New York Electric Piano is an American jazz band created in 2003 by keyboardist Pat Daugherty. The band started as a trio with Aaron Comess (of Spin Doctors) playing drums and Tim Givens on double bass. For later albums, they expanded to six and then eight musicians. Their sixth album, Keys to the City, spent a month in the top ten of CMJ's Jazz Chart.

While the record received good reviews, follow-up proved difficult when the record company that released it went out of business. In 2008, the band continued to play one-off live shows in the United States and Europe. Drummer Aaron Comess released an instrumental record of all his own compositions entitled Catskills Cry featuring bassist Tony Levin and guitarist Bill Dillon. In 2009, Barron released the solo record Pancho and the Kid on Valley Entertainment.

New York Electric Piano began as a trio built around the sound of a Fender Rhodes. Daugherty, Givens, and Comess met in the late 1990s and started the band in 2003. The trio's first album, New York Electric Piano, peaked in the top 20 of the CMJ Jazz Charts. In 2010, the band added a guitarist and a saxophonist and began to perform on a regular basis at the Zinc Bar in New York City.

Popper left this side project to focus on his main gig with Blues Traveler full-time. With a name change to Spin Doctors, as well as the addition of Aaron Comess and Mark White, the classic lineup was in place by the spring of 1989. On May 17, 1999, just two weeks before the release of the band's album Here Comes the Bride, Barron woke up unable to talk. He lost his voice due to a rare acute form of vocal cord paralysis that severely affected his ability to talk, let alone sing.

Kostabi has performed his musical compositions as a soloist and with other musicians including Ornette Coleman, Jerry Marotta, Tony Levin, Stefano di Battista, Gene Pritsker, Mark Egan, Lukas Ligeti, Dave Taylor (trombonist), Chris Parker, Tommy Campbell, John Clark, Aaron Comess, John Lee and Paul Kostabi. His compositions have also been performed independently by Kathleen Supové, Rein Rannap, Kristjan Järvi, Marko Martin, Peter Jarvis, Kai Schumacher and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. His debut album, I Did It Steinway was released on Artists Only Records in October 1998. Produced by Dale Ashley and Charles Coleman, the album features original compositions by Kostabi, and was recorded at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City.
