Joe Hill's short story "Bobby Conroy Comes Back From the Dead" takes place on the set of Dawn of the Dead. The story focuses on two extras playing zombies, and Romero and Savini appear as two minor characters. The 2006 video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, features a mission called "Brawn of the Dead", which is a pun on the film’s title, and is one of many other film references made in the game. The mission also takes place on the set of a zombie film being shot in a mall during closing hours.

The story is a remake of a Spanish-language telenovela El Cuerpo del Deseo produced by Telemundo which had aired on NTV Uganda in 2009 winning NTV a big audience in Uganda. NTV Uganda acquired rights to produce a Ugandan version which features big names like former UNEB Chairman Fagil Mandy as Peter Byekwaso, former Miss Uganda Stellah Nantumbwe as Isabel Byekwaso, sexy media personality Laura Kahunde acting as Angela, Roger Mugisha acting Saava Ssebina, Housen Mushema as Andrew Masa. This limited-run series is about a man who comes back from the dead and discovers dark secrets about his beautiful widow.

Idle responded to queries about a Python reunion by adapting a line used by George Harrison in response to queries about a possible Beatles reunion. When asked in November 1989 about such a possibility, Harrison responded: "As far as I'm concerned, there won't be a Beatles reunion as long as John Lennon remains dead." B. Drake's The Remedy (1925; published in the U.S. as The Shadowy Thing), in which a character with the power of mind-transference comes back from the dead by possessing the body of an injured friend. Peter Cannon wrote two sequels to "The Thing on the Doorstep": “The Revenge of Azathoth” (1994) and “The House of Azathoth” (1996).

Stephen Lowe (born December 1947) is an English playwright and director. Lowe's plays have dealt with subjects ranging from the takeover of Tibet by the Chinese People's Liberation Army in 1959 (Tibetan Inroads) to a dying DH Lawrence trying find a publisher for Lady Chatterley (Empty Bed Blues); from Donald McGill postcards (Cards and Kisses on the Bottom) to Dr John Dee (The Alchemical Wedding). His best known plays are Touched, about a group of working-class women in Nottingham at the end of the second world war; The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, about a group of house-painters in 1906 (adapted from the novel by Robert Tressell); and Old Big ‘Ead in the Spirit of the Man, in which football hero Brian Clough comes back from the dead to inspire a playwright working on his latest play. He has had plays produced by the Royal Court, Royal Shakespeare Company, Riverside Studios, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Hampstead Theatre, Joint Stock; and at regional theatres across the country including Scarborough Theatre in the Round, Sheffield Crucible, Liverpool Playhouse, Derby Playhouse, Birmingham Rep, Salisbury Playhouse and Plymouth Theatre Royal.
