The R42 re-enters Gauteng Province and meets the R29 Road and N17 National Route on their route midway between Springs and Devon. The R42 continues south-west, bypassing the Marievale Bird Sanctuary and Nigel Dam as Nigel- Delmas Road, to Nigel. The journey from Delmas to Nigel is 43km. In Nigel, at the Balfour Road junction, the R42 cosigns with the R51 and R550 for a few kilometres westwards, forming the northern border of Nigel's CBD, up to the main four-way junction after the Glenverloch suburb.

At that junction, CR 66 runs parallel to I-40 all the way to Ludlow, but then turns southeast towards Amboy Crater National Natural Landmark. It then heads back towards I-40, crossing paths with the freeway again at Fenner, before heading east on Goffs Road to the junction with US 95. Passing under Main Reef Road (R41), the M5 becomes Marais Street and Du Toit Avenue in Paarlshoop. Ending briefly at the intersection of Albertina Sisulu Road in Langlaagte North, it cosigns with the R24 Albertina Sisulu Road eastwards and turns north again at St Jerome Avenue, becoming Mercury Street (separating Langlaagte North from Mayfair West). Turning right into High Street then left into Ditton Avenue in Brixton, the M5 passes the University of Johannesburg.

In Bonaero Park, the M43 turns right while Atlas Road continues about 500m and junctions with the R21 freeway. After 400m the M43 turns left into Great North Road where it cosigns with M45 continuing north where it flies over the R21 freeway to enter Kempton Park. After a short distance the two roads split with the M43 heading right as Dann Road to pass through the Glen Marais Suburb of Kempton Park. At the Birchleigh AH suburb, the road turns left into Velt street and after 100m turns right and after 1 km, the M43's northern terminus is reached at a t-junction with M57 Pretoria Road, Birchleigh.
