The observatory is open 7 days a week, year round, except for December 24 and 25 and during times of inclement weather. Guided tours of the 200-inch Hale Telescope dome and observing area are available Saturdays and Sundays from April through October. There are a visitor center and a gift shop on the grounds. Uma Devi Badi refused to settle for society's expectations of women of her caste and escaped life as a prostitute in order to work towards offering her community better opportunities for their future. At the age of 40, with the support of Action Aid, she became head of the local organisation Community Support Group and set up a hostel for 25 boys and girls of the Badi caste in a rented property in Tikapur, western Nepal. The children are given accommodation there and sent to the local school as well as being given extra support after school with their literacy and numeracy skills. The success of this project has led to a larger project currently under construction which aims to host over 100 children in future.

Community Family clubs also provide opportunities to create strong partnerships with corporations, schools, faith-based communities, child care settings and other community organizations to advance the needs of children, youth and families across the country. Families come together once a month to share a meal and participate in a recognition ceremony designed to recognize both individual and group accomplishments. The club then breaks into age-level groups for an activity session led by a team of parents who volunteer for the short-term assignment for that month. This program offers parents and guardians the ability to find a community support group for raising their families, and also provides positive family interaction base on structured, educational and fun experiences and activities.
