Chic Murray was born in Toronto in 1914 and worked as a salesman until he entered public life. He married Josephine Keith on September 24, 1938 and had four children. Murray died in Mississauga in 1984. The Chic Murray Indoor Arena at the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre in Mississauga is named in his honour.

Busby was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was responsible for training Glasgow youngsters at Community Service Volunteers (CSV). Among his many pupils were Billy Boyd, actor (The Lord of the Rings), and Cameron McKenna, voice-over artist (BBC and STV announcer). Busby also directed comedian Chic Murray in another version of A Christmas Carol shown in 1992 on the BBC.

In 1971, he made The Leslie Crowther Show, a comedy sketch show, with three older comics, Arthur English, Chic Murray and Albert Modley ("Eee it's grand to be daft!") as the internal "rep" company. In 1972 and 1973, he appeared in a television sitcom called My Good Woman, alongside Richard Wilson, Sylvia Syms and Keith Barron. He also narrated two storytelling LPs for children, Tallulah Supercat and Tallulah and the Cat-Burglars.

Robert William Speck (April 16, 1915 – April 5, 1972) was a Canadian politician who was the first Mayor of the Town of Mississauga, and the town's only elected mayor. Speck died while in office and Reeve Chic Murray was appointed by the town's council to take his place. Speck is buried at Springcreek Cemetery in Clarkson. Robert Speck Parkway, a short road in central Mississauga leading to Square One Shopping Centre, is named in his honour.

Four of the caricatures where acquired as permanent additions to the gallery's collection in April 2007. These were caricatures of the late comedian Chic Murray, lead singer of Wet Wet Wet Marti Pellow, golf champion Sam Torrance and darts champion Jocky Wilson. Fizzers caricatures were shown at the Platform art space in Easterhouse from 11 March to 5 April 2009. Fizzers: Well Kent Scottish Faces at the People's Palace and Winter Gardens, Glasgow, ran from 18 July to 4 October 2009.

For much of the run of the series, Ted Ray and Arthur Askey served as team captains, usually regularly supported by Ray Martine and Les Dawson respectively. Several celebrities have had their names used as euphemisms, including footballer Roger Hunt, actor Gareth Hunt,Anonymous Dirty Cockney Rhyming Slang Michael O'Mara Books Ltd. singer James Blunt, politician Jeremy Hunt, and 1970s motor-racing driver James Hunt, whose name was once used to introduce the British radio show I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue as "the show that is to panel games what James Hunt is to rhyming slang". An old canting form is berk, short for "Berkeley Hunt" or "Berkshire Hunt", and in a Monty Python sketch, an idioglossiac man replaces the initial "c" of words with "b", producing "silly bunt". Scottish comedian Chic Murray claimed to have worked for a firm called "Lunt, Hunt & Cunningham".
