become the first pitcher to enter the 2,100 Strikeout Club; on May 26, she struck out 16 Washington Huskies to become the first pitcher to enter the 2,200 Strikeout Club.

Banham is also a professional theatre playwright and director, directing Othello, Macbeth, Henry V, Twelfth Night, and A Doll's House for Seattle Shakespeare Company; Merchant of Venice for Wooden O Theatre; Of Mice and Men, Mauritius and Superior Donuts for Seattle Public Theatre; Crooked for Theater Schmeater; and three of his own plays, adaptations of Ethan Frome, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues (with Jennifer Sue Johnson) and Romance with a Double Bass (based on four short stories by Anton Chekhov), all for Book-It Repertory Theatre. Broadway World called Banham's direction of A Doll's House for Seattle Shakespeare Company a “crisp and engaging production. Once again he has assembled a stellar cast and crew and molded the story into a rock solid evening of theater.” He is a recipient of five Seattle Times Footlight Awards as the city's Best Director.

There is little doubt that women, particularly the wives and daughters of men who owned small ranches and could not afford to hire large numbers of outside laborers, worked side by side with men and thus needed to ride horses and be able to perform related tasks. The largely undocumented contributions of women to the west were acknowledged in law; the western states led the United States in granting women the right to vote, beginning with Wyoming in 1869. Early photographers such as Evelyn Cameron documented the life of working ranch women and cowgirls during the late 19th and early 20th century. While impractical for everyday work, the sidesaddle was a tool that gave women the ability to ride horses in "respectable" public settings instead of being left on foot or confined to horse-drawn vehicles.

In 2005, the United States Senate declared the fourth Saturday of July as "National Day of the American Cowboy" via a Senate resolution and has subsequently renewed this resolution each year, with the United States House of Representatives periodically issuing statements of support. The long history of the West in popular culture tends to define those clothed in Western clothing as cowboys or cowgirls whether they have ever been on a horse or not. This is especially true when applied to entertainers and those in the public arena who wear western wear as part of their persona. However, the reality is that many people, particularly in the West, including lawyers, bankers, and other white collar professionals wear elements of Western clothing, particularly cowboy boots or hats, as a matter of form even though they have other jobs.

Skolnick was hired in 2001 as senior producer at Hyperspace Cowgirls, a small interactive studio based in Manhattan that was moving from developing websites and CD-ROMs to developing video games. Here he learned more about video game development and oversaw the production of THQ titles such as Britney's Dance Beat for PC, Stuart Little 2 for PC, and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron for Game Boy Advance. In 2002 Skolnick moved upstate to work as a producer for the prominent video game developer (and Activision Blizzard subsidiary) Vicarious Visions, where he managed the development of titles such as Crash Bandicoot Purple, Shrek 2: Beg for Mercy!, Ultimate Spider-Man GBA, Over the Hedge DS, and Guitar Hero III Wii. Skolnick also served as the company’s unofficial editorial director, providing writing and editing guidance for numerous Vicarious Visions titles.

If a cop tries to enter the boundaries of Old Town while on duty, he is sent back with his tail between his legs -- usually after being humiliated by the girls --. Nevertheless, he is sent back alive; The Big Fat Kill illustrates the danger of what would happen if a cop were ever discovered to have been murdered on Old Town turf, and the lengths the mob were willing to go to in order to seize control of the neighborhood. The girls themselves are portrayed fairly sympathetically in the series, usually as hookers with hearts of gold in a male-dominated metropolis, while not averse to issuing their own brand of justice on those who cross them. Many of the characters appear as caricatures of popular female stereotypes and pop culture icons, such as Old Town girls dressed as Wonder Woman, Zorro, Southern belles and cowgirls.

Van Sant's next film, a 1993 adaptation of Tom Robbins' Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, was an excessive flop, both commercially and critically. Featuring an unusually large budget (for Van Sant, at least) of $8.5 million and a large, eclectic cast including Uma Thurman, John Hurt, Keanu Reeves and a newcomer in the form of River Phoenix's younger sister Rain (at Phoenix's suggestion), the film was worked and then reworked, but the finished product nonetheless resulted in something approaching a significant disaster. Van Sant's 1995 film To Die For helped to restore his luster. An adaptation of Joyce Maynard's novel, the black comedy starred Nicole Kidman as a murderously ambitious weather girl; it also stars Matt Dillon as her hapless husband and, the third Phoenix sibling in as many projects, Joaquin Phoenix, as her equally hapless lover (River had died from a drug overdose a year and half earlier).

Crazy Days, as it's referred to locally, is a Moline festival event open completely to the public and is always held the during the last full weekend of June at the Griffin City Park. The event starts off Friday evening with a "bean feed" consisting of ham and beans, cornbread, and all the fixings. After the bean feed, a baked-goods benefit auction is held at the same location with the proceeds used to make improvements and repairs to the local Moline infrastructure. Saturday morning the day kicks off with a community parade which usually consists of local law enforcement, ambulances, fire fighters, cowboys and cowgirls on their horses, farmers on their tractors, children in wagons and on bicycles, teens on ATV's, and a variety of unique floats created by local organizations and businesses, all of whom throw candy to youngsters lined up on each side of the main street.

The Hall of Fame includes over 125 cowboys and cowgirls, each of whom has a booth to display personal memorabilia. The museum, located in Historic Barn A, is also home to The Sterquell Wagon Collection, John Justin Trail of Fame, Chisholm Trail Exhibit, The Applewhite-Clark Exhibit, Adventures of the Cowboy Trail, Zigrang Horse Bit Collection, Amon G. Carter's 1933 Cadillac and The Jersey Lilly Old-Tyme Photo Parlour. The Hall of Fame was established in 1997 and its original purpose was to recognize excellent horsemen and women.

Robbins also traveled to Timbuktu. As of 2013, Robbins is a member of the Marijuana Policy Project's Advisory Board, alongside numerous other notable figures such as Jack Black, Ani DiFranco, Tommy Chong, and Jello Biafra; he has been honoured at the Laureate Dinner of Seattle's Rainier Club that has also recognized other local figures, such as Charles Johnson, Stephen Wadsworth, Timothy Egan and August Wilson; and he sits on the board of directors of The Greater Seattle Bureau of Fearless Ideas (formerly 826 Seattle), "a nonprofit writing and tutoring center dedicated to helping youth, ages six to 18, improve their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write." Madame Zoe, a Richmond psychic and palm reader who once lived in Richmond's South Side, was fictionalized in Robbins' Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. In 2016 Richmond artists Noah Scalin and Thea Duskin recreated her bedroom as an installation in the art gallery at Chop Suey Books in Carytown in Richmond.

Vegas 96 is a triple live album from the American jam band Phish, recorded live at the Aladdin Theatre in Las Vegas, Nevada, on December 6, 1996. In addition to the 3-CD set, a limited edition box version also includes a DVD with archival footage from the show and an extensive 40-page bound-book featuring photos and notes. The show features a large amount of extended improvisation on Phish classics such as "Harry Hood" and "Weekapaug Groove", as well as a cover of Frank Zappa's "Peaches en Regalia". The encore features a half-hour version of "Harpua" with guest appearances from Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde of the band Primus, John McEuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, actor Courtney Gains from Children of the Corn, a group of Elvis impersonators, and a pair known as the "Yodeling Cowgirls", who performed "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart", accompanied by John McEuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on a pedal-steel guitar.

Buck Horne and his faithful horse Injun were once the heroes of many a Western movie in the early days of Hollywood, but when tastes changed, Buck found his talents no longer required. Down on his luck, he went to work in a rodeo exhibition that was appearing in a New York coliseum, giving exhibitions of roping, fancy shooting, and the riding tricks that made him famous. With twenty thousand people in the stands, a group of celebrities including detective Ellery Queen in the boxes, and a full cohort of newsreel movie photographers recording the event for posterity, Buck and forty-one cowboys and cowgirls gallop around the track, whooping and firing their six-guns — until the former movie star is shot in the heart and trampled under the galloping hooves. English has produced images on the street, in museums, in movies, books and television. He coined the term POPaganda to describe a mash-up of high and low cultural touchstones, from superhero mythology to totems of art history, populated with his original characters, including MC Supersized, the obese fast-food mascot featured in the movie Super Size Me, and Abraham Obama, the fusion of America's 16th and 44th Presidents. Other characters in English's paintings, billboards, and sculpture include three-eyed rabbits, cowgirls and grinning skulls – visual, with humorous undertones. English was interviewed for the documentary Super Size Me (2004), which showed his McDonald's-themed artwork—inspired by his belief about the effect of fast food franchises and restaurant chains on American culture – "MC Supersized" is English's interpretation of Ronald McDonald, a western culture "Buddha" eating a diet of what is sold by McDonald's in the religion of consumerism and an over-sated devotee.

After the 2006 tour, Schulte, Robbins and Duggen were replaced, and the new line-up was then: David Surkamp (vocals and guitar), Mike Safron (drums), Sara Surkamp (vocals and guitar), "Bongo" Bill Costello (mellotron), Bill Franco (lead guitar), David Karns (bass), Michael McElvain (keyboards) and Andrea Young (violin). This line-up played two tours in 2007, including the first tours in Greece and Crete in March 2007, and then touring Europe in the summer of 2007 playing venues such as Spirit of 66 in Verviers, BE as well as headlining both the Burg Herzberg Festival in 2007 (25,000 people). This coincided with the 2007 release of a solo album by Surkamp, Dancing on the Edge of a Teacup, by Rockville Music. The Burg Herzberg performance had also been filmed and recorded, but has not been released in any but bootlegged formats. In 2008, David Karns, Bill Franco, Michael McElvain and Andrea Young were unable to return due to previous commitments (Karns and Franco playing with Anthony Gomes, Young playing with the Reverse Cowgirls and McElvain finishing his graduate music studies).

" The homecoming football game between Oklahoma State and Kansas – in which the Cowboys defeated the Jayhawks, 58-10 – was played as scheduled at 2:30 p.m. that afternoon; a pep rally originally set to be held before the game was cancelled, however. Before the game (which was televised nationally on FS1), Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, an alumna of the university who was in attendance at the game, led players and spectators in a moment of prayer as the United States flag flew at half staff in Boone Pickens Stadium. Fallin expressed condolences during a press conference that occurred during halftime of the game, "Our hearts and prayers go out with those who lost loved ones today, to those that were injured in the tragedy," and referenced the two previous tragedies involving the university during the past 14 years (the January 2001 plane crash that killed ten members of the Cowboys basketball team and the November 2011 plane crash that killed four people, including Cowgirls basketball head coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna), adding "One thing I do know about Oklahoma people. They’re strong.

From 1992 to 2000, KOCB served as the broadcast home for the Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys under respective agreements with the University of Oklahoma's Sooner Sports Network and Oklahoma State University's Cowboys Sports Network syndication services; the station typically broadcast between five and eight Sooners, Cowboys and Cowgirls regular season basketball games each annually during the run of the contract, as well as various magazine and analysis programs involving the two universities' football and basketball teams. From 1991 to 1994 and from 1995 to 1997, KOCB carried regular season Major League Baseball games featuring the Texas Rangers (produced by KTVT in Dallas–Fort Worth). In addition, in 1993, the station held the local syndication rights to broadcast MLB games involving the Kansas City Royals (distributed by KSMO-TV in Kansas City, which Sinclair owned alongside KOCB from 1996 to 2005). From 1998 to 2014, the station also aired college basketball games from the Big 12 Conference that were syndicated by ESPN Plus; KOCB aired between ten and twelve regular season games each year as well as games from the first three rounds of the Big 12 Men's Basketball Tournament, with most college basketball telecasts airing on Saturday afternoons with occasional weeknight prime time games.
