The 1938 Hupmobile Evanair-Conditioner, together with the concurrent Nash Weather Eye, were the automobile industry's first fresh-air hot water heating systems. Kelch fresh-air exhaust heaters had been available on Packard automobiles for several years prior to the introduction of these systems. The Hupmobile system differed from the better-known Nash system by drawing up to of fresh outside air per minute through special hood louvers and thence through filters and heating coils into the passenger compartment. The Evanair- Conditioner, unlike the Weather Eye, was mounted entirely within the engine compartment, and the hot-water control switch was mounted on the dashboard.

Friedrich Natalis (1864–1935), who had been working for the Schuckert-Werke (later Siemens-Schuckertwerke) since 1897, had already developed the cam- switching principle in Germany before 1900. In 1895, however, Johann Sigmund Schuckert founder of the electrical engineering company Schuckert & Co supplied cam switches with cam rollers and spring-loaded individual switches (DRP 88586). The switches maintain the orderly progression of the cell cycle and act as checkpoints to ensure that each phase has been properly completed before progression to the next phase. For example, Cdk, or cyclin dependent kinase, is a major control switch for the cell cycle and it allows the cell to move from G1 to S or G2 to M by adding phosphate to protein substrates. Such multi-component (involving multiple inter-linked proteins) switches have been shown to generate decisive, robust (and potentially irreversible) transitions and trigger stable oscillations. It was a forerunner of the one control switch system; the levers set up routes; when the lever was moved to mid-stroke the interlocking proved that the route was free and no conflicting move had been set up; and the points moved to the required position, after which the lever could be moved to the reverse position and the signal cleared. A single design of PCB (printed circuit board) provides crystal oscillator regulated power for both 33⅓ rpm and 45 rpm operation, and is offered with a choice of enclosures and installation kits to suit different makes and models of turntable, such as the Linn Sondek LP12, as well as certain models from Rega, Thorens, and others. The so-called "Mose" enclosure is claimed to provide a sound quality enhancement to the standard power supply, and is offered with either an integrated or separate control switch. The products are designed by Edmund Chan, and have been produced in Hong Kong since 2006.

A clothes dryer using a load control switch to reduce peak demand In principle, any appliance that operates to a duty cycle (such as industrial or domestic air conditioners, water heaters, heat pumps and refrigeration) could be used to provide a constant and reliable grid balancing service by timing their duty cycles in response to system load. Because it is possible to measure grid frequency from any power outlet on the grid, it is possible to design controllers for electrical appliances that detect any frequency imbalance in real time. Dynamic-demand enabled appliances would react to this same signal. When the frequency decreases they would be more likely to switch off, reducing the load on the grid and helping to restore the balance.

Batman vol. 3, #69 (March 2019) In the 1960s Batman TV show, the cave entrance is behind a bookcase which was opened when Bruce Wayne activated a control switch hidden in a bust of William Shakespeare; when the secret switch is turned, the bookcase slides to one side, revealing the "Bat-Poles", which allow Bruce Wayne and his ward Dick Grayson to change into their Batman and Robin costumes en route as they slide down to the cave. An entrance under Bruce Wayne's chair in his office in Wayne Enterprises, as shown in Batman Forever, connects to a miles-long tunnel which Bruce travels through in a high-speed personal transportation capsule. In Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises, the cave is accessible through a secret door disguised as part of a large display case and is unlocked by pressing a sequence of keys on the nearby grand piano.

The Odyssey was introduced in 1994 as Honda's first minivan -- based on the Accord platform, with a 4-cylinder engine, all-disc anti-lock braking, all wishbone suspension, and a four-speed automatic transmission with a steering-column-mounted shifter and a hill-hold feature, marketed as Grade Logic. This class of vehicles would subsequently become known as Compact MPV. The design featured unibody construction, dual airbags, dual gloveboxes, dual zone heating and cooling with 20 percent greater capacity than an Accord's system (overhead rear fan- speed adjustment control, and main control switch over the front-seat passenger), conventional rear swing-open rather than sliding doors, and a third row seat that could fold and tumble into a compartment beneath the floor -- the spacesaver spare tire carried inside, on the right, rear wall of the cabin. Honda marketed the first generation Odyssey in two trim levels.

The single-ended primary-inductor converter (SEPIC) is a type of DC/DC converter that allows the electrical potential (voltage) at its output to be greater than, less than, or equal to that at its input. The output of the SEPIC is controlled by the duty cycle of the control switch (S1). A SEPIC is essentially a boost converter followed by an inverted buck-boost converter, therefore it is similar to a traditional buck-boost converter, but has advantages of having non-inverted output (the output has the same voltage polarity as the input), using a series capacitor to couple energy from the input to the output (and thus can respond more gracefully to a short-circuit output), and being capable of true shutdown: when the switch S1 is turned off enough, the output (V0) drops to 0 V, following a fairly hefty transient dump of charge.

New aluminum-alloy wheels options also became available, and the transmission shift lever for the automatic transmission and manual four-wheel-drive (4X4) system were both redesigned. Even with the Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited being new, the 3.8L V6 gas engine and four-speed automatic transmission would not be replaced by the 3.6L Pentastar VVT V6 gas engine and five-speed automatic transmission until the 2012 model year.
