The most recent special designs, in 2016 and 2017, were only for collectors. The 2016 collector's piece, for the Queen's 90th birthday, has a one-year-only portrait of her on the obverse designed by James Butler. The 2017 collector's piece returned to Pistrucci's original design of 1817 for the modern sovereign's 200th birthday, with the Garter belt and motto. A piedfort was also minted, and the bullion sovereign struck at Llantrisant, though retaining the customary design, was given a privy mark with the number 200.

Treasure Chest is a 3 disc box set by the German power metal group Helloween. Originally seen as quite the collection for fans/collectors worldwide the box consists 2 discs compiling (and remastering) some of their finest works of their 1985-2000 albums as well as a third (bonus disc) featuring many rare b'sides from the band's past singles. However, since the 2006 remastering and expansion of most of Helloween's back catalogue, featuring all of the tracks here (plus much more), this box is now seen mainly as a collector's piece.

Upgrades that are easily reversible to the original condition, or were available when the vehicle was current, would be less likely to be controversial. Less acceptable to the classic car market may be major alterations like engine swaps or gearbox transplants, which would be more like hot rodding. Depending upon how appropriate the upgrades are considered by other owners of the same model, this may reduce or enhance the value of the car. If the car is in regular use non-original upgrades would be likely to be more acceptable, than if the car is a stored collector's piece where originality would be more important.
