The Covin is a kit car replica of the Porsche 911 Turbo created by Tim Cook and Nick Vincent in the early 1980s. The name Covin came about from CO (Cook) and VIN (Vincent) to produce COVIN Performance Mouldings. Early models of the Covin were based on a shortened Beetle floorpan/running gear but later used its own Covin chassis and VW Type 3 running gear. The company was sold in the 1990s to DAX and later moved to new owners GPC and was relocated to County Galway in Ireland where up to now the Covin has not been produced again.

Two logging companies, Coosa Lumber Company and Covin Lumber Company, operated railways in the immediate area. A saw mill, planing mill, and dry kiln also operated in Covin. At one point, there were three grist mills in operation in Covin. A post office operated under the name Brockton from 1884 to 1890, under the name Tallula from 1890 to 1892, and under the name Covin from 1892 to 1958.

The Covin came in three body styles all based on the Turbo model. These were, Flatnose and Coupe, both were also available in a convertible version. There is also known to be only one narrow body Covin ever made. Covin also produced a few 356 Speedster models but these are rather rare.

The community was originally named Brockton after the first postmaster, Reuben J. Brock. The name was then changed to Tallula, possibly after Tallulah, Louisiana. Finally, the name was changed to Covin in honor of L. E. Covin, who donated the land for the railroad depot. Covin was located on the Southern Railway.

The Shackelford family was an African-American family who lived in Covin. The family was known for their service as photographers, and a considerable amount of their photographs have survived. They also operated a general store, saw mill, and syrup mill in Covin, and assisted in opening a school and Baptist church. A collection of their photographs have been displayed at the Birmingham Public Library, the History Museum of Mobile, and the Rosa Parks Museum.

Jules Charles Covin was born in Saint-Saulve, France on 18 October 1895. He began his military service on 2 December 1914, being posted to the 3eme Group d'Aviation. His success in pilot's training was rewarded by Military Pilot's Brevet No. on 30 January 1915. His second flying assignment, on 28 August 1916, was to Escadrille 52, with whom he scored his first aerial victory, on 10 November 1916.

A fight breaks out; Covin is about to push Storm off the mountain when a poisonous snake bites him; he falls to his death. The Covin Trysting Tree, Bemersyde, Melrose, Grid Ref: NT 593 334, is a Sweet Chestnut (Castanea sativa) with a height of 12.6 m and a diameter of 252 cm and is 500–800 years old. The tree has long been a feature of Bemersyde, appearing in many paintings of the house including a sketch by Turner, located in the British Museum, London.

The old rings that can be seen in the branches of the original Covin Tree were once attached to concrete weights which aimed to balance the trunk – in its younger days the tree was twice as high as it is now. The 'Kissing Beech' is located at Kilravock Castle, Inverness-shire.
