Later they divorce, leaving him custody of the children. In 1966, Mesrine, now a gangster, goes into a bar. A woman named Jeanne Schneider comes on to him and the pair quickly fall in love.

When a co-worker comes on to George, Jerry gives him permission to leave with her in his car, even though this strands Jerry and Elaine at the party.
